Cayla has been secretly in love with Vadyn, the powerful Kasar warlord, for as long as she can remember. The warrior is every girl's fantasy. But when Cayla's mother and father are murdered, everything changes. And Vadyn is suddenly in danger. Only by bonding with him, physically and mentally, can she save him. But is she ready to be Vadyn's mate─and the ly'teal of Kasara?
Last Love...
Vadyn is overwhelmed with grief at his friends' murder and absolutely furious at the premeditated attack. But more powerful than anything is his need to keep Cayla in his bed until she accepts her place at his side. Still, as the el'kota of Kasara, he can't allow the raid to go unpunished. He wants answers─and vengeance. To get them, he calls for a meeting of the Intergalactic Alliance. But on the way, his ship is ambushed . . . and Vadyn is taken prisoner.
Forever Love.
Cayla's determined to rescue Vadyn─even if it means leading the fighters herself. But will her men follow her? Fully claiming her new role as warrior queen, Cayla comes up with a daring plan that will crush the enemy and bring her mate home. And then she'll show him that she's become a force to be reckoned with in the bed chamber, too.
I tried, really I did! But I just couldn't finish this book... I stopped at 35%. I honestly just couldn't continue to read this book mainly because it's kind of creepy...
The main character, Cayla is absolutely full in love with Vadyn. Even though he is like an uncle to her and that he is mindlinked with her mother. By being mindlinked with Cayla's mother, Elisabeth (who is still married to Cayla's father, Logan), Vadyn can feel everything she does including her intimate moments with her husband and the birth of her children. Which means that Vadyn experience everything about Cayla's birth, just as if he was her mother. When Cayla and Vadyn find Elisabeth and Logan dead, the mindlink is broken and they are devastated. So of course, Cayla and Vadyn decide to mindlink and MATE just next to her dead parents. Uh say what?!?!? -_^ But then for some reason Cayla doesn't want to be with Vadyn know that she actually is. Maybe she finally realized how creepy that is!?! And if you think that Vadyn is a good "book boyfriend", while you're wrong because even his description is creepy!
I usually don't like to write bad reviews or not finishing a book but this one is just that bad. Sorry...
This was a very difficult book to read, that was the reason why I needed weeks to finish it. One of the problems I had with this storytelling was, that the author couldn't decide if it should be a romance, erotica, NA or even YA. I mean, there was one exiciting scene, but after that boring descriptions and more descriptions and then I got lost and did not have the nerve to read it any longer. (I did finish it for the sake if this review)
I wouldn't have been so creeped out by the bond of Vadyn and Cayla's parents if it had been more of a platonic bond. This bond felt like a threesome or at least a relationship with a voyeur.
I totally dig older man x younger woman but this? Someone who was -more or less- in a relationship with her parents is now her mate? Sorry, my very tolerant brain is not hardwired for that; I would've accepted it, if Vadym wasn't a part of the bond with Cayla's parents though!
Sci-Fi is not really my cup of tea, but there wasn't even enough hot smex to make up for a boring and messed up story.
Sorry for the negative review, but I'd like to get my invested time back.
My Take on the Book
Interesting cross genre (sci-fi/romance) book. Hampton writes sci-fi with a classic voice. The voice of the romance , however, did not flow as easily.
A reader needs to leave its hard pre-conceived sci-fi, and romance genre notions aside when picking up this book. This read takes some great pieces of both genre’s and combine them in an interesting and heart tugging read.
This is an interesting and quick read. Something that will appeal to both sci-fi and romance readers alike. The sci-fi story is fun, and the romance is spicy and sweet enough to pull you into Cayla's and Vadyn's story.
This book was a different read for me, a intergalactic journey. Kayla has a secret she has been in love with Vadyn. He is a warlord and she is the daughter of friends who were murdered. He seeks revenge but is captured and she will do everything in her power to save him and show him what she truly feels.
