Wicked Scandal is my first book by Rachel Leigh and I really like her writing style. She has an easy writing style that has a great flow and is addictive to follow.
In this book we follow the story of Catherine and Wilder. Catherine is a highschool teacher and absolutely loves her job. But her job is also an escape. She is married to the current mayor. But Troy is extremely abusive and makes her live a living hell. She needs to cover up in school to hide the bruises and handprints on her body.
Wilder is a senior in highschool and is almost turning 19. He has a social media presence and is also helping out his father who is running for mayor. Wilder and Catherine really have a great bond and Catherine helps him out with writing speeches for his fathers campaign.
But Troy is extremely jealous and when he finds out they spend time together, he does everything in his power to break them up.
Wilder is also talking to Cat on his SnapTok account and he figures out it is Catherine. They slowly but surely start to fall for each other. And love isn't bound to boundaries. It doesn't see them as teacher-student. But as a man and a woman who start to fall in love with each other.
But why isn't Catherine leaving Troy? Why is staying in such a horrible situation? Wilder is determined to find out and help her. And that is what this story is about. It's a beautiful journey about two souls connecting and finding out if there is a future possible between the two of them.
And while I absolutely loved the premise and the story itself. I did have trouble with a few key things.
SPOILER ALERT in the next paragraph. Wilder is fiercely protective of Cat. But there is a scene in the book where she is being abused and she asks him to go. And he just leaves. Reculantly. But he leaves. I just cannot fathom how a man leaves a woman behind in such a situation. I also disliked his refusal at first towards Beth at the end of the book. Maybe that was supposed to show how young he is. And he maybe doesn't understand it. But it irked me a little bit. The story also didn't feel that taboo. There wasn't much emphasis on the student - teacher trope. It is mentioned here and there. But not once to Catherine really protest against the idea of it. The reason as to why she stays with Troy. For me it felt a little bit like a let down. I expected so much more.
The above mentioned reasons are the reason I am doubting a bit if I want to give this story 3.5 or 4 stars. I'll just settle on 3.75 and rounding it up to 4 on Goodreads, Amazon etc.
But overall still a really enjoyable book. And I am glad I read it.
I preface this by saying Student/Teacher isn't a favorite but Rachel Leigh doesn't fall into the status quo of the trope. Wilder is probably the most 'cinnamon roll' of any of her heros but he is in the best way. He is sweet, fun and protective. Some twists keep it moving and this has a major satisfaction factor. Good read.
I haven’t actually watched that mini series A Teacher, I’ve only seen TikTok’s, but this gave off those vibes. Except! Wilder gave off more bad boy vibes. Catherine had the abusive husband thing going.
Very taboo Teacher/student, age gap. Of legal ages tho.
Maybe just wasn’t my cup of tea. I wasn’t very connected to these two.
- Forbidden Love - Reverse Age-Gap - Teacher-Student - Heroine in Danger - Secret Romance - Angsty Romance
(English review below)
Wicked Love is the second book in the Misfits series and I devoured it! This book drove me crazy from the start, forbidden romance and an age gap is a combination I love! The age-gap being reversed is something I read very rarely but the times I do it fascinates me! Wilder is a super creative and determined character and I loved getting to know him more and seeing his romantic, thoughtful and intelligent side! Catherine is so strong, she went through a lot of things and stayed strong and confident, her vulnerable side with Wilder was such a beautiful thing to read, how she could just be herself being with him <3 The chemistry between these two characters is perfect, and the story progresses relatively well, however I had some problems with how things happened and how fast some situations were that I wasn't convinced. The back story wasn't enough for me, I feel like I missed a lot of things but I still got to enjoy these two characters, learn more about the Cromwell family and I'm sure others will enjoy this book a lot! I am already looking forward to the third book in this series!
Thank you Rachel Leigh and Valentin PR for this arc! :) Wicked Love is out June 28thl! (TOMORROW!!!!!)

First off all I will like to say thank you to the author @rachelleighauthor and @valentine_pr_ for believing me again and give me an ARC to review. One thing that you definitely need to check out are the trigger warnings because this book has a few of them and they are heavy topics such as domestic abuse, non consensual sex, violence, etc. Now that I explained everything let's continue with the review. I really like Wilder in the first book and I was intrigued by him. And his book didn't disappoint at all. He is such a golden retriever very different from his twin brother Rome. He is dedicated and very passionate about what he loves and what he wants to do with his life. And my lovely sweet girl Cat. She really has a tough life but thanks to Wilder everything became better. First they start connecting over social media but there chemistry became so much stronger that it pass to real life as well. They start a secret relationship even do she was scared to do it. But it was her only chance to happiness. He really love her and want it to protect her from her evil husband. I hate that guy. If you like stories about forbidden love this is for you. Please give them a try.
I'm sure this book is about Wilder and Ms. jenkins the teacher( the mayor's wife). Can't wait to read it. I'm positive it would be amazing, like heartless monster. Love your books, Rachel leigh🥰
Wicked Scandal has become one of my new favorites from Rachel Leigh. I have been hyped for Catherine and Wilder’s story since we got a peek in Heartless Monster. Wicked Scandal is a reverse age gap, student teacher romance that deals has some dark elements added in. If you have trigger warnings namely domestic violence please tread lightly. All characters are of legal age. Wicked Scandal follows Catherine who is a high school teacher who has some secrets. She is in an abusive relationship with her husband who happens to be the mayor. Catherine starts helping her student Wilder with some writing assignments and they both become enamored with each other. Wilder is a famous social media influencer who’s father is running for mayor against Catherine’s husband Troy. I loved the connection that Catherine and Wilder had throughout the book. I wanted to hug Catherine for everything she had to go through. Wilder just wanted to save Catherine throughout the book and parts broke my heart. Catherine and Wilder’s scenes were so loving and heartfelt. I loved that we got to see more of Rome and Elodie who I love. I can’t wait to read more books in the Misfits series.
I don’t even know how to put it into words how much I loved this book! It deserves all the stars! It was so freakin good! It’s a reverse age-gap, student/teacher.
I’m usually not a huge fan of student/teacher, but this story OMG! The storyline was amazing. I knew only 20% in that it was going to be a 5 star read! I felt so much for Catherine. That sweet girl. She deserves everything! And Wilder wanted to be the one to give her everything. Wilder is like the sweetest ever! This book made me so emotional at times. It broke my heart. I don’t always hate book characters, but Troy is definitely on that list!
The chemistry between Catherine and Wilder was off the charts! The spice was hot. I just loved this book so much! I didn’t want it to end! It’s definitely going to be one of my top reads of 2024!
2.5/5 ⭐️ I had such high expectations for this one and was left disappointed. I was looking for this insane chemistry and desire between the MCs and there wasn’t really any. It still boggles me how they returned to their normal lives and completely forgot that the murderer was still at large until they heard from them. The murderers identity wasn’t even a shock I knew who it was because their character introduction gave it all away.
I did like the aspect that they connected over Snaptok at the beginning and when Wilder found out it was her. I also loved how Rome and Wilder still continued to look out for each other.
Overall, this wasn’t as scandalous as most teacher X student reads are. We didn’t even get the fall out of community once everyone found out that they were together.
Wicked Scandal is the second book in the misfits series and I devoured it! This is about Rome’s twin brother Wilder and his scandalous affair with his teacher. Wilder’s dad is running for mayor against the current mayor who happens to be married to our FMC Catherine. Wilder’s fascination continues to grow the more time he spends with Cat while she agrees to help him. I absolutely loved Cat, she’s gone through so much and still has such an amazing heart. This is definitely a taboo trope, teacher/ student but I ate it up!! The chemistry between these two is delicious. Wilder has the appeal of a “bad boy” but when it comes to Mrs. J he will do any and everything to protect and make her happy. 🫠 I can’t wait to find out what the other brothers have to offer us. 😉
🩵Student/Teacher 🩵Reverse Age-gap which is just 🤌🏼 🩵Angst 🩵Heroine in danger
“Suspenseful, heartbreaking and beautiful. I’m not sure if every Catherine has a Wilder but for their sake I hope they do. Rachel Leigh takes a to dark place that a lot of women have experienced. The hell your put tho and shows us white knights do exist.
Wilder is so swoon worthy!! Catherine is so sweet and goes through so much!
I actually wasn’t sure I was going to love these two together at first but ended up loving them so much!!
Read this in one day couldn’t put it down had to know what was going to happen. I loved the suspense aspect towards the end of the book! This was a great read!
Tropes: Forbidden, student/teacher, reverse age gap, heroine in danger, angsty
This is definitely not a favorite. I really enjoy this author and this is the first book of hers that I could not connect with. This book had so much potential and overall I thought it was just corny.
These are random thoughts that pop out to me without giving away the story.
I felt the plot was not well thought out. It made me think the author forgot she was writing reverse age gap as this 18 year old kid had all the answers, and then realized he's just a kid and makes the problem worse for the FMC. Every.single.time. Alot of stupid decisions were made and it drove me nuts.
I felt the "why" the husband was keeping her was so out of left field, I laughed.
This was my first book with the Teacher/Student trope and Reverse Age Gap and it was SOOO GOOD!!!
I knew from the beginning this was going to be a book I couldn’t put down. I loved Wilders personality so much, he gave out the golden retriever but in a touch her and 💀 kinda way too 😆 The chemistry between him and Catherine had me absorbed in and I couldn’t read fast enough. I loved how Taboo it all was and honestly wishing there was more of the story!
The spice in this book is so dang good, pretty sure I re read the scene from the guest house 3 times ☺️🥵
The Author did such an great job with the side characters in the series and I can’t wait for more books to release 🤍
If you love…

Hot off the heels of the excellent Heartless Monster, Wicked Scandal is most certainly a gorgeous entry in the Misfits series. I was enthralled and captivated; when my heart wasn't crying out over the angst, it was swooning in delight over the romance. I simply could not put this one down-- I loved it. 4.5✨
This book is led by fantastic pair: Catherine and Wilder. Catherine's arc begins in heartbreak, I felt so deeply for her. The author takes great care in how she explores the harrowing experiences Catherine deals with daily in her home. Seeing her start to fight back for herself and for her blossoming love was empowering. Wilder is a terrific hero and complement to Catehrine-- he is the first to truly see her, to break down those walls and reach out with a hand to lead her somewhere better. I appreciated how, given the age gap, how high his emotional intelligence was and how it led to a beautiful bond with Catherine.
There is a reverse age gap, which I always appreciate-- that said, I admit it took me a bit to feel fully at ease with it-- Wilder is 18 to Catherine's 29. Whilst I would have preferred them a bit closer in age, this was only a personal nitpick for me to sort out, nothing at all affecting my enjoyment. Sometimes we have to suspend the disbelief and embrace the journey-- and I am so glad I did. I was ultimately for the taboo! There's taboo is both in the age gap and the fact our heroine is a married woman.
From the onset we know Catherine's marriage is more than simply unhappy-- it's a trap. She is abused, dehumanized, and feeling she has no choice but to stay shackled to her husband. I had zero qualms in immediately rooting for her and Wilder to find a happily ever after in such dire circumstances. I believed in more than just their electrifying chemistry-- I believed in their emotional connection. You want to see this couple succeed in every single way.
I found the development of their relationship wholly tantalizing, the backbone of this amazing story.
The climax had me howling when I realized I guessed right about what really happened upon its development. The narrative does an incredible job in laying out the hints without it being placed in the foreground, so either you’ll catch it or you’ll be gasping in shock and awe...but as you turn around you'll realize the breadcrumbs were always leading to its revelation.
I really appreciate when a book properly foreshadows things like this, without subverting expectations or coming out of left field. It’s subtly, but ever so properly built up.
I care deeply for our leads that I must admit the resolution had me sweating things, from the legal standpoint, haha! That's all I'll say! It was a wild ride!
These first two entries of the Misfits have propelled this ongoing series towards the top of my favorites list. I am so glad to have read this, and I'm so ready for the next one!
Thank you Valentine PR for providing me a complimentary copy, I leave this honest review voluntarily.
Wicked Scandal by Rachel Leigh explores a reverse age gap romance with a touch of taboo, focusing on the relationship between student Wilder and teacher Catherine. Wilder, a strong-willed and rebellious young student, becomes infatuated with Catherine, a woman with a complex past and even more complex present. Their relationship unfolds amidst societal pressures and personal struggles, setting the stage for a story of forbidden love.
Wilder is charming and determined to break free from traditional relationship norms. He’s mature enough to make his feelings believable, yet still young enough to make his character feel authentic.
The taboo aspect of their romance required a more delicate touch. Writing about such themes needs to balance sensitivity and realism, which "Wicked Scandal" unfortunately didn't fully achieve. Catherine's character, in particular, lacked depth because her traumatic experiences overshadowed her personal growth. The damsel in distress aspect was too much on the forefront and I am still not convinced that she’d chosen Wilder if he wasn’t the complete opposite of Troy 🤷🏻♀️
On a positive note, the character of Troy was exceptionally well-written. I genuinely disliked him, which added a necessary layer of tension to the story.
However, the main conflict in the book was quite predictable, and the resolution felt anticlimactic and rushed. The story built up to a climax that didn't deliver the expected impact, leaving a lot of potential untapped.
Overall, "Wicked Scandal" had the makings of a great story but didn't quite hit the mark. While it wasn't a bad read, it lacked the depth and engagement needed to fully draw you in.
Lordt. The writing for Wicked Scandal was great and so was the plot. However, I did find myself underwhelmed during some of the scenes. Technically Rachel is a taboo writer but this book while reading it felt very differently. It almost felt more of a thriller romance.
Wilder is an eighteen year old senior who happens to be graduating high school very soon. He is the complete opposite to his twin Greedy. (Greedy is the better twin for my own messed up reasons) Wilder is very present and tends to go viral on his snaptok social media page, there he happens to find his admirer.
Catherine AKA Cat, is a 29 year old teacher at Wilder’s high school. Her personal life is literally in shambles and everyday Is world war 3 when she arrives home. She’s always watched one of her students a little bit more intensely than the others, she even wonders often what would happen if she pushed the boundary.
This book is H E A V Y on domestic violence. Like HEAVY! So, if this is a trigger for you, I highly encourage you to read through the rest of the TW before indulging.

Okay, let's get real for a sec. 🙈 I've gotta admit, this book wasn't exactly my cup of tea, and boy, did it take some willpower to get through! But here's the thing – it's not because the book is bad. Not even close! 🙅♀️ Rachel Leigh's writing? Absolutely stellar. 🌟 If we're talking objectivity, this baby deserves all 5 stars. It's just that reverse age gaps aren't usually my jam, you know? Even though Rachel handled it like a pro, I just couldn't get those warm fuzzies I usually look for. But can we talk about Wilder for a hot second? 😍 His personality had me grinning like an idiot. He's giving total golden retriever vibes, but with this sneaky "touch her and you're dead" ☠️ undercurrent that I lowkey loved. And Catherine? Sweet as pie, but girl's been through the wringer! 😢 Their chemistry? Off. The. Charts. ⚡️ Now, let's dish about the spice. 🌶️🥵 Holy moly, it was GOOD. That scene in the guest house? Yeah, I may have read that one three times. Don't judge me! 😏 I've gotta give props to Rachel for the side characters too. They've got me itching to get my hands on the next books in the series! 📚💕 So, if you're into:
Teacher/Student dynamics 📚 Reverse Age Gaps 👫 Small Town Vibes 🏡 The whole "touch her and you're dead" thing ☠️ Taboo storylines 🤫 Dark Romance 🖤 Romantic Suspense 🕵️♀️
Then honey, this book is calling your name! It might not have been my personal fave, but I can totally see why others would fall head over heels for it. Happy reading! 📖✨
Wicked Scandal follows the story of Wilder Cromwell and Catherine Jenkins. This story is beautifully written and you’ll be rooting for them from the start.
Wilder is the star athlete, amazing following online and is wise beyond on his years. He knows what he wants to do with his life. He has it all figured out. Once he falls for his married teacher everything changes. He wants to cherish and protect her. And he’ll do everything in power to keep on her safe.
Catherine life on the outside seems to be perfect. The mayors wife, & high school teacher but behind close doors nothing is what it seems. She suffers in the hand of her husband and can’t do anything to stop him. Especially when he is holding something against her.
When Catherine and Wilder begin their relationship they have to keep it quiet. Theirs chemistry is off the charts. Yes they have an age gap but they understand one another like no one else does. It’s great to see all the highs and lows they go through. Everything they have to endure if they want to be together. This story had it all and then some. I truly enjoyed this story from beginning to end.
Ok wow, wow, wow! This was... wow. There was just so much here. So, I read the first book in this series and was a big fan. I'm not huge on high school-based stories but I still enjoyed the first book. So this second book in the series - truthfully, enough time had passed that I kind of forgot about this world for a minute so I loved just completely falling back into it and it felt so familiar. Except here we've got just so-so much more going on.
In this book #2 in the series we've got Wilder Cromwell as the MMC, in book #1 we had his twin brother. Wilder is the calmer of the two and at this point in the storyline they're about to graduate high school. Except Wilder gets wrapped up in Catherine .... his teacher! Yes, here we've got a reverse age gap AND a student/teacher trope. I know, believe me: I know. Somehow this feels like cringe, right? Let me assure you, it is not. Rachel Leigh wrote this so skillfully and delicately that I just have to take my hat off to her. Not only with the age gap of an 18 yo MMC and a 29 yo MFC and he's still here student... I mean, I get it - even if the ages were reversed and the MMC were the teacher and the MFC were the student, it doesn't matter. It's pushing borders. Now, I have to say all of this because I was super hesitant. BUT!!! Rachel handled this like such a pro, like, girl. Wow! But beyond that, there is some major abuse that takes place on and off the page and that's normally already such an extremely hard topic. And then balancing that with the student/teacher and age - let's just say that this book could have crashed and burned so many times, but it didn't because Rachel is obviously a master. How she handled these difficult scenarios and topics is just awe-inspiring. She literally had my heart bleeding for Catherine. My sympathy for her and her scenario, and also for Wilder - and their challenges. It's such a delicate balance and I'm in awe of Rachel and how she handled everything in this story and how she managed to write this incredibly beautiful book.
I tip my hat to you for this book and tackling the topics you did, because Rachel... this one had me all up in my emotions and my heart in my throat. Just... wow.
I want to preface this with stating that the tropes in this book are not my favorite, and I knew that going in. I was hoping I could overcome those and get through the book, but it look some work. I love Rachel’s writing and I’ve loved every book I’ve read of hers up to this point. This book started off with a really good prologue and it hooked me from the very beginning to make me want to know what happened. However, I wasn’t really drawn in by the characters as much as I wanted to be. I had read Wilder’s brother’s story so I got a sense of the characters in this story a bit already. I’m not a huge fan of reverse age gaps and even though he’s 18, her being his high school teacher gave me the ick. If you don’t mind those two and you like the touch her and ☠️ vibes, you would jive with this book. It just wasn’t for me.
This novel is the second one in the Misfits series following Heartless Monster. This novel follows twin brother of the first novel, Wilder Cromwell. He is a senior in high school who is set on to take a huge responsibility in helping his father with campaign speeches to become mayor of their town. He is a bright, sweet and caring person who supported his brother from novel #1 and father in his campaign. All is going well to finish out his senior year, until he falls for the wrong woman. The opposing mayoral candidate’s wife, and his teacher.
Mrs. J, high school teacher, mayors wife, she has secrets of her own. Out in the open she and the mayor are a happy couple taking on the town. Behind closed doors is another story of violence and tragedy. Will Mrs. J ever be rescued from the hell she lives in?
Read the story to find out how these two navigate this tricky, unconventional relationship.

I don’t know what it was, but this book fed me more than I ever anticipated it to. It’s like I knew I needed to read it when I did and I didn’t know how much I needed it! And it had two of my top favorite tropes (age gap and student/teacher) so I already knew it was going to be top tier; not even 2 chapters in and I was hooked!! Wilder and Catherine’s chemistry was off the charts and the spice was everything I was hoping! While Catherine deserved everything she could want and Wilder wanted to be the one to give it to her, it made me emotional and pulled at my heart. I just loved this book and it is one of my top reads of the year so far!
Wicked Scandal is the second book in the Misfits series and can easily be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed how this student/teacher, forbidden romance plays out. Rachel does a phenomenal job of allowing readers to empathize and understand both Wilder and Catherine's decisions and their inner battles.
Rachel does a great job of the pacing in this story and how things come to light and play out. Readers get to see that inner turmoil within Catherine. Readers will absolutely adore Wilder and I love that he stays true to himself.
Wicked Scandal is a reverse age gap, student-teacher and forbidden love romance. Catherine and Wilder’s story is an emotional one. I truly felt for Catherine and all she had to go through. Wilder gives her the support she needs. The chemistry between them is amazing. They just fit. Unfortunately, they face many challenges in their relationship. Rachel wrote these two so well. I really enjoyed this book and am loving this series. Definitely recommend!
I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I am rating this book 4.5 stars. I loved Wilder I guess I just expected for angst from him like Rome, but truly they are complete opposite. Where Rome is moody and mean, Wilder is full of fun and sunshine lol. But I still really loved him. He definitely went out of the box with choice of woman lol. I was not expecting that, well maybe a little. Now I need Callan book, and brogans and the rest of them. I'm excited for what's next!
This was a deliciously forbidden student/teacher romance! Rachel Leigh has done it again she’s written another unputtdownable story that I devoured it’s full of angst hot chemistry forbidden temptations and all the emotions I truly loved this story!
