Freedom had never tasted so good the moment Marquez exited through those barred prison gates. After serving a 3 year bid, Marquez swore to himself that he would never step foot in another prison. Determined to turn his life around, Marquez occupies his days working at a local car shop. Despite the low pay and endless hours, Marquez does not let that deter him. His world is then shaken up the moment he meets Breanna, a cute, around the way girl, whose main focus in life is attaining her degree and escaping the gritty projects of Brownsville, Brooklyn, for good.
Both from troubled pasts, they find themselves drawn to each other in ways they would’ve never fathomed. Breanna becomes the light to Marquez’s life as she opens his heart to something foreign to him. Love. Marquez then begins to realize the possibilities of obtaining a better life outside of the hood. It is until he is faced with an unexpected tragedy that shatters his world for the worst. His dark past now becomes a reality as the grim streets claw at every ounce of his sanity. Now, Marquez must decide whether to continue on the right path he vowed to take or succumb to the dangerous lifestyle he has always known. The streets.

Dang!! This book was awesome. This author's ability to tell a story is in one word PHENOMENAL!!! I felt the soul of each character. It took entirely too long for Bre && Marq to get together but once they did it was explosive!!! Dayum good job!!
Though from the same hood, Bre and Marquez were from two different worlds. Bre was all about the books and Marq was just about surviving day to day. When they find themselves both on the same level, will their environment keep them apart?
Cuffed was a great redemption story. I enjoyed the Urban aspects which made for a good contemporary feel. Marquez and Bre are flawed characters that were quite relatable. Their attraction was undeniable and to see them fight to be together despite all the adversities working against made for great drama. My only issue is that plot progression was a bit too slow so the storyline dragged and then speed up more to the end. I've read everything by Ryan and have throughly enjoyed all her work. I do believe this was her first novel and I can say she has been perfecting her craft since then!
A young black man is released from prison after serving a sentence for murder and goes back to his home town, with hopefully a new outlook in life. Thanks to his Grandparents he begins a real job working 9-5pm, working in his Grandfather's, "Po" body shop. This black man saw and heard terrible things when he was a child, and his own Father abused him. You can tell he loves his family very much and respects his, "Gram's" and the guys in the hood are family to him as well. He meets women and only uses them only for sex, then one day he meets B. and she changes his whole life. He falls in love. Tragedy strikes him and his family, and he goes back to his old life-style which affects everyone around him, including his girlfriend.
I am Caucasian and I read a book that was more for blacks. I learned a lot of slang I didn't know before. There is a lot of cursing in the book but I overlooked that. I couldn't put down my kindle until I finished this book. The book was very good!
APB Perspective Review: I enjoyed this book , when I started this book , I immediately became interested in Marquez, I cared about him , I wanted to see what decisions he would make, I wanted him to be happy and Breanna's story was drew me in just as much. the writing in the book is a bit gritty , but I understand , the author used street language to tell this story , not something I usually like but I could not put this book down This book is unpredictable, and very sexy , this is the second book I've read by this author and the passion in this book is off the chain. I would like to see this author write women's fiction and traditional romance , I feel her talent is raw, her characters are interesting, flawed, she writes people you root for even if they don't make the best decisions. I'm going to continue to follow this author , i really enjoy her work.
I enjoyed this book. It was missing the page turning action for me but, it was nice to read about a young man who wasn't all about money, cars, clothes and hoes. Marquez had a tortured soul and it took a lot for him to love. I'm glad Bre was patient, genuine, and loving and was able to be his calm in the storm. I liked how it ended as well.
Great story, edgy, will make you laugh, cry and piss up off ! People can change, only if they are willing to change for themselves !Like they say,you live by the gun, you'll die by the gun ! Not a fairy tale ending, yet a good ending ! Job well done !
I'm mad at myself for letting this sit on my kindle for so long. It held my attention from the very first page. I loved Bre and Maquez's relationship, they were cute together and I'm happy that they got their happy ending.
It took a little too long for the plot to gel. The author spent a great deal of time giving the background story of the main characters: Marquez and Breanna. Of course, there was hood drama. The experiences of the main characters were a bit cliche, but not over the top. Good story.
Cuffed….Pretty good book!!!! There are times when a person has been through so much that they do not know how to love. Marquez was a young man that experienced so much at a young age. Good read!!!
