William Gordon Stables was a Scottish-born medical doctor in the Royal Navy and a prolific author of adventure fiction, primarily for boys. He also wrote books on health, fitness and medical subjects, and the keeping of cats and dogs.
This a very short book, it seems not too many people knows it. I read it mainly because it was in my dad´s old books so I gave it a try. It had a very straight-foward narrative, obviously for younger readers, I really (personally) like these simple narrated adventure tales. They are the perfect break after reading Camus, The Castle from Kafka and such. I enjoyed it very much. I know this is not the kind of book many people would like to read, but IMO these are the kind of stories that make kids want to imagine, ships, travels to the artic and bearded captains etc. What a great book!
