3813 AD. Reanimated ahead of schedule, Adam Hassler, former Delta Force officer and special agent, leads the first expedition out of David Pilcher's mountain superstructure. His mission is simple. Guide and protect a team of surveyors and scientists, while they study the landscape and collect data for the reconstruction of Wayward Pines. A few hours into the trek, Hassler suspects that the operation has been compromised--by the very people that ordered it.
With daylight fading, Hassler's team faces an unknown threat, on unfamiliar ground--in front of an impatient audience.
First Contact is Part One of The Genesis Series, a planned trilogy of novellas set in the early days of Blake Crouch's Wayward Pines. Part Two will be released during the summer of 2014, followed shortly by Part Three.
Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. His extensive journey spanned the globe, including a two-year tour of duty in Japan and travel to more than twenty countries throughout Asia and the Middle East.
From enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq as a maritime boarding officer in the Arabian Gulf, to directing aircraft bombing runs and naval gunfire strikes as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) assigned to a specialized Marine Corps unit, Steven's "in-house" experience with a wide range of regular and elite military units brings a unique authenticity to his thrillers.
He still wakes up at "zero dark thirty" to write for most of the day. When "off duty," he spends as much time as possible outdoors or travelling with his family--and dog.
Steven is the bestselling author of ten novels and several novellas, including a commissioned trilogy of novellas based on the popular Wayward Pines series. His canon of work includes the popular Black Flagged Series, a gritty, no-holds barred covert operations and espionage saga; The Perseid Collapse series, a post-apocalyptic thriller epic chronicling the events surrounding an inconceivable attack on the United States; and The Fractured State series, a near future, dystopian thriller trilogy set in the drought ravaged southwest

This is the first story (in Kindle Worlds or Blake Crouch's Wayward Pines series) that I've read in but it won't be the last. Intriguing and suspenseful. Very enjoyable story.
Some of us, fans of Blake Crouch's Wayward Pines, have had a few questions in the back of our mind. Like - how did the fence get built? how did the town survive all those years? and you know, the abbies and more . . .
Fear not folks, Steven Konkoly is here to point us in the right direction with "First Contact - The Genesis Series"
Mr. Konkoly's writing and story-telling is crisp, exciting and way above par from a lot of what I've read in the Kindle Worlds - heck, he is at the tops anywhere. The story starts off grabbing your attention and keeps it there until the last sentence. We find our favorite characters playing a support role to former FBI agent Adam Hassler - or are they? Whatever is in stewing in Pilcher's mind lands Hassler on a mission that is "fubar" from the get-go.
Without giving to much away - let's just say I started this book on lunch time today - extended my lunch time and then said screw it - lunch is over when I'm done reading this.
Your Wayward Pines book collection is not complete without this book. Anxiously awaiting the next book.
I choose this rating because I throughly enjoyed the wayward pine series... I did not know there was a continuation.. the story stays in line and in character without missing a hitch.. enjoyed this as well. I think I would recommend this read to anyone young adult and above..
Konkoly takes the Post Apocalyptic world into the far future in First Contact (Wayward Pines; The Genesis series #1) A completely new paradigm in PA fiction. I won't give spoilers as this is one you need to absorb entirely in one gulp. The first book really whets my appetite for more of the series. This is one series you really should read.
Good prequel series start. While it is a different author, it seems they know Pines just as well as Crouch. A quick paced short story to re-introduce us back into the future of the world. Ready to read on...
The story centers eighteen hundred years in the future. Before the futuristic Wayward Pines is even built. Nice Novella, can't wait to read more of the Stephen Konkoly version.
Enjoyed first contact The Genesis series. A well constructed introduction to Wayward pines and the difficulties in setting up in a hostile environment.
Quick read. Read it in a couple hours. This is part of the "Amazon Worlds" in which other authors build on the Wayward Pines series (which is awesome) by Blake Crowchly. This was the same tone and pace as the original author and the story was a "prequel" and a nice supplement to the series.
Unlike most prequel, this novel didn't fail to deliver. Hassler was on of the most interesting undeveloped characters in Wayward Pines and it was great spending time with him - really helps to have read Wayward Pines first ......
I planned ahead and read Blake Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy first and then dove into Steven Konkoly's take on the one-of-a-kind town in Idaho. What a great novella! Mr. Konkoly took the character of Adam Hassler and brought his experiences to life in this first installment of 'The Genesis Series'. Action-packed with illuminating discoveries that all help to outline the "genesis" of this strange small town. An amazing book! I can't wait to get into the next book in Mr. Konkoly's series, 'The Last Betrayal'. In fact, I don't think I will wait! Definitely an author to follow!
Different author than the Wayward Pines trilogy. This is getting 4 stars. Maybe the other 2 novellas in this additional trilogy will change my mind. Obviously the premise is cool to go back to the beginning of Wayward Pines before anything was really established and finally get Hassler's viewpoint. The second season of the show already went back in time and I think I liked where it was going better.
Have you wondered what it was like to see the Abbies for the first time? Or how the last town on Earth was built? If so, grab this up! Non-stop action and a thriller of a story into the beginning of Wayward Pines. Highly recommend.
Wayward pines Genesis series book one Steven Konkoly
Hibernation... 1500 years into the future. The world is a different place. Hassler, ex special forces, delta, is thrust into survival mode. Has he made a pact with the devil? This story unfolds with background, then warps into high speed action! Can't wait to read book two!
I really enjoyed reading this book it was exciting to go back and learn how these people's in this superstructure made first contact with the world and the things living in it.
Great book....I went back and scanned thru Blake Crouch's PINES to remind myself a little of where that book started. Funny how authors can do this. Konkoly gives the prequel to a book written by Crouch.......LOVE IT....
