"Eight: Journey's End-Brains, A Heart, A Ride in A Balloon-Dinner-Something New-The Illusion of Permanence-A Wreath of Bright Stars-Echoes of Darkness-Up.Out"
Dream and Delirium have dinner with their brother, Destruction, and his talking dog, Barnabas. There is much discussion of why Destruction abandoned his realm and duties, and what The Endless are truly responsible for. Delirium recounts their journey in her own way.
Destruction explains why people around them have been dying. He refuses to return to his realm or his family.
"She said we all not only could know everything. We do. We just tell ourselves we don't to make it all bearable."
Oh man. What is Neil Gaiman trying to do to me? It's a family reunion, but not the kind you expected, nor was the result satisfactory, except to create new missed opportunities and consequences that have to be dealt with.
Legitimately the best issue in this entire series so far. Just brilliant and amazing storytelling. They put their souls into this one issue and it was worth it because it made everything in the arc better, and this could be my favorite or one of my fav arcs.
This right here has to be the best, most beautiful, most moving issue of The Sandman. the dialogue, the monologue, the weight of it all, the revelation of who The Progidy is and why he left.
Very happy to come back to the mainstream plots surrounding Dream and his family members. Listened to the audio-experience Audible Act 3 which encompasses Volumes 7-8 (Brief Lives and Worlds' End)[1], the Sandman Special #1, and other short stories from Vertigo: Winter's Edge #1 & #3 and Vertigo Preview #1.
Looking forward to more backstories and "day in the lives" for other family members such as Desire, and Despair as we've seen with Dream and Death.
