Jack Sigler, Callsign: King, has been a lot of things in his life. A soldier, a father, a hero. But now he’s taking up a new title: guardian.

After a life fighting billionaire madmen, terrorists and unnatural threats, he’s stuck thousands of years in the past, using his knowledge of history and modern warfare to right wrongs and stand up for those in need.

When he meets a twelve year old boy—the prince of the Babylonian Empire—who is to be sacrificed to the ancient goddess, Tiamat, by a twisted High Priest, King steps in, sword swinging. But what starts as a simple snatch and grab, quickly turns into a pitched battle against a legion of men and hideous creatures. As Tiamat rises from her ancient resting place, the fate of the world—and King’s future—is at stake.

Trapped millennia in the past and gifted with regenerative abilities, King must live out the centuries until he returns to his own time and his family. The Jack Sigler Continuum series tells the events that occurred in King’s life as a result of the full-length novel, Omega, but no prior reading is required to enjoy the Continuum series. Each story will be a standalone adventure, and a great jumping-on point. For more of King’s adventures, check out the entire Jack Sigler/Chess Team series.

This is the first novella that covers Jack Sigler's adventures in the past and I loved it! I particularly loved the biblical references that were thrown in. The story takes place in 780B.C., in the time of King Nebuchanezzar. Be ready for a great ride as Jack tries to save a prince and comes up against an evil priest and some nasty monsters!
I can't wait for more of his adventures...highly recommended!!

What a page-turner. I honestly could not put it down. Lots of action and extremely well written. Robinson & Holloway are a fascinating combination. I would strongly recommend reading the other Chess Team/ Jack Sigler Thrillers before picking this one up as it does have some major spoilers that happen in those, however, if you don't mind spoilers go ahead and get this. I can guarantee you will not be sorry.

Wow!!!

I've been greatly anticipating the return of King and the start of the Continuum series and I have not been disappointed!

Spoilers ahead, so if you don't want to read the review until you've read the book, you now have ten seconds to stop reading. Everyone else, you can enjoy Jetemy Robinson infommercial =D

10...

Read Robinson's book Omega, as it sets all of this up. It's not necessary, but it certainly helps.

9...

Even though Guardian and all following books are stand alone, it also wouldn't hurt to read:

8...

Prime, Pulse, Instinct and Threshold

7...

Then the CALLSIGN books - King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight and King 2 (they're novellas, but don't let their size minimise their importance to the lead up.

6...

Further CALLSIGN books - Deep Blue and King 3

5...

Ragnorak is next.

4...

Then, next, is Omega

3...

Like I said, not vital to read these, but it helps...

2...

Nothing more to add, other than XOM-B is due in April. Can't wait!

So is Savage!!! Due July!

Okay. You've been adequately warned.

In the first adventure since Alexander/Hercules left King stranded in the ancient past during Omega, King has been living (and dying) in history for 200 years and is self-charged with the rescue and guardianship of Belshazzar, a young acolyte and descendant of Marduk who has been captured by Sereb-Meloch, a corrupt high priest who has the might of the Girtabliblu to command and use.

With the assistance of an important historical figure, who instantly garners King's trust, the race to save ancient Earth from the corrupt Sereb-Meloch and his goddess Tiamat commences - without the aide of 21st century weapons and intelligence that King has grown accustomed to.

Guardian is jam-packed with adventure, the supernatural and the heart stopping moments that are synonymous with novels penned by Jeremy Robinson.

No disappointments between these covers ;)

This is your one and only warning to not read this review if you have not read "Omega" by Jeremy Robinson. I'm deadly serious about this: even reading the author's blurb about the book will spoil a major (and I mean MAJOR) plot point in "Omega".

Are you still reading?

You have been warned...

Okay, here we go...

After being tricked into going back into the past by Alexander/Hercules, Jack Sigler (or King) has spent the past 200 years, wandering the world alone. Thanks to his nature of protecting the innocent and fighting the bad guys, he's been continuing this self-imposed mission for the past 200 years. This time, he takes it upon himself (or is it divinely destined) to save Belshazzar, grandson of the famous Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar, from death at either the hands of the evil priest, Seleb-Meloch, or his own grandfather.

After having spent so much time with the amazing man that is King, it was kind of hard to see him going through so much in this book. Thanks to the regenerating remedies Alexander gave him, he is able to come back from just about anything, even death. But it doesn't stop him from feeling the excruciating pain that accompanies some of these deaths, or the psychological traumas that are also inflicted. Having read "Omega", we KNOW he eventually is reunited with his beloved Sara and Fiona, but it's heartbreaking to know how far left he has to go. I feel that "Guardian" has set the precedent for many more amazing Jack Sigler adventures to come... and I, for one, CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!!!

Guardian, the new King book by Jeremy Robinson and J. Kent Holloway is a tale of high adventure! If you know the Chess Team, King in particular, this is a good chapter in the saga. DO NOT read this unless you have read Omega by Robinson and Kane Gilmour first! I'm serious! In fact, check out all the other Chess Team books first, Prime, Pulse, Instinct, Threshold, the 8 CallSign novellas, Ragnarok, and then Omega. This is an awesome series and you'll love it, especially from the beginning!

This book was impossible to resist as I studied the Babylonian Empire as a theologian and just had to read Robinson's take on Tiamat. Fantastic monsters, a rip-roaring pace and some gruesome ways for King to (almost) die. A quick, enjoyable read.

Jack Sigler is on his own and lost in time. For those fans of the Chess team novels, this is just about King in the first of a series of novellas that chronicle his long wait to get back to his own time. If you don't know what I am referring to than this is not the novel to start with. Go read the first in the series The Pulse. For those familiar with this series, a great novella that begins to fill in a large chunk of time.

The king has left the century.

King, Jack Sigler, is in a new environment. He has traveled to the very distant past. The story is set in the Middle East environs around Babylonia. This is the first in a new series from Jeremy Robinson having as its main character one of our favorites from the Chess Team series. It is co-written by J. Kent Holloway.

The action starts with a high priest from Babylonia moving through the desert to a mountain top to release two creatures. He has kidnapped the grandson of Nebuchadnezzar and intends to offer the boy as a sacrifice to the creatures. King, using an alias, has infiltrated the mercenary army that the high priest has gather. He is going to rescue the boy. King finds out there is more going on than expected. With the boy’s help and an unexpected help of a very famous historical figure, King fights to save the human race.

The story pulls one in with each turn of the page. Ancient myths are brought to life. And through it all, King is still King. The hero of mankind. This is a short story I recommended for those who love Jeremy Robinson’s books. I would also recommend it for any who enjoy action/adventure, myths, and ancient cultures. If you haven’t read any of Jeremy Robinson’s book, this is a great one to start with. Another edition to this series is planned for later this year, so read this one now to be prepared.

Historical science fiction. Best way to describe this novella.
I have read every single Chess Team novella in the series, and I think by far this is my favorite one. Jeremy Robinson and Kent Holloway manage to blend history and science fiction, as well as a tad bit of religion as smooth as a refreshing....milkshake (I'm bad at metaphors).
Now, for readers new to Jeremy Robinson, a quick tip so you don't see my review, nod smartly, and then click "Buy;" this novella takes place after the Chess Team novel Omega, so I would highly suggest heading over and purchasing that before reading this one. You don't have to, but it definitely sets it up better. Although if you're new to Jeremy Robinson, you will probably need to also purchase the rest of the Chess Team novels (Pulse, Instinct, Threshold, the various character-based novellas, Ragnarok, and Prime) before purchasing Omega before purchasing Guardian. Sounds like a lot, but so does going to Six Flags; it's a trip getting there, but oh my is it a blast!
So buckle up, settle in, and get ready for a ride 2,000 years in the past!

A thrilling adventure that can be easily devoured in one evening! The story follows Jack who finds himself thrust back in time guarding a young prince who has been marked for death. Robinson and Holloway make for an interesting literary pairing! Bringing together fictional characters along with an interesting mixture of biblical characters. This short novel tosses in the excitement of the scorpion army in the form of the "Borg". Oh.. did I mention that Jack is also incapable of dying and staying that way? Thrust into time.. separated from his loved ones.. by eons. If you're looking for a fast paced thrill of a story.. THIS IS IT! Enjoy, I know.. I certainly did! BRAVO!

What do you get when you combine two stellar writers?????

You get Guardian.

This is part of the Chess Team Saga by Jeremy Robinson, how ever it can pass as a stand alone story, but I recommend getting familiar with this entire collection. Anyway King gets trapped in time, and this is one of the many events he experiences during this strange time in his life. It's very well written, and I like how they where able to mix biblical and historical events with a major dose of ass kikcking and action galore!!!!

It's a short book but definitely one of the best so far. I highly recommend not only this book but the entire collection. Enjoy!!

This is a great launch for a new series. The story ultimately goes in a direction that I didn't anticipate, and I loved that. Brilliant stuff! It's hard to say more without spoilers. I will say this: I have some fear that King's regenerative powers will become cartoonish like everything immortal in Highlander 2. But so far, I'm happy to say that's not happening. Wall to wall action, and no Wiley coyote hijinks. :-)

Can't wait for the next installment!

This wonderful book that is full of myth, legends, gods and heroes what is not to love.

Jack Sigler (King) continues his battle for the down trodden against tyrants.

The story is so exciting I didn't want to put it down. I don't to ruin the read for you so I will leave at that.

I am looking forward to Jack's next adventure on his way to finding his daughter and the woman he loves.

I love the Chess Team/Jack Sigler books and was so excited when I heard this was coming out after Omega. It was worth the wait! Was surprised at the direction Jeremy took it but loved it just the same. I should know by now you can't predict what Jeremy is going to write or what direction he might take his stories, one of the reasons his books are so much fun. I highly recommend this book.

What a great peek into King's experiences during his time in the past. Seeing mythical stories unraveling during their own time period made this one of the more interesting Chess Team stories yet! A great read.

This book was an excellent read! It was fast-paced with a great storyline and characters. I loved the historical aspect of the story and Jack Sigler's place in that history. The combination of Jeremy Robinson and Kent Holloway is excellent and I look forward to more stories by this duo.

Worthy Addition to the Jack Sigler Universe!!

This story is no different than any of Jeremy Robinson's other Chess Team adventures. It immediately grabs and rivets your attention to one of Jack Sigler's exploits in the ancient world. It has all the elements you would expect and holds your interest all the way to the satisfying conclusion. But you are also left with the reassurance that this is not the last of Jack's adventures. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Tiiiiime is on his side, yes it isss.

I think it was a great idea to send Jack back in time. Giving a character like this the chance to meet myths and monsters from over 2800years ago. I love the fact that he isn't invincible.
I wil je enjoying king in his past, present and future :)
Altough i keep hoping for a meetup with a gorgon
Keep up the good work.

Better than you'd expect from a Novella. As usual with Jeremy Robinson, if you can suspend disbelief, you are well rewarded. Some events with King are hard to swallow, but overall a well-written, action, and fast paced novella. Better than many of Robinson's full length novels!

So we are following Jack as he during the events of Omega. Short and fun. It was a good enough story. The aliens were a nice touch. But I do miss the team dynamics from the main story.

Did I really just give 3 stars to a Jeremy Robinson story? In a way, I'm shocked at it myself.

After all, Robinson has quickly rocketed up to one of my favorite all-time authors as he continues to churn out fun, exciting, and original stories at a breakneck pace (seriously, the guy has so many upcoming books on the docket for 2016, it's freaking crazy). Simply put, Robinson pretty much always delivers and aside from a few novels that were just ok (here's looking at you Island 731 and Uprising/XOM-B) I've never been disappointed.

So why the rather pedestrian rating this time around? Why did I give such an average star count to an author who is way beyond that "average" description?

I don't really have an exact answer for you except to say that Guardian, somehow just didn't do it for me this time around and that's odd since this book is Robinson through and through. The action is top-notch, the blended science and mythology are, as usual, explored and brought to a conclusion that somehow makes sense. It's all there, just like it is in all the other books that invoke King and the actions of the Chess team.

I think the problem, when it all comes down to it is twofold. One of which is my fault, the other of which is Robinson's.

Let's start with mine. I haven't read the previously written Omega, which, based on the multiple reviews I've read on that novel, sets up the events and weird storyline of Guardian. Going into this novella without knowing the sequence of events didn't necessarily ruin the overall plot and scheme, but knowing the full skinny on why King was thrown back thousands of years in the past would surely have made it easier to follow.

And now Robinson's. I'm willing to give some benefit of the doubt here since the whole Continuum Series is something new and whenever an author embarks on a new path or idea, the first book is very rarely going to be perfect; There's gonna be a few issues here and there and some kinks to iron out along the way, but the weird alien subplot just didn't seem to gel with the ancient history motif. And yes, I know these are supposed to be novellas, a kind of interlude between the full-length chess team novels, but Guardian was far too short for what was trying to be accomplished. There could have been more backstory and historical fiction weaved into the plot, which not only would have made the book a little bit longer, it would have made it stronger as well.

I'm not complaining though. Guardian was far from a bad story. It's a fun read, and a nice break from the reality of the life. In that sense, it's definitely worth a read, especially if you're a fan of Robinson's work. Just don't expect this one to blow you away, since Robinson has set the bar super high for himself.

ANOTHER AWESOME NOVELLA FEATURING KING AND HERCULES (WHOM LITERALLY TAKES KING BACK TO THE YEAR 780 B.C. AND LEAVES HIM IN AN UNKNOWN LAND, DEPENDENT UPON HIS WITS, STRENGTHS, COMBAT TALENT AND KINDNESS TO SURVIVE). I BELIEVE HERCULES HAS COUNTLESS SECRETS AND HIDDEN AGENDAS WHICH HE PURPOSELY KEEPS FROM KING - (JACK SIGLER) AND THE CHESS TEAM) . . . BUT TO WHAT END ? ? ?

MAYBE WE WILL LEARN SOME OF THE MYSTERIES AND SECRETS HERCULES HIDES :)

GOING BACK IN TIME TO SAVE A PRINCE, FACE EVIL ENEMIES, ADD CREEPY, DANGEROUS, EXCELLENTLY CRAFTED CREATURES, MONSTERS, DEMONS, BIBLICAL REFERENCES . . . WHATEVER YOU WISH TO CALL THEM MAKES "GUARDIAN" A TRUE DELIGHT TO CHERISH.

I BELIEVE YOUR BEST BET IS TO START AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CALLSIGN SERIES AND GO FROM THERE. TAKE A LOOK AT MR. ROBINSON'S AND/OR HOLLOWAY'S ON THEIR AMAZON PAGES, AND THE ORDER OF THE BOOKS SHOULD BE THERE.

ACTION, KICK - A** CHARACTERS THAT I HAVE WATCHED DEVELOP FROM NEWBIES TO THE WELL-ROUNDED WARRIORS AND CARING PEOPLE FROM THE BEGINNING BOOKS. PERSONAL DESIRES, WANTS, HONOR, DUTY, KILLER INSTINCTS AND OH SO DELIGHTFUL FIGHTING ABILITIES ALWAYS KEEP ME WITH MY NOSE INSIDE THESE SOUL-PLEASING READS !

SO ENJOY THESE MYTHOLOGICAL, SHOCKING, FRIGHTENING, DELIGHTING AND OH MY . . . HORRIFIC SCENES AND HAPPENINGS . . . NOT TO MENTION THE GROWTH OF THE CHARACTERS ! ! !

IN ADDITION, "OMEGA", COMPOSED BY ROBINSON AND GILMOUR IS A "MUST" READ BEFORE READING GUARDIAN . . . IN THIS ORDER, YOU WILL FIND THE BOOKS TO BE IN COMBINATION, AND EASIER TO UNDERSTAND THE CONNECTIONS.

AMAZING STORY HOLLOWAY AND ROBINSON. :) :) :)

5 UNIVERSAL STARS FOR "GUARDIAN" - KEEP UP THE UNIQUE WRITING. :) :) :)

This novella expands upon a story line created within the ongoing series of novels and novellas which make up the Jack Sigler/Chess Team adventures fronted by main author/creator Jeremy Robinson and co-authored by a tremendously talented group of additional authors. Reading the previous books in the series is not necessary to fully enjoy Guardian but it does help expand upon and explain the story at hand. If you have not read the previous books just know that, in a nutshell, its a story that mixes Military Spec Ops, fantastic science, historical mythology, biblical history and science fiction elements including time travel and genetic manipulation and immortality. It's all a great big recipe for fun, action and thoroughly entertaining reading.

Guardian takes place towards the end of the ongoing series and without spoiling too much it focuses on Jack Sigler, the primary series protagonist, as he journeys through time righting wrongs, protecting the weak and the innocent and uncovering some supernatural and, dare I say possibly even extraterrestrial, situations. If you are reading Guardian as your first venture into Jack Sigler and the Chess team you will most definitely become hooked and want to go back and learn more about Jack, his comrades of the Chess team and exactly how he ends up in the situation that is the basis for Guardian. Its an enjoyable and fulfilling journey from the mind of a fabulous author and his friends.

I was so excited to read this book. When I finished Omega, my first thought was, "I want to read about Jack and Alexander's adventures more". When I found there was such a book I was anxious to read it, only to be utterly let down.

For starters, Alexander isn't mentioned in the book, even though in Omega it clearly states that he and Jack work together through history. And then in this book Jack has suddenly turned into an idiot. He was often described as "having a hard time wrapping his brain around (some idea)" or he often "struggled to grasp (some idea)". This was not the King we know in the other books, who is normally intelligent, and strategic.

Adding to the inconsistencies were editorial errors, for example throughout the book Yahweh is referred to as Yahweh Yireh, except for Once on page 41 when the name Yahweh Rohi is used instead.

The only redeeming quality is that the book is Extremely short, and I only lost a few hours of my life reading it.

First, let me say this: READ OMEGA by Jeremy and Kane Gilmour FIRST. This book, by necessity, has several major spoilers to that book.

Now, if you don't mind spoilers and simply want a GREAT introduction to one of the best single characters in modern fiction, pick up GUARDIAN even if you haven't read any other CHESS TEAM book.

In GUARDIAN, we see King being just that - a GUARDIAN - to Nebuchadnezzar's grandson (yes, that Nebuchadnezzar - as in, Daniel and the Lion's Den. Writing on the wall, etc etc etc). Now, if you're wondering how a modern super-Delta soldier is somehow in the time of an old Nebuchadnezzar... READ OMEGA!

Great twist on the monster tale, having a modern soldier go back in time to battle ancient monsters... and make some interesting discoveries along the way. Great introduction to who King is - leader, soldier, guardian, tactician, etc etc etc.

Looking forward to the next in the Continuum Series! :D
