Six years ago, Amber fled her hometown and family heart broken and humiliated. Now, after walking in on her fiancé holding another woman’s legs in the air and screaming her name, Amber is headed back home to Oakville, ready for a fresh start in the town she’s always loved. Determined to get back to her life, Amber gets a waitressing job at KC’s Bar & Grille. After a few weeks of working there, she finally sets in to a happy routine with help from her new friend, Holly. That is, until she meets KC, the owner, her boss, and the man who just happens to be the reason she left so many years ago. The man she never got over.
Enter Kyle. He’s sexy, charming, the lead singer of a small town band, and owner of KC’s Bar & Grille. When Amber left all those years ago, he became a shell of the man he was. Broken, confused, and desperate, Kyle began his new life where nothing mattered aside from music and women, sometimes more than one at a time. Finally realizing that he hated the person he was becoming, he moves back to Oakville with his band to focus on the bar. Still playing a few small gigs here and there, Kyle and his band return home after a month only to walk straight into Amber, the girl who broke his heart and left without a word.
With a short, heated conversation revealing that it was all just a misunderstanding, Kyle and Amber are determined to start over again and let the past stay in the past. This is the second chance neither of them dreamed they would get and they aren’t going to waste it. Unfortunately, living in this small town isn’t as safe as it would seem. With people determined to tear them apart and old flings resurfacing, will Amber and Kyle be able to hold onto their second chance? Or will it all slip through their fingers?
After growing up in Saranac Lake, a small town in upstate NY, Kathy-Jo Reinhart returned to her birth place and where she spent her summers with her grandparents, St. Petersburg, Florida, after graduating High School. The sub zero climate and piles of snow definitely weren’t a loss, in her opinion, and this is where she still resides with her Husband of fifteen years and their eleven year old son, who they lovingly refer to as their miracle baby. A name righteously earned after a very difficult and scary pregnancy with 7 1/2 months on complete bed rest. By day, she works as an Office Manager for a construction company started by her grandfather and uncle. Like most people, she has a love hate relationship with her job, but cherishes all the years she was able to work side by side with her grandfather before he passed away. Writing has always been something that she has loved. In school, creative writing was her favorite class. Writing a book was something she had always wanted to do, but was too afraid she didn't have what it took to make it happen. After going from working sixty hours a week to twenty, she found herself with a lot of extra time on her hands and decided it was time to take the leap. Crossing her fingers and closing her eyes, she jumped into creating the Oakville series and hasn’t looked back. The first five star review she received after First Love, the first book in the Oakville series, was published, left her speechless, overwhelmed with emotion, and so blown away that someone really liked what she had written. Her initial fears seemed to calm and reassured her that others love her writing just as much as she loves doing it. How it will all turn out, still remains a mystery, but she’s having a blast seeing where these characters will take her. When she isn’t spending time with her characters, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and doing ancestry research.
DNF 63% but I did skim towards the end and I know that this one ended on a massive cliffy.
I love a good old second chance romance, which is why I immediately agreed to accept the author's request for a review. The blurb sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately, the execution just fell flat for me. I won't go into the details of why this one didn't work for me except to say that the editing issues, the uninspired prose, the cheesy inner monologues, the lack of depth, and robotic dialogue made me ragey. That's all I can say for myself.
I thank the author for giving me a chance to read her book but at the end of the day, it just wasn't for me.
A copy was given to me by Kathy-Jo Reinhart in exchange for an honest review.
First Love is told in Dual POV’s and I really love that. I love a book that we can get into both the characters mind and get a better idea of what is going on. Kyle and Amber were in love and have been together for a long time. They planned to go off to college and live together, but one night changed everything. Amber walks in on something that devastates her. She was left broken hearted and walked away never looking back. Kyle could not understand what happened to Amber. Why she would just leave him like that without as so much as a word. He doesn’t understand and believes it’s because she never loved him the way he loved her.
After 6 long years Amber returns home. She thinks Kyle is out living in LA so she can move on. Kyle did go out to LA but being caught up in the rock star life that lead him down a path where he indulged in too many woman, drugs and alcohol he realized that was not the kind of life he wanted. The woman could never come close to his Princess so he goes back home and buys KC’s Bar and Grille.
During the 6 years when Amber left home she began to live a new life. She met Daniel and slowly they formed a relationship and eventually were engaged to be married. For a 2nd time in her life she was shattered again. So, after moving back home, Amber ends up at KC’s Bar and Grille where she meets Holly and finds out they are in need of a waitress. Needing a job Amber decides to take the job. All is going well until the owner shows up and she is left shocked to see who is standing in front of her.
Kyle cannot believe his new waitress is his Princess, the woman who broke his hear. His first reaction when he sees her is anger but it doesn’t take him long to realize he is still in love with her. He will do anything to get her back, he just hopes his past does not stand in his way.
“Do you still love her?”
“Yes, I do. I wasn’t really sure before, but I was the second I saw her again. All I have to do is figure out how to get her to fall in with me again.”
Amber and Kyle are both mature and wiser and have not gotten over each other in all these years. They both talk to each other about what happened all those years ago and what they hope to accomplish from it. Kylie does not hold back any punches and is very honest about what he wants from her, but he’s afraid his past will come back and ruin things.
“You are the only woman I have ever loved, will ever love.”
“I want nothing more than to be with you again, but I don’t think jumping in head first is the way to do it. We have missed out on six years of each other’s lives. We need to get to know each other again.”
“I can agree to that for a little while, Princess, we are going to have to get to know each other again quickly, though. It is killing me to be around you and not have all of you.”
Amber ends up accepting Kyle’s past because they were not together, she knows she can’t hold that against him. I really liked watching Amber’s growth throughout the story. Where at the beginning I felt she handled the situation a bit immaturely I could feel how during the 6 years being apart how her character has grown. This time around she’s willing to fight for Kyle. I loved the sexual tension between them. I love that they both did not want to rush into things and how much they wanted and needed each other.
“You enjoying the show, Princess?”
“Eh…kind of.”
“Don’t lie to me Princess. I know when you’re turned on. I can see it in your eyes. I can hear your breathing harder over the music, and right now I can feel how wet you are for me. Have you changed your mind yet?”
“Almost.”
“Look at me, Amber. I want to watch your beautiful face when you come.”
Kyle, is amazing he is dominant, caring, loving and sexy is a hell. When these two finally commit to each other, things start to heat up and panties will get wet.
“I have waited a very long time for this, Princess, we are going to take our time. I am going to touch and kiss every beautiful inch of your body, and you, my dear, are going to sit back and enjoy every pleasurable second. Since you have been back, I don’t think there has been a second I am with you that I am not hard and wanting you. Just thinking about you turns me on.”
“Kyle please, Oh My god.”
“Keep your eyes open, Amber. Watch me love you. You feel so good, Amber. See how perfect we are together? Let go with me, Princess.”
“Last night and this morning when you made love to me was amazing, but I want to know what it’s like when you f**k me, NOW.”
You know that saying too good to be true? Yep things were going way too good. A big twist is thrown in where the story starts to take a turn. Danger, suspense and a threat for an unknown come in to play. Just when I thought I had everything figured out another twist was thrown into the mix. I was left wanting more and now I’m anxiously waiting for the next book. This is one you don’t want to miss out on because you will fall in love with Amber (Princess), Kyle, Holly and Paul.

Six years ago, Amber fled her hometown, family and love of her life, Kyle, humiliated and with a broken heart. Once again, her life is turned upside down when she walks in on her fiance and another women. She returns home to Oakville for a fresh start and to get her life back.
Taking a waitressing job at KC’s Bar & Grille, Amber becomes friends with Holly, who also helps get her back into a happy routine for several weeks until she finally meets the owner KC. Her new boss is Kyle, the man who broke her heart six years ago and never got over. Kyle was also left broken and confused when Amber left six years ago. He became a shell of man and left town as well turning to music and women as nothing seemed to matter. He became the lead singer of a small town band and eventually returns home to Oakville with his band, buying the bar.
Returning home with the band after their most recent tour he learns his newest employee is none other than Amber, the girl who broke his heart six years ago.
Kyle and Amber are soul mates and are destined to be together but there are others that don’t want them to be together causing misunderstanding, lack of communication to name a couple obstacles. Right from the prologue this book has you on an emotional journey. You will need tissues while reading this book and may be left a little emotionally drained.
This book has it all, great love, laughter, suspense, twists and turns. Warning you may want to tie your kindle to your hands as you may want to toss it several times. The ending is not what you would expect. Even the supporting characters add a lot to the book.
I highly recommend this book and will be reading the book two as soon as this review is finished as I have to know what will become of Kyle and Amber.
Second chance romance with the whole gamut of dramatic elements - it had almost everything, misunderstandings, alcohol, drugs, manwhoring, serial killers, ex-drama, amnesia, long-lost dads...plus turns out its a cliffie:(( Not planning to read the sequel. 3.5 stars.

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
Wow, that wasn't the ending I expected ... I had forgotten it is the first of a series!
This book starts rather slowly, with a lot of description, not dialogue, but it heats up nicely and the pace quickens. There are a number of unanswered questions that have not yet been fully revealed, so I hope the second book is coming soon.
The good news is that some of the secondary characters deserve their story to be told too, so there is plenty of scope for this series.
I enjoyed the story and fell in love with Amber and Kyle. Actually I fell in love with all the characters. I loved that there was a group of guys, who happen to be band mates, that were so close they were like family. The were tough rockers but they also showed a bit of a soft side. Amber was a tough little lady too. Although at the beginning she was a bit of a brat but she was a young teen who acted like a lot of us might if we were in the same situation. Although she caused a lot of her own pain she turned out to be a great character that I really loved and hoped she would get her happily-ever-after. Now, I know some people get really touchy with cliff hangers and they don't like them. I don't mind them to much as long as I don't have to wait forever for the next book. So I will say that this DOES HAVE A CLIFFHANGER!!!!! You have been warned. With that being said it is a great story and the ending left off in a great place and I can't wait to read the next book. Don't leave me hanging to long Kathy-Jo Reinhart! Please I am not above begging you constantly every day on facebook and email. lol
There was only one thing I did not like about the book and that was that there were songs in it and the lyrics to those songs were in the book and took up a few pages. I love for songs to be mentioned in books and I can even handle having a chorus or maybe one verse if it is short but I hate having the whole song typed out for me. I don't normaly read it all. I admit I will skip over the songs especially if it is a popular song that I know. This may just be me but it just bugs me. Sorry to those that like to read all the lyrics.
Like I said it is a great story and I enjoyed it and it even had a bit of a surprise in it that gave a little twist. Can't wait for book 2.
First Love is a great read!! It's told in the dual POVs of Amber and Kyle. I love dual POVs. WE get to getting both Kyle and Amber's heads and see what they are thinking and feeling.
Kyle and Amber are meet fro each other. But one misunderstanding sends Amber fleeing. Six years later she returns home. Kyle has never gotten over her and has use alcohol and women to try to get over her but the didn't work.
Amber gets a job working at KC's Bar and Grille. At the time she doesn't know Kyle owns it. When she finally meets the owner and realizes it's Kyle sparks fly again. They both finally talk about what happened and why she left. Kyle doesn't hid what he has done while they were apart and Amber accepts him.
Just when you think everything is going to be okay, there is a twist. Before Amber came back, Kyle slept with Darcie, who was married to Beau. Beau thinks Kyle stole amber from him in high school. Beau is a very crazy man and provides some great twists in the story.
First love is the first book in the Oakville Series, #1. So yes there is a cliffhanger. Oh and what a cliffhanger it is. I can't wait to read more. After the ending I am little worried to read the next but I'm hoping for a HEA in the next book, Remember Me (Oakville Series, #2).
*Copy of book provided by author in return for an honest review*
First Love is a story that keeps you entertained at the turn of each page. It’s well written and sets a great pace as well as depicting the emotion of the story very well.
It’s narrated via a dual point of view between Amber and Kyle which helps the reader to get to know each character intimately and shows their development as you move through the book. Their relationship is quite a steamy one and their love scenes are well written.
My only dislike is I felt that, “I love you” was said too many times, and it took the shine off the emotion behind saying those words.
This book ends in with a cliffhanger. However, it is not one that leaves you feeling shortchanged. It’s an ending that you know will most likely take another book to sort through and move past which made this acceptable for me.
A lovely read with much romance, a little drama and a psychopath sure make it an interesting read.
Kyle and Amber have their life all planned out together until one horrible misunderstanding shatters both of their worlds. Amber is heartbroken and takes off without a word to Kyle and he is left not knowing what he ever did wrong.
6 long years later Amber has finally come back home. When she decides to get a job at KC's Bar and Grille she doesn't realize who the owner and her boss will be. What will happen when Kyle and Amber come face to face? Both Kyle and Amber have never gotten over each other, will they be able to rekindle their relationship?
There are so many twists and turns in this book I just could not get enough!!! Once I started reading it, I did not want to put it down. I loved Kyle and Amber together!!
That ending........O....M....G.....NOOOOOOOO I need book 2 now!!! I need to know that all will be ok!! I don't know why I torture myself this way sometimes but it is so addicting, lol.
With the exception of a few, the secondary characters in this book were awesome!! I am hoping that after Kyle and Amber's story wraps up that Kathy-Jo will write more on them.
First Love, book 1 of the Oakville Series by Kathy-Jo Reinhart, is about Kyle and Amber, two people who have been in love with each other since they were kids.
Just when they are about to embark on their journey to college, a misunderstanding sends Amber running away without asking questions. She is hurt beyond belief and leaves without any way for Kyle to find her.
Six years go by before Amber finds herself heading back to the town she grew up in. Little does she know, but the bar she gets a job at belongs to Kyle. When they finally see each other sparks start and they both realize that they still love each other.
After hashing out what really happened six years ago, they start their relationship right back up. They were meant to be together.
Unfortunately past mistakes are coming out of the woodwork trying to make their life hell. And one demon tries to make it forever.
This story was amazing. It flowed flawlessly between chapters and nothing was drawn out too much. It was romantic, gritty, suspenseful and heartbreaking.
Good Lord this was one of the best books i have read this year! From the beginning Kathy-Jo Reinhart pulls you in and your instantly hooked! In the book you meet two characters Kyle and Amber who at the beginning is what we like to call high school sweethearts, their love for each other is amazing and something we secretly all wish we had! After a misunderstanding, they go their separate ways living lives with only half a heart because their other half is not with them. Fate brings them back together but at what cost? In this book you will be on an emotional ride, you will see the obstacles they will over come and some that they will eventually and hopefully overcome. At the end of the day all you need is love and to be loved both of which kyle and amber give each other! I highly recommend this book to everyone, you WILL NOT be disappointed !
Amber: the protagonist that believes she was wronged, moved back to her hometown and got a job at a bar & grill, which she didn't know was owned by her ex-boyfriend. Kyle, the hero that just cant get a break in life, every time he turns around the love of his life is slipping through his grasp. Beau the stir crazy antagonist, who is in love with Amber, is delusional and dangerous. I'm not a romance reader, but I was hooked from page 1. I simply loved this book, even though I read the beta version which needed some minor editing. The book was fun, adventurous, and HOT (move over 50 Shades, you are being replaced!). The ending is a twist you never see coming, and makes you want to dive right into book 2.
**Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review**
Wow!! This book is awesome! One of my favorite books read!! Amazing! I love the story and the characters. From the start up to the last, this book held my interest all throughout!
The characters, Amber and Kyle are easy to love and like. I easily get attached to these two. I love the chemistry of the characters and the romance build-up are easily felt. The other characters are also good. Love them..
The story, loved it. I'm in love with the story! The flow is also good. The way the story ended, I was like "What the".. OMG!! I can't believe that happened!! I can't wait on what will happen next to Amber and Kyle!
First love 5 stars Amber and Kyle were made for each other and in love since they were kids. An unfortunate misunderstanding has them hating eachother, hurting, and separated for 6 years. Once reunited they stronger than ever and more in love than before. These two together make some streamy moments and a love like no other. Sadly jealousy and some crazy exs keep stepping in the way.Unfortunately it turns dangerous and Amber is in harms way and taking every step possible to avoid it the inevitable happens and their happiness is hanging on by a thread. There are alot of twists and the cliffhanger is a big one!!! When does book 2 come out?!?
I won't go into a synopsis of the story? But just say what I liked and didn't about this book.
I really liked the dual view point in this book. I love when you get to see both point of view in a book. At first, I didn't like Amber's character at all. She finds another girl in Kyle's bed and doesn't even confront him. She just hides and runs away. However, I likes that the author showed the character'a growth when a similar situation arises later in life.
Overall, this is a story about first loves and how true love stands the test of time. What's meant to be always seems to find it's way.
I was given this book for an honest review. This was a very enjoyable book from beginning to end. This book is a second chance romance. Amber and Kyle were high school sweethearts when a misunderstanding tears them apart. Both try very hard to move on with their lives but it just never really happens. Then they end up back in thier hometown and decide to give it a go. This was a very good book. The nice thing about this book is that there is more to it than just the romance. There is enough angst to keep a person happy.... HAPPY READING
This book had me from the very beginning. Kyle and Amber were what you can truly say that love will conquer all. They both went through some stuff things were missed understood between the two but it all worked out. As I was reading and really getting into the book it had to end and all I could say was that I did not see that coming and now I have to wait very impatiently until the next book comes out.
This is a really lovely read about second chances.
Amber has run away from her hometown. Hurt by her ex husband she needs to try & move on with her life. However she didn't expect to see Kyle- the reason she left the small town in the first place. Kyle certainly didn't expect to see her.
Really great read. Lovely and easy going I loved reading about these characters and the small town. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
This was one of the most awesome books i have read. it kept me on the edge of my seat all through it. I was so not expecting the ending and cant wait for the second book to come out.
This is the first book by Kathy-Jo Reinhart and she is off to a great start. She has you loving the characters from the beginning of the book and has you hooked until the very end.
A True Love Story..... Amber&Kyle are destined to be together, they are the only people the other has ever loved. One misunderstanding and 6 years later, is the love they once shared enough to forget the past 6 years? I started reading this the moment I bought it off of amazon, and I couldn't put it down! Kathy-Jo did an absolute amazing job with the story of Amber&Kyle. There love for one another seems so pure and legit, and like NOTHING can ever come between them.. .....except for maybe crazy ass Beau....a creepy bastard from their high school days with his own messed up agenda. This story drew me in and kept me hostage till I read the words, "The End." Even after I read those words, I am starving for book 2! I can't believe how the story ended, I am in complete shock! I have NEVER read a book with a cliffhanger like this before. I completely ugly cried during the whole last 15% of the book, and I am not ashamed....can't wait for book 2 of this series, because I know Amber&Kyle's love is strong enough to make it through anything, even something as serious as this!!! Amazing book, deserves more than 5 stars!
Amber and Kyle have been together since they were kids, but a misunderstanding causes Amber to flee and leave her hometown and everything she loves. She spends six years away, but when she decides to return, will she be ready to confront her past?
Kyle is now a sexy, charming singer with a line of women behind him. Will he and Amber be able to clear the air and work on restoring the love and trust they had all those years ago?
The story had everything to keep me interested in finding out the answer to those questions. I really wanted to know how Amber and Kyle would react to seeing each other again. There were so many funny moments, as well as moments of anguish. The love that Kyle and Amber said they had for each other could be felt through my kindle and those intimate moments between them were extremely Hot!
The secondary characters are also very interesting. Paul and Holly, especially, are the type of friends you want to have in your corner. The very suspenseful situation at the end makes you wish you had book two ready to read once you're done. I can't wait to see how all this plays out.
*ARC given by the author in exchange for my honest review*
Kyle and Amber were completely in love until Amber walks into his bedroom and sees a naked girl in Kyle's bed. Without an explanation Amber packs up her stuff and leaves to start a new life. But when it happens to her again with her fiance she decides it's time to go home.
It's been 6 years since she's been back and doesn't know what to expect. She ends up getting a job at KC's Bar and Grille and that's when she runs into Kyle who is now her new boss and owner of the bar.
I was rooting for Kyle and Amber, their connection and love for each other is so strong. Once the situation that happened 6 years ago was discussed they both realize it was all a misunderstanding. I fell in love with this story. Once I started reading it I didn't stop until it was done. There are so many twists and turns that it just keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. I'm dying to read book 2 and cannot wait until it's out.
Thank you again Kathy-Jo Reinhart for allowing me to read your book.
Wow. Kyle Connor!! I enjoyed this read due to a few reasons. Actually many reasons. Kyle Connor being number one!! Amber and Kyle grew up together and both were I love with each other forever. When they are getting ready to go to college, there is a betrayal, and Amber takes off without a word. Kyle's world is shattered. He does what any make does, drowns his sorrows in booze, drugs and women. Amber slowly finds a new life, and fiancée in another city. Where heartache strikes twice. Back home to nurse her wounds, gets a new job, and guess who she runs into, her boss who is none other than Kyle!! When given a second chance at love, this is where I fall in love with the characters. Both older and wiser, Kyle and Amber have it all going for them. Twists and turns which I won't reveal. You just will have to read this sweet and sexy book for yourself!! Secondary Characters I'm hoping to see more of!! There is a sequel, so going to be worth the wait. Get your box of Kleenex ready!!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love rock star romances so I thought this would be a fun read. When you combine musicians and new adult characters you get a lot of emotion and passion. First Love definitely has that, along with a romantic suspense edge that I wasn't expecting. I was most entertained by the melodrama. I felt like I was reading a soap opera, which was fun.
I do think this book would benefit from additional editing as the verb tenses seemed awfully confused, especially in the beginning.
Seems lately that cheating is a big thing in books that I have read and more often than not, in fact the person who has been accused of the cheating hasn't exactly or in a way they weren't themselves, though in saying that there are some scumbags out there in the big bad world who are cheaters. Amber had her whole life planned, she was going to head to college with her boyfriend Kyle and move in with him and life was going to be swell as they were soul-mates and meant to be or so she thought, when she walked into his bedroom and heard the shower running and saw a naked girl sitting on his bed. She assumed the worst and left without a word as the smalltown of Oakville reminded her too much of Kyle and she couldn't afford to get her heartbroken again. Now six years have passed and Amber is back in Oakville needing another fresh start as she has again found her fiance cheating on her. Amber heads back into town and gets a job as a waitress but what will happen when it is discovered that the owner KC who is currently on tour with his band turns out to be none other than Kyle Connors - her first love and the one whose heart she ripped out and inspired their band name "Bleeding Hearts". It seems though that someone else has their eye on Amber , Beau and if he has his way Amber will be all his. What will happen when Amber discovers that Beau knows the truth about her parent's death and then finds herself clinging on to her life as Beau turns nuts. Can Kyle rescue her and this time the pair of them can finally receive their HEA? Find out in book #1 of the Oakville Series by Kathy-Jo Reinhart.
