Whispers from a Grave

Rate this book
The idea of doing this book took shape in Tamanna Sharma's mind way before she even started writing poems. She firmly believes that poems are a reflection of the heart, and as a person who feels deeply, her heart has been writing poems for a long time now. But she started to let her poems manifest onto paper only when she turned twelve. One can call this a collection of Tamanna's poems from her school days. But, the grave that whispers to her, she says, was never her school; it has always been she, herself. Every page is meant to represent a different day, and with it, a different emotion, and tells a different story, all eminently relatable.

The Book that Broke me.

Tamanna’s Whispers from a Grave is not for everyone....and I'll explain why.

At just 17, Tamanna has created an anthology that delves into life’s rawest emotions...pain, despair, hope, suffering, beauty, sorrow, and joy. It’s not a book you breeze through. I couldn’t finish it in one sitting. Not because it’s dull...far from it....but because the poems hit so hard that I needed to step away, absorb, and return when I was ready.

The intensity of its emotion is so overwhelming, so visceral, that I found myself needing to pause, to breathe, and to process the depths of its words. Tamanna has penned down some of the most soul-shaking poems I’ve encountered in recent times.

Some pieces are undoubtedly utterly gut-wrenching, They’re the kind of poems that make you pause and wonder what kind of experiences could lead someone so young to write with such depth and intensity. Tamanna’s gift lies in her ability to capture emotions that are both deeply personal and universally relatable, and she does it in a way that feels unpolished but undeniably real.. The lack of a traditional structure or rhyme scheme only adds to the anthology’s unpredictable nature....you never know what emotion or thought will greet you on the next page.

The theme of the book is not death but life....life in all its messy, painful, and beautiful reality. It is not despair, but hope; not an abyss, but the faint glimmer of a silver lining. And yet, this is precisely why Whispers from a Grave is not for everyone. It is a like a mirror sometimes, that reflects life’s harshest truths & emotions, and while it might offer solace to some...as it did for me, but it could also prove to be too heavy for others, especially those already burdened by grief or sorrow.

As I read, I couldn’t help but think of Hannah from 13 Reasons Why and how her poetry became her final plea, unnoticed by the world around her. Tamanna’s work carries that same haunting vulnerability....a sense that these poems come from a place of profound experience and emotion.

That said, Whispers from a Grave is not the most polished, performative poetry often found on social media. It feels raw, genuine, and deeply personal.....an offering from a young poet with an undeniably bright future. While I hesitate to single out any one poem, as many became personal favourites, I can say that each piece left an indelible mark on me.

That said, I don't recommend you this book If you’re in a fragile place, it might be too heavy...it forces you to confront feelings through its verses, that you might not be ready for. But if you can handle it, it’s worth the read and wholeheartedly recommended. Tamanna’s voice is honest, bold, and remarkable. She's a natural poetic talent at just 17(now 18), and this debut anthology is proof that she is destined to make her mark in the literary world.

Rating: 4.5/5. Honest, haunting, and deeply moving...but not an easy read.

Whispers from a Grave by Tamanna Sharma demonstrates remarkable courage for such a young writer tackling the intense topic of death. Her thoughtful exploration of mortality, combined with keen observations about human nature and environment, shows impressive maturity and skill. Sharma's ability to guide readers through her own introspective journey while explaining life's most profound themes reveals genuine wisdom beyond her years. This promising young poet-writer fearlessly approaches difficult subject matter with both vulnerability and insight.

Simple words, deep feelings — exactly what poetry should be.

This was the first book I’ve ever read, and I don’t regret starting my reading journey with a poetry collection. I loved the poems in Whispers from a Grave — they feel so real and deeply relatable to everyday emotions and situations. Tamanna Sharma is truly talented in the way she writes, and her words come alive throughout this book. For me, as a beginner, this was absolutely worth reading and has made me want to explore more poetry in the future.

Loved it the book is as beautiful as the author
The style is very raw and kind of like unfiltered
Some may not understand it because of the raw form but as for most it is good truly amazed that a 17 year old can write this kind of poetry but it is great

Each poem spoke to me about all the emotions that were buried deep within me, as if the poet ripped my soul apart and discovered what was hidden there.

Whispers from a Grave is a haunting and emotional read. Tamanna Sharma’s writing is beautiful and full of depth—it pulls you into the poem. I really liked how Tammana mixed mystery, emotion, and a touch of darkness. The poems kept me hooked, and the atmosphere was both eerie and poetic at the same time.

Overall it was a powerful and memorable book. The emotions, the suspense, and the writing style make it totally worth reading. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys heartfelt poems
