Don't Get Lost In The Woods

NOAH
I thought hiking in the woods would be a great idea but it turned out to be a bad one.
Not only do I have a terrible sense of direction, but a huge, beastly werewolf grabbed me before I could run and wouldn’t let me out of his clutches.
He did things with my body. Good things. Very good things. But afterwards, he still wouldn’t let me leave.
Possessive bastard.
Thankfully, I managed a sneaky escape and ran.

LUCAS
After years of waiting to find my fated mate, I finally caught his scent.
Of course, with my luck, it had to be on the full moon when I can’t control the shift. I couldn’t stop my instincts if I tried.
I claimed him. I worked his body so well he melted at my touch.
But he managed to sneak away before I could shift back into my human body.
What he doesn’t realize is that we’re bonded now. I’m going to find him, and he won’t get away so easily again.
He’s mine, and I’ll make sure he knows it.

Don't Get Lost In The Woods is a werewolf shifter MM romance story. It contains knotting, a sex scene between a human and shifted werewolf. Happily ever after guaranteed and no cliffhangers. No mpreg.
Trigger warning: There is mild dub con to start with but quickly becomes consensual before any intercourse happens.

Noah & Lucas
Rating: 3.4 ⭐

- Found Family
- Alpha/Alpha
- No MPREG
- Knotting
- Shifted Sex
- Wrong Place Right Time

This is mostly a fluffy smut read, there's no other way to put it. Overall, I enjoyed the book and the couple but it felt disjointed at times with minimal plot. This is a fated mates' story of a werewolf and a human trying to find their way to a HEA.
"I was lost in the run when I caught the hint of a smell that was so completely heavenly. Mate! I came to a skidding halt. I pushed my human side forward, tuning into my wolfs sense of smell. I could smell that my mate was a human. Sh*t!"

Noah owns a bookstore in a small town outside of the woods and Lucas is Alpha of his pack. They go from zero to 100, even with Noah trying to fight the idea of being forced into a mating he didn't choose. According to the book, a mating usually involves courting/dating between the mates but Lucas was shifted during the full moon when he scented his mate. He claimed Noah while in his hybrid form, since he couldn't shift to his full human form under the moon. Now Lucas has to try and woo his mate before Noah's first shift, or he could lose him to another. I would've liked more courting with less smut in this to be honest but the sweet moments and the banter we get in here are great additions.

PSA: They are intimate while in werewolf and in hybrid forms.

There's a villain, Marcus, but he could've been taken out of the story and it wouldn't have changed anything really. He's more a nuisance than anything, shows up twice trying to creepily convince Noah to leave Lucas. I'm assuming he's part of the overall plot line for the series and was just being introduced in this book.

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

DNF @ 69%.

I started off immediately confused with this one, since the author makes a disclaimer that this is a shifter book, *not* omegaverse.

But then she goes on to describe the pack dynamics: an Alpha, betas and omegas. Aka A/B/O aka omegaverse.

Not to mention, alphas have knots, omegas experience heats (but male omegas can’t get pregnant), and will produce slick when aroused.

I don’t know if the author believes omegaverse = mpreg, and therefore this isn’t omegeverse… but while the two can go hand-in-hand, they aren’t the same. But having alpha, beta and omegas makes it omegaverse.

Anyway, moving on from that point…

This book started off pretty fun, with a partially shifted sex scene early on. The plot is pretty light, and it was easy reading. The sex scenes maybe became too frequent for my taste, but at least they were varied, especially when your Alpha shifter can shift any body part at will… like a wolf tongue for rimming, or shifting his dick mid-fuck.

But, again, still an enjoyable read and I wasn’t looking for anything too plot heavy at the moment anyway.

However, when Noah’s friend Felix comes to the book store to ask him to order the rest of the series he is reading, Lucas asks what the series is about. And it’s at that moment that this author commits a cardinal sin:

“It’s a werewolf series. It’s by a new author called **Jacklyn Fox** and I hadn’t read her work yet so I didn’t want to go all in on the series straight away.”

Listen, if Stephen King couldn’t write himself into his book and have me not hate it, Jacklyn Fox isn’t going to either. An author self-inserting themselves into their books just makes me never want to read them again. Straight to the DNR.

(Also, how can you be a new author while also having a whole series for Felix to read?)

Very good debut 🥰
I was entertained from start to end but let’s be honest, this is mostly erotica. Smut level is 🔥
I deplore the lack of swoon and romance (a little bit) but I loved how Lucas had to fight a little bit to get his mate.
I love the fated mates, the shift, the alpha x alpha, the found family, the chasing, the possessiveness & especially The knotting 🫢❤️.
Even though it could have been swoonier, I felt in love with Lucas & Noah ~ both of them are cute and super funny.

Loved the pack dynamics and the side characters ~ so happy that next book is about Felix and Drew ~ ❤️
I wished the author would have gone deeper into the pack, their dynamics, their role etc.
I enjoyed the shift and wish we could have seen more of it.

The only thing I did not get was Marcus.
Why writing about it if you’re not gonna use him? It did gave a little “angst” to the story but it was not developed at all. Which gave the plot a flat development. Marcus could have not been here, it would not have change the story for me.

The story could have easily gone up to 100/200 more pages with more pack things/ courting/ dating between the main protagonist to get to know them more and the whole vilain thing.
But as it’s the debut of this author I will just say I cannot wait for the next book.
I really enjoy her writing and I see the potential in it.

A very good 4 stars for me ❤️

Thanks the author that has provide me with this ARC ❤️🥰

4/5 special dog toys ;)

Where do I start. Well for one this book was very fan worthy hot.
We love fated mates right? It's a lot of human sensibility vs nature and fate all mixed together. Jacklyn comes out swinging with the first scene of the mates finding each other and getting down and dirt in the forest.
What Noah doesn't realize is that he wasn't just hunted down by a beast, but his mate who is also a werewolf.
We get a lot of feels from Alpha Jonas being extremely lonely and very excited to find his mate wandering the woods during the full moon.
There is a lot of push and pull due to Noah being a human and knowing what he is feeling is way too fast and way too soon.
But we know fate works in mysterious ways.
Perfect mate banter, scorching hot chemistry, cute domestic moments, mate mark nibbling and a "villain" keep this book moving through a storyline without being too serious or deep.
It was a light read and had a good background and it even sets you up for book 2 ;)
Overall, it's a great read if you want some hot spice quickly and it's a relatively quick read.

ohhh this book 🔥

i got the privilege of an ARC right this one and i’m obsessed with it!
possessive alpha, knotting 🫣, hot hot hot smut, sweet swoon worth characters… this book is literally the whole package. i LOVED it.

this book does have a pretty simple plot with a hefty amount of smut (freaking drooling) & it was amazing.
it was everything i would have wanted in a shifter romance, the possessive “mine” vibes gave it that extra boost (that’s my favorite trope).

overall a super amazing debut novel & it was such a good read.

i would have loved to see a bit more of the villain doing villain things 🦹‍♂️ but that’s just personal preference & me wanting a deeper plot!

I did enjoy this book a lot, i would 100% recommend this to anyone. 😍

I received an E-ARC from the author, and this is my honest review

Paranormal Romance is a genre that I'm very interested in and when i got the chance to read it through Don't get lost in the woods, Author Jacklyn Fox ensured that i will now be hooked to her future works.

Don't get Lost in the woods blends reality and fantasy in a unique way that differs it from other werewolf romance stories. We've also gotten a rare genre of Alpha X Alpha since Wolfsong which makes it even more special for me. The narrative, the swoon and of course the smut, makes it all more captivating.

Lucas, the alpha of a werewolf pack who has been searching his mate for years, finds Noah, a human lost in the woods, to be his destined one. From the moment they meet till the end Lucas ensures and proves that he will be worthy of his mate though the intro dub con might not be for everyone. And Noah, who is pulled into a world he never realized existed, learns to adapt to his attraction to Lucas and embraces their matehood. Their connection was instant from the moment they met, and seeing their relationship grow was beautiful. The banter and the humor between them kept things light, while their intimate moments were beautifully written and added depth to their bond. My only confusion here is Marcus, who plainly had no role here. Other than that it is a great story.

Overall, Don't Get Lost in the woods is a wonderful blend of humor, drama, and romance and of course spicy as hell. It's the kind of book that sticks with you long after you've finished it, and I congratulate the author for an amazing debut novel.

Smut is the absolute worst thing to happen to romance because it’s made a bunch of people think, if they can write sex, they can be an author. But it’s even worse when the author can’t write sex. And yeah, I get it, we’re supposed to treat authors with kid gloves. Not sure why when we’re being conned out of our hard earned money to buy bad books. This kind of deference doesn’t apply anywhere else. Are movie reviewers out there being kind to directors because it hurts the feels?

This book is just talking interspersed with sex. Nothing happens! The villain is just a trash talking teen. The entirety of the villain plot is two Alphas just squaring up, throwing around a school yard barb or two, and then walking away. It’s laughable. Wait, no… the sex was laughable. I don’t even know how to describe it. The dirty talk was like a bad porn script. “So good, so big, yes there… harder” over and over again. Is it possible to cringe so hard you pull a muscle?

But, like every less than mediocre book, it has a bunch of five star reviews. Is the bar really this low or… wait, is that ARC reviews I see? Well that explains a lot.

Anyway! The book is dude gets raped in the woods, but it’s ok because he enjoyed it. Romance authors are the worst rape apologists. Noah isn’t bothered about the rape, he went hiking so it’s just the cost of doing business right? He’s not even bothered by the fact he’s expected to give up his whole life, or mated without consent. He’s bothered about something though… not sure what it was, but I know it was only needed to introduce some weak conflict in an attempt to have some kind of a plot, I guess, thin as it is.

Anyway, there goes another author who thinks they can write because arc reviewers skimmed the book and gave a five star review.

Shifters ✔️ MM romance✔️ Fated Mates✔️ Some of my favorite things to read were included in this book. I really enjoyed reading it. This book wasn’t too long and wasn’t too short. It was the perfect length and i enjoyed it enough that I read it in a day or so.

It majorly revolves around a chance encounter between a human hiker and an alpha werewolf looking for its mate. The book lays out the difficulty that a human has becoming submerged in a world that before had only existed in books and myth. Going along with Noah as he embarks on his journey to fully understand Lucas’s world was such an enjoyable read.

This book has a very small amount of outside conflict but for the most part, the conflict is contained within the relationship of these two men. I adored Noah and the way he lives a simple life with a small amount of people he trusts. But I also very much enjoyed the complete alpha energy that is there with everything Lucas does.

I read this book right after I finished a dark, deep, heavy story and this was the perfect follow up because it wasn’t too angsty and it was very spicy. I enjoyed every spicy scene that the two had. This book was a great story of these two men from different worlds and how they interact with each other. I would definitely read future stories by this author and would recommend this to anyone who wants to read a paranormal MM romance that won’t rip your insides out.

“You feel so good, little wolf. I can’t believe I get to keep you.”

I've been waiting for this arc for a while, ever since Jacklyn sent me a draft of the first chapter 6 months ago. I patiently waited and was not let down by the final result! Although I will tethink my next dog toy purchase 🤣

🌈 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗲
Both of the MC's are well written, Lucas' dominant alpha energy is matched by Noah's rebellious spirit.

🌶 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗨𝗽
Spice is spicing alot (werewolves hello!!)
It's no spoiler to say Lucas and Noah are hot for eachother ALL the time!
Jacklyn covers the details of werewolf mating in such a great way way, like I never thought reading a scene with two werewolves in wolf form going at it would be hot, yet here we are!

🌲𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲
It's a great, fast-paced love story. The plot isn't deep but it sets a good scene, unravelling a tale of ove and destiny. 💗
Felix was quirky, endearing, and a wildcard I can't wait to read about!

I didn't enjoy reading this book. Lack of consent, selfish Alpha character, being fated mates as an excuse for horrible behavior all made this an unpleasant to read book. There was very little world building on the werewolf society and very little conflict other than the Alpha basically thinking he had the right to take over this humans life because he was his mate. The human being upset about things and then just shrugging it off because at least the sex (that he kept getting manipulated into) was hot was also really annoying. The was the only part of the book I found tolerable.

"𝚂𝚝𝚒𝚌𝚔𝚢 𝚋𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚜 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚏𝚞𝚗!"

•My Thoughts•
Spicy werewolves anyone?! And I mean like, the spicy spicy kind!

I love a man obsessed and Lucas, an alpha werewolf, is exactly that when he unexpectedly stumbles upon Noah in the woods during the full moon. Sexy shenanigans ensue...and while Noah thinks he can just go back to working his bookstore life, it doesn't really work that way when you're fated mates with an alpha.

This was, dare I say, a *cute* human/shifter story. Very low angst, high heat, and perfect to for in between the heavy reads!

Fun werewolf story with lots and lots of spice, I enjoyed the couple even though it starts a bit sudden and kind of No-con. Lucas has a lot of love to give and Noah has a lot of adjusting to do to feel comfortable in his new life. The set up of the world was interesting a would happily pick up more of this series.

Do feel like the book could have benefited from some extra editing due to a few random confusing errors in the text but the book and story was still enjoyable.

Thank you @jacklynfoxauthor for providing me with this ARC.

I highly enjoyed this wolf shifter book. It had lots of banter, funny dialogues, no angst and a lot of spice.

Noah and Lucas are fated mates. Noah is human though and the whole mating, shifter, werewolf stuff scares him and he doesn’t make it easy for Lucas to get what he wants.

Very entertaining read. Thank you 😊
