Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.
After a cataclysmic battle with Kane several months ago, Reagan is trying to move on. She might wake up screaming in terror from his starring role in her ever present nightmares and Miller is definitely still trapped at the Colony, but Reagan’s life is free of Kane Allen.
Or so she thought.
A mysterious gift shows up on her bed one day and the anonymous sender is easy to figure out. She has a stalker, and this time he refuses to give up until one of them is dead.
Add that to the growing list of other problems- accidental injuries, the Colony’s continued attacks on the compound, intelligent Zombies that seem to get smarter every day and failed attempts to rescue Miller- and the Zombie Apocalypse has never been more frightening.
Can all of Reagan’s loved ones survive the end of the world? How about those she doesn’t love. Will she ever see the end of the evil side of the Allen family?

Now she spends her days writing stories and raising five amazing kids.
One of my favorite things about this series is the fact that it's ongoing, written in the style of a T.V. show—in "episodes". This means that you get to follow the same cluster of characters over a long period of time. The thing I hate the most about a book I love is that it has to end. With such a long series, that's not as big of a problem. I can't get enough of these characters, and just when I think I've gotten used to living with them in their world, it gives a little bonus change of perspective and I get to see it fresh from the eyes of a secondary character. By the time I finished Volume Three, I had spent over a thousand pages trying to survive the apocalypse with Reagan and her adopted family, and still thirsted for more.
I was glad to see Reagan and Hendrix drop some of their relationship angst going into this volume. They're obviously perfect for each other, and having them admit it just left more room for that frustrating sexual angst. Just because our original heroines have paired off doesn't mean we have to lose the tension and drama though. The tension between Tyler and Vaughn is palpable, and I spent most of the book waiting for sparks to fly.
The struggle with Kane and his father gets a lot more down and dirty in this edition. Things are getting even more obsessive, which I didn't realize was possible. I stayed frustrated with Reagan for not just killing him any time he showed up. His fascination with possessing her is beyond creepy. I understood her hesitance sometimes, though. It really does seem as if he just doesn't have the ability to understand why so many of his actions are unacceptable. He's almost sociopathic, as if he's unable to feel appropriate emotions, and is therefore unable to act on them. Serial killer in the making that one.
There were a few continuity errors it seemed, and a few times the same plot felt a little beaten to death. Still, I can't seem to quit this series and none if it dampened my enjoyment of it. I devoured this one just as I've devoured the rest, like a guilty pleasure I want to pressure everyone else to give in to. ~ George, 5 stars
well heart in the mouth with this series right now.the end was such a cliffhanger.and we have the introduction of new characters and I feel the whole tone of series 2, is going to be darker both with emotions and events. I loved the Hayley POV and would love to see a Hendrix and nelson and Vaughan POV through this series or as stand alone items to read.Rachel Higginson has done it again.brilliant read :) ***spoilers**** I feel a Parker brother may not survive to the end of this series 2 I feel it could be a younger one or Vaughan trying to save Tyler or another member of his family.I may be wrong but a gut feeling.I will be devastated but it would drive the series in a new direction.also love how the zombies have grown smarter or is it just the weather helping them be smarter? can we trust these new characters?
This is an interesting series. It has humour so things don't get too heavy but at the same time they do loose people and there is violence and killing.
The series is a long one and these main characters stories continue for 3 seasons. There is also a spin off series that deals with the sister later.
There is little intimacy. There is touching, hugging and a few kisses but no sex until much later in the last season. The main 2 characters have love interests but due to the nature of the start of the virus and the constant threat there are no intimate scenes until the end of season 3.
Each season ends on a HFN with an enemy thread running through the whole series. Each episode either ends as HFN with a goal set for the next or at times an immediate threat will run across several episodes. At the time I read these the whole series was on Amazon KU so it was possible to read one after the other or complete in a box set. If you start reading and want to get to a HEA you will need to read the entire 3 seasons. There is the immediate zombie threat which is constant but also the series deals with humanities reaction to survival. Often a bigger threat is the desire for power between the surviving groups and these at times use lack of resources and scientific experimentation to control the main threats. Later in the series there is a love triangle situation of sorts for the heroine. It's not exactly a love triangle but there is a dividing force between the main couple due to the interest from another man. There are no intimate details but there is a kissing scene with the other man, but at the time the main couple are not together. The characters are all very different, they have their flaws but they are college age so when they make mistakes and sometimes they are stupid ones I put it down to youth and although they have learnt survival through experience the threat is constant so it's not easy for them to be sensible all the time. There is a good bit of banter between the group and a great deal of humour. There are some serious issues dealt with too and the main human enemy threat is pretty evil.

What can I say about this series that I haven't already? I have absolutely no idea.
This series continues to make me its bitch. I'm not kidding. I can't help but love it. And even when it hurts me I come crawling right back to it. Even when Reagan irritates me and does something that I think will ruin her and Hendrix's love, even when I just want a little bit more down time for Haley and Nelson and Reagan and Hendrix, even when Reagan irritates me further by giving Kane the time of day (no, I don't hate Kane...I'm just a Hendrix loyalist), I STILL can't help but get sucked in to this world.
Ms. Higginson, at this point, you could sell me one page at a time and I'd buy it.
Season 2 definitely starts off with a bang. Lots of great twists and turns added in here and there to keep things fresh, and still such a great mix of humour and heart in each episode. Overall it falls off the 5 star mark b/c I had a few moments where I couldn't suspend my disbelief....and I may have also wanted to slap the main character a time or two. But despite that, I'm still totally sucked into the storyline and the world and anxious to find out what's going to happen next.
I still adore this series. Though I must admit, I prefer them to be written from Reagan's POV than Haley's although Episode 4 wouldn't have been that interesting if written from any other POV than Haley's.
I love this series despite all its flaws. The back and forth between Reagan's feelings for Kane...then Hendrix - drove me insane! Like anyone, even in a Zombie Apocalypse, would choose Kane over Hendrix...jeez!? The continuity errors and typos! Kane is at the Colony...then in the next book, he was at the Compound? 3 books ago, the Compound had some doctors...then the next book, Tyler is the the "nurse" because they don't have anyone?
These things mentioned make me roll my eyes - but I won't miss the next installment for anything! It's like being addicted to a daytime soap!! Highly recommend!
Reagan, Haley and the Parker clan are back! But unfortunately, so is the Allen crew (I like Tyler though, and poor Miller). This volume was crazy! I cannot wait to get started on volume 4. And Reagan and Hendrix forever!!
Wowee this series is fantastic! I love all the fight scenes, the humor and also the difference POVs. Those Parker brothers are just the bees knees. Kane making lots of appearances is annoying and how Reagan is with him. I know there always needs to be a antagonist, but I just want him gone! Anywho.... by the end I was amping for more and can't believe how fast I read this. Straight onto volume 4 for me!
This series is awful. But the kind of awful where you get invested in the stupid characters and can’t put it down for days at a time all the while marking the spelling errors and getting annoyed at having to read the same sentence written 4 different ways in one paragraph.
Love and Decay has been one of my favorite post-apocalyptic series. I have loved the quick wit, humor, romance and of course all the action. It has all the elements that satisfy.
This particular volume and season was just a bit slow for me where the previous ones move right along. I am looking forward to moving away from Kane and colony and getting on with the Parker family journey. Reagan has developed a complex, she thinks she has to protect and save everyone as if no one else can and ignoring her own injuries as if that is really possible. That is annoying. I am hoping the next season is a little quicker paced and wrapping up the Kane and colony thing.
As season 2 starts up, so does the tension. And so does Kane's attempts at getting Reagan back. Tempers will flare, drastic, life altering actions will be made, and now zombies are changing. Everything they thought they knew about this infestation is thrown out the window. Will the group be able to keep themselves together or will outside 'distractions' tear them apart?
I absolutely recommend this serial series and all the goodness it holds. So much goes down in season 2, you won't want to miss out!
I'm starting to feel like we aren't getting anywhere. Sure, each story is filled with heart stopping action and gore but at the end of the day we are right back where we started with. And I'm not really sure how much more action our heroine Reagan can handle. Frankly, in a real zombie apocalypse the ladder incident would have killed her. A cut that bad from a dirty ladder would have required antibiotic to get in there systemically. A topical would not have done the job.
Have to read this zombie series it's epic. I ignored the call of Spain's sea and sand to read this brilliant series. Kindle one click made me read the entire series while on holidays in Spain. An epic adventure filled with lust, love, blood, kisses, zombies, action, suspense, intrigue, fear and resilience.
Can't get enough of this series, so glad there are other volumes to look forward to. Continues to be so well written, I feel like I'm there with these characters. I actually found myself laughing out loud one minute & gasping the next in this volume. Action, adventure, not your regular love triangle!
Love this series and the second season is absolutely gripping so getting them all in one volume like this is amazing - can't wait to see how this plays out, I'm left on the edge of my seat after each one !
I love the 4 book bundle. I feel a little more connected and remember things better. But, things just don't get any better for our heros/heroines. As my mom used to tell me 'if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all'. This poor group hasn't fared much better. Rachel...you're the bomb!
Romance with zombies. Not sure I believe the Kane and Reagan relationship arc but then I am aware that people stay in abusive relationships so maybe this is realistic and I'm struggling to empathise from my experience.
I'm beginning to like Haley more than Reagan. What is it with the love triangle? Can't a girl just make up her mind and stand by it? Zombies. Just give me more zombies.
2.5 stars. I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the previous volumes in the series. I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. Not sure if I'm going to continue the series or not.
