everPresent: How the Gospel Relocates Us in The Present

Rate this book
For many, the call of the Great Commission to “to go and make disciples” conjures up images of tireless, ceaseless activity. Evangelism programs can be robotic; sharing the gospel with strangers on the street can be terrifying; mission trips overseas can be expensive. In our efforts to go and make, we often forget that the very places we already inhabit are places that we have been sent with the good news of Jesus.

For me, the reality of all of life being worship and God being everywhere and doing something for His purposes & glory is a familiar one; yet Writebol expresses it in a fresh and unique way. In Part 1 Writebol introduces a theology of place and then talks about the gospel from that vantage point - creation-fall-restoration as location-dislocation-relocation. Part 2 looks at this everpresent gospel in the spheres/places of life - home, work, social settings, and the city. Here, Writebol shows how God is present and what His purposes are in each of these places, and that missional living is simply being present in the everyday places we inhabit.

This short book would be great for anyone who needs a deeper understanding of the gospel (which is always every one of us), and for those who might live/act as if there is a division between the sacred and secular.

Start reading on April 14, 2014 and I finish this book on April 19th, 2014.

This is a very different kind of book that I ever read on being everPresent in your community for Christ. How we are to live our life in everPresent way in family, home, work field, friends, social with others that doesn't go to church, and many others way. Coffee shop is one of his favorite places to go. Coffee Shop is a great place to reach out to other since a lot do go there. Now, I wouldn't go to Coffee Shop since I can't stand the strong smell of coffee. I do go to Bojangles but not to eat there but to get away from home and away from this computer. When I am at Bo's, Since I mostly do my bookworm time and Bible Study time alone there with my hearing aids turn off so that I can focus on my Bible Study or reading books. Now, with this book, I should interact with others there at Bo's and other places like that. It is an eye opener book to read and how we should reach out to others in everPresent way for His Glory.

It is a great short easy reading book. I do have this book in e-book format.

A quick read that uses the restorative truth of the gospel to indicate how we might relate to others in four spaces of our lives (Home, Office, Social Environments, the City). Writebol is clear and encouraging in his writing and I think this book serves as a good reminder to be present and purposeful where the Lord has placed us.

A timely challenge to "be where you are"

Writebol connects the theology of God's omnipresence with the Christian faith by calling us to be where we are. Never in history has human presence been so disintegrated and fragmented. This is a simple but timely and profound message for the church today as we consider how to live faithfully in the places we find ourselves.

Living in the here and now, in the place and identity that Gods given us. What a relevant concept for our busy, rushing, always-on culture.
