Carmen was born and brought up in a chilly and windy corner of Scotland in the depths of the countryside.
This may explain her lifelong phobia of cows and abiding interest in cities, department stores, books, the cinema and newspapers.
She is currently working on her eigth novel for grown-ups and her third novel for teenagers. Well, she likes to keep busy.
Carmen did once study English Literature at University College London, but, ignoring everything she’d learned, she spent most of her 20s working as a local, regional and then national newspaper reporter.
Knowing deep down that she was supposed to be an author not a journo, she left her day job to have a baby and write her first novel. (Hey, and just four sleepless, penniless years later it was published!)
Although there is a corner of her heart that will always belong to London (property developers welcome) she now lives in Glasgow, Scotland, with her husband, Thomas, and two children, Sam and Claudie, plus Jimmy the (lunatic) Jack Russell and Clive, Orangey and Gorcha, the fish.
Fortunately her hobbies are cooking, cleaning, arguing about whose turn it is to walk the dog, clean the fish tank, take out the rubbish, do the laundry... and so on.
I didn't realise this was a series until I came on here. Still deciding to read the book as a standalone for loving New York and London reads. It didn't matter too much facts were re pointed which were needed for this story. I would like to read more though.
When Annie’s show is canceled, she wonders what she’ll do next. She’s used to working hard and has even been working on her finances, paying down her credit cards.
Former client turned best friend, Svetlana, calls Annie saying her daughter Elena needs help getting their new clothing line off the ground. When a financier up and vanishes, the two find themself with lots of orders but no material or factory to make them. Annie, with daughter Lauren in hand, take off to the Big Apple!
I was give this book not one i usually read. However I was very confused in what year the story was based on. I realised this was book 5 so I need to read book 1 to be fair on my review.
"Влюбени в Ню Йорк" от Кармен Рийд книга #3 от колекцията Love bestsellers.

This was my first book by this author. It is a series but is a can be read as a standalone. It follows Annie who juggles a successful TV show and a family until her TV show gets cancelled. She gets the opportunity to go to NYC and take her teenage daughter with her to help a friend with her struggling business. She leaves behind her husband and other children for several weeks to do this. I loved Annie and how resourceful she is and how devoted to her family she was. This was a cute book and would read more by this author.
This is the last book in the series that I am able to read at the moment (the last arent avaible for my country)
The story was ok, nice without too much fuss or things happening. I am (as always) impressed about Annie's "me, me me" mentality, but I will say that I did like the ending.
But I did get tired reading about how ungrateful Annie seems all the time, she is after all a grown woman, which is married and with kids.
I will continue reading the series if they get avaible for me :)
low-key loved this I read as a stand alone and made perfect sense and a good book for being written in 2011 the plot twist was very unexpected but good .I love the charator of elena and lauren I thought it was hillarious and the perfect amount of pages
I didn’t realise until I was about half way through this that it’s number 5 in a series. Maybe I’d find Annie (Darlin’, babes) less irksome if I’d started at book 1, but I’m not sure I would.
New York Valentine follows Annie on her journey juggling family, a career in fashion/tv and a love life. When Annie discovers her TV show How Not To Shop has been cancelled! She panics with what to do next, enter Svetlana and Elena who are having trouble with their new business Perfect Dress over in Manhattan, so Annie jets off with Lana in tow to help her realise what career she wants, leaving Ed, Owen and her new twin babies behind. At first Annie is home sick missing everyone so much, but once she gets down to business she really sees herself staying in Manhattan, for maybe longer than she thought..
I thought New York Valentine was ok, I enjoyed the storyline's. The good thing about this series is that even though there has been previous books it always seems in every chapter something is going on and something is happening to want to make you read more, which must be a challenge after three or four other books. I enjoyed seeing a bit more of Lana's character (Annie's daughter) now that she's older she seemed to be more grown up and discovering what she wants to do in life. I obviously enjoyed Annie, I think she is a fantastic character and so relatable and of course Svetlana who wasn't in this book as much and her daughter Elena. I thought it was hilarious when Annie jumped into the skip for materials, I could definately picture that, in her designer gear and high heel shoes! From the end of the book it sounds like there is a gateaway to yet another Annie Valentine book, whether that happens, we'll have to see
Good for a holiday read... Although I do like chick-lit, this book just didn't seem to be one of those that you can read without a few breaks. I was easily able to put the book down, and step away from it... However, it was written well, and was easy to go back to. I think I was just determined to read a book from cover to cover - I haven't read a book in full for over 5 years now, and I am using this one as a start to my reading collection again. This book is now in the hands of someone in Majorca, as I left it in the hotel for another book-lover.
I started this not realising it was part of a series, however this did not spoil my enjoyment of the story. I'll probably add the others to my to read list as once I got into this, I quite liked the characters. It was a nice easy poolside holiday read. I thought it took a while to get going but once it did, it was a nice plot line.
I didn’t realise this was part of a series, I picked it up 2nd hand with some other books and have had it ages. I don’t think it spoilt the book/story, not having read the others first. I did enjoy it tho so will put the others on my list to read, this is book 5 of a 5 part series.
Annie Valentine lives with her husband Ed, older daughter Alana, older son Oliver and 1 year old twins Micky & Minnie. She is a personal shopper on her own tv series. When the series gets cancelled she heads over to New York with her daughter Lana and helps out with her friends daughters dress business. There’s a few escapades in New York which makes the story quite funny. Her husband Ed and son Owen get into a-bit if strife whilst she’s away but all ends up ok in the end with the start of new adventures. Great little read
[2.5] what this book really would have benefitted from is an editor!! aside from the several spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, i found it, firstly to have a lot of characters to keep track of, that were all introduced within a few pages of each other, and secondly, to lack a sense of direction. some scenes seemed to go on for ages, without any real plot moving the story along, which i don't mind if there's some interesting character studies involved, but i found annie (the fmc) to be just as annoying at the end of the book. some of the storylines did interest me, e.g. elena's business and proving herself etc. but ultimately this was marketed as a 'romance,' / 'romantic comedy,' but it really was much more of a women's fiction. maybe this review is unfair, as this is book five out of an interconnected standalone series, but i'm definitely not rushing to read the others.
I received this book as a Christmas present, and it was just what I needed at the time. I was in the midst of essay writing and uni work, and this was a lovely, light and fluffy read. The novel put you right into the action of the story, and the writing was engaging and light. It was another easy read with a similar tone and pace that you get with most chick-lit novels. Despite finding out that it is actually part of a series, you absolutely don't need to read any of the other books for things to make sense. It works perfectly well as a stand alone novel. Whilst I enjoyed it, I don't feel the need to read any more in the Annie Valentine series. It didn't grip me enough to find out more about the character and her other escapades.
Annie Valentine, a middle aged mother of four, is a personal shopper with her own tv show. When her tv show is cancelled, she’s left at a loose end. When a friend needs her help saving her business in New York, Annie jumps at the opportunity.
This was book five in a series (which I didn’t realise until I started reading the book), but can be read as a stand alone.
This is a good book if you want something easy to read where you can quickly switch off and escape real life. Unfortunately I don’t think I was the right target audience for this book. I found that I wasn’t invested in the characters but wonder if I would have been had I read the other books in the series.
Thanks to @netgalley and Boldwood Books for the review copy.
I had zero idea that this was book 5 in a series but settled into it really well. It was quite a cute book but there was a lack of romance or much of a big plotline to be honest and it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever written.
The blurb on the back of the book is so misleadingly wrong and the story is nothing like that at all. To start off, Annie does not land her dream job, she goes to New York as a favour to an old friend. She doesn’t take her daughter for mother daughter bonding and rather because she’s concerned her daughter has no career plans in place. Annie is not torn between her husband in London and New York and jumps straight back on a plane to him. The blurb makes it sound so much more agonising and full of drama, which sadly it wasn’t.
I didn't know that this was part of a series until I finished it, but it did well enough as a standalone. I really liked it. It was a fun read, however I felt that the stuff with Taylor was over almost as soon as it started. The teaser "has daughter Lana fallen for a heartbreaker?" was answered fairly quickly. And I was a bit annoyed at Annie for being naive enough to think she could move her entire family to New York just because *she* liked it. Thankfully she didn't, though. Anyway. It was an enjoyable book overall.

Firmly positioning itself in the trashy reads category, New York Valentine is fun, upbeat and, at times, comical. The plot is basic, the complexity of characters is basic and the ending is....well you've guessed it....basic. Or at least predictable. There is a secondary story embedded into the original plotline and it is dealt with so quickly that I'm slightly confused about its place in the book. It doesn't help that this secondary storyline is much juicier that the humdrum of the main plotline. But I have to admit that a trashy read is sometimes the best medicine.
A laugh out loud funny book about Annie Valentine and her complicated life. When Annie’s television show gets canceled she and her daughter, Lana go to New York to help out a friend with her dress company. Together they have some magical, hilarious adventures, finding material, getting noticed and going to the gym. A lovely warm hearted book to curl up with on a rainy day.
A quick read which followed Annie Valentine and her adventure in New York to save her friend’s dress business. There were a few twists and turns along the way and it was easy to follow all of the different characters and the journey they went on throughout the book. Would like to read more in the series to find out what else happens in Annie’s life.
The hardest decision i face after reading this fabulously hilarious story is wether to read it as a standalone or to read other books in the series! The book does a pretty good job of explaining the story so the reader doesn’t feel confused but I think i need more! Such an easy read!
Annie and Ed are fabulous! Their entire family adventures are amazing, interesting and you just keep wanting more. It's addictive! I heartily enjoyed this novel.
Fashion vs family. Annie has an amazing opportunity to live and work in New York City with Svetlana's daughter, Elena. The company is called The Perfect Dress and is run out of her apartment at first. I liked witnessing the company grow.
Lauren is growing up, and snatches the opportunity to go to the US with Annie. She loves the city, but can she find romance and keep it? Her immediate love for NYC was heartwarming.
New York Valentine is a mix of UK and US lifestyles. New York is so realistic and immersive. I really felt like I was there. I felt the same giddy anticipation as Annie and Lauren at the build up. to their trip. of a lifetime.
I felt for Ed and Oliver without them, and also felt for the twins, Max and Minnie.
I was wondering where Annie would shop in New York, and loved Fifth Avenue and all the stores she went to elsewhere.
This would have been a 3&1/2 star if I could do that but I decided to settle for 3 stars.
I read this book in a day!! And I really enjoyed it. It started to get really good when there was about 100 pages left, and the first half was still decent.
3.5 Annie and daughter, Lana, go to New York to help Eliana launch a New York branch of “Perfect Dress”.Of course, Annie and her family have many adventures in New York and London. Lots of fun and family drama.
This book literally got my attention at the corner of the shelf at the bookshop. It never let me down, the cover proved me that the story is way much better than the cover! Sexy and hillarious, full of adventureous!
