Coletti Warlords #4

Reality Bites

Rate this book
Bree never thought her dimwit act, military grade mace, cattle prod, or dumping a ton of stinky manure on Jaylan's head would encourage his pursuit. Who knew a Coletti warlord would think of being zapped with a cattle prod as foreplay? Or a determined opponent only heightened his enjoyment of the chase?

The chase comes to an abrupt halt when the Tai-Kok attack Tucson, forcing Bree to team up with the Coletti warlord to stop them. Suddenly plucked from Earth by a crazed Tai-Kok commander, Jaylan and Bree find themselves stranded on a hostile alien world, and being tracked by a deadly Askole assassin. It’s really not the time for the two of them to fall in love.

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. I just finished, Stilettoes and Gunpowder book #3 in the Gemma Stone series.

My husband just informed me that I'm acting like a 5 yr. old on Christmas morning and that's how I'm feeling! It's here, I have it in my hot little hands and I've actually started reading it about 1/2 hour ago. Hubby asked me what was taking me so long in the 'loo' and I had to admit to taking my book in there because I didn't want to put the book down long enough to 'go'. lol

Before I start again, I just couldn't resist posting to tell anyone following my reviews to Go. Get. This. Book! NOW!

It's sooooo good and I've only got a couple chapters read so far. I can't wait to see how it's going to go. It's going to kill me to go to work in a little while without finishing this. ARGH!

More to come. *squeeeee*

Yay, I finished it and enjoyed it so much! As usual Gail takes us on a wild ride so hold on tight. I love Gail's imagination. I don't know how she can come up with so much crazy stuff but I love the end results in all her books I've read so far and this one is just as much fun.

There are 2 things I need to mention though. The 2 main characters don't seem quite as fully fleshed out as some of her other characters. I think this may be because the story is quite a bit shorter than Vexing Voss. While it's still rollicking good fun, I was left wishing I had gotten to know Jaylan and Bree a bit better.

Jaylan is a sweetie who is scary and nurturing at the same time. Bree is hysterically funny and strong and supportive. They are very good together.

The other thing is the cliffhanger mentioned in some of the other reviews. I usually don't buy books with cliffhangers and I just wait until the whole series is written if the author has a tendency to write them. However this is the first time I'm glad I didn't know ahead of time that it was going to end in a cliffhanger as I might not have purchased it yet. Although, it's Gail we are talking about here, so who knows as I have to admit to being a bit fan-girly and stalkerish where Gail is concerned.

However, this cliffhanger was not really integral to the story line in this book. This couple's story is wrapped up well even though it is obvious that the series is going to continue. The cliffhanger was tacked onto the end of this story almost like Gail just couldn't resist letting us know what is going to happen in the beginning of the next book. I would have been happier if she had just added it as a blurb for the next book rather than putting it this one as a cliffhanger. Gail doesn't need to 'prime the pump' with cliffhangers in my opinion. I'm going to buy anything Coletti that she writes anyway as I love her writing!

So to finish up, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who adores over the top ribald sci-fi action, adventure and romance. It's just darned good fun and you will laugh a LOT! I did.

Cookie cutter

The stories are entertaining, but it seems the same. A Coletti warrior find his mate, she fights the pull and runs away and he chases after her. They get into a situation where they end up fighting side by side as they fight for their lives. She's a cranky witch until she gets chocolate and he is an arrogant jerk. They pickup strays/kids along the way that end up becoming allies. So this happened in the last few books that I feel the author just put different names and pushed out another book.

This was a great book! Gail is a funny, entertaining, and an action packed author! If you haven't read Gail before I would recommend her! So, on to the book! Jaylan has just discovered his mate Bree...but there's just one problem! Bree doesn't want to be claimed and she will use all the tricks in her bag not to be caught. What's a little, poop, cattle prod, and stink bombs between friends?! LOL! Enjoy reading....I did!

I purchased this book last night as soon as I saw it was available on amazon and I'm already finished. If nothing else that should tell you that Reality Bites was awesome :) Lots of LOL moments and a h that could think on her feet and roll with the punches. Jaylen was OTT...just the way I love my BBF's. This will go in my re-read pile along with Vexing Voss.

Bree and her father lead a band of resistance fighters against the Coletti warlords and aliens who have invaded planet Earth. Knowing the Coletti's are searching for sirens Bree is extra careful to hide her own psychic abilities knowing that if she's discovered her fate is to become just another of the brood mares that many of the Jones' women have already.

Jayden is on the hunt for prey. A special kind of prey packaged as a female but can become so much more if angered or deprived of chocolate. But. He is Coletti and will triumph.

Watch out world as another Coletti warlord bites the dust.......

First and foremost this is not a series that has any ounce of serious alien action-adventure drama or seriousness. It's a laugh out loud sci-fi romance featuring stick in the mud male alpha warriors who meet a mate who is their polar opposite yet mentally strong and courageous enough to take them on.... And win. A journey of bad luck and mayhem adventure that ends in the most delicious of HEA endings.

Jayden, who has been cameoed in previous installments, is a loyal and fearless warlord who I giggled over as he experienced some of what the Coletti men have in previous installments. The author sure has a devious mind in her many roadblocks that Jayden will have to deal with to claim Bree. The military could learn a thing or two from Ms. Koger if aliens ever do invade our planet....

As for the core romance. This tale is for the most part humorous with brief glimpses of romance that will have the reader oohing and ahhing in pleasure. The adult content does include descriptive scenes including the male Coletti anatomical and sexual differences that results in extreme satisfaction for their partner on both the mental and physical level. hehehehe....

Included is the secondary characters of which not all are human. How it's possible for an author to feature creepy crawly, repitilian, and predatory animals as cute and cuddly is beyond me but she makes it happen. I so want my own Madal, Tiko, Cokie, and especially Rami. Just sayin'

The big question any first time reader to this series would have is probably if it can be read as a standalone. I do wish the author would have included a prologue that gives an overview of the series in general to explain the Colletti race, sirens, and the role of Zarek, etc. as then I definitely think I could say that this installment could be read as a standalone. Unfortunately, without that information and back story information many aspects of this can't be appreciated or put into the context of how wonderful the actual story is. So. it is my recommendation that you really should read the previous installments before this one. If you have read the previous ones, sit back and enjoy as another installment of chocoholic Jones' girls brings down another Coletti warlord.... And he likes it. :D

Strong females who take no orders from men and cause plenty of trouble are trademarks in a Ms. Koger book. Included at no extra cost is chaos, disasters and sexy men with an amazing penis. What's not to like about her books? In Reality bites, yet another Jones female is doing her best to stay off the breeding radar. She and her stepfather don't buy into the protection from the Coletti warlords. They want all aliens gone from Earth.

Bree's specialty is to wreak havoc against these alien overlords as part of the Resistance. She's been brought up on hate for these males. Personally, I find Bree a bit foolish for her cause, but she's been effectively brainwashed by her stepfather. While Ms. Koger tries to show this is all for the good, it's quite apparent, Bree is a fool. She is young, headstrong, impulsive and in need of a good spanking. Lucky for her, Jaylan is more than dominant enough to discipline her. In this story, more than any of the other stories, I really rooted for the aliens. Bree's antics are foolhardy, dangerous and not well thought out. She's wild and needs to be taken in hand. Perhaps a good daily maintenance sodomy from Jaylan will help keep her in line. Doubtful.

What is a bit annoying about Bree is that it's never her fault. Someone else starts it and she "finishes" it. This is in the eye of the reader. For me, she gets herself into these situations. If she worked more with Jaylan, there would be less drama and better execution of a plan. However, in a dogfight, Bree is definitely an asset.

For those who enjoy insane situations, snarky heroines and much put upon alpha males, this is a fun read. From beginning to end, it's a ride on the crazy train. Usually, I'm not a fan of the crazy train and I want off of it. When Ms. Koger is the train engineer, it's "all aboard" for me. I loved the quirky ways she uses to get Bree out of trouble. I also like how she injects hot erotic sex. The fact that her males are dominating with a slightly intimidating penis is only a bonus. I do like how she makes these females heel to the men, yet not break. I really feel sorry for the Coletti men saddled with these out of control Jones women. I realize the point is for the Coletti to be able to keep their race from going into extinction. One wonders if the men truly understand what kind of children would result in this union. My bet is the men will tear out their hair if they have daughters. This demented space opera is a great read for those who enjoy laughing out loud.

I literally counted down the days until this book was released. I warned all of my friends and family that I would not be available on July 1st. They were not to bother me unless someone was bleeding or the house was on fire. I expected amazon to have it available at midnight. No such luck. Anyway when I finally downloaded it (from another site that had it before amazon), it wouldn't load onto my ereader. (Teaches me to be impatient!) Instead of waiting for my husband to come home and figure it out, I camped out in front of my computer in a very uncomfortable chair and read it. (It loaded on to my computer without a problem just not onto my ereader.) I have to say, Gail did it again. Fast paced action, snarky kicka** heroine, sexy alpha hero, great secondary characters, wonderful banter, lots of laugh out loud moments. I love Gail's books! As for the cliffhanger.... (I HATE cliff hangers! I usually wait until the series is done being written if there are any cliffhangers and buy all the books at once and marathon them. I almost always check the reviews to see if there is a cliffhanger before I buy a book.) This wasn't a true cliffhanger...the story line with Jaylan and Bree was complete. It was more of a tease about the next book..... which is due to come out in December! Kaylee is one of my favorite characters Gail has written (from Just My Luck). She is the heroine of Gail's next book. Cannot wait!!!

As a book addict, I usually read one book after another with barely a pause in between. However, I feel compelled to take a moment and express how much I REALLY enjoyed reading Gail Koger's Coletti Warlords series.

Both VEXING VOSS and REALITY BITES are fun, snarky, sexy, fast-paced books in a world I definitely want to visit again and again.

Looking forward to the next installment to feed my need for sexy sci-fi!

I'm not one for writing reviews since I never seem to articulate my thoughts properly, but I just had to try with this one.

I am always looking for a good Sci-fi Romance and I get a thrill whenever I find one. This is definitely one of them. What's even better is that this is a series. Yes! I love the humor in this one (as well as the rest of the series) and the adventure is perfect. Great romance and so much fun. I just wish it was longer! But then, I always do when I find a book I enjoy this much. :)

Maybe one day we will even get lucky enough to get a book where we get inside a Coletti mind for their point of view. I would love to hear their thoughts when dealing with these women.

Definitely worth getting. I am still smiling from reading this!

Another wonderfully fun addition to this series. It has it all, laugh out loud humor, hot alien sex and lots of things going smelly ka-boom. The world building is complete and easily visualized. The series overall story arch is moved along nicely.

The cast of characters are so varied. All of the secondary ones add a great deal to this book. But I really loved Bree, she is a great, well rounded character. She kicks ass, but is intelligent enough to know and realize when she needs help.

This is not a stand alone book, it is a must read in series order to understand the world and relationships involved in this book.

Well done Gail, and that ending...I can't wait for the next in this series.

I couldn't wait for this book to be available and bought it during my lunch break at work (i couldn't wait until i got home). I love Gail's characters and i have not come across another author who makes me laugh as much as she does. If you haven't bought this book yet, then you are missing out on one hell of a ride. Do yourself a favour and buy any and all books of hers that you can find. The heroine is tough, sneaky, and impossible to control (in the best of ways), and the hero is super tough and nearly pulling his hair out trying to make her obey.
You will not regret buying this fast paced, action packed, adventure ride of craziness.
Be prepared to laugh your head off!!!!

I was very excited when I heard this book was coming out. I have loved the three books prior and was hoping for a similar but different story.
Honestly it took me hours to read the first 5 chapters because it was so similar to at least two other books in the series and I had to keep stopping. I was a little disappointed because I was so looking forward to this book. About the 5th chapter it started getting a little better and I was able to quickly finish reading it after that. I still really like this series but this won't be my favorite part of it. I would still recommend it.

I loved this book it was entertaining, funny, with lots of action and in between the hot steamy sex scenes there was lots of fighting and blowing things up. I just love those Jones girls with their grit and personality
and then there are those extremely Hot Coletti men, can you say ALPHA anymore than with a Coletti. I love this series, keep up the great writing. I can't wait for the next one to be released.

Score another win for Gail Koger and Reality Bites. I can not believe how much fun this book is. The third in the Coletti Warlords series Reality Bites delivered on all fronts. There was the prerequisite snark and banter, over the top alien stud muffins and chocolate - lots of chocolate. How much fun would it be to live in this world? Do yourself a favor and make Gail Koger a must read author. She doesn't disappoint. My only regret is that now I have to wait for the next book!!

Fabulous!!!!!

I truly wish I could give this more than 5 stars. Action packed, like Vexing Voss and a lot sexier. I think Bree and Jaylan are an excellent couple. She is sass and fire. He is just plain war Lord bad ass....tenacious. The host of other critters and characters even out the story and keep the laughs coming. I even appreciate the ending....can't wait for the next installment.

I wasn't going to read anymore in this series but curiosity got the better of me and I asked my friend to lend me a couple more books in the series. While I find them somewhat entertaining, I must say that this book followed the same exact formula from the first book in the series. Also this book ends in a major cliff-hanger, which makes me glad that I have the next one in the series to read right away.

Overall, the book was okay, just nothing new.

What did I think? FREAKIN' GREAT, it gave me just what I wanted; fun, funny, fast paced, action paced, romance, strong hero, and a strong and resourceful heroine. This was a eagerly anticipated read from Gail Koger and she delivered on the entertainment. I loved it! She can't write a bad book or boring story if she tried. I love her Coletti Series and I am awaiting her next installment.

Another Jones girl in trouble - no, not that kind of trouble - the kind that involves a Coletti Warlord hot on her tail, err, trail! This is further complicated by the heroine being second in command of Earth First - the resistance movement against Coletti/Alliance/Askole taking over Earth in order to protect it.

Besides the usual explosions, icky [and occasionally cuddly] critters, there are also cattle prods and about a ton of manure...

I anticipated the fun this book would be when I had a chance to read it with its overbearing, gruff, but loving warlord hero and the sassy, savvy, and 'seat of the pants' lucky human heroine out to save the galaxy while playing chase with each other. And it didn't disappoint. Within the opening pages, I was snorting with laughter and falling in love with a pair of new characters.

This is the fourth book in the Coletti Warlords series, but it is written in such a way that it can be read out of order or as a standalone. Jaylen, the hero, is a recurring character from the beginning, but his role was minor enough so that the reader can pick this one up and not be lost.

The story opens with Bree working the desk for the Earth First secret mission group that she and her adoptive commando father started to save all the psychic human females from being taken by the Coletti as mates. Their organization has been so successful that the Coletti Overlord has sent Jaylen to hunt down their bases and destroy them. Jaylen finds her and senses the base, but Bree has a few tricks up her sleeve to show the Coletti that he takes a bit too much for granted.

Unfortunately, her snazzy bit of zigging and zagging garnishes her his undivided attention and now his hunt takes on a more personal nature to make her his mate. During their unique brand of courtship involving cattle prod, manure dump, skunk bombs and a whole lot of chase, they are interrupted by a Tai-Kok attack on earth. The Tai-Kok snag Bree to use against Jaylen, but that is the beginning of their new adventure on a hostile alien world where everything including the trees will eat you. It's during this survival portion of their courtship that they start to come to terms despite the interruptions of several deadly members of the populations, some Coletti mercenaries and an Askole assassin. All in a day for these two, right?

The plotting on this one bares strong resemblance to the ones that have gone on before it and yes I would go so far as to say its formulaic. But hey, once in a while I enjoy being able to count on things going a certain way in my story. That being said, this one didn't quite end the same way the rest. There was a cliffhanger that will take us into the next book. I enjoyed the blend of never-stop action with human, the intro to the odd alien creatures that are encountered, the back and forth between the main characters and the connection to the familiar past characters.

The pacing has its slower periods, but for the most part it doesn't stop. Even the passionate scenes are explosive, but fast.

Speaking of the passion, this one gets up to some hotter than usual sexy time gymnastics. Truthfully, if the stories have a weak spot, its the character and romance development. By this I mean that the heroine and hero are pretty much the same from opening to exit and there isn't much time given to them getting to know each other or achieving personal growth. The connections are not able to be fully established. However that is not the case in this story. I am pleased to note that a bit more care was taken to develop a deeper connection between Bree and Jaylen. They do get beyond the 'you're mine' to the 'I need you'. Of all the couples in this series, these two demonstrated a more true partnering. They worked together and had mutual respect. It really helped that they shared more scene time. I think the author really stepped it up a notch in her writing with this story and I was so glad to see it.

So even though this one was a shorter segment in the series, it offered all of what I enjoy when I read it and achieved more depth. Those who enjoy passionate, fast-paced space adventure romances should give this book and the series a try. I can't wait to find out what comes next.

Gosh, it's been a while since I've read this series. I had them in paperback years ago but when we moved houses, I couldn't take all my books with me :-( But thank God that I found them on Amazon! At a steal too --- $0.99!!!

I'm such a fan of Gail Koger's books bec it's action packed and fast. The dialogue is witty and funny. I love that the heroines are kickass. Bree is awesome! And how her relationship unfolds with Jaylan is a riot.

Now I'm off to read book 5! 😁

‘Reality Bites’ by Gail Koger

I waited (mostly patiently) for months for the release of “Reality Bites’ by Gail Koger and purchased it the first day it was available. I tried my best to read it slowly, but no such luck – I finished it in one night.
I love it when a book contains all of my favorite things to read about – action, adventure, romance, sci-fi/paranormal – oh, and let’s not forget the steamy scenes! This book (and the entire series) has it all, and I give kudos to Ms. Koger.
I’ve been hoping since I read the first Coletti Warlord book that Jaylan would get his own story, and Bree was more than capable of taking him down a peg or two. The action is non-stop from the first chapter and the sarcastic humor that riddles the dialog is classic Gail Koger. The characters are well-developed (Bree in the prologue and Jaylan from the previous books), the scenes are vivid and flowing and the action sequencing is perfectly choreographed.
‘Reality Bites’ is the fourth book in Ms. Koger’s Coletti Warlord series, and even with the tiniest bit of a cliff-hanger ending, it is every bit as entertaining a read as the first three. I highly recommend this book (and the others in the series) to anyone who appreciates the genre. Now I just have to have patience to wait for the release of the fifth book, ‘Just Desserts’, and a nice supply of chocolate!

Having loved Vexing Voss, I dived right into Reality Bites. Bree is fierce warrior of Earth First where evil aliens (Tai Kok)attack and kill humans &Coletti. Bree is half Coletti with psychic powers-healing,telekinesis, & mind reading to name a few. Jaylan is a Coletti commander/ hunter that has claimed Bree as his mate, but she is not having it. She tries everything-loved the stink bombs and manure- to escape Jaylan, but he invades her mind & thoughts. They discover Bree is granddaughter of the Coletti Overlord Zarek-her father Thor was Zarek's son. The overlord helps Bree and Jaylan who get marooned on a hostile planet where Bree picks up some unlikely stowaways who she adopts.RB ends with Bree and Jaylan's mating ceremony that gets cut short by another alien attack. RB ends on a little cliffhanger but you do get their hfn. My only issue was it was the main relationship/"romance" was a little rushed. I would have liked to have seen more buildup between Bree and Jaylan- 3.5/rounded to 4*.
