The Seduction Game

Rate this book
When millionaire bad boy, Will Thornton, tries to buy computer-geek Kate Kelly’s building out from under her, she refuses to sell. Will might be uber rich, and super successful but she won’t be bullied. Trouble is, she didn’t expect Will to look like one of her fantasy heroes, or to make her heart beat a little too fast. She’s prepared to wait him out, but it'll take every ounce of her self-control to win this game.

With millions of dollars on the line, Will is positive he can make Kate sell. He’s played the game better than anybody and charming is his middle name. Problem is, the snarky, geeky, computer-wiz is nothing like he imagined—impossibly cute and a match for him in every way.

As a kid Emma wanted to be an astronaut, or maybe Captain Janeway. Because she didn't really think her career choices through very well she ended up in an everyday geek job, crunching numbers and sighing over syntax. It seemed a long way from the stars and in an effort to escape Emma decided to get serious about her other passion. Writing.

Several years later and Emma has yet to walk on the moon or sit in the Captain's chair, but she is still writing. She scribbles stories in all sorts of genres, contemporary, paranormal, post-apocalyptic, historical, sci-fi...if she hasn't tried it yet she will before long.

The only common theme is the romance. A hopeless romantic everything Emma writes has a love story in there somewhere.

If ever there was proof that geek is chic, The Seduction Game is that. My not so inner geek was in heaven with this complete lose-yourself-in-the-romance fabulousness. I loved everything about it.

description

Kate Kelly is a geek. A completely loveable perfect geek with a stubborn streak who owns a computer store, loves her sci-fi, what she doesn't know about gaming you could write on the back of a postage stamp and is happiest in jeans, t-shirt and Converse. Her home/business is the last building standing amongst the rubble of what is soon to become a modern development, Will Thornton needs her to move out so he can move the bulldozers in and he's no qualms in playing the seduction card to get his way. That man was gorgeous inside and out; a wealthy businessman and playboy he may be, but he is unaffected, down-to-earth, thoughtful, kind and persistent and it soon becomes less of a need to seduce and more of a want. And in my book, want trumps need every time.

"I’m the man who wants to take you back inside, strip you naked, and kiss every single inch of your skin...And I’m going to. But not now"

No no Will, now is absolutely fine...in fact, I insist because I am a shameless woman who wants you to.

The thing I loved was the pace of their growing feelings; yes it was over a couple of weeks and yes there was that instant attraction, but their chemistry and the build-up had that heavy air of realism and fabulous anticipation to it. As much I like to escape reality, I also love a book where I can relate to the characters and Will and Kate were exactly that.

It's fun, sweet, quirky, sexy, intimate and heartfelt and was an absolute pleasure to read. And, being a Brit, I have to confess that I did a little snigger when I saw our H/h were called Will and Kate. Definitely a book I’d recommend and I would love to see Kate’s BFF Meg get a book.

Kate is a computer game and science fiction pop culture geek who owns a small compute repair business and building its located in. That building is located in the dead center of a major neighborhood redevelopment that a sleazy developer has already started around Kate's business as part of an escalating bullying campaign to get her to sell. Enter Will, the owner of the development company that's been bullying Kate, recently returned from a stint in London and ready to make a last ditch effort to get her to agree to sell up.

Cue immediate chemistry between them that Will intends to leverage to get Kate's agreement despite her stubborn resistance to both a relationship and anything to do with giving up her property. Pretty soon they're both in over their heads.

Both of these characters are wonderful to read about, with Kate's passion for her various interests proving to be irresistible to responsibility-minded Will and the central issue around the redevelopment being a real one. There's a really cliched overheard conversation that sparks the climactic section of the plot, but the likability of both main characters and most of the supporting cast works enough to overlook it.

What a fantastic read this is! I loved every single crazy minute of it, because after all "geeks do it better."
Kate is the last hold out in a block of buildings housing her small computer business and her apartment upstairs. It's a small space but it works and it's been her home since her parents died. She works with her best friend Meg, who is a real piece of work. Kate has been fighting with the attorney handling things for the owner since day one. He's tried everything, her answer has always been no.
She's the sole hold out and keeping the project that Will Thornton is trying to move forward. When Will comes to town, he wants to meet with Kate. Will is pretty arrogant and thinks he's got game and a leg up on Kate. Not so fast there lover boy. They go to dinner. He can tell by her reaction to him she likes him, but her answer remains the same. No. Will has people who depend on him, this project is stalled and no matter how he explains it to Kate, she refuses to budge. When she brings Will into her world of geekdom, things change a little bit. Will finds himself relaxing, something his sister Jen pointed out he'd do well to do. It's so great to watch these two square off at times, but also their relationship shift and change. When Kate is ready to sign the contract she overhears a conversation between Will and his brother in law, who is the attorney. He's an arse of the nth degree and also a thorn in not only Will's side but his sister's as well. Running to her business she finds what little is left. All Will's doing. His sister also shows up at that moment. She's met with a very angry Kate, once she realizes she's his sister. Kate flees to the only place she can go. Will knows what he needs to do. Did he do this? Is he responsible for demolishing everything Kate owned? So many questions, the biggest of which is did he lie to her to get her to sign over her property so he could push his project through? Is he just that arrogant? This is a great read and one that will keep you flipping those pages to see what happens next. I loved Kate and Will and all their geekdom. You can't go wrong with this one. Read it.

What an enjoyable read this was for me. The story line was really good and I had a hard time putting the book down.

It starts off with the heroine, Kate, being mad. She’s mad because she’s being bullied into selling her building that she works and lives in. All of the other business around her have already sold, and she’s the last one holding out.

Will, the hero of this story, owns the company that is buying all the buildings. He has major plans in the works and there are many of people who will benefit from what he wants to do.

From the moment they laid eyes on each other, there was a huge attraction. Will is a millionaire, well dressed, well-built and sexy as hell. Kate is a geek who wears jeans and old tee-shirts; she likes to fix computers and creates computer games. These two were complete opposites and Kate thought of Will as the enemy.

As the story moves along, Will tries to use his charm to persuade Kate to sell her building, and if necessary, he plans to seduce her. What he was not expecting was to fall hard for Kate. She is like no other woman, and it’s not long until they start to have deeper feelings for each other. Will wanted Kate to the point that he was aching with it, but he was patient and waited until he felt Kate was ready. When they finally hit the sheets, it was a very passionate coupling. I have to say that I wished there would have been more love scenes, but the one we did get fit into the story perfectly.

There was also a villain in this story. When Will finally figures out that this man was up to no good, he devises a plan to catch him. This is where a BIG misunderstanding happens between Will and Kate. I hated this part of the story, because Kate was so upset and that made me upset too. Poor Will, now he has to explain what Kate overheard and he knows she will not want to give him the time of day. Fear not, because Will finds the perfect way to get her to listen to him.

In the end, everything is worked out and YAY, there was an epilogue!

This is not my first read by Emma Shortt, and when I saw this book was offered for review, I jumped on it. This book was very different from her other books, but I thoroughly enjoy it and will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

I’ll admit I love a sexy alpha hero; there’s something about all those three types rolled into to one man that drives me a little bit crazy but more than that I love, love when the heroine in a book is a sexy geek. Mostly because it’s unexpected and largely because geeky women don’t usually see themselves as sexy which makes them even more attractive. In The Seduction Game computer expert Kate Kelly is the lone holdout that is keeping millionaire Will Thornton’s development project from going forward. Having only dealt with his bullying assistant, Kate doesn’t expect the instant attraction she feels when Will walks into her shop for the first time and Will is equally affected. While that might sound like a good thing, their mutual attraction has them both scrambling to try and figure out how to proceed on all fronts. This was an entertaining, smart, and sexy story with characters you can’t help but adore and a plot that keeps you guessing from beginning to end.

There is so much about Kate that made her such a likeable heroine; she’s super smart, she doesn’t take crap from anyone, she stands by what she believes in, and she doesn’t change who she is to please anyone. She’s also a wee bit stubborn and somewhat socially awkward which kind of adds to her charm. I kind of wanted to hate Will but I couldn’t, as soon as he meets Kate it’s obvious he’s taken with her but is unsure how to handle her. I like that she challenges him and that he realizes he needs to help her understand what he’s trying to do with the area in which her shop sits. He doesn’t bully unlike his brother in law assistant and he really tries to see the situation from her perspective. All of that made me respect him for the businessman and awesome brother and son that he is.

From the minute these two meet there’s just this electrical current in the air. It was interesting to see Will, a very confident man, be thrown by this geeky heroine. However, Kate is not unaffected and she tends to blush and stammer around Will which he finds enthralling. Will does woo Kate trying to make her understand about his development but he also gives her time to think about what he’s wanting and he also wants to spend time with her without talking about business. This really made me appreciate him all the more.

It was easy to accept these two falling into a relationship and figuring out that there was something more between them than attraction. Yes, Will makes a big error in judgment but he also makes a very grand gesture to make it right.

I can’t say enough good things about The Seduction Game; the writing was superb, the characters were fun and completely loveable, and the plot had enough depth to keep me thoroughly engrossed. This is my first book my author Emma Shortt and I can’t wait to see what she puts out next.

My girl Emma doesn't disappoint!!! Loved it. Full review to come!

Reviewed on my blog All The Bookish Love

Emma Shortt sure knows how to entertain a lady! She never fails to disappoint me and I was yet again pleased and giddy to read one of her books. This girl can write. From erotic romances like her fantastically orgasmic Club Smex, to some very hot negotiations with a trio of billionaire’s in her Criminal Seduction trilogy and whacking zombies with a machete in nothing but purple panties in Waking Up Dead, Emma Shortt’s writing transports me from the bore of everyday life into worlds filled with whirlwinds of passion, sex and romance, with a brilliant storyline to boot.
In The Seduction Game, all of us get to embrace our inner (and not so inner) geek, and for those of you who have your geeky-self hidden somewhere in the depths of your souls, you can now scoop it out and let it roam free, because it is about to get seduced until your toes curl. The slow build-up to the sweet romance that is inevitable was laced with geek-isms and it made for quite a different read.
Kate Kelly is a brilliantly written character. She’s geeky and quirky, the kind of girl you can definitely expect to meet in the world out there these days. She’s a gamer and a computer geek (even owning her own computer repair/supping up store) who’s pretty awkward around people and even more awkward around sex and penises. I loved the way I could actually see her grow and change in a subtle way. She may be geeky and quirky but she stands her ground strongly and can throw quite a figurative punch to your heart at moments.
Then we get the hero. I really thought he was quite a jerk in the first two chapters, but he turns out to be everything a girl could want and more. The exact opposite of Kate, he’s the millionaire who really wants Kate’s building for his new project. Reading the blurb of the book, it describes him as a millionaire bad boy, when he is in fact not a bad boy at all. Will is the nicest guy I’ve read about in a romance novel and I was so happy he didn’t end up changing his ways and giving up a part of himself to please the girl. And boy, he could come please me anytime. He did, however, manage to grow a bit of a geeky part to himself and I felt tears prickling my eyes while I was bubbling with laughter at the big grand gesture he does for Kate. Yep, Will is the perfect gentleman.
I admit I did not get the Dr, Who reference, because I have never watched the series, but it seemed like a pretty important part of the book so I googled it. I still don’t fully understand and might just end up watching the series. So kudos to you Emma, because I might just get addicted.
Now, I’m done talking about this book, why don’t you just go and buy it? You know you want to!

Ebb and flow ladies and gentlemen... Ebb. And. Flow. I realize it takes a talented author and her team of publishers and what all to make sure a book has solid characters, a strong plot, great interconnectedness and good ebb and flow. This book just had ebb. Meaning like the tide it just went out but nothing flowed back in. While I don't want to spoil the plot I will say I am confused off my ass how virginal in 21st century romance writing translates to painful shyness, self-doubt, life-curious, doubtful and just plain awkward. All to the point that it did not seem realistic. Granted the heroine did lose her parents and has had to go through part of her life on her own but it just did not jive with how she acted in the book. One would think she were a character from the book Flowers in the Attic. Locked away and then at some point set free in to the world.

Also the plot just ebbed out. Nothing coming back at you. The first 9 or so chapters were a melange of boring and then pow! We are hit with what almost feels like a new book in that the author ratchets thing up. Then the villan was soooo. Well blah. His rationale for what he did made no sense in a book this length and the resolution was re-dick.

My last complaint is who the hell are the fan-bots who rate this shit 4 and 5 stars. Seriously. Let's be honest folks. If you read the side of your cereal box and give it a 5 star rating then chances are you should not be putting up reveiws for books because your judgement is severely compromised. This book is a one star read for me. It only got two because the author made an attempt around chapter 12 to do something with the plot and characters. She was not successful but she gets the second star for trying.

Romances with millionaires are cliched but after a recommendation, I thought I’d give this novel a chance, especially since it also features a bespectacled geek girl :O)

And actually I was pleasantly surprised. Both main characters, as indeed most of the secondary ones (the best friend and the sister), were well portrayed. That and lots of scifi references was always going to make me happy. Will turns out to be a responsible person who cares about his family and the people he employs, and Kate is just irresistible. It wasn’t perfect, especially a scene towards the end, but it entertained me, and I wouldn’t mind finding out what happens to said best friend and sister.

Simple, but not devoid of charm, romance.

Beauty is the Geek

Talk about a big case of opposites attracting. A millionaire with a successful property development business and a loner geek with a computer upgrading business squaring off over the sale of her property. He's slick, handsome and a bit under-developed as a character and she's a strange mix of stiff spined and gutless. Not gonna lie... I had a very difficult time liking these characters. When Will wasn't thinking about how tiny Kate is, she's thinking about how she's not going to sell... not because she grew up in the building—she didn't—or because she can't relocate her business—she could—but because of reasons.

THE SEDUCTION GAME was one of those stories where I liked it in theory but wound up not digging it in actuality. It shows both my age and my true geek card that the basic jist of plot reminded me of the 80's flick, Batteries Not Included, which won it a lot of points. I liked the whole idea of Kate resisting selling her building to a big developer. What didn't really work for me was the threadbare character development.

While Kate is fairly well developed as a character, the big reason she holds back on selling never feels valid, as if she's being stubborn for the sake of it. Meanwhile, Will is so under-developed beyond his business and a reference comparing him to actor Nathan Fillion, I never quite bought him as a romantic hero. I almost felt like he looked down on Kate (which might have a lot to do with constant references to how tiny she is) both socially and physically. Without a lot of back knowledge on his past, he just never seemed more than a caricature. I could get their physical attraction to a point but an emotional connection seemed contrived. Ultimately, while it wasn't an unlikable story, it just never quite had the warmth I was expecting where the geek gets the girl... or in this case, the guy.

Having read both Indulgence titles and Shortt's WAKING UP DEAD, I think my lukewarm reception of the book has more to do with the genre than anything. Contemporary category romances can be hit or miss with me as a reader and as a geek, I have high expectations of a geek romance. That said, if you are a geek you'll enjoy the pop culture references and the nice change of pace from it being the hero who is a geek. Two thumbs up for representation! Not a geek? If you like CEO millionaire types you might enjoy TSG a lot.

The Seduction Game was a quick, quirky and sweet story. I really enjoyed that the heroine got to be the"geek" in this story, so many of the "geek romances" lately have super hot men as the geeks and Emma Shortt turned this on its head. I loved seeing the how Kate was awkward and shy and was reluctantly pulled out of her shell by the billionaire Will Thornton.

The story started off slow for and it took awhile for me to find my rhythm with the pacing, then when Will and Kate finally stopped bickering with one another and started seeing each other it was an enjoyable read. The ending (though very cute) came on fast and I felt rushed reading it, I wanted more chapters to see how everything smooths out. This is a novella length story, but I would have liked to see this fleshed out into more a full length novel so we can really get to know Kate and Will, not just surface stuff.

Emma Shortt's writing was fun to read and I like the witty banter and snarky dialogue. The geeky references made me snicker and made my own geeky heart smile, but my issues with some of the plot lines and the pacing kept me from really connecting.

If you are the mood for a cute, slightly predictable, romance about a die hard geek falling for a billionaire then The Seduction Game would be a great book to 1-click!

The Seduction Game is a sweet, fun, and kooky read! I readily enjoyed reading about Will and Kate! I admit, I started reading about Kate when I read Game of Chance about her BFF Meg. I was intrigued about Katie-as Meg calls her. Gosh I had to read her story so here we are! Very glad to get the chance to read it as it was a heartfelt story!

Kate is a computer geek-fixing them and developing game apps. She owns her own building which houses her computer company. Meg works there too. Unfortunately, her building is right in the middle of a major redevelopment of the area. The development has already started as the other buildings and tenants sold-Kate is the lone standout As if the bullying tactics from the development company aren't enough, the owner of the company comes to see Kate specifically to talk about their standoff. Once she meets Will, Kate knows she is in all sorts of trouble.

Talk about instant chemistry! Will and Kate are dripping with it! Poor Katie doesn't know how to handle it. Waffling back and forth, she just can't figure her feelings out! It's rather apparent quickly, that these two were in over their heads!

I totally enjoyed both Will and Kate Kate didn't want to sell because she considered her building home. The one thing she has had since the loss of her parents, she can't let Will take it from her can she?? And Will? Thoughtful, kind, and totally smitten with the computer geek that Kate is! He can't explain it, but she makes his motor purr!! They've got to figure this standoff out, because not having a life together is just not in the picture!

Will is a developer who latest project involves redevelopment of the area that Katie’s computer shop cum home is located. His sleazy brother in law took over as the project manager when Will has to be in London for another project and never gained Katie’s agreement to sell. He then tried to bulldoze her and continues to bully and harass her to sell. When Will returns, and learns of the one person that is holding up the project (aka Katie), he pays her a visit at her shop and sparks fly.
Initially thinking he can charm her into selling, Will finds himself the one totally smitten by the shy, yet brilliant woman.
An absolutely wonderful read! I adored Kate (Katie), who is my fav type of heroine. Super geeky – the scene where she beats an arrogant male at a computer game was epic!, and super cute but shy. She blushed every time Will looks at her *that way* and best of all – a virgin.
Not only were Katie & Will just wonderful characters and their interaction fantastic, Katie’s BFF and worker, Meg is a real character as well. All of us should have BFFs like Meg!

Highly recommended!

I am such a sucker for a billionaire romance. I don’t know why - do not ask me to explain it. I simply love it. This is definitely part of what we get in The Seduction Game by Emma Shortt. What else do we get? The geek girl of my dreams, Kate Kelly (side note: is this a throwback to You’ve Got Mail’s Kathleen Kelly? I really hope so). Since Kate is all things tech and geek, we get mentions of some of my favorite things: Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc. The mention of Ten’s Converse shoes and the Doomsday episode just about had me giggling with geek girl glee, let me tell you.

Back to the story - I loved reading the interactions between Kate and Will. The flirtatious moments instigated by Will to Kate’s hesitancy and inexperienced ways was both endearing and infuriating.

All in all, The Seduction Game was a short and fun read. I wish it was longer, but I enjoyed reading Kate and Will’s unconventional love story. It’s a great romance read for all the geeky romance lovers out there!

Ooooh yesssssssssssss, said my inner lil geek girlself. Did you see me fangirling over here? Cuz I did...totes!

Ms. Shortt tugged every heartstring I had and then some. For example, that sweetness and connection between Kate and Will got me all melty and then later I was crying as things fell apart for Kate with her shop and what she overheard at Will’s office...talk about omg!! But shhhhh that crying jag is a secret just between us girls!

Honestly though, if you want a crazy fun read that melts your heart, fogs up your e-reader a titter and makes you want a whole lot of that - then ladies you need to get you some of this...The Seduction Game!! A definite must-read!

This was just okay. The writing flowed okay, but I wasn't a fan of Will from the start. He came across as an arrogant jerk, and although I get why he's trying to build his complex, it didn't give him a reason to act the way he did. Kate is referred to as a geek pretty much the whole book, like it made her a freak or something. Their romance is very much a slow burn. There isn't a lot of steam to this story. I'm not really a fan of these two as a couple, but that's just my opinion. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to read her again.

Okay, I need to say this first, and foremost, Will Thornton is NOT a bad boy! I don't know why the moniker was given to him at all throughout this book. Okay, I get that his sister calls in a bad boy, but it's more sibling ribbing than anything else.

Okay, so now that I got that out of the way, The Seduction Game is the story of two people, polar opposites if you will, who come together because of warring circumstances, and fall in love. It's one of the oldest romance tropes, enemies to lovers, and I fall for it every time. It's fun, amusing and always passionate. The Seduction Game doesn't disappoint at all.

I really felt like I was Kate Kelly in a past life. Hell, I could be her in this life too, minus a few things that I'm not going into, because, well, spoilers. She's super smart, and loves everything geek. She loves computers, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and RPG's. She's cosplays and goes to conventions. Did I mention already this was a reference to My Little Pony? I was hooked right there. I really pictured her as a blond Felicia Day, and that makes this book all the better. In my opinion, at least.

Kate's computer shop is smack dab in the middle of a development that Will's trying to buy, but she's not willing to sell. When he comes to talk to her in person about selling, the two have an instant connection neither can seem to shake. It's hot, passionate, and all around perfect.

The book had a very British feel to it. I know it takes place in the US, but the author is English so it makes sense. Just some of the terms and names used, it just screamed Britain to me. I only have one complaint about The Seduction Game, the word geek. Yes, I'm a geek and I wholeheartedly admit to it. There's nothing wrong with it and if it's used to put someone down, well that's just wrong. So why am I complaining? It just seemed like Will used it condescendingly, all the time. Yes, he would say how he like geeky Kate, and called her his geek, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. It was like it was the only way that he saw her, not as a person or woman, but a geek. And that just made her seem like less of a person.

I’m nerding out after this book as I’m excited over this book because of two things .This book appeals to my inner geek and the heroine is a geek and a serious fangirl. Thrown in the hero who is a sexy alpha male that is willing to admit when he is wrong and you got a magical book here.

Kate Kelly is the lone standout in a development project that Will Thornton’s company is building and she stopping from it going ahead. The memories in this place are her only connection to her family and something that she holds dear too and the bullying isn’t helping the stance she taken up . I admire Kate here as she is a strong woman in this aspect she could of faltered and let it go ages ago but she standing up for her principles, actions and the fact that it is not only affecting her. She a stubborn geek that won’t let her business be driven to the ground.

Will who behind schedule and wants get this project fully steaming ahead and decides to go and personally meet her at her shop. As he doesn’t like being held up after being told that everything was full steam ahead . So when these two meet, you can see that he attracted to the deluded stubborn geek who is all worked up. Uh oh and doesn’t seem one sided as Kate is also attracted to him and see him as a total bad alpha mate and doesn’t agree about his judgement about her .

So let the Seduction Games begin….

The games may have been a way to try and get what they want but you can see that the chemistry between them is overwhelming and slowly begins to rise the point that it threatens to over flow. The books is perfectly paced because it follows that and the author made to convince us by introducing secondary plots that tie in well with the main arc.

5 couples who doesn’t want a heroine who a geek and a hero that is all alpha male.

Kate is a computer whiz with her own store. But that store is at risk from the millionaire Will Thornton. He wants to knock the store down because it sits in the middle of his new development. Kate is determined to play the waiting game and hope he just goes away. Will has other plans. He thinks Kate is cute (in her own nerdy sort of way) and plans on flirting his way into getting her to sell.

What follows is one of the more humorous and exciting romances I've read without actually becoming a comedy or suspense. Kate was hilarious. She's was perfectly awkward and totally unfraid to own her inner an outer nerd (there is a convention involved). Will seems to be the perfect handsome rich boy, but deep down there's more to him. As Will and Kate get to know each other both of their plans begin to crumble.
But there's a third party involved that's willing to do a little more across the line type of stuff to try and get her to sell her store and it may just tear Will and Kate apart as well. I loved this book. I loved the side characters. I loved the setting. I loved the story. I don't think I would have changed anything and I've always had a soft spot for the nerd finding their perfect match.

This started out slow--I wasn't too sure about it for the first quarter or so. Kate and Meg had a tendency to talk like they were still in college quite a bit in the beginning, which seemed off considering Kate was supposed to be a fairly successful business owner--"geek" doesn't necessarily translate into can't stop slipping into text speak in regular conversation. Thankfully that didn't last long, though, and soon I was swept into the story.

Things I liked about this story:

- Kate and Meg's relationship--very cute and real, and reminded me of some of my relationships with my friends

- Will Thornton. He came off as a bit business-obsessed in the beginning, but his obvious love for his family (and theirs in return) and his attraction to Kate soon set his priorities straight. Great down-to-earth (even though he's a bazillionaire) hero.

- All the sci-fi references. Even though I'm not a hardcore geek (I have yet to watch any incarnation of the Doctor. I know, I know--I will!) The Firefly and Serenity ones were fun. Plus, any book where they go to a convention is a win, IMO.

- Will's "grand gesture"--perfect!

All in all, this ended up being an enjoyable way to pass the time. I'll definitely be looking for more from Emma Shortt in the future.

Rating: 4 stars / B- rating

I received this book as an e-ARC free from Netgalley. Below is my review.

Will and Kate (and I just put that together!) is one of the rare but growing trends of geek girls in traditional romance. I like the trend a lot (being a geek myself). Major kudos to the author for that.

OK - mini geek girl rant:

Will was a bit stereotypical too, but I totally bought how confused he was over Kate's geekiness. He also had some of that must save everyone" thing going, especially with family members.

This was a really good book, with my minor cavils over Kate's geek girl cred. Want a geek fix with your romance? Pick this one up."

Will really wants Kate's building. Kate doesn't want to give it to him. Creepy brother in law working for Will tries to intimidate her into selling and goes a bit psycho in the process. Thinking that Will had put him up to it, Kate thinks of Will as the "enemy" so that by the time they actually do meet face to face she is completely hostile to him.

Now Will isn't an innocent in this as once he does meet her he plans to seduce her into selling the building. Boo! Hiss! Ok put the torches and pitchforks away...he totally redeems himself by putting on a pair of elvin ears and attending a geek convention with her. Even more so with his inner dialog as she kicks butt putting a guy in his place playing a video game. Come on...what's hotter that a guy who digs a gamer girl?

I have to admit that I am totally girl crushing on the BFF Meg. She's super supportive of Kate yet challenges her to climb on out of that box she's been hiding in...especially when it means buying a dress and falling in love. She is also funny and witty and most importantly wears Wonder Woman underwear.

I give The Seduction Game 4 hearts!

3.5 - 4 stars

I was drawn to The Seduction Game because of the author. I read Emma Shortt’s Waking Up Dead and loved it. Zombies, running for your life, and falling in love – what a combo! It usually always works for me. Then I saw that she wrote a contemporary romance, and I thought – what the heck! I will read it as I wait for the next book in her zombie series!

I enjoyed The Seduction Game mostly because protagonist Kate is a certified nerd. She’s a sci-fi fan, dabbles in game design, and soups up computers for a living. When the businesses surrounding her computer repair shop start selling out to a real estate developer, she thinks her life is ruined. Certainly her business has been financially dinged by the dearth of activity around her place, so she blames Will Thornton for her current anxiety. She refuses to sell, and is harassed by Will’s right hand man, sleazebag Chris. He keeps threatening her, making her even more determined to never sell her building to them.
