Playing With My Heart is a gripping romance set in Shakespearean England. Patience is the stepdaughter of a carpenter at The Globe theatre. Her stepfather's apprentice, Kit, is besotted with her, but Patience only has eyes for Jeremy de la Motte, a roguish and exciting boy actor. When will Patience see that Jeremy is not the boy for her? Will the kind-hearted Kit finally get the girl?
Patience is a carpenter's daughter and when he takes on a new apprentice her head is turned. She falls for Kit and he seems to like her too. But when her father gets a new job at the Globe theatre Patience meets the players, amongst them the smooth, suave Jeremy De La Motte, her feelings for Kit flees in the face of Jeremy's charm and good looks. But Kit is left heartbroken she has fallen for another, especially as he alone can see the true nature of the sneaky Jeremy. Will Patience see she has chosen the wrong man or will she get her heart shattered? This was a really interesting premise for a love story set amid the seedy aspects of the theatre world and the streets of Shakespeare's day.
I picked this book up on my first trip to 66 books, and I really enjoyed reading it! It was a short book, but it was a detailed, smooth paced story of a girl torn between 2 boys. One who treasured every moment and one who was throwing down red flags everywhere! The thing I loved the most about this was how real it felt. You could really feel how difficult the choices were.
This book has really inspired me to try new authors the next time I'm book shopping. I tend to stick to the authors I've heard about or ones I know.
So if you have an author that you love who you feel needs more recognition, let me know!
