Not Another Rockstar

Rate this book
After her rockstar fiancé's tragic accident, Phoebe Fletcher is hit with false accusations and relentless media spotlight once the video of the car crash is released. Thrust into the spotlight, the budding artist becomes the focus of obsessive fans, putting both her life and aspirations in jeopardy.

To ensure her safety, Phoebe seeks refuge with her ex's band, the Brothers of Anarchy, where she forms a bond with the brooding drummer, Axel Adler. Despite the forbidden nature of their growing attraction, Axel's unwavering care and encouragement sparks a fiery connection between them.

In the midst of fame, betrayal, and illicit love, Phoebe and Axel must navigate a web of lies and treachery, or risk losing all they hold dear.

Lots of ‘f*ck it’ moments, banter and a sprinkle of spice. There’s also a good dash of murder, mystery and stalking.

Not Another Rockstar written by Kate Callaghan gave me full body chills. This book was bone chilling creepy at times I often found myself biting my nails (WHICH I NEVER DO). I had a great time with this book, but I did have to knock a star off because it often got repetitive. When I saw this book in my email from the author, when I saw the tropes, I was literally jumping up and down with so much glee because I absolutely love that cover and I was in my musical era at the time. I read a few books by this author before and haven't had the best luck, but in my opinion, Kate, this is your best book yet. Not Another Rockstar definitely does deal with some very heavy topics which can be triggering to some readers, so be sure to check the trigger warning's that will be listed in my review. This book definitely had light hearted moments woven in, but it was so sad I often found myself holding back tears, which didn't really work that well. I can't recommend this book enough, if you love musical romances, the dead lover trope, and suspense paranormal romances, then look no further that Not Another Rockstar. This book was so addicting, with every turned page there was so much action, I found myself gasping for air because it felt like there was a big ass boulder sitting on my chest when all the truths were coming out. I kept telling myself just a few more pages, but honestly, I couldn't put this book down. I know this book won't be for everyone, but please do yourself a favor and add Not Another Rockstar to your TBR pile right now.

THANK YOU TO KATE CALLAGHAN FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!!

Phoebe Fletcher is a twenty-six year old artist with cropped lilac hair. Y'all, I was just picturing this woman while reading this book and she's freaking gorgeous. Phoebe has a fianceé, Cillian Hunt who is the lead singer of the band, Brothers of Anarchy which is made up of Phoebe's brother, Nick Fletcher who is the guitarist, August who is another guitarist, and Axel Adler who is the drummer. One night, after a Brothers of Anarchy concert, Phoebe caught Cillian having sex with the band's make up artist, Helen Lycett. Later the truth comes out that Cillian was having a six month affair with the band's make up artist. Cillian is a twenty-six year old cheating prick, but the media disguises him as a charming rockstar. The morning after the concert and Phoebe caught Cillian cheating, they decide to go for a drive to talk things out, but the night before, Cillian was drinking heavily. Cillian decides to drunk drive and drive erratically, and speeding through red lights causing a head on collision with another vehicle. Cillian passed away from the impact and Phoebe was unconscious in the ICU with a severe concussion, severe lacerations to her right hand, and then needed surgery. Phoebe was blamed for the accident after surviving, when social media decides to run with picture and headlines claiming Phoebe was the driver. After the accident, the members of Brothers of Anarchy decide to take Phoebe under their wings.

Axel Adler is the drummer in the Brothers of Anarchy band. Axel has so many tattoos- ugh so hot. Axel has the biggest heart beneath his hard shell. After the accident, Axel is Phoebe's personal bodyguard, they decided to take a little trip to Italy together, Axel went with Phoebe to get her first ever tattoo, how damn precious. The band mates of Brothers of Anarchy become Phoebe's found family as they are trying to protect her from the onslaught that is social media. Axel is allergic to smiling, doing interviews, and social media. Axel's love language is feeding people and being a phenomenal cook. Axel had a tough childhood, he absolutely loved art and music, but dropped out of school at the age of seventeen to perform at bars to get his music career up and running. Axel also has Alopecia- he has a tattoo of a spider crawling up his neck to his head, so he can keep his head shaved because he was bullied growing up. I absolutely adored Phoebe and Axel together, they were just the cutest. I loved how Axel carried himself, he was so self assured and determined to protect Phoebe at all costs. Axel's nickname for Phoebe was Bee, that's just the cutest thing ever. I loved all of the interactions between every single character, despite their grief and anger, they took care of one another and that was just so sweet to witness. Grief can be so hard to navigate, but when you find your found family, they can often make living a little easier every day. The band mates, Axel, and Phoebe need to be protected at all costs.

3 stars! 💫 This book was... alright. I mean, I’ll probably forget about it in a week 🤷‍♀️. Big thanks to Kate Callaghan, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for the ARC! 💙

Okay, let me break it down for you: Phoebe and Axel had potential—I mean, who doesn’t love a little romantic suspense? But, honestly? I wasn’t completely hooked. At first, I was intrigued by the whole suspense vibe, but then the plot kinda dragged. The romance had its moments, for sure—Axel was swoon-worthy, Phoebe was a badass—but it felt like there was WAY too much buildup and not enough oomph when it finally came together.

Let’s talk about the beginning. It was SLOW... like, I almost DNF'd it. 😬 But then the romance picked up, and I started getting a little more invested. The whole "ex's best friend" and "dead lover" tropes? Honestly, they were a bit much for me. The dead lover trope isn’t my fave (hello, unnecessary drama), but okay, it kinda worked here. The twist? Meh. I saw it coming from a mile away. Could’ve been way more mind-blowing.

And girl, let’s talk about Phoebe hiding the fact she was the songwriter... for like, no reason? 🙄 I get the whole "martyr" thing, but it just got frustrating after a while. Also, everything got dragged out a bit too much—like, please, just give me the drama already!

Axel and Phoebe definitely had chemistry, no doubt, but some of the suspense was way too predictable. It wasn’t a bad read by any means—it kept me turning pages because I was curious to see how it ended. Would I recommend it? Eh... it’s okay, but I’ve definitely read better.

Phoebe planned to surprise her fiancé, but he was the one who had a shocking surprise for her. Hoping to reconcile with her, he gets into a car accident and dies, and in the eyes of the press, she becomes the main culprit.

The book made me reflect on whether the saying “Speak only good of the dead or say nothing at all” is truly fair—especially when it comes to justifying the deceased at the expense of blaming the survivor.

It also explores how difficult it is to love someone who has hurt a person dear to you.

I enjoyed the book, but in my subjective opinion, there was a bit too much drama 😅.

Phoebe discovers that her rockstar fiancé is cheating on her, and soon after, they get into a car crash—only Phoebe survives. The media and the band’s fans blame her for the tragedy. She starts receiving threats, so for her safety, she moves in with the other band members. Before long, she grows closer to Axel.

I enjoyed the romantic storyline. It turns out Axel had been in love with Phoebe for years but never confessed his feelings. He’s incredibly kind and caring, and his past truly moved me. However, I felt that the characters got close too quickly after Cillian’s death.

As for the suspense, it didn’t impress me. It was predictable and, at times, boring. The final chapters felt overly dramatic to me.

Incredibly cliche but I liked the chemistry between the main characters.

the third act was sooo… 🌚 like it just didn’t give what was needed. Very unnecessary in my opinion and it was rlly predictable.

The writing could’ve been a lot better in the sense that there was no fluency in the dialogue and the inner monologues needed to be shorter.

The best thing was almost all the characters showed complexity and they frustrated me to no end lmao. I wanted to literally throttle Cillian thru my phone.

It was easy to read even tho I cringed quite a bit with some of the lines.

this book. i’m laughing, i’m crying, i’m feeling alllll the feels. i was a bit skeptical going into because of the tropes (OMG). the whole situation that phoebe somehow gets herself into is a complicated but i’ll do my best to explain in a nutshell:

1. she catches her boyfriend (cillian, who is a band member) cheating on her.
2. she finds out he’s been cheating for a while and the whole band (including her brother) knew.
3. she ends up in a car crash with drunk cillian; cillian dies in the car crash.

^ and this is basically where the book starts up. we follow phoebe as she deals with the consequences of cillain’s death, which does prove to be quite entertaining. as promised, this is a brothers best friend romance, as well as a dead ex’s best friend romance, which is even moreeee entertaining. honestly though, i get that phoebe and her brother had promised to stay out of each others love lives, but the whole cheating situation is a bit to far for me. it borders keeping promises to just being a shitty brother in general. i would also like to state that i am an only child, so i’m not sure if i’m the best opinion for this.

✧₊⁺ the romance ~ i for sure loved the stolen kisses/forbidden romance vibe that was happening throughout the book. combining that with the mystery aspect of the murder made this veryvery fun. it almost made me want to evilly cackle, it was amazing. HOWEVER. there’s always a but. the MMC is bald. now, i don’t have anything against bald guys (or maybe i do at this point (no offense to all the bald men out there)), i couldn’t imagine him as anything other than a roblox NPC mixed with gru from minions.
yep, he’s definitely a special one.

PLUS- he has a tattoo of a spider crawling up his bald head. like, a big one. and i don’t have anything against spiders either, i actually like them a lot, but he be going round scaring children with his gru/npc spider head. like, no. god, please no.

well, well, well, we’re at this point in my review again. where i complain about how predictable it is, and other shit. this book actually managed to be semi-okay predictability wise. i didn’t figure out who the stalker was until about 2/3 of the way through the book, which is pretty good. honestly though, i need a book for august. he just has this chill like azriel (from acotor) vibe almost.

ARC provided by the author!💙

🥁 drummer x artist
🥁 chronic pain rep
🥁 ex's best friend
🥁 brother's best friend
🥁 he falls first
🥁 third pov
🥁 dead lover

This book was a rollercoaster. I was mad, I was sad, I was angry, I was emotional, I was so freaking FRUSTRATED. And I have to give it out the author for making me FEEL so much. Although I hate third pov in ROMANCE books, this was an exception. Something about this book made it hard to put down.

The plot was a little fishy from the beginning and I already predicted some of the outcomes. While I did enjoy this book very much, some things were unnecessarily dragged out. Like why would Phoebe hide the fact that she was the songwriter for NO REASON? Why would she let Anita use her as a punching bag for the press? I get that Phoebe did all that from the good of her heart but her being a martyr at all times just grated on my nerves. Also *ehem* the twist in the end wasn't as minblowing as I wanted it to be but it was something....

I, like most other ppl out there, DO NOT enjoy the dead lover trope but it was a surprise for me in this book since I didn't know what I was getting into. It was definitely a good read though, because for some reason I couldn't put it down!

I devoured this book in hours it was that good! Callaghan is a fabulous writer who keeps you wanting more.

This is one of those books where I felt like I fell through my kindle and landed in the story. I honestly felt like I’d only been reading for an hour and would be 15% through the novel. Nope, I was sitting here for close to three hours and was just shy of halfway through.

The storyline wasn’t just a romance, but there was a hint of mystery as we tried to figure out who is threatening Phoebe. I really liked this aspect because it showed how much Axel and Phoebe really loved each other as they conquered trial after trial. I was so scared for these two! And I never saw the culprit coming.

I loved the majority of the characters. Of course Phoebe was amazing with her independent woman attitude but also willing to give in and let others provide her with safety when things got too sketchy. Guys, the scene with Phoebe, the jeep, paint can, and a crowbar? Perfection. I loved every minute of the angry woman antics. Girl, you show them they set off the wrong woman!

Axel was adorable. I liked him from the start. It helped that we got his POV so we knew what he was thinking. I loved that even though he loved Phoebe he wanted her to be happy and let her relationship with Cillian play out (he is the dead fiancé from the synopsis). And when he dies, he’s simply there as a friend and protector for Phoebe. Their love blossomed naturally and I believed it.

I also liked Phoebe’s agent Lena. Her attitude was great. August was a good supporting character and I want to know more about him. The surprise appearance from two other beloved characters from Callaghan was amazing to have! I squealed like a little girl when they appeared.

The characters I obviously disliked were Cillian, Helen, and Nick. I won’t spoil why I don’t like the first two. I know Helen kind of redeemed herself, but when Phoebe punched her in the face I did shout a “you go girl!” in victory. I disliked Nick because I thought he was a crappy brother. He kept a lot of things from Phoebe because he didn’t want to get involved, but I feel like a good brother shouldn’t do that.

I honestly loved this story so much I’m sad I’ll have to wait months for the next Callaghan masterpiece. If you guys are looking for a romance with some fun character and a plot that will have you gasping, crying, laughing, shouting in victory and anger, this is the book for you. It has everything and more a romance reader could want. Plus? They’re a rock band? Can you get better than that?

*An ARC was received from the author in exchange for an honest review. I’m completely blunt in my reviews, and a free copy does not sway my opinions. They are all my own…and I loved this book.

I love this book.
I love the suspense-packed atmosphere of this story and the great writing style.
Kate Callaghan is not only an amazing fantasy author but also a phenomenal author of dramatic, emotional romances.

This book started with a boom and didn't stop with the suspense and gripping story until the last page.

An emotional, suspense-packed and exciting story about the lives and problems of the rock star band members and their loved ones.

I love rock star romances, but I haven't read one in a long time.
This story is not just a romance, it's a thriller-romance with shocking turns and twists 😳
I loved every second of this exciting book.

It's really difficult to write a review without spoilers, and for a great story like this one, even more complicated.
I would rather talk to you about the book and the wonderful story. It is an exciting book and a must-read for all rock star romance lovers ❤️.

I am hoping for a book about the other band members in the future 😉

Phoebe is an up and coming artist 👩🏻‍🎨
Her boyfriend, Cillian, and her brother are in a band together 🎸

After a tragic car accident, Phoebe must pick up the pieces of her life. While recovering from her injuries and trying to stay out of the spot light and crosshairs of obsessive fans, Phoebe ends up staying with her brother and the remaining members of the band.

While the drama ensues, Phoebe and band member Axel explore their feelings for one another. 💥

This was a bit different from the Kate Callaghan books that I’ve previously read. There was still romance and banter but this one includes mystery and suspense! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and finding out what would happen in the end.

Thank you to author Kate Callaghan for the opportunity to read your book! I received an epub and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I adored both mcs. They were absolutely delightful to read yet... I didn't like the end.
The who did it part... I had my suspect very early on, and I was right. I just wish their motivations were better(?) Because I found it silly.
Still, this is probably my favorite Kate Callaghan book so far.

I’m not gonna lie: what I expected from reading the synopsis and what I actually read were DRASTICALLY different. Probs just a me thing, but I read the synopsis thinking this was going to be a story about a young artist trying to get her life back on track after her beloved fiancé died in a tragic accident and in her grieving, she bonds with one of his band mates due to shared trauma. What I did NOT expect was the toxicity that was Cillian embracing the stereotypical rockstar image of being distant and inattentive toward his fiancée whom he’s been with for over a decade, Phoebe discovering he’s cheating and the band all knowing, and then the accident involving both of them because Cillian is spiraling from losing her that he risks both of their lives to prove a point and fatally crashes the car they’re both in. Of course, reading further, I know there’s a bit more to it than that but OOF definitely different than what I’d expected.

The upside to this story: Axel had feelings for Phoebe for a long while but had given her space out of respect for the long term relationship she’d been in. But when she needed him, he definitely stepped up to be her knight in drummer gear. He was the definition of “he fell first” and seeing him stick by Phoebe’s side and be her protector on top of being a big emotional support for her was rather sweet. The distance and circumstances surrounding her final moments with Phoebe’s fiancé also helped in allowing leeway for her and Axel’s relationship to move forward so I guess that was a bright side to the chaos.

Grief, betrayal, secrets coming to light, a budding new romance, obsessive (and sometimes dangerous) fans, and moving forward. This book was filled with everything you might think a rockstar romance to be.

My brain thinking this story was going to be one thing and then having it flip into something totally different from what I’d expected definitely put a wrench in my reading experience. Totally on me though. For all I know, it could actually be a really really good story; my brain just couldn’t get past my initial misunderstanding and dulled my ability to connect with what I was reading. If you like rockstar romances, I’d say check this out to see if it’s your cup of tea.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for a chance to read an early copy of this romance. All thoughts are my own.

✨PS: I do want to note that while this is set in the same universe as Ms. Perfectly Fine—which I found out while reading—it is not a requirement to read that book first before diving in. I mean, I certainly didn’t have a chance to read that book or even know of its tie before reading. Just spidey senses when a small cameo popped up that sounded interesting enough that I was sure it had its own storyline. This one is a complete story all on its own; tis just a bonus knowing there’s more happening in the same world.

Thank you Kate Callaghan for my review copy. These are my thoughts:

Phoebe thought she was headed towards 'happy ever after'. But after truths surface; her rockstar fiancé dies in a car crash that leaves her injured and her career as an artist hanging by a thread, she becomes a target of someone who wishes to end her.

This was dramatic and suspenseful. I didn't want to put it down! There were so many secrets being kept and you really felt like you couldn't trust anyone. I guessed the culprit but only just before they were revealed (so at around 90%!). Until then, I had two suspects, though at one point, any one was game - sorry August! It was fun trying to piece together the bits of evidence to try and guess who was behind all the horrible things that kept happening to Phoebe.

I very much enjoyed the connection and bond between Phoebe and the band members - Nick was her brother and August was like one, and Axel - well, he was a darling! The 'bad boy rocker' was so smitten with Phoebe! He was caring and protective. They all look out for each.

Phoebe and Axel had great chemistry - they were hot but also calm and endearing.

If you like romantic suspense and tattooed drummers and an endearing found family, then give this book a go!

Phoebe appears to have the perfect life—a rising art career and a famous rockstar fiancé. But everything changes when she tries to surprise him with a visit, only to be met with a shocking twist. Before she can even process the situation, tragedy strikes as he dies in a car accident, leaving Phoebe badly injured and possibly unable to paint again. Amid the chaos, Axel, the band's drummer, steps in to protect and care for her, and soon, they both realize their bond may be deeper than just friendship.

Overall, this book was an enjoyable read, though I found some parts to be fairly predictable. I was hoping for more mystery in the plot outside of the romance because, let’s be honest, Phoebe and Axel were always going to end up together. The romance itself felt a bit rushed at times compared to similar novels, but it didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment. It’s a quick read that will satisfy any romance fan.

A special thank you to NetGalley and author Kate Callaghan for the advanced reader copy in exchange for honest feedback.

I liked that the book was linked to the first book I read by Kate: Ms Perfectly Fine. I really like the genre where there is a little murder mystery along with the romance.

Alex really has the grumpy protector personality. I felt so sad that he was conflicted over dating Phoebe.

I'm sorry, but Phoebe is such a badass. After she experiences the first act of hate, she just goes after them instead of cowering and not doing anything about it.

Thank you Kate Callaghan for the e-ARC. All thoughts are my own.

I liked the premise of this novel. I think the execution was a bit awkward and I didn’t really see the chemistry building between Phoebe and Axel and then suddenly they were sleeping together. The relationships between the characters were also a bit strange, and without a lot of backstory, some of the characters actions didn’t make a lot of sense. The conclusion of the mystery was a bit of a letdown, it wasn’t a huge surprise when the villain was revealed. But it was an easy read and the story flowed well. Wow Kate has done it again! Every book of hers I read i’m hooked instantly and have to finish it!

I loved this story, I loved the layers to it (okay shrek 🤣)

Definitely a romantic thriller , I was on the edge of my seat the whole book - metaphorically of course, realistically I couldn’t move because the cats were on me.

As always I never want to give too much away but the romance and spice was just the right balance and I loved the characters so much!

Honestly just read it.

Wow, what a ride this book was. I can't stop smiling.

Axel and Phoebe are so incredibly sexy together. I love them as a book couple.
I love the whole friends to lovers storyline, and Axel was the greatest guy friend turned lover. He's so sweet, and that's not what I expect when I think of rock band drummer.

Nick, August, Isaiah, and Lena.. I love them all.

Phoebe's story evoked a few different emotions for me while reading. That says something about Kate's writing. I love an author who can keep me engaged and guessing or who can make me FEEL something when reading. Kate Callaghan did just that.

I enjoyed the suspense and the twists, too. (I had a hunch of whom the stalker was, but I was thrown off just enough to 2nd guess myself.)

I highly recommend this book to fans of sexy rockstars, beautiful badass artists, suspense, twists, and romance. Not Another Rockstar has it all!

I am so excited to read what comes next from Kate.

For me this was more of a mystery with a light romance on the side. It started off pretty serious with Phoebe’s finance’s death and then turns to figuring out who is out to get Phoebe.

While she’s recovering from the accident she falls for Axel, but the romance kind of felt like an afterthought. But the mystery made up for it. I really wanted to know what was going to happen next.

I was able to figure out who did it but it was still entertaining.

I’d recommend this for anyone looking for a mystery with some love on the side.

I was thoroughly engrossed in this gripping, intense novel. Not Another Rockstar is an intense combination of a love story and also a mystery. Each page dripped with emotion—anger, fear, passion, revenge, forgiveness, jealousy, and love. I couldn’t put it down, compelled to read whenever and wherever I could. Thank you to the author for providing an advance reader copy for me to read.

This was a delightful short read. I particularly enjoyed the unique twist on the classic love story. The disruption to the main characters’ relationship presented a refreshing change from the usual storyline, making it an engaging and unexpected read. The plot twist at the end was particularly surprising and left me thoroughly impressed.

This book was exactly what I needed to pull me out of my reading slump. Kate Callaghan masterfully weaves a romance packed with suspense, emotional depth, and personal growth. The story of Phoebe Fletcher, who is thrust into the limelight after a tragic accident, is gripping from the very first page. Her journey of healing, self-discovery, and love with the enigmatic drummer Axel Adler kept me hooked throughout.

The chemistry between Phoebe and Axel crackles with intensity, and the forbidden nature of their connection only adds to the tension. Callaghan doesn't shy away from exploring themes of betrayal, fame, and the weight of public scrutiny, making the stakes feel high and the characters' struggles deeply relatable.

I had a hard time putting this book down and am already hoping for more. I’d love to see the other band members find their own love stories in future installments. This is a must-read for fans of romance with a dash of suspense and a lot of heart.

I loved this book! I devoured it! It was full of suspense, drama, romance, and a little bit of spice. I loved how the storyline developed and had you guessing, with the twists and turns of the story had me sitting on the edge of my seat and gasping in sections as I didn’t see the scene coming, I thought I knew who the “villain” in the story was but was completely wrong and blindsided. I loved the relationship between phoebe and axel and how it developed throughout the book. This was such a great read and definitely recommend adding this to your tbr

This book was everything I needed.

Let me tell you something, I shouted as a football goal when Cillian died. Sorry not sorry will forever hate that bastard.

Phoebe and Axel love story, is unique and full of challenges. But it was also so damn sweet. The connection they both have, and how it grows it was really nice to see.

The fact that this is a double pov, is excellent. You really get a chance to really understand and see the growth of our MC.

Is you are looking for a cosy mystery romance book, this is it !!!

"She had to do it, for closure, to say goodbye to a future she would never know. A future she wouldn’t have had even if he had lived. She wasn’t sure which hurt more."

not my first rodeo with Kate Callaghan and I can't say it will be the last, I love the way she writes characters and romance stories, I always fall in love so hard with her couples. Getting to see Autumn and Elijah who are some of my favorite characters was SO EMOTIONAL AND GREAT. I appreciated the small cameos they made.

I think Axel and Phoebe are such a lovely couple and their story is so heartwarming to experience aside from the DRAMAAAA but loved the plot so much anyway. A ten out ten!

I will say Kate did something so wonderful with her characterization of Phoebe who was stuck in this awful borderline abusive relationship and was so wonderful and healing to see someone who was stuck in a situation like mine. Cillian wasn't abusive but he was controlling and manipulative to her in ways she didn't understand until later, he was a cheater and a liar and she only found out until he was gone. So many things about her relationship were a mirror to my own, especially that way Cillian thought with getting married everything would be okay. Truly great to see myself in a character like hers.
