Jinta

Nothing’s easy when you’re fated to a yakuza boss.

I’m possessed by an ancient, powerful kitsune hellbent on chaos and destruction. Until we can find a way to lift the curse, I’m a threat to everyone I hold dear. Tensions within the Namikawa-kai, hunters lurking in the shadows, and vengeful ex-boyfriends want to thwart us at every step.

All I want is to be with Raiden, my mate, the man I love. If we stand together, we can get through it all. But when I see a new, ugly side to Raiden, I can’t help but question if we really want the same things.

When the time comes to run, will Raiden leave it all behind for me?

Raiden

I’ll destroy anyone who hurts my mate—but I’m the one hurting him the most.

I’m the boss now. This is my pack. Tokyo is my city. No one will ever control me again. As I fall deeper into my new responsibilities, Jinta and I grow more estranged.

When betrayal strikes from within my own pack, Jinta is the one who pays the price. Jinta has no place in my world. He’s a pure ray of sunshine in the darkness of my life, and I can’t be the reason he gets hurt. I don’t deserve him. Never have.

I’ve got to let him go. Before the shadows of my world consume the only person I’ve ever loved.

Curses & Kitsune is the final book in A Paranormal Yakuza Duet and concludes with a hard-won Happily-Ever-After.

Curses & Kitsune - C J Ravenna - Book 2

In this sequel to ‘Secrets & Sake’, we have Jinta and Raiden recovering from a hugely traumatic and horrific event where Raiden lost his grandfather, Boss Namikawa is dead, plus many of the abducted missing people have been slaughtered, some escape.

Although they survived, both Jinta and Raiden are changed in unbelievable ways. The Kitsune that lived in and used Namikawa, now resides in Jinta when he was bitten by him. Raiden is now Boss of Namikawa-Kai and dealing with the Tadaka-kai their enemy. The Kitsune uses her power to undermine Jinta’s confidence in relation to him being enough for Raiden, raising his fears of his past rejection by his cheating ex boyfriend. Raiden has his own fears following his abandonment by his parents. He is doing his best to calm his Yakuza clan and show them he can take care of everything and restore order.

But the Kitsune is forcing Jinta into horrible behaviour and to make unbearable choices in relation to Raiden. When Jinta finds a photograph of an escaped man with the Norboru name, Raiden recognises his father. He’s very uneasy, the bad memories surface. Yet Jinta feels that the man maybe hold the solution to getting rid of the Kitsune Curse.

Following another attempt on Raiden’s Jinta implores him not to retaliate, but he cannot lose face with his Yakuza Pack members. When The Hunters go after another group of Humans, Raiden wants to go to their aid, but Ren reminds him that Jinta will be devastated if he gets hurt again. Raiden considers for a moment and decides that he cannot ‘walk off into the sunset’ with his Mate Jinta and leave his Pack.

Hoping to get rid of the Kitsune, both Raiden and Jinta fly to Osaka to seek his father who he hasn’t seen since he walked out on his mother and him when he was 6 years old. Kenta Norboru knows what needs to be done. After more harsh words to each other in the Osaka Hotel room, Jinta walks out feelings that this is where it all end between him and Raiden. He decides to visit his family following an urgent call to a meeting with his parents. Raiden leaves to meet his father. Neither of these meetings go well. Jinta returns to the hotel promising never to leave Raiden again and orders food and texts ‘sorry, I love you’ to Raiden. Already driving back he replies the same message.

What happened within minutes of the texts being sent was unbelievable. It broke me. Such horror ensues and it escalates within all the Yakusa Packs in Tokyo. This is Paranormal Fantasy, there is Heaven and Hell, the Good and the Evil, dead bodies and Spirits, and steaminess hotter than Hell in every Chapter.

I’ve never read anything like this Duet from C J Ravenna, there are Shifter Werewolves, Kitsune, there’s murder and mayhem, violence, sacrificial ceremonies, and a lot of stuff that could be Triggering to some, so look for the authors Trigger Warnings. I just jumped in blind, which I usually prefer to do, I was looking forward to reading something different from my usual fare.

That’s what I got with both of these books. I was sitting with nerves on edge, biting at my nails with every turn of the page. I was so fearful of what was going to happen to Jinta and Raiden. Stuff sure did happen. Ag one point my heart dropped like a bomb into my belly. I don’t think this level of Paranormal Fantasy would be my ‘go to’ read. However, the storyline, the characters, the writing skills and world building were amazing. For the millions of fans of the Paranormal and Fantasy world ‘Secrets and Sake’ and ‘Curses and Kitsune’ add them to your TBR and enjoy the journey round Tokyo with the Yakusa (Japanese Mafia) Packs of Shifters.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Story :4.5 stars

Audiobook :5 stars. This is my first audiobook in which I listen to Nick Cracknell.

The second part of the duet did not disappoint me at all. It picks up Jinta and Raiden's story where the first book left off.

Jinta , who has received the Kitsune, but doesn't have much control over it, even though he still has his insecurities fueled by the Kitsune's spirit.

Raiden, who is the leader of his group of yakuza, also has problems, he fails to placate the rest of the pack, either because the rest don't like that he has a human partner or because his authority is questioned, at the same time Jinta wants him to leave the yakuza.

I didn't know whether to keep listening or not , around 70 , in the second half, because the unthinkable happens, but it gets fixed. I still have to read the bonus, which is short and promising.

I’m so glad I didn’t have to wait forever for part two! I’m not a big fan of cliffhangers. But I did order a signed copy of this duet already 🤩

This picks up right where Secrets and Sake leaves off. We get more of the Jinta and Raiden goodness. And a heaping helping of angst. And a 3rd act breakup. But! It’s all done so well.

Jinta is learning, or trying to learn, to live with his life changes. Raiden is still trying to love and feel worthy of being loved. There’s more yakuza drama and some people from the past show up to add some emotional spice, I’m not the best way.

Loved this ending! I hope we get more Bo us content for these two, I’ve lived following along. Thank you for an early copy to share my review!

CJ gets me every time with these hard won HEA's, but I think Raiden and Jinda's might have been the hardest one yet. The tears were absolutely streaming down my face at one point, but God, it was worth it. I loved every single second of the book.

I was so invested in Jinta and Raiden I just wanted them to be happy! Jinta is the actual cutest ever, and even when he is a blood thirsty Kitsune, I loved him!!

The spice was definitely spicing in this one. These two are HOT.

The story is fast-paced and has a lot going on from the very beginning. I devoured the duet, and I would love to have more books from this world.

Thank you so much to CJ for the arcs of this duology, you knocked this out of the park!!
This book picks up where Secrets and Sake leaves off, with Jinta and Raiden in the fight of their lives. Danger is coming at them from every angle: rival packs, their own pack, hunters, and most dangerous of all, the cursed kitsune. The more danger surrounds them, the more Raiden can’t see a way out of the yakuza life, and into a normal, quiet life with Jinta. No matter how bad the demons are around them, there’s just as many demons inside of them threatening their relationship. Jinta can’t escape the thoughts of inadequacy set into him by his family, while Raiden’s past has taught him that love brings nothing but heartache. Their love and their bond may be the only thing that can save them, but they must first accept it themselves.
This story is action packed, fast paced, and sexy AF!! CJ brought the 🔥🔥🔥 in this one!!

4.5☆

This second book of the duet was really action packed! It started out with a bang and just continued after that. The hits just kept coming. So many things happened and I was not bored at all.

Throughout everything happening with the curse, the kitsune, the yakuza, the hunters, the Takada-kai, Raiden and Jinta also struggle with their own traumas and feelings of inadequacy. Both of them have feelings of not being enough for others. Raiden struggles with feelings of abandonment because of his parents and I'm happy that he got to see them and get some closure from the situation. He also struggles with feeling like he's not good enough, that he can't make it outside of the yakuza life and that he'll only bring Jinta down. Jinta on the other hand struggles greatly with feeling like he's not good enough for Raiden. This feeling of not being good enough has followed him from his childhood, where he was always made to feel inadequate. He too has a chance to confront his parents when they offer him his brothers position, but they also want him to act in a certain way. I'm happy he was strong enough to speak his mind ans cut them out of his life.

I'm really happy that we got more elements of japanese mythology in this book. Tamano-no-Mae was a very interesting kitsune to encounter and I really enjoyed learning about her story. She gave Jinta a hard time for a while, but they started working together after a while and at the end she also got her final HEA.

It was interesting to see all the shifting happening and the scene with Izanami. It was interesting to see Jinta become more growly and protective of Raiden while hosting the kitsune and being able to shift into fox form.

There were some tears at the end, but thankfully everything worked out in the end and the bad people got disposed of.

I really enjoyed Jinta and Raiden's relationship. They were both very protective of each other and I love how proud Raiden was whenever he fed Jinta. I loved that they both really enjoyed cooking and that it was something they bonded over. I would have loved for them to not be so insecure about their relationship, but so many things were happening that they didn't really have time for in depth talks. I really loved that they just wanted to keep each other safe, no matter the cost. I really enjoyed their claiming scenes aswell.

The epilogues had a scene I didn't know I needed but love so much. It was great to see them 5 years in the future and see how everything worked out.

Definitely a very interesting read, with a vwey interesting story and a lot of action.

ARC review

4.5/5

The second book in the series couldn’t be more perfect than it was. After finishing the first book, I had to continue reading the second book immediately. The character development and the plot line was chefs kiss. However the plot felt sometimes kind of rushed, but was still interesting. Even with the spoiler/content warning, my heart broke at least five times, but at the end it was all worth it. I 100% recommend this series and I wish I could read it for the first time again! 💖

The second book is definitely better after being more invested in the couple and story. Picks up after book 1 so this must be read in order.

So much more drama and action in this. That plot twist had me almost throw my kindle, but luckily everyone stays alive cough cough. Ends in HEA, so just keep in mind that Jinta and Raiden are ok and get their hard-earned HEA.

This was part two in the duet after Jinta has been possessed by the Kitsune. This one went right into alot of action with both Jinta and Raiden. Make sure to check the triggers.
There are major moments with Raiden fighting for control with the yakuze, the businesses, and trying to keep their relationship together. This one definitely felt darker than the first book. I felt that the author did give us a real relationship within this story, with both ups and downs.
The entire world building was phenomenal, with both the yakuza as well as shifters. I do not read alot of PNR, but this sure got me interested in reading more.

Well note to self when they say they hea is hard earned they are not joking. This one will put you through the ringer and back. After the events of book one, Jinta (Hiro) and Raiden must learn to accept their new places in the yakuza as not a henchmen but boss. These two do not have smooth sailing with enemies coming from all sides its hard to see a way out and free to be themselves. With Raidens past haunting them, it becomes too much where a separation is needed to see what they truly have between each other is real. With that separation, all threads fall into place, and our men are able to finally see the truth. They will do anything and everything to have their hea. Even if that means tearing down the system and being free. The issues I had from part kne are in the past. The author makes up for those and then some. Together, a well-balanced and beautiful duet

✎ ℛ𝒶𝒾𝒹ℯ𝓃 and 𝒥𝒾𝓃𝓉𝒶 have worked their way towards being one of my favorite couples from a book. They love each other with such passion, intensity and fire. The way the take care of each other and breakdown around each other without fear of being judged is beautiful.I loved that they cried when they were hurt and overwhelmed with emotions, that showed emotional maturity.Especially since there’s this ignorant thinking that,”strong men don’t cry”.

I really struggled with this book. Jinta and Raiden had so much momentum from the first half of their duet and yet at the first sign of conflict in this book their relationship totally fell apart. I wanted to be able to put myself in Jinta's shoes and understand the terror and uncertainty he must be feeling with a kitsune spirit possessing him, but his repeated insecurities grated on me, especially when he refused to talk to Raiden about what was bothering him. The two of them were terrible communicators in this book, and they seemed to follow a formula of feeling like they were failing each other, fighting about it, then using sex as a magical cure-all for their issues. I didn't like it, and I felt like their love was making them weaker instead of stronger as the book went on. It really annoyed me that every single bad thing the villain claimed was going to happen ended up happening because Jinta and Raiden made zero effort to change their circumstances, and I was so stressed out and frustrated by the constant negative spiral these characters were stuck in. I needed to see some positives to balance out the negativity in this book, and those brighter moments were so few and far between that I got bogged down in all of the chaos that was going on. I don't believe that anyone in Raiden's pack would have actually stood by him when he made questionable decision after questionable decision, especially when his response every time Jinta worried about the rifts he was causing was "screw them all". I didn't get why Raiden was waffling so much about choosing a yakuza life vs a life with his mate when he didn't seem to like being the boss at all, and so it was hard for me to feel satisfied when he finally picked a path and committed to it. Jinta's storyline was more satisfying, because at least he got closure with his family and figured out how to work with the kitsune, but even at the most pivotal moments in this book he didn't seem like he was fighting with everything he had to stay with his true love. Maybe my problem is that I'm not giving the characters enough credit for pushing through the absolutely wild stuff that went down in this book, but I guess I was expecting these two to fight tooth and nail for their love all the time instead of giving in to their doubts so often. I did finish the book, because I was invested in how the story ended, but not even seeing Jinta and Raiden's happy, less-stressful life together could get rid of the grumblings I had from the rest of their journey.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

This book is the second one in this series, this can't be read as a standalone, you have to read the first book in order to understand what's happening. Having said that, this book picks up right where the first one left off.

We're plunged back into the war between the two wolf gangs, the hunters, and the cursed Kitsune. The action scenes in this particular book are more intense and frequent than in the prior book. We went on a lot of different journeys with the MC's across these two books, and we really got to see these men grow and evolve into their true inner selves. I loved the concept of the Kitsune, I enjoyed the plot twist of things not being as they might seem. At first glance you would just assume the Kitsune loves revenge and is pure evil... But if you dive a bit deeper, ask meaningful questions, you'll realize there is so much more than what you assumed.

I found this story to be written exceptionally well, the world building in this book is as great as it was in the first one. I appreciated how well the author continued Raiden and Jinta's story so smoothly. Sometimes when character's stories get stretched out across multiple books you lose some important elements. That didn't happen here, which I'm happy about!

Raiden and Jinta are hot and cold, stubborn and fierce, Bold and shy, they can be similar to oil and water at times. They burn hot but can sometimes end up burning each other. There was a lot of conflict between the MC's within the pages of this book. While I do appreciate and enjoy angst, and a hard won HEA, I do think this story might've benefited from a fight or two being left out. When they would fight it would get heated, they'd each get upset, and then steamy times would start and things were okay again. That happened repeatedly, and it got to a point where I don't think they added much to the story aside from conflict and drawing out the story longer. Having said that it didn't detract from the story as a whole, it's just something I picked up on.

Something I loved the most in this book is seeing Jinta and Raiden become the men they've always wanted to be but never knew they could. They had a rough, long, and heartbreaking road to get there, but they arrived in the end. All in all, a terrific duet of books.

🦊werewolf x kitsune pairing
🐺Yakuza inner working problems
🦊Who is betraying the gang?
🐺Living with a curse
🦊And unlikely team up
🐺More. family. drama.
🦊..and so the story continues....

we're back again in the middle of Raiden taking control over the yakuza and Jinta trying to make space for himself within that dynamic + their budding relationship. But Jinta is taunted by the spirit of the Kitsune that possesses him.

It's easy to tell early on that both Raiden AND Jinta suffer from very low self worth and low self esteem. It broke my heart to see them both feeling so low about themselves honestly. But it helps the story progess sadly.

Raiden is trying to control the yakuza he found himself in charge of, but there are enemies surrounding him... and they are closer then they appear. From inner gang betrayal to rival gang betrayal, it leaves you on the edge of your seat or bed lol with the amount of close calls this book has.

Please please please read the content warning before proceeding to read this book. It does have a HEA.. but it's a BIG struggle to get there. Around 70%ish Raiden and Jinta relationship takes a big turn. One that left me in tears right before having to work lol. It's safe to say that both men really struggle with their worth and their families have not helped at all in the that department, so the baggage that comes with the trauma really rides them both hard. Again it does have a HEA I swear!

For book 2 this really had a lot of twists and turns and you really felt like you were in the middle of all the chaos and power struggles. You also felt the heart break and loss between our wolf and kitsune but you also feel their reunion and strong bond.

We get to see both men interact with their families again on some level and it still isn't very good for either of them. Raiden gets more closure then he had before, but Jinta is finally done done with his family (cheers!).

Overall, world building, story weaving and character development really kept the story revolving and moving forward even when it felt like you were set back. All part of the magic of writing I suppose!

I absolutely loved this book! I'd read book one- Secrets and Sake- and then listened to it in audiobook and fell in love even more. So I was salivating for book two to find out what would happen to Jinta with the kitsune curse and Tamano, Raiden who now leads the Namikawa-kai yakuza wolves, and the dangers they face from both Takada's rival clan, and the hunters coming after them.

Apart from the action, danger, and suspense- there were battles both outside and from within. Both Jinta and Raiden have powerful insecurities and demons they harbor from their pasts. Both feel inadequate for the other and doubt themselves regardless about how powerful their feelings for each other are. There were twists and turns, and both at times had to face their pasts. The story was quite emotional for me at times. One particular thing that happened affected me so strongly I had to stop and take a break. But I really liked how that situation was handled overall. I loved when the dynamic between Jinta and Raiden grew beyond what either of them thought it would be. (And my God was it hot!) I loved how everything came together by the end.

No spoilers, but I really wish the bonus epilogue of a certain celebratory event was narrated with the audiobook! I loved it and even though it's short, wanted to hear it out loud.

I really hope to get more in this world, see my guys again!, and see more of Ren and her new position. Because she is and will remain awesome! I also want to see more of Hirano.

Nick Cracknell did another fantastic job narrating this book! I loved the emotion he put into it and the voices of the different characters. I'm searching now for more of his work because I need to hear him narrate more. He had the perfect voice for this world.

I can't recommend this book- this duet- more!

Overall: 5 stars
Performance: 5 stars
Story: 5 stars

Noboru is struggling…. He had to save the love of his life, Jinta was dying and Noboru couldn’t lose him. The only solution was to allow the Kitsune to consume Jintas body, it’s only temporary, Noboru is determined to break this curse and free the love of his life from the monsters, but a twist of fate has him losing everything, faith in himself, in his relationship, in his pack and in his ability to provide and protect all that he’s worked for. His world is falling down around him, the only way to save his love is to open his heart and soul to the one man who has ever shown him what life is truly about. Can Noboru leave behind everything hes ever known? everything he has grown up in? Can he be the man Jinta needs? Only time will tell.

Jinta cannot control this Kitsune. His world is spinning out of control, he understands it was the only choice to save his life but he does not regret sacrificing himself for Noboru , he would do it again. Navigating his relationship and his will over the Kitsune not to mention the enemies they’ve made on the outside, has absolutely exhausted. Plagued by constant doubt and worry over the leadership of the yakuza Jinta just wants to get away, take Noboru and build a life somewhere where they’re not being targeted by enemies. Something has got to give, but what if it’s his relationship? What if they love they share is not enough to survive, what if Jinta isn’t enough to fight for?

The conclusion to this duo is fast paced filled with action adventure and mystery. You get to see the inner workings of Noboru’s mind and Jinta’s feelings. Filled with heartbreak and life altering decisions can this couple make it? Can fate outweigh everything that has fallen in their path?

Continuing straight after Secrets and Sake, I was happy to get myself lost in Jinta and Raiden's world. After book 1 ended up with Jinta being possessed by the Kitsune to save his life. Raiden and Jinta lives get more intense. Not only is Raiden the leader of the Namikawa-kai and is trying to keep peace within the ranks over his wish to take a human mate, their lives are in danger due to the hunters, Takada is still sniffing around. and Jinta is having difficulty controlling the Kitsune. Even with all this going on their love was still strong and the conclusion to the HEA although hard, was worth it.
I was so invested in Jinta and Raiden that I found myself reading into the night. With Jinta housing the Kirsune I loved seeing his possessive side and there was a few sweet moments when Jinta went all caveman to try and protect Raiden.
This story was an emotional rollercoaster from them fighting to save each other, the meetings with their respective parents (Jinta, if I was your mom I would have been proud of you and Raiden I would never have abandoned you) and there was a moment I did gasp and I must admit I was ready to throw my kindle and did reread that scene again, just to make sure I had read what I read.
There has not been many books I have read which involved a Kitsune and this has now wanting me to read more.
This book completed Jinta and Raiden's story perfectly, leaving no loose ends. The spice was extra spicy at times and their love could not get any stronger. Such a great series and I would recommend this to anyone who likes their shifters with a bit of a bite

The continuation of Jinta and Raiden’s story in CJ Ravenna’s latest novel is nothing short of exhilarating! Packed with high-stakes action and constant adventure, I found myself completely engrossed, unable to put the book down. Jinta, who is sweet and insecure at the beginning, evolves into a fierce kitsune, showcasing a character arc that is both compelling and inspiring.

The plot thickens with intense conflicts occurring between werewolf mobs, which only intensifies the drama throughout the narrative. The unrelenting werewolf hunters add another layer of tension, as they pursue their objectives with ruthless abandon, leading to shocking betrayals and heart-wrenching losses. Ravenna does an incredible job of weaving a tale filled with blood and gore, ensuring that the stakes remain high and the reader’s engagement is unwavering.

Perhaps one of the most striking aspects of this story is the emotional depth that Ravenna provides. The passionate bond between Jinta and Raiden is palpable, filled with heat and complicated feelings that showcase the vulnerabilities of their relationship. Amidst the violence and chaos, there are heart-wrenching moments that will tug at your heartstrings. However, after navigating through this turbulent emotional landscape, readers are ultimately rewarded with a satisfying happy ending that feels well-deserved.

Overall, CJ Ravenna has crafted an extraordinary world that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. This thrilling journey through ups and downs has been a spectacular experience!

Curses and Kitsune by C.J. Ravenna

An epic conclusion to this fantastic duet! This duet is a must-read for lovers of possessive paranormal romances!

What's it all about
Raiden and Jinta have overcome multiple hurtles and defeated the Raiden’s tormentor. Now they can live happily ever after…right? Right?!? Except, Jinta is possessed by an ancient Kitsune, Raiden is the boss of the yakuza, and threats just keep popping up. Between the Namikawa-kai, hunters, and ex-boyfriends, will Raiden and Jinta ever catch a break? Is Jinta enough for Raiden to leave all of this yakuza business behind? Can Raiden save Jinta from the shadows the Kitsune’s persuasion?

My thoughts
- Once again, I am completely obsessed with these two! The obsession and possession is just so well written!
- This book is fast paced, and I couldn’t put it down! The loss of yet another night’s sleep was well worth it. This author is new to me (this duet is the first works I’ve read by them), but they have 100% gained a new loyal reader!
- C.J. Ravenna knows how to write spice! WOO! I swear by the end of this, I needed to take a cold shower because OOF!

Overall, I loved this second book in the Yakuza Duet, as Jinta and Raiden adjust to their new realities. Both still suffer from self-worth issues (thanks family) and the belief that they are not good enough/worthy enough for the other. Together, they seek a cure for the kitsune curse, but rival Yakuza gangs (both werewolf and human) and hunters challenge them, as does betrayal and desertion from within their own pack. This is another exciting rollercoaster ride of drama, danger, and suspense. I enjoyed the story, especially the way Jinta reached out to the kitsune spirit in an attempt to understand her and work with her to achieve a solution that could give them both what they want. I appreciated her reasons and that the author gave her some depth, making he more than a faceless vengeful spirit. There is plenty of trauma and some twists and turns before a very satisfying conclusion. To be sure, EVERYONE gets what they deserve, good and bad. The reason I gave the story only four stars was the (for me) excess of sex, that often consumed whole chapters. Whenever there was a disagreement or turmoil, Raiden and Jinta turned to sex instead of talking. Worked for stress relief, but didn't help the relationship. I would have preferred more conversation.

The narration was excellent and gave appropriate voices to the characters. (I.E. tough and a bit gruff for Raiden, quiet and sensitive for Jinta, seductive but vengeful for the kitsune, etc.)

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

The fox and the wolf (an audio review)

I really enjoyed the first book in the Yakuza Duet, so was eager to pick up this one. We left off with Jinta newly inhabited by the Kitsune with no clear understanding (for me) what that actually meant. But he was alive and that meant everything to me (and Raiden, obviously). So the story begins with Jinta discovering he’s now a shifter and can become a white fox. He enjoys playing with Raiden’s larger wolf.

All is not right in the world, though. Raiden is still the head of a criminal gang. Jinta is a reporter who is supposed to be investigating them. There’s violence, destruction, and chaos. And, increasingly, the Kitsune within Jinta wants blood. That means he’s becoming a risk to everyone around him – most especially Raiden.

Then they can’t agree on things and Jinta goes back to see his parents. Big mistake. It’s amazing he’s turned out so well, given where he came from. Raiden and Jinta also on a search for Raiden’s father in the hopes he can provide answers as to how to banish the Kitsune once and for all.

Now, I don’t read Manga, so I think some of the nuance might’ve been lost on me, but this story’s so good, I didn’t care. I got my HEA in a way I didn’t expect but that was perfect. Nick Cracknell did a brilliant job with narrating and I hope to hear more of him in the future. Even better would be more Cracknell/Ravenna productions.

well, that became more interesting, I apparently was more invested in the book then I realised because I couldn't stop myself from picking this one up and read it. I honestly still not sure what the outcome of it all is, but I finished it, so I clearly get the appeal and think other will enjoy it. especially if you've looked into it this far

Oh, and you def need to read this series in order.

Troupes:
Grumpy x sunshine
Touch him and die
Instalove
Fated mates
High Heat
Kinks: Public sex, Praise kink, Primal play, Knotting
CW: Triggers: Graphic violence, including descriptions of torture, gore, and dismemberment | Parental neglect, abandonment, and emotional abuse | Discussion of grooming and sexual abuse of a main character when he was a minor that occurred off-page before the story | There is some other man drama. One of the main characters is forced to make a deal with a villain that he’ll be “his” if the villain will aid them. However, the deal never actually happens, and the main character and the villain do not get together at any point in the story
Major story spoiler: Temporary main character death (they are resurrected and both MCs are alive and well at the end. This is a romance after all, and the story has a HEA but the going gets rough around 70%! My books will always have HEAs but I like to make them hard-won. Please prioritize your mental health!)

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Ahhhh the OTT melodrama and histrionics were strong in this one, and while it had all the wild and awesome action and dynamic energy i generally love in Ravenna's love stories, i was sort of disappointed with how much this book leaned into the soap opera vibe that Book 1 didn't really have!

I wasn't a fan of Jinta. He swore up and down in Book 1 that he was Raiden's ride or die, even if it took the Yakuza boss time to get the violence sorted so he could be free and clear to bounce. But Book 2 was...not that, and i was pretty over it by 30%. And Raiden who i really loved, was a great murdery boss no doubt, but then he would devolve into Eeyore over his fated mate 2 sentences later and i just wasn't feeling it.

I still loved Ravenna's suuuuperrrrr steamy melt your kindle levels of heat, and her fantastical, monster-filled world of shifters in love and war! and Tokyo (and OFC katsudon - shout out to YOI which owns my whole heart) always has a special place in my heart!!!

So yessss i really loved THIS vibe, and i enjoyed this duet for the most part, and i honestly can't wait for whatever CJ has in store for us next, because i'm sure it will be all kinds of ferocious and very very awesome!

So good!

This story evoked a lot of different emotions from me, which is why it gets 5 stars. There are things not perfect, but they pale in comparison to everything that had me really feeling Raiden's and Jinta's emotions.

One thing that stuck out to me that wasn't perfect was the knotting. It seemed to be inconsistent and only mentioned when it served a purpose to heighten the moment. And the other is Jinta's job is kind of brushed aside after a short time.

It took him some time and anguish, but Raiden is finally able to accept he deserves Jinta's love, and realizes how much he loves him in return. I loved seeing his growth, and the closure he's also able to achieve. And Jinta never gives up, his determination and love unwavering. He is the stronger of the two of them, and that allows Raiden to draw strength from him when he needs it most. I just love them both so much.

Again, this book is written very well, with only a handful of minor typos. The steam is high and satisfying; the emotion is intense, angsty, and heartbreaking at times; and the love is palpable and oh so sweet and consuming.

The story was original and engaging. I devoured the book in one day. I think these characters will stay with me for a while. Their HEA was hard won. That ending was such a joy to read. I look forward to more from this author.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good conclusion to the A Paranormal Yakuza Duet Series. I’ve really enjoyed immersing myself in the world that CJ has created. The world building was on point. I thought that Jinta & Raiden were great together and their chemistry was completely off the charts. They go through so much during this book to get their happily ever after. Definitely well worth all the hardship that they’ve been through. I’m glad that CJ put the content warnings at the start of the book, even if there is a massive spoiler that I couldn’t not read lol but it could be a trigger for a lot of people so it’s great that it was included with warnings that it’s a major spoiler so it’s up to the reader whether they want to read it or not. Both Raiden and Jinta’s parents are absolute a*seholes and never deserved either of them. I can fully understand why both of them are the way they are, especially Raiden. I’m looking forward to reading more books from CJ Ravenna in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

******I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and would happily review it even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

It was good. There were parts where it was Teka-teking in the middle, but all in all, it's a good story about fighting for the life you want.

I will say, though, I wish the author gave us more on the supernatural side of things. After the kitsune moved bodies, It would have flowed better if Hiro, being the reporter he is, dug around looking for more info about this curse and how to master it like the former boss had.

A huge chuck of the book was them, Hiro and Raiden, running around in circles not having a plan, Hiro and his Insecurities, pack members questioning Raiden's leadership and the kitsune mentally tormenting Hiro

A chapter or two would have been nice where Hiro becomes a bit badass, I mean, he had a very powerful spirit with him🤷🏾‍♀️ instead of always calling on Raiden through the bond to save him.

Also another thing, the Book being a paranormal romance, some of the characters being supernatural, I found it a bit weird that Raiden's pack didn't have like a library or Whatever where their magical history Is stored.

Also , a "family" witch/ necromancer, etc. that works for the pack or elders... like a source of magical knowledge, they would have gone to the minute they wanted to know how to break the Curse.

Also, Had Hiro learned to control the kitsune, I would have loved a Smexy scene of both of them in that half Shifted form😩🔥🤭

God this one was ANGSTY. Much more high stakes than book 1 but I would go through more to read about Raiden and Jinta. Seriously though it is full of heartbreak and drama. Raiden and Jinta have to fight tooth and nail for their HEA. That being said, it certainly makes you invested. And it's well written angst that actually feels authentic so no complaints here.

I actually started it immediately after finishing book one but then I had a book crisis when I realized after it was over there would be no more and so had to pause half way through just to drag it out a little longer 💀

I just love Raiden and Jinta and am so so happy they get their HEA. This world and the way it mixes suspense and paranormal elements is excellent. I'd read plenty more in it if I had the chance. Lots of romance and spice while staying true to the plot and providing us with a heaping amount of angst. This one isn't to be missed in PNR romance. It satisfies so many tastes, from the extreme romantics to the ones who like all the heartache and pain, it has a little bit of everything. Needless to say I really enjoyed it.

Also it's out in audiobook and it's very well done! So be sure to check that out if you like listening to your books.
