Stylish thieves waltz away with $200 millions’ worth of art from a prince’s mansion. But the prince tells no one, not even the police. Much later, John Kite is hired to get the artworks back – with a deadline of just a few days. What game is the prince playing? Why was the entire heist captured elegantly on video? And is he actually a prince at all? Worse, Kite is attacked by a gang whose mission is to stop him recovering the stolen goods. Then a series of murders leads Kite to a criminal who enjoys hiding his booty in plain sight, while government intercepts give clues to the prince’s ulterior motive - a product of his vaulting ambition which will bring havoc to the world. Unless Kite can stop him.
Where is the smallest country ruled by a Muslim King with lines of royalty? There’s so much drama from such a small nation that it crosses Europe and the UK; even to include US agents. Plush motorhomes and cars, commercial, private, & sea planes, helicopters, fishing boats, aircraft carriers, container ships…how would you like to travel? There is a reunion of characters and of course many new ones. Intrigue, entitlement, narcissism, phobias, greed, art theft and recovery, kidnapping and imprisonment, archaeology, murder, Shira law, de-princeing. What might appear to be tangents are all story lines to complete the plot. There is never a dull moment and many aha moments…like “How did Daughty think of that?” A love story and a lust story. This is definitely a page-turner, so be prepared that “just one more chapter” might keep you up all night. Having read the previous eight Kite novels, number nine is my favorite to date. First time readers of a Kite thriller, hang on to your hats; and repeat Kite readers, well hang on to your hats as well. Doughty does not disappoint.
This series keeps getting better and better. John Kite isn’t the typical hero who shoots first and then thinks. He is intelligent, thoughtful, and calm. Except when he turns into the Hulk. The characters are developed nicely. Plenty of suspense and action. A very good plot line that unfolds slowly at just the right pace. I enjoyed this so much that I am going to reread the series. Highly recommended.
Another brilliant story in this excellent series. It was fast moving, full of twists and turns and with so many fascinating characters throughout. John Kite is a fascinating character with a strong sense of right and wrong and a determination to solve whatever mystery is presented to him. I look forward to the next in series.
A great addition to Kite’s series. Great action and a great whostoleit plot. And, a special appearance by a character who deserves his own series, Mr. Doughty!
