I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.
Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!
I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

For two decades now Serra has loved Fane, but forever loyal to his position he has turned her down at every turn. She knows she means more to him then he lets on but for whatever stubborn-cowardly reason he fights against his own needs. Deciding to finally move on with her life, not like she's been a saint, but officially try and move on the unthinkable happens. She'd been mind-fucked. Her. Serra Vetrov. One of the most powerful psychics in the world. Bass, the leader of the shadow society of high-bloods demands her assistance in retrieving something very dear to him and he is not beyond using any means necessary.
Fane knows the moment Serra disappears and sets out to save her and bring her home where she belongs. Fane the most powerful of the Sentinels, who is the most feared and respected, feels helpless when can't use his charm or power to save her. Setting aside his pride and putting Serra first, giving her the strength and protection to get through this. Fear crumbling him of coming to terms of a world without her, feeling so stupid he vows to prove to her how wrong he has been....but is it too late?
Bass has finally been forced to face the life he's built himself and all the people who suffered to get him to where he is today. He doesn't regret what he's done, he's willing to risk it all just to get the most important thing in his life back.
Blood Assassin is a book I thoroughly enjoyed. I think this is the first book I can say that I fell for both the Hero and the Villain, they both are far from perfect, both fighting on opposite sides of the moral divider, but they have so much in common. Willing to do whatever it is too keep the ones they love safe. While they sported their alpha vibes, they had a vulnerability about them when it came to the ones they love. It almost made their actions acceptable. The world we are introduced to is a interesting one at that, it was a world that can easily be imagined. Serra is a strong powerful physic and while some would say her attempt to get Fane in the beginning was desperate, at least she went after what she wanted and spoke her mind, not leaving any regrets behind.
I got completely sucked into the plot and while there is a sense of an ending, there is so much more to come. As this ended I couldn't help but feel excited, looking forward for the next story. I can tell it's going to be a good one. This series has so much possibility can go so many directions, in my head with the secondary characters I envisioned at least 4 other stories, and each one will bring it's own something special to the table. Awesome read for the paranormal lovers out there.
*While I may have skipped book 1, I quickly rectified that and purchased he first book in the series. I may know the outcome of the book, it's the journey I am looking forward to read.

Blood Assassin was an excellent adventure that was totally worth taking.
Fane is a Sentinel facing what could be considered a “change of life crisis”. His sole role was being a protector to a necromancer. Now that his role is obsolete, he struggles to find a new role and come to terms with his feeling for the necromancer's best friend, Serra.
Fane and Serra have kept a careful hold on their relationship, but something is coming that will blow their hold to pieces.
Serra is a telepath of superior ability. When Serra is trapped into a difficult situation, Fane comes to the rescue. All the carefully constructed walls between Serra and Fane must come down if Serra hopes to survive.
It becomes a matter of trust and learning to let yourself reach for what you truly want, even if it means putting yourself in a vulnerable position. Ivy magically pulls us through Fane's and Serra's rocking but electrifying story.
I have not found one book by Alexandra Ivy that I haven't wanted to devour. There is something charismatic about her characters that sucks you into their paranormal fantasy world and makes you emotionally invested in their lives. That being said if you love a great paranormal romance/urban fantasy you should really check out The Sentinels series by Alexandra Ivy.

Really good world-building where humans are down the totem pole and high bloods think they are at the top. The Sentinels, warriors or guardians, trained by Tibetan Monks are the police force of the High Bloods. Warriors do what warriors do and guardians, the bodyguards, are immune to magic due to their major covering of magical tattoos.
High bloods are really just mutated humans or supernatural creatures like witches, but have some impressive powers. They are supposed to do things for the good of everyone, not turn rogue and hire themselves out as mercenaries.
Serra is a powerful psychic who lives in Valhalla and loves Fane a Guardian Sentinel who is all "she's better off without me". Serra has had enough of it and just when she is about to do something stupid, she is spelled, poisoned and mysteriously leaves Valhalla. Everyone is upset, but it is Fane who follows her and finds her with Bas, said mercenary high blood. Turns out he was trained by the Tibetan Monks as a legendary Assassin Sentinel. They have now been disbanded.
Bas's 4yr old daughter Molly has been kidnapped and he needs Serra to locate her. Serra meanwhile is alive only as long as Bas wishes as it is a magical poisoning, so Fane can't kill Bas, no matter how much he wants to.
Along the way Fane realises he can't go on without Serra, who he's secretly wanted for years. Serra has always wanted him right back and was never afraid to say so. Fane & Serra are ideally suited to each other as they are both strong, independent types with a matching idealist philosophy.
The mystery of Molly's abduction was very intriguing and the interaction of Lana, the Mave, and Wolfe, Fane's boss, the Tagos, was well done.
Looking forward to the next book.

3.5 Hearts Ok so here is the thing. I enjoyed this story for the most part but some things about it just didn't add up. First the good. I enjoyed the connection between Fane and Serra. Even from the last book we knew they were attracted to each other and Fane was holding off so it was great to see them come together. Bas… well Bas is an interesting character who at first seemed like a jerk and then we realize he is just a dad wanting his baby back (that is in the synopsis so it is not a spoiler) so you give him some slack because come on what dad wouldn’t go to any lengths they had available to get his baby back? And the Mave and Wolfe. Well lets just say they need their own story or at least a novella.
But now the other side of things. First Fane does a 180 so quickly that it makes his “no Serra rule” just seem crazy. I mean he is alone with her for 2 seconds and all of a sudden he realizes he can't live without her? And here is Serra’s dream coming true after everything and she just says “ok sure no problem”? I mean wouldn’t she question his turn? Ok maybe she does for a moment but not too long. Then the baby kidnapping story goes on wayyyyyy too long. I mean sheesh we didn’t need a walk through of every house that Serra needed to look for Molly at. Then I can’t even tell you how many times this Sentinel and psychic screw up. How many times they let someone get the jump on them or the “psychic” doesn’t see what is going on. I mean sheesh it is like they left Valhalla and lost their strengths. And finally the cover is just terrible. Yeah I know that had nothing to do with the storyline but it has to be said. Who designed that cover? Neither one of the characters look good.
Ok so yes there is a bunch just not right with this story but all in all it is a good story. It leads us to the next book which is Bas’ story and that sounds like it might be interesting. Am I jumping up and down over this story? No but I am looking forward to continuing the series.

Basic facts. Yes, this is a standalone installment. Yes, this is a contemporary urban fantasy action adventure suspense filled read that will suck you in and hold you tight until you are finally spit out at the end wanting more...
The author has created an alpha lead character who dares the world to get in his way while pissing off everyone around him with his social skills, take no B.S. attitude, and it's my way or the hi-way philosophy. Additionally the physical package of cockiness, snark, and tats personify the bad boy strong silent type who I'd love to manhandle me into submission any day of the week. But. Surprisingly the author paired this bad boy with a female lead who matches him on the other side of the spectrum. Can we say spontaneous combustion?
This book is cover to cover action and suspense as Serra is recruited (?) into locating 4 year old, Molly, using her psychic powers. Fane, adrift since his charge Callie found HER mate, Blood Assassin, plans to leave Valhalla until he finds out the circumstances surrounding Serra's assignment. It's at that point he finally realizes.. well, you get the picture, and knows he must save his lady love. Well, it's the 21st century and women can save themselves. YOU GO GIRL !!!!! But, she'll accept Fane as an equal partner for the duration of the assignment.
Throw in some hot adult erotic content and a possible love triangle and I pretty much inhaled this book. Best line of the whole book (though there were many many many runner up possibles): He spoke directly in to her ear. "When we do have the time to measure our dicks, mine will be the biggest." OMG. When a story includes snark, sexual tension, and a whole lot of testosterone bashing. I'm in. As to WHO said this. Gotta read the book to find out. hehehehe.
The secondary cast of characters were as good as I've ever read. Lana, Wolfe, Bas, Kaede, Molly, Marco, and other minor characters were the frosting on the cake. They all were integral in some way to the success of the story line and definitely have me wanting more (future installment potential).
There is a suspense/mystery that runs along the story line that added another layer of depth to the core central plot. So you might say this is the total package type of read. As the blurb really doesn't go into the meat and potatoes of this book I'll hold back myself as this is a new release and I won't spoil the experience for potential readers.
This is the first book I've read this year. If it's any example of what's coming out in 2015, it's gonna be a really really good year for readers. :D

Fane can’t be away from Serra. When she disappears, he tracks her. The high-blood might not want his help, but he’s going to get it. Secrets of The Sentinels world are revealed and there are some surprises for Serra as the mystery unravels throughout Blood Assassin.
While the mystery plot is certainly worth your time, the real star of Blood Assassin is the electric energy between its hero and heroine.
The sexual tension between Fane and Serra pops. There’s no question these two have chemistry, and it’s the energy when they’re both on the page that kept me moving through Blood Assassin at a quick pace. I started the book at 2 a.m. one night and read the first 200 pages before my body cried for sleep. There is a hitch, though, to the energy between these two characters. They keep getting in their own way. As a romance readers, it’s something we’ve certainly encountered before, but it’s a big source of frustration. From the beginning of the novel, it’s clear that Fane wants Serra and Serra wants Fane, but they aren’t together. He says he can’t be with her because of obligations. When she finally accepts that, he realizes he can’t live without her. So now she’s keeping him at arm’s length.
Despite the hero and heroine delaying their fated togetherness, it was still super sexy. When they’re together—and not denying their feelings—I was wrapped up in the scene, in their romance, their love. Plus, I love Fane. Just. Gah. He’s a deliciously stubborn alpha who knows how to assess a situation and take control. He can, when required, even let others help. He was my favorite part of Blood Assassin, but I expect no one is surprised by that.
I did not read the first Sentinels book prior to reading Blood Assassin (I’m a rebel), and I never found myself lost or wading through a world I couldn’t comprehend. Alexandra Ivy does a nice job of quickly laying the groundwork and introducing her characters. Tonally, Blood Assassin may remind you of a Guild Hunter novel. Plenty of action and a nice dose of steamy romance.

Alexandra Ivy does a nice job of quickly laying the groundwork and introducing her characters. Tonally, Blood Assassin may remind you of a Guild Hunter novel. Plenty of action and a nice dose of steamy romance.

This was a GREAT book, let me get that out of the way up front. It was So good that I almost felt I should go back and subtract a star from my rating for book 1 because this one was so much better and I loved the first one (Born in Blood).
This book creeps in with a bit of romance that has soured and was boring for a few pages then things start to happen, then you get mad along with the characters. You get hooked into a plot that keeps you guessing, a mystery that you can't solve and a few red herrings just to keep you off balance. The fact that it was all done without boring you was part of what made this a great novel.
You have a villain who is having a attack of emotion that you and the hero flip back and forth between kinda feeling sorry for him and wanting to kill him real slow.
If this book has any downside it would be the romance, it is heartfelt but while the author finally does get them to a point they have a strong emotional bond she has already had them in the sack several times which kinda took the romance out of it in many ways for me. It was a very good romance in the end along with the paranormal mystery/thriller/romance/urban fantasy that it was and I loved it.
Give it 4.5 Stars and round it to 5 with no guilt. Highly recommended but with the caveat that it will not be as good if you have not read book 1 since a lot of things refer back to events/characters from that book.

Why you should read it: In this second Sentinel book, we have the steamy unrequited chemistry between Serra (a psychic) and our poor hero, Fane, who is purposeless after being pledged to a woman who no longer needs him. You don't have to read the first book in the series (Born in Blood), but I do recommend it. Serra and Fane are in a tough place for this "case." I did feel as though Fane really let himself go after Serra only because she was in mortal peril, but then again Serra is just as pig-headed and stubborn as he is, so we know their courtship will be … passionate! This is my favorite series by Alexandra Ivy because it is darker. There are a lot of different undercurrents running through the book and series, and I become engrossed in the characters. I want a Sentinel myself, and let me tell you, I cannot WAIT for the Mave and the head Sentinel to really finally combust (rubs hands gleefully). If you want steam, action, hurt and power, find your favorite Sentinel!

Still on the fence about this one. It's very different from the first book, almost as if Ivy changed her mind on the direction of the series. It took over a week to get through the story. ‘The Immortals’ series plotline is the routine “group of immortals fighting against a powerful enemy, and finding true love along the way" that is pretty much a mainstay in PNR. There are a number of well worn tropes trotted out here, for that matter.
The series could go either way at this point. It could be a very good series, or it could be the same old-same old. There sure were a lot of immortals introduced to the reader, almost thrown out at random to get their characters all introduced at once.

After enjoying my introduction to the Sentinel World and another wonderful series by this author in Born in Blood, I was eager to continue with the series and read about another Sentinel's story. I like the blend of paranormal, intrigue action, and passion in these stories. This second book was no exception.
I'm not sure about the rest of the series, but these two definitely need to be read in order. Both the hero, Fane, and the heroine, Serra, were introduced as minor characters in the previous book. The events of this book begin nearly as soon as the last one finished and the beginning of this one is sparked from that one both the character arcs and some ongoing series arcs.
The story begins with Fane, the lethal Guardian Sentinel, at a loss after the high born he guarded for so many years begins her new life with her husband Guardian Sentinel. He is decided that he needs to return to the Sentinel training role he had before and leave behind the woman he dreams about and loves. In his mind, he is giving her up for her own good as his life is dangerous and takes him away a lot, but in Serra's mind, Fane is just issuing one more crushing rejection after she has put herself out there for him over and over. This time, really was the last time. No more. She's done letting Fane, intentionally or not, stomp on her heart. She will move on even if it kills her.
In the meantime, a shadowy secretive rogue high born brings Serra too him by a compulsion and issues her an ultimatum. Help him find his abducted child or he will allow the poison he has put inside her body to activate and kill her. Any attempt to seek help from her fellow Valhalla highborns or Sentinels will result in the same. He is desperate and there is more at stake than just his missing child. Unfortunately, the rogue doesn't anticipate that Serra has a very dangerous protector who tracked her and will be staying right there with her until the rogue releases her from the poison. Serra is glad to have Fane there, but is determined to see his arrival to aid her as anything, but love. Fane knew the moment that Serra disappeared that he had made a huge mistake. How could he have even thought about separating from her. Serra is his- his to protect, his to care for and his to love- and the rogue will find that his days are numbered as soon as Serra is able to find the little girl with her psychic ability. Meanwhile, others and their activities move forward with their own plans that are on course for Armageddon if they are not stopped.
This one presented so many actions and threads to keep my mind busy and my attention that I couldn't get lazy as I read. The book didn't drag, but I confess that some threads were more intriguing than others for me. I learned that sometimes the smallest thing can be a big deal later on. Like a really minor character from a previous book, Myst the archivist, red flagged for me when some mysterious and tantalizing details crop up. Then there is the growing role of the secret normal human organization set to take out all the highbloods (magical and gifted humans) along with the investigation of the temple in the desert that was revealed in book one. Add onto these things, the ongoing and growing plot of Wolfe and the Mave's relationship and that doesn't even include the current main characters. There is also the insertion of more Sentinel lore with the intro to the other rogue high blood groups and the assassins. Yeah, lots going on here.
And that leads me to the hero and heroine. I liked them individually- Fane was all I hoped for after seeing the huge, trained warrior-protector who really cared for the woman he guarded. He was reared in a monastery without the benefit of familial love and only a harsh, strict regime, but yet he cares deeply and loves Serra passionately. He doesn't believe that he is a good bet for a long-term satisfying relationship so he seeks to do the right thing by Serra and not entrap her to him. Can't fault his motives even though he really wasn't giving her enough credit. At least not the Serra I met in the first book. Now, the Serra of this book maybe he had a point. Her about face in personality made me wonder if she could handle him being out of the room from her let alone out doing his job as a warrior Sentinel.
Serra didn't make sense to me once Fane changed his mind and decided to quit resisting their relationship. She's this tough, confident, kickbutt woman with strong psychic powers who is gorgeous, brazen and knows her mind. She is determined to get her guy even if nefarious means are needed. He frustrates her and keeps her on her toes. He's the only guy that she can't just waggle her hips or give the come hither look and he comes. Serra's a cocky one so it was a nice balance that Fane was attracted, but not slobbering at her heels too. But then, as soon as she does have his attention, she turns into this insecure needy type that starts dinking around throwing up emotional walls and making excuses that he doesn't love her and that this is just duty, etc. Not once has Fane lied or given her less than the truth so why she suddenly can't seem to believe a word he says makes no sense to me especially when her actions made it clear that she both trusted and loved him. Fortunately, they are kept really busy on their mission so I didn't spend a lot of time with her doing her wishy washy thing.
In the end, this was another exciting installment in the series. That teaser at the tail end will drive me nuts until I get the next installment. It wasn't a cliffhanger just this twist that leaves things in an interesting place. I would recommend this one and the series to those who enjoy paranormal romance involving witches and gifted humans or X-Men style spicy romance stories.

Admit it; we all swoon over the hero who has an inner insecurity that is buried deep within his heart. Fane is the best of the best, the bravest of the brave, he is a Sentinel, a guardian who would die for those he protects. Outwardly fierce, he is adrift now that his former charge no longer needs him, too much time to think, not enough action. Serra is a highblood with a special talent that is needed by another to find his young daughter. Let’s say this businessman isn’t totally upfront in his dealings and has a list of enemies longer than a child’s Christmas wishlist. Naturally, instead of hiring Serra, or chancing that she may not be interested, he kidnaps her and gives her a deadly timetable to find his daughter. Serra has also been in love with and rebuffed by Fane. When Fane discovers she is missing, he will move mountains to keep her safe and alive. Looks like Fane has a huge, but secret emotional need for this fiery and amazing woman.

BLOOD ASSASSIN is full of unique paranormal goodness. If you are looking for a new twist on paranormal romance THE SENTINELS series is a must read. Alexandra Ivy has created a world that sucked me in and had me quickly swiping pages on my Kindle. In BLOOD ASSASSINS Fane is learning to live with the absence of his bond with Callie after transferring it to her mate Duncan. Although not in love with Callie she had been Fane's main responsibility and the one person that he cared deeply for over the years. Now with that connection gone Fane has decided that he needs to start over and that means leaving Valhalla. However, Serra wants something very different for Fane and she wants to lay all of her wants on the table.
After having tried and failed to gain Fane's attention in the past Serra knows that it's now or never when it comes to Fane. After trying and failing with Fane Serra's destiny is altered by an outside influence that has taken her free will from her. Now on a mission to save a child that's been kidnapped Serra's own life is directly tied to her cooperation in finding the missing girl. Things turn out to be much more complicated than she first thought. There is more to what is being asked of her than what she was initially led to believe. This is the second book in the Sentinels series. Sentinels are superior warriors with certain abilities. They put everything into protecting those who need it. This world is chock-full of all types of supernatural beings.
I originally went into this story thinking it was going to be good. This book blew me away!!!
We are introduced to Fane, a six-three two hundred fifty pound tattooed Sentinel, who has fallen for Serra but doesn't believe he is good enough for her. Then Serra struts into the picture with all the stealth of a jungle cat (and just as much beauty). The interactions between the two are beyond entertaining. Serra doesn't accept that Fane won't be with her but she also refuses to put her life on hold until he gets his act together. She is a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. Fane is a possessive alpha male who does an abrupt about-face and decides he will not be giving Serra up. They have amazing chemistry, so much so the Kindle was smoking in my hands.
The plot was engaging. It is exceedingly difficult to create any new plots that haven't already been done before but that was accomplished here. Serra is forced to assist Bas against her will and Fane follows to protect her. She is capable of protecting herself but the alpha male in Fane comes out and refuses to stand by while his woman is in danger.
Overall, the character and plot development was great and I liked it but it may not be a re-read for me. There seemed to be too much information thrown at the reader at one time and that made it slightly confusing.

Blood Assassin was awesome for second in a series, it was full of action and angst which really helped play up the story. The story focuses on Serra and Fane as they try to work together to save a missing child and bring justice to evil high-bloods and angry humans. Unfortunately for Serra and Fane they happen to be on a seriously tight deadline to get things done before time runs out an the unthinkable happens.
I really enjoyed seeing the connection between Fane and Serra grow and change as they're pushed together due to dangerous circumstances. Serra has always been in love with Fane, basically since the first moment she saw him she knew she wanted to spend her life with him. Fane has always wanted Serra as well, but she was always too young for him. He always felt the need to play the noble warrior and leave Serra alone, because he felt he could never truly give her what she deserves. This completely changes in this book, Fane decides he's going to have Serra whether she still wants him or not, he's tired of pretending he doesnt love her when she stole his heart long ago. However, Serra's not so easy to give in, which may destroy what she's always wanted most.
The secondary characters were all well developed and fleshed out. Even those with the smallest part still made an impact because they were so well written. The mix of new characters and those from the previous book helped to make this book better than the first. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend.

This is not going to be a nice review or even a politely critical one - it is more of a rant. I apologize in advance for this. This is a famous author, and I have to wonder why all of the first-timer mistakes. Granted, until this series I had never read a word by her so maybe this is the way she always writes.
I had such high hopes for this book AND this series. I really have to agree with the reviewer who said that this was a "misrepresented" book.
Was the heroine kick *ss? No, she was a whiner who couldn't even do her job, even though she is supposedly one of the most powerful.
Was the hero a steely, hot, sexy, good-looking, brooding, smelly, sweaty, grimacing man - well, yes, and didn't that just get on my last nerve to have this regurgitated nearly every other page?
Was this an action romance, or was this urban fantasy - neither.

Bleh. Although I didn't read the first book, I was able to get the gist of the overall story just fine. I like the premise, but the execution was pretty painful. I hate, hate, hate when human characters in books refer to each other as males and females. I mean, I get that these people are not "norms," but they are still some form of human-type-being. Why can't they refer to each other as men and women?? Also, the author is incredibly over the top when she describes each of the protagonists as being the "best" at whatever their abilities are, but when those abilities are tested it's pretty mediocre. Finally, I can handle an alpha male, but this guy was a douche bag. Controlling, violent, condescending, etc... That is not attractive to me, and it should not be enticing to a female character that is supposedly some kind of badass.
Super lame waste of my time. I gave it 3 stars for the effort put in to the idea and world-building, but I may have been a little generous because I felt bad for hating the writing so much.

Alexandra Ivy takes the time to lay out the inner workings and parameters of her supernatural world before diving into the nuts and bolts of her narrative. The magic, powers and types of ‘beings’ (High Bloods, Guardian and Hunter Sentinels) are explained thoroughly and plausibly before she launches into the dynamics of her futuristic world.
The human ‘Norms’ (normals or beings with no special powers) have slowly become accepting of the High Bloods, Psychics, Witches and Sentinels who have been born amongst them and make up a small portion of the population. Relations have progressed to the point that children with identified burgeoning powers are sent to special training facilities in order to learn about and control their powers for the greater good of the combined population. These facilities are both home and headquarters to the adult ‘specials’, if you will.
It is in the main headquarters in America that we meet our central characters. A sweaty showdown between a shirtless Fane and an upset Serra draws the reader into the highly physical world of this story. Serra confronts Fane demanding to know if the rumor of him leaving the country is true and sets up the crackling sexual and emotional tension that resonates between the two throughout the book.
Each of the protagonists is a physical specimen of perfection. The muscles, stamina and prowess Fane displays is an earmark of the Guardians as legendary lovers, able to please a woman for hours before seeking their own release. Serra, in turn, is a beautiful, dark haired, green eyed beauty with curves that last for days and a penchant for wearing leather, halter tops and giving men whiplash.
The plot instantly thickens as we find out that Serra has loved Fane since her teen years, and still loves him despite his work and special ‘bond’ as a Guardian with another woman he has protected. Fane, being hundreds of years older than Serra (and supposedly the wiser for it), has hidden his own deep love for her in order to protect her from the heartache his work would bring. Fane feels he would never be able to give her the love she deserves, and worries that it may actually hurt her, so he keeps his distance: a classic romance novel trope - forbidden love.
Blood Assassin starts off at a nice pace. A small band of humans have formed ‘The Brotherhood’ dedicated to eradicating the paranormals, and Serra is quickly swept up into a spell-induced abduction, with Fane charging to the rescue. At this point, we start to realise that Blood Assassin is an action novel as much as it is a romance novel, and as such, one would expect the romance of Fane and Serra to be experienced in snatched and stolen moments along their adventure. Unfortunately, this is where the pace falters. Without giving too much away, a time-sensitive, life-threatening situation is not enough to distract our hero and heroine from taking multiple, hours-long, sex filled interludes to explore and indulge their passion for one another.
Now, while I am all for some juicy shower sex, excellent hotel sex and just plain old banging sex (all of which Ms. Ivy is exceptionally talented at writing, in excruciatingly delicious detail), all of these weirdly timed breaks upset the pace of the story. The intensity and active nature of the plot seems at odds with the languorous interludes we get to enjoy between Fane and Serra. I just wish that Ms. Ivy had evened things out a little more, so that the action and the sex were better balanced.
The only other criticism I have of this novel is the strangely timed decision of Serra to spurn Fane’s advances once he starts to truly declare himself. It seems strange that a woman who has loved a man for years, would suddenly, at his breathtakingly expressive attempts to rescue and make love to her, decide not to let her heart be risked. Didn’t we begin the story with Serra demanding to know if Fane was going to abandon her? Serra’s actions on that front don’t really ring true, as any woman having been captivated by a man they had longed for so intensely and so completely and for so long would most likely have said “about bloody time” and jumped into the shower with him butt-naked and ready for loving!!
Overall, the story and creativeness of the world and characters that Ms. Ivy creates are very satisfying. There is enough intrigue and detail to give all readers something to sink their teeth into. There is also a delightful side romance that becomes quite interesting and enticing between the head of the Sentinels and the head of the High Bloods. Perhaps that will be a new novel-romance for Ms. Ivy to develop. I would certainly like to read more about the Mave - to find out who she is/was and who she could fall in love with.
I suppose that these are the reasons why paranormal romances seem to be taking off - they provide the traditional escapism of a romance novel, yet take us to a new world where the impossible can become real and where good and evil still battle it out. And one thing we can all agree about is that everyone loves a rollicking good adventure with some sizzling chemistry, sex and where we can hope the good guys will triumph over evil.

The second in the series continues in the world of the Sentinels with all the danger and intrigue associated with it. I enjoyed the story of Fane and Serra, their attractions is obvious and the romance intense, I look forward to more books set in this world.
Serra is a powerful telepath that lives in Valhalla with others of their world. She enjoys her life and would only change one thing, Fane’s feelings for her. She has loved him for years and she is devastated when she learns he will leave soon.
Fane is a guardian, something he takes very serious, but when the woman he has guarded for years falls in love with another Sentinel, he is at a loss. He plans to return to Tibet, the Sentinel’s training ground to help others. He knows Serra has been in love with him for years but has always avoided her because of his bond with Callie but with that broken he still feels he must stay away, that is until her life is in danger.
The two are forced to help a powerful outsider, Bas, one who does not believe in anything Valhalla has to offer and lives by his own rules. This book has many intertwining stories and many individuals working independently to find a solution to the certain destruction of our world’s infrastructure.
I always enjoy this author’s books and this was no exception. She writes dark troubled heroes with strong fierce heroines that share a powerful bond.
I really like Serra, a woman who knows what she wants and that has always been Fane. There were times when she just about gave up on him, but every once in a while she would try again. This last time she resigns herself to his leaving, only to find when she is in danger he comes to help, although she is happy to have him near, she is confused by his actions.
Fane is all hero, he is a born protector and has all the necessary attributes: tall, strong and tattooed – swoon! Yet the romance between them is interesting, Fane has avoided Serra for years treating her as being off limits no matter how much she tries to entice him. He was all set to leave Valhalla but when Serra disappears he follows and find she is in danger, then bang, he is ready to forgo everything and be with her for eternity – that escalated quickly. However when they do get together, sparks fly and they create some spectacular scenes together and I enjoyed their witty word battles while in bed.
This book is full of interesting secondary characters that have important roles. I am intrigued by Bas, is he truly evil or somewhere in-between with enough secrets and lies to fill his own book? His enforcer, Kaede is also someone who I would like to know more about. Then there is Wolfe and Lana (Mave) there are interesting dynamics between these two. I had no trouble reading this as a standalone, the author does a wonderful job of catching the reader up to speed, but be aware that this story has a lot going on, especially when everyone is trying to find Anna, the mysterious woman who could destroy the world with her powers. With that being said, I find the series could go in many directions, all fabulous.
The pace of the story is fast and intense, we find the hero and heroine are in peril almost from the beginning and we follow them through various twists and turns to the exciting conclusion, and I enjoyed the ride. A wonderful addition to the series and I look forward to more about these Sentinels and their mates.

Fane is a guardian, and one of the strongest and most capable. He has dedicated many years of his life to protecting and being part of the Sentinel’s, and recently has lost a woman he has spent many years protecting when she found love. Now he feels a loss, for the bond between a guardian and the one he protects is powerful, but there is one woman he has always wanted…but he knows he can never have, he knows he is not good enough for her, and plans on returning to the training center…but Serra has different plans. Serra has always loved Fane, and is willing to fight for a chance for them to be together. But she never imagined that what would bring them together, could destroy her. Serra is a powerful telepath, but when she is made to find a lost young girl who has been kidnapped, or die, she knows that she has little choice, and Fane despite his reservation will move heaven and earth to protect her. As Fane and Sherra race against time to find the kidnapped girl, a love erupts between them, and soon they realize they have to fight for that love which hard to hold onto…but will Sherra and Fane lose everything or will they succeed and find a future together…
I will say that Alexandra Ivy has surprised me with this one. I have had the opportunity to read one of her historical paranormal romances..and just loved it, but have never returned to reading her until…now. Even though this is the second book in the series, I was hoping that I wouldn’t be too lost…and I wasn’t. Although I would have loved to have the opportunity to read the first book before reading this one, just to have more background information on Fane and Sherra. There are a lot of issues that Fane is dealing with that I think would be revealed in the first book. But the author does a great job in summarizing Fane and past struggles and the loss of his relationship with the woman he was protecting. Now just so there is no confusion, there was no physical intimacy between them…but what I sensed was more of a strong emotional connection and he protected her for a long time. You see how he struggles with that, and he was such a vibrant yet stubborn hero. I truly adored this hero, but tend to let his pride get in the way of happiness and Sherra. Sherra was just awesome…spirited and feisty, has her own abilities and powers, and she definitely knows how to stand up to Fane. These two had wonderful chemistry, and wowzers…can they heat a room up like fire….you might want a fire extinguisher with you when you read it. And you will want a chance to try this one out…an amazing story that won me over. I read this one in one sitting, there was so much detail and the writing was very stimulating and keeps you from straying from the book. Ivy has a certain unique voice that just captures your attention immediately and it’s near impossible to let go.
As for my overall opinion of this one…well you can never go wrong with the sentinel’s. Sexy warriors who have delectable personalities, sassy heroine to make you want to know more, a plot that is thrilling and one step ahead of the reader, and some fierce desire that develops into a powerful and sexy love story….will thrill you to the core!! Get ready for some shocks, adventures, and some good/bade guys, a bit of a cliffhanger to leave you wanting more, and a wonderful ending that will leave you sighing in full satisfaction. Not one to miss out on.

Fane and Serra have known each other for decades, and he has always used his job as an excuse to keep his distance from her advances. As a Sentinel, Fane spent the past decade as a Guardian to Callie Brown, so when Callie’s bond was transferred to her new husband, Serra makes one last plea to Fane in hopes he’ll finally return her unrequited feelings. However, he remains stoic and instead decides to relocate back to the monastery where he was trained as a Sentinel. That is until Serra is kidnapped, and Fane can no longer keep his feelings for Serra a secret.
After liking but not loving the first book in the Sentinel series by Alexandra Ivy, I was extremely pleased with the sophomore title. Blood Assassin is exciting, sexy, and romantic, just what one hopes for in a paranormal romance. There wasn’t the need for heavy world-building this time around, leaving more room for plot development and the love story.
I was immediately drawn into the story. First, the author does a tremendous job creating an instantaneous emotional connection with the main characters. Ms. Ivy develops a detailed and passionate history, full of longing, lust, and heartache. Knowing the couple has a history and seeing Fane and Serra in Born in Blood creates strong chemistry right from the get go. Yet the couple grows and the relationship deepens over the course of the book. The development of their longing into love is satisfying.
After the author drew me in with emotions, she hooked me with the storyline. Serra, a power telepath, was somehow compelled to leave the safety of Valhalla, and I wanted to know by whom and why! The drama unfolds at just the right pace – quick and action-filled at times, slow and thoughtful at others. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was the mastermind.
In tandem to the primary story, Ms. Ivy gives readers more of Wolfe, the Tagos (leader of all Sentinels) and Lana, the Mave (head of all Vallhalla). Both are respected leaders who place their people’s needs before their own. It’s clear that there is strong sexual attraction and more, yet neither will act on it. Watching the pair work together to save humanity was thrilling and rewarding; I just hope for more in the next book!
In addition, antagonist Bas Cavrilo encompasses all the darkness of a high-blood, giving readers a likeable bad guy. He’s ruthless and cunning, but clearly cares for his own. I’m certain he’ll be around again, especially after the cliffhangerish epilogue, leaving Bas in a precarious situation.
Overall, I really enjoyed Blood Assassin. The plot was interesting and exciting, and I enjoyed the duel story of Fane/Serra and Wolfe/Lana. I only had a few small issues, mostly centering on the mastermind’s motives for their actions. I also enjoyed the ending of the story and the direction the author seems to be taking the series. I look forward to more from The Sentinels.

Alexandra Ivy was a new author to me when I stated this series by reading Born in Blood, which I really enjoyed. I read the next story which happened to be a novella(Out of Control), and thought it was good but not great. Blood Assassin fell just a bit short of really liking it, for me.
These books feature what are known as High Bloods, or paranormal creatures. This group lives in a domed complex named Valhalla, and is ruled by the Mave, a powerful witch. The inhabitants are guarded by Sentinels. Sentinels are men with tattoos all over their body that protect them from magic attacks. Serra is a powerful psychic that has loved Fane, a Sentinel from the minute she first saw him years before. He rebuffs her because he doesn't want her to live worrying about all the danger that he is in on a daily basis. When an incident occurs that isolates them away from Valhalla, and brings them together to work under horrible stress, all bets are off as far as romance.
The premise of this book was good. It had all the elements of romance, danger,and suspense, that I have come to love in paranormal books, and was tied all together with creatures of all different types. The characters were interesting, and even the villains(one in particular) were fully realized, and not just one dimensional as in some books. The romance was sweet, but not in the G rated way, and the sex scenes were extremely hot.
So why wasn't it as good a read for me as the first one? In a word, slow. And I got bored at times when I really shouldn't have. Even the sex scenes after awhile, began to seem like filler at times. I kept putting it down, and honestly I thought I would never finish it. In keeping with the honesty, I should mention that I've had a lot going on, so maybe if I had read it at a different time, I might have enjoyed it more. I can only go by what my experience with the book was, at this time.
I think(hope) the next one features the Mave, as her character is fascinating, so I will probably be reading that one as well. She, and her love interest, had a lesser role to play in this story so we already pretty much know where it's heading. And maybe it would be better if we didn't already know that. The same thing applied to this book as well. Most of the time, I would rather see the couple meet, and then fall in love. Just personal preference for me. So far in this series, all of the couples have known each other before the book starts. Of course there are exceptions to this preference of mine.

Alexandra Ivy was a new author to me when I stated this series by reading Born in Blood, which I really enjoyed. I read the next story which happened to be a novella(Out of Control), and thought it was good but not great. Blood Assassin fell just a bit short of really liking it, for me.
These books feature what are known as High Bloods, or paranormal creatures. This group lives in a domed complex named Valhalla, and is ruled by the Mave, a powerful witch. The inhabitants are guarded by Sentinels. Sentinels are men with tattoos all over their body that protect them from magic attacks. Serra is a powerful psychic that has loved Fane, a Sentinel from the minute she first saw him years before. He rebuffs her because he doesn't want her to live worrying about all the danger that he is in on a daily basis. When an incident occurs that isolates them away from Valhalla, and brings them together to work under horrible stress, all bets are off as far as romance.
The premise of this book was good. It had all the elements of romance, danger,and suspense, that I have come to love in paranormal books, and was tied all together with creatures of all different types. If only he can deny his attraction Serra, a beautiful high-blood with unique gifts! She is the one that can slip beneath his guard and make him forget his plans, his responsibilities.
Serra wants Fane and now that he is no longer Callie’s guardian, she sees no reason why she cannot have him. When Serra approaches Fane and tries to connect with him, he turns her down once again. He is leaving and return to monastery, where he will remain and there is no room for Serra in his plans. Broken hearted that he would leave her, Serra returns to her quarters. Serra finds herself kidnapped and forced into leaving the sanctuary of Valhalla. Will Serra survive the plan her kidnapper has for her? Why do they need her special gift?
As soon as it is known that Serra is missing, Fane goes into warrior mode and follows. He pledges to find her and keep her safe but is that possible? YAY! Fane gets his own book in Born Assassin, which also means he gets a HEA, too. I loved him in the previous book, all silent strength, and stealth...it's always the quiet ones you got to watch out for. Serra is just the prefect opposite of him. And she is TIRED of him denying her. Well there is no denying now once she goes missing from Valhalla. With the help of Callie, he discovers Serra has left and something isn’t right (Don’t mess with a girl’s vintage Louis Vuitton!) and hunts her down. Finding her and thinking he can rescue her away only to find she’s been poisoned by high-blood businessman whose young daughter has kidnapped. He needs Serra’s help finding her and will only reverse the spell once she’s been found.
Woof! This was one busy book! Kidnappings, mysterious high-bloods and one very determined Fane keep the energy level running addictively high. I love when a story is loaded with twisting intrigue. When I think I got it figured out and whoosh! It changes up. Where Fane was the silent deadly type before now he is oozing smexy strength. Serra is no slouch in the brains department either. When Fane finally caves to his wants with Serra, HAWTNESS! However, it wasn’t just the sex that had me going here. It’s all the extras with the continues world building, learning more about high-bloods, and the mystery behind Molly’s disappearance. Great high octane levels all the way around kept me reading this book non-stop.
Gotta love me some secondaries! Wolfe and the Mave… all that smoldering don’t touch heat between them is enough to singe your hair yet I’m hearing way too much duty, honor, and must keep my distance. Someone please tell those two they really need to just get over it and get a room! Bas I initially thought was a jerk but slowly he’s growing on me. I hope to see more of him in the future. Kaede, I bet there’s an interesting story behind him. Once again, the Brotherhood makes its appearance. I dismissed them after the first book just thinking they were filler for the plot. Now I’m not so sure. Hmmm…
I'm kind of new to the Alexandra Ivy bandwagon only have a few books of hers under my belt, but, what I have read has been fairly awesome. Characters with just the right amount of heat and friction between them, plots that aren't easy to predict but great to lose yourself in. Blood Assassin is my debut read for Alexandra Ivy and it will not be my last. I have heard so many good things about this author and I was glad for the opportunity to receive a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Being an avid fan of all things paranormal, I am always looking for stories in that genre, which will keep me on the edge of my seat and have me yearning for more. Blood Assassin did that and more. The story was so intriguing that I went and bought a copy of the previous book in the series. (NB Blood Assassin can be read as a stand-alone).
The story centres on Fane, (a sentinel) and Serra (a psychic and telepath). These two have been in love with each other from the moment they met. However, Fane was determined to keep his distance as he felt that giving in to his feelings would complicate his duty as a sentinel. Serra tried everything to get him to admit his feelings, but he refused to budge. His determination to keep his distance led to his decision to leave Valhalla. However, his plans for departure were disrupted when Serra was forced to help save a kidnapped child. What followed is a story of intrigue, action, drama sprinkled with some hot and sexy romance.
The characters in their own way were awesome, but the ones that stood out for me were Fane and Serra. Fane is the strong, silent type. Fane was raised under a strict and stringent regime which taught him to keep his feelings under control. This, however, did not stop him from loving Serra. His love for her is so profound that he will gladly give his life to keep her from harm. I like stories where the female heroine is portrayed as being strong and independent with a sweet and sexy side. As a result, I was immediately drawn to Serra. She is not afraid to go after what she wants and this includes Fane.
The romance was hot and the action non-stop. The story is fast paced it held my attention to the end. The story ended well, but based on events it’s clear that there is next book in the making and I can’t wait to get my hands on it when it is released.

Fane is a guardian, he used to be guardian for a high-blood Callie (heroine of Born in Blood) which involves sharing a bond but when she found love the bond ended. Fane feels a bit adrift and he decides that since he isn’t a guardian to Callie anymore he should be a trainer for younger sentinels, leaving the Valhalla. Fane was uber protective, fierce, and a bit of loner.
Serra is a high blood, a very powerful psychic and telepath at that. She helps catch criminals and find missing children. Serra has been pinning for fane for twenty something years. Alas the guy doesn’t want to take the chance at a relationship. I though was intelligent, strong and beautiful but on the other hand I felt like she forgive too easily.
When Serra’s abilities to find a missing child put her in danger, Fane finally admitting his feelings for Serra at least to himself, decides to go help her.
Fane and Serra they were basically like a couple from the get go. This is because they have known each other a long while. They were comforting, trying to cheer each other up, fighting with each other and always trying protect each other. Which to be honest I thought was sweet.
World building has kind of dystopian/urban fantasy feeling to it, at least to me it did and I did enjoy that.
Quibbles: I Needed a bit more romance or development or a progression maybe since I understand that they had known each other for 20 odd years but I huvn’t so I needed a bit more to feel how much they felt for each other. Does that make any sense?
I was left with a few question regarding Bas and Myst. What happened to her? Why did she leave their child to Base and disappeared. Bas was like one of those asshole heroes you couldn’t help feel for even though you know they have clearly done bad things and aren’t exactly the good guys.
I really want a book for Wolfe and Lana/The Mave. They both seem very interesting. Their scenes left me wanting more *sigh*.
Overall, I Enjoyed it , it was quite good and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. Happy Reading!

I received a free copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. About 4.5 stars.
We met Fane and Serra in the previous book, and while it was clear that there was some chemistry between them, definitely on Serra's part and more subtly on Fane's part, Serra's attempts to chase down the aloof Fane has been unsuccessful for the past decade. It's difficult to imagine that a sultry, badass, magically powerful beauty like Serra, who seems to be able to turn every Sentinel's head in Valhalla, has not been able to get Fane to even notice her. Clearly something is going on with Fane, and I was anxious to discover what has been holding him back.
The book starts about where the first book left off, after the Guardian bond between Fane and Callie has been severed. I felt that this book's description was a bit misleading because it makes it seem like Fane was in love with Callie and she chose another, and he does not want to get involved and risk his heart again. Not sure why they wrote the description like that, but Fane has only felt brotherly and protective towards Callie as his charge. I feel that this book attempted to explain why Fane has kept his distance from Serra all this time, but I felt the explanation was a little limp.
I do like the way Fane and Serra are forced to work together in this book, and I enjoyed their adventure. The plot was solid, and the introduction of a few new characters definitely made me want to continue reading this series. I really liked Fane and Serra together as a couple even though Fane's reasons for keeping Serra at bay were a little lame. I get it when he was focused on Callie and keeping her safe as his duty as a Guardian, but once their bond was severed, to me that should have been open hunting season on Serra. Ultimately though, they work out their issues and I'm happy with the conclusion.

After seeing the build up of tension between Serra and Fane in the previous book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. There's just something to be said about strong sexual tension that leaves the characters in opposition. While I wouldn't say these two were quite enemies to lovers (my favorite trope), the way they interacted had the same feel, so I loved it. I especially enjoyed the flip flop in roles once Serra gives up on chasing Fane, and he in turn realizes that he has to have her after all. She sure gives him a run for his money and I couldn't help rooting for her.
In addition to the steamy and addictive romance aspects, BLOOD ASSASSIN has one heck of a plot. So many times the romance in a PNR will overshadow the plot, and while I still enjoy those books, there's just something to be said about a really strong plot as well. It kept me completely hooked to the story right from the start, making for an addictive read. Speaking of addictive, it really says something when you enjoy the villain as much as the hero. In fact, as the next book looks to feature him, I'm sure it's going to be every bit as good.
This series is shaping up to be a really impressive addition to the genre. From strong romance with a great main couple, strong characters, and one heck of a plot, BLOOD ASSASSIN is sure to please fans of Paranormal Romance, especially those who like just as much action as romance. Seriously a great read!
