The My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror Complete Series Bundle is 6 Full Books of Magic Academy LitRPG adventure about a yong man who accidentally summons a mysterious monster during his studies of magic.
Damien nearly ended the world. Now, his mistake might be the only thing that can save it.
Good things come to those who wait. Damien Vale didn’t, and he ended up bound to an Eldritch creature from beyond the reaches of space. It has lived since the dawn of time, seen the world born and destroyed countless times, and wants to be called Henry.
Unusual companion or not, Damien was still determined to go to a mage college and study magic. He wants nothing more than to live normal life as a researcher, but if Henry’s true nature is revealed, he’ll be killed.
To top it all off, Damien’s teacher is a madman from the front lines of war, his alcoholic dean suspects something is awry with his companion, and Blackmist might possibly be the worst school in history. Damien has to prevent the end of the world, but he isn’t even sure he’s going to make it through Year One at Blackmist.
Experience this special edition box set of a LitRPG Series in a magic school setting. A slow build power fantasy from Actus, the bestselling author of Return of the Runebound Professor. It's perfect for fans of Cradle, Iron Prince, and Mage Errant.
Actus has been writing fantasy stories since the age of twelve, and he's been telling them since he could talk. He's currently working on three main series - Morcster Chef, Steamforged Sorcery, and My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror. You can find his works on RoyalRoad & Patreon as well as on Amazon.
In addition to his passion for writing, Actus is capable of clearing a two story building with a single jump. That isn't true, but writing about himself in third person gives Actus delusions of grandeur.
Tons of action, romance, politics, intrigue and LOTS of action! I enjoyed the twist ending and all the memorable characters. That’s actually what I loved the most - the cast of characters. Very few were throwaway and they all had their purpose and were important aspects of the plot. If you love this type of RPG literature, you can’t go wrong!
My Best Friend Is an Eldritch Horror is another LITRPG by Vault comics and I am loving these books! This book has our MC named Damien Vale. Damien is a young man who is looking forward to studying magic at a mage college, even though he is 4 years too short to attend. I love the authors writing style of this book, I was engaged from the first page as soon as I started to read this one. I love that there are illustrations in this book to follow the story too, it makes the story much more enjoyable to the readers. Damien does something very stupid and brings forth a weird creature from the void who claims it wants to be his companion. Damien is too young to understand that he has done something wrong or had he? That ending leaves you wanting to know what happened to both Damien and Henry and how things turned out the way that they did. Sounds interesting right? Well... You need to read and find out everything!
I read The Return of the Runebound Professor by the same author, binged the rest of the series, loved it, and decided to checkout the author's other work starting with this.
That...may have been a mistake. This series seems nothing like the Runebound Professor to the extent I had to double check that they're the same author, and I didn't really care for it.
I might have liked it more if I wasn't expecting something else, but as it stands I bounced fairly hard. Perhaps I'll give it another try in the future.
Interesting premise, but the writing and characters just didn't grip me.
The world-building and plot were well done. I enjoyed the gradual release of mysteries related to the new little universe Actus created.
I have noticed in this author's stories that there are a lot of fairly flat, stock characters and most of the protagonists' development focuses on new relationships or powers instead of personality. However, the vibrant world and more varying supporting characters make up for it.
I picked this up after reading some of the authors other books. The fact that this series was completed and available as a single item was also very enticing. Without spoilers; the series is a great little read. The world the author built is much larger than what is in the book and I have no doubts that they could revisit it at any time. If they do; I’ll be picking that up as well!
To be honest it started a little slow at first and I was not sure if I would finish listening to it, but I glad I kept going. I loved the true power couple as they got stronger even though they were not your typical couple, but they help others above everything. I loved the teacher and the companion, they were both extremely funny.
While I feel this series definitely leaned away from the LitRPG side of things as it progressed. It was still a wonderful read, a climactic finish, and worth the time spent reading it.
Some of the usual cliches, but still very well done. Great development, decent worldbuilding, and a good plot, not just in the individual stories but also overall.
As a hopeless millennial the phrases "They're room mates Herald! and That kills people Henry!" came to mind every few chapters and had me cackling. That ending plot twist was superb!
