Fixed oils play a large part in most all commercial beauty treatments. Power of the Seed offers instruction on how to use these oils to create topical skin care, cosmetics, and massage oils. Additionally, Susan M. Parker presents advice and in-depth information on the different types, sources, uses, and structures of these precious oils. Over ninety rare and common oils are comprehensively treated, along with suggestions on how readers can use them to create their own original "recipes." Power of the Seed is the newest release of Process Media's popular Self-reliance Series that presents important DIY information in a visually enhanced easy-to-read and understand manner. Susan M. Parker is the owner and founder of Solum & Herbe, a skincare company that uses a wide range of natural oils to create nourishing, natural personal care products.
Captivating! When my book club chose this book I was not interested at all. I thought what differences could oils really have they are all oils... Little did I know! Now my fixed oil collection is growing as much as my essential oil collection. I am able to create much more effective formulations. My skin has never looked better! If you are serious about learning how to formulate products and get the best healing benefits from essential oil blends by choosing the right fixed oil to blend it with there is no better resource than this book!
Susan M. Parker's Power of the Seed is the first book of its kind. When so much is written about essential oils, Power of the Seed delves deeply into the fixed lipid oils (aka "carrier oils") that are vital ingredients in skin care, cooking, art, medicine, and industry.
In the world of Aromatherapy, the lipid oils are often given a backstage to essential oils. Perhaps after understanding how powerful these lipid plant carrier oils are, they will be given center stage rights along with the aromatic essential oils.
Power of the Seed should be a well-thumbed reference in every Aromatherapist and Skin Care Formulator's library.
Susan has done a fantastic job of converting a whole new generation of DIYers into lovers of a wide array of lipids. This book is presented in an accessible format with beautiful artwork and I feel truly represents the science and art of working with fatty oils and butters.
I am very impressed with this book on several levels! Firstly, Susan Parker is extremely knowledgeable and she presents her knowledge in a way that is very understanable for the average person without dumbing down the material. The book is set up so the reader can find oils by: use, applications, source, fatty and composition, sap values, botanical families, and more! So, it can be used as an in depth read or as a quick reference for info. I admit that I am one of the women who jumped on the DIY beauty bandwagon this past year and I will never go back to spending $100+ on skincare products a month! When I first started researching how to DIY beauty products I was overwhelmed by the amount of info on the internet and the differing opinions of the expert bloggers on materials/recipes, etc. Ms. Parker takes away all of the confusion and saves you valuable time and considerable frustration because her book is comprehensive, easy to read, and explains why/how the materials combine and work together. Power of the Seed is a MUST HAVE book if you want to make your own skincare products or even if you just want to know what is in your current beauty products and why they are there.
