Beautiful examination of this famous speech...there are many wounds that our country needs to hear now - Lincoln still has much to teach us today. It seems as if we have come full circle - malice twords all - who don't agree with our political views. Books like this may help us see the dangerous path we are now on.

Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural address has been revered as one of the greatest speeches given by an American for nearly 150 years. Given during the waning days of the Civil War, Lincoln laid out the causes and effects of the war in beautiful, soaring terms unlike anything that is produced by today's politicians. The beauty of the speech was immediately recognized, Frederick Douglass declared that the speech "was a sacred effort." While the speech failed as an inaugural address, Abraham Lincoln failed to provide any details on the plans his administration had for the Reconstruction that would bring the southern states back into the Union and the place the four million freed slaves now had in the Union. Lincoln, in my opinion can be forgiven this oversight, and likely if the speech had rambled on and on detailing dry policy it would have quickly been forgotten like the majority of presidential inaugural addresses.

Jack E. Levin's beautiful book, With Malice Toward None: Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, perfectly illustrates why Lincoln's address has survived the test of time. The address is faithfully reproduced along with images and drawings from the Civil War era that where carefully chosen by Levin. The images selected by Levin, a professional artist, perfectly highlights Lincoln's words. In an era when newspapers where just starting to include images, Lincoln used his words to paint the images he wanted to convey, a fact that is illustrated in Levin's book. The book presents Lincoln's address with the illustrations and then again at the end in its original format with Lincoln's spelling and paragraph break.

With Malice Toward None is a wonderful volume that can be enjoyed by all ages. A wonderful introduction to Lincoln for young readers, though some may struggle with fully understanding what Lincoln was trying to understand making this the perfect book for parents and children to read together and discuss what they take from Lincoln's words as Lincoln wrote his address to be read out loud. Levin's beautiful book will be cherished in family library's for years to come.

What a wonderful tribute this is. Mr. Levin has orchestrated this small masterpiece by linking Civil War era photographs and images with the compelling words of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address was concise and to the point, utilizing marvelous words rather than drowning his audience in useless verbiage. Script writers of our modern day should take note; less is often more.

My hat is off to Mr. Levin for providing the reader with a suitable framework for Lincoln's amazing address. This book will have timeless appeal. Thank you, Sir.

This is an excellent little book about the importance of Lincoln's second inaugural address. It has beautiful artistry and pictures and the full text of the speech. "Malice for none; charity for all..."

"Mr. Lincoln, it was a sacred effort." -Frederic Douglass. These words of Lincoln's second inaugural address are indeed sacred and this treatment of them is well done and should reside in most home libraries.

(Before I say anything else, I must say the preface could have been much shorter, as in not existed at all.)

Such a powerful book packed into a few pages. The speech is arguably one of the greatest, most concise inaugural speeches in our nation's history - delivered by our (NOT arguably, he just is, sorry I'm not sorry) greatest president. The illustrations throughout were beautifully crafted and everyone should read these powerful words and be reminded that the sacrifices of the Civil War should never be forgotten. Without them, our nation might never have become whole again.

A very short book of about 60+ pages, Jack E. Levin presents the text of Lincoln's second Inaugural address. Each page of the book presents part of the speech along with photographs and illustrations from the Civil War era. Considered by many to be Lincoln's greatest speech, Levin presents it in the context of what was happening at the time and what may have influenced the President.

Several months after delivering the address Lincoln was shot, the man who killed him, John Wilkes Booth was actually among the crowd that heard this speech. The conspiracy already well underway.

I ordered a limited edition signed copy of Malice Toward None. The book is beautiful and makes me wish that I could have learned history in this way during school. It draws you in and makes you interested to know more. Whereas most of history classes in school just run dates, names and events across you in a rather dull fashion.

The illustrations and period-photos are great. The font is interesting too.

What a lovely little book! The father of my idol, Mark Levin, truly outdid himself with this pretty little thing. Abraham Lincoln's best speech is set out in the best of ways, with plenty of colorful photographs, drawings, and illustrations to go with it. A must-have for the bookshelf of any Mark Levin, Jack Levin, or American history fan.:)

These are the words of a man who truly loved this country. My heart aches to see how far this country has strayed from our foundation of freedom and love of country.
Wake up America before it's too late! Lincoln understood why it was so important to preserve this country! Do you?

This is a concise book into the history of the Second Inaugural Address. I found the writing and visuals to be a great explanation of the feel of the time period. With those for a bent for studying history this is a great book in which to gain an understanding of this event.

President Lincoln's second inaugural address is a must read for all Americans. Author Jack E. Levin masterfully intertwined Lincoln's words with photos/drawings of the times, which greatly enhance and add real introspection to the overall meaning of the speech. This book truly pays homage to President Lincoln's finest speech.

Fantastic look at Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, considered by himself to be his best speech. The commentary and photos in this book add to the wise words given at what was an intense time for a war-weary country. Every word was precise and meaningful and solemn. We loved studying it and the man who wrote it.

This was a beautiful representation of Lincoln’s second inaugural speech. The illustrations tied in perfectly and made me want to read on.

This book also makes me want to read more about Lincoln. I think he would be a fascinating individual to learn about.
