This year of his high school career might not have been any different if it weren't for him: Kiyoi, the most beautiful and kingly man Hira has ever seen. Normally, their lives would never intersect, but Hira suddenly gets a chance to grow closer with Kiyoi when he's made the popular group's gofer and gets Kiyoi's phone number! Hira treasures every order Kiyoi gives him and every bit of change he's handed to run errands... Is this what they call love?

This volume was depressing as hell but I am actually starting to enjoy this series. XD (Maybe because now the leads grew up and are attending college.)

I'm realizing this is turning into a slow-burn romance. Still toxic AF that the one guy keeps calling the other "gross" while egging him on, but I am getting hooked for real now.

We get to know Hira without the object of his obsession and for a time, he’s started to seem less manic. But as soon as he sees a flash of Kiyoi in a commercial and then surprisingly as a guest star in a play, Hira turns back into the same person.

I don’t like his character when Kiyoi is around at all. Some people should not be around other people that bring out the worst in them.

Hira has graduated from highschool and has finally made friends who understand him but unfortunately his obsession with Koyoi over rides his desire to be accepted by his peers and have an ordinary social life.
I wish Hira would choose Koyama since he is a fairly decent person who loves and accepts Hira despite his condition and awkwardness.

My review is definitely not objective nor helpful to anyone wanting to read it, but I'm just so emotionally attached to the series. I love it. And I mean it.

Oh man, I was not expecting the Koyama stuff to make me cry this time around.

Kiyoi's interest in Hira also feels So Incredibly Obvious, and the "see you" scene is less impactful here...Hira's understanding of the different types of "goodbye" aren't explained enough, so it really makes very little sense for Kiyoi to literally kiss him and for Hira to interpret that as Kiyoi never wanting to see or speak to him again.

So as a manga-only piece I don't think that bit worked. But. The rest of this volume was handled so well that it was still 5 stars for me. The thing I really like about this series is that the high school component is not the majority of their story. It's where they meet, but they both have time and space to grow individually once they start college and gain other interests and, in Hira's case, legitimate friends. That's really, really important, and makes Hira's obsession with Kiyoi less...terrible, I guess.

I like, too, that while Koyama asks Hira a few times why he's in love with a guy who's that rude to him, he does also understand that sometimes you can't explain what it is that makes you love a person. And you can't stop just because you know it's wrong for you.

Hira's gentleness with Koyama, mixed with frustration over being trapped in a friendship he feels guilty about, is so effective and really helps to show more of Hira's personality and growth, too. He's not oblivious; while he hero-worshipped Kiyoi, it didn't mean he was stupid or unaware of how regular human emotions and relationships work. Once he knows that Koyama has a one-sided crush on him, he tries to figure out a way to create space between them so he won't hurt someone he had been considering a friend...and then struggles, over time, with whether to let go of his big epic unachievable love to date someone who is kind and fun to be with and who loves him.

But when Kiyoi explodes back into his life, all that searing attachment floods right back in, and Hira doesn't have eyes for anyone else anymore.

Is it logical? Is it good for him? No. Is the chemistry intensely effective? Yeah.

Very much looking forward to more of the manga, but I'll dive back into the light novels now in hopes that I'll feel more of this renewed attachment to the characters.

I would give it a 3.5/5– I really wish we could give half stars.

Anyways… OUCH?!?! Like brO????

That hurt me in so many different places! That shouldn’t be okay!!! UGH HE WAS ALMOST HAPPY DAMN IT😭

This is so criminal. BUT— I’m starting to like the series more now…I’m not a fan of high school plots, so now that they are adults and in college, it’s a lot easier for me to read. Also the bullying and stuff in volumes 1-2 made it really hard for me to read because I hate when people fall for someone that treats them like shite. Like, I get that’s the whole premise…I just wish he was a little more human about it and less 2-dimensional, yanno?? Like, he’s a cutie for sure— but he is in desperate need of some self-love. Yanno?

Ouch. I mean…wow. That one stung quite a bit though.

This series remains pretty rough. Hira's emotions go to the extreme, but only when it comes to Kiyoi. Otherwise, he's comes across as fairly apathetic. He finds somewhat of a normal life finally when he moves on to college, joining the photography club and even finding friends who understand his disability. That all seems to be at risk of shattering when he unexpectedly runs into Kiyoi again. Kiyoi retains his indifferent attitude, but he seems oddly extra aware of when Hira is around, and doesn't seem to have like him having a boyfriend that isn't him. Kiyoi appears to have a strange way of trying to keep him around yet at arms distance at the same time. After finally having someone healthy and happy to compare to, it makes it seem even stranger that Hira is so fixated on Kiyoi.

I really love the way this is written, but I still don't know how to feel about the series overall. It's so toxic and messy and juicy. Hira is an obsessed weirdo and Kiyoi is a dick and I feel so bad for Koyama because he's being strung by their weird ass relationship. Hira and Koyama were actually so adorable I'm bummed it didn't work out, but I get why it didn't. I'm excited for the next volume. This is definitely something I'll want to revisit when it's complete to fully soak in everything that's going on with these characters and their relationship.

One of my favorite series of all time. Yes it's a bit toxic and messy but it's also beautiful and makes you have to step outside of your normal way of thinking to understand these characters and their actions. I love the drama for this series and I'm enjoying getting to relive it through the manga, I'll never get enough of these characters and their complexities.

When I started reading the novel series last year, I really didn't expect for it to become my third favorite version of this story, but alas... the drama and the manga adaptation are just so good...

I love the manga version of this story; I love all the moments of stillness and nothing and I love getting to see flickers of Kiyoi's emotions through his cold beauty.

Hira and Kiyoi graduate in the first part of the story, which ends with Kiyoi kissing Hira unexpectedly then walking away. I found this a bit sudden and weird, with Kiyoi asking Hira if there was anything he wanted to say, then kissing him out of the blue, and just walking away. It felt awkward and forced on Kiyoi's part.

Hira goes to college, only to discover that Kiyoi became a model then an actor. He's got a new friend, Koyama who is gay, and fancies Hira. They actually almost start dating until Kiyoi appears out of nowhere to ruin everything. It's a shame, because Hira was actually learning how to be a normal person and Koyama was a really nice person.

I REALLY don't understand why Hira is still infatuated with Kiyoi. IMO, Hira is an idiot. I felt so sorry for Koyama, who was so much better for him and a much nicer person. Kiyoi is unrelentingly distant, selfish, jealous and a possessive ass.
