The Moral Line, an erotic romance novel by Vanessa Bogenholm, opens reader’s eyes to the world of high end escorts and the men who frequent them.
After being rejected and left alone, Alexandria, finds herself going down a moral line. Slightly desperate for money, she takes a one-time ‘job’ as a paid for companion by a not so attractive but very nice wealthy man. Is getting paid to be in the company of men really such a bad thing if it feels good? She falls into a world of clients that are wealthy, powerful, successful men with fancy cars and country club lifestyles. But she sees the fragility in all of these men, the loneliness and need for acceptance that is the human condition.
Alexandria becomes ‘Catherine’, a high-end escort with a beautiful laugh who finds the goodness and attractiveness in all men, falling in love with all of her clients just a little. By accepting these men and seeing the goodness in them, she pleases these men in many ways. Is it possible by pleasing others maybe Alexandria can find her true self and find happiness?
This was a ride for Alexandria too the main character in this book in more ways than one *wink*
I was approached by the author to ask if I would like to read this book. Its books I will read in and out [forgive the pun] if they are written well, this one is written well, all except the CAPITALS that sometimes the author uses, its just not needed. Emphasis can come without the CAPITAL SHOUTINGS, just one annoying thing that I got from it. Its minor, but annoying.
Alexandria has nowhere to turn really once her relationship hits rock bottom. We can see who she ends up down the wrong path. Sometimes she hates it, and at other times she seems to love what she does.
We get to meet lots of different types of men who 'use' her business.
I personally found it a straight forward read, no really bad moments of me wanting to put the book down. I did feel I was in a brothel at times and I did get bored with the sex.......here we go again.... type of thing but, I reminded myself of why this was in the book soooooo much because its what this character did. It was her wages, her bread and butter.
The ending was pretty cool.
*My thanks to the author for allowing me to read and give my POV on*
This book starts in such a way that you feel instantly connected to the main character, Alexandria. As a reader I love reading first person narrative. Most of my favorite books are written that way and The Moral Line is solidly added to the list of my all time favorites.
Alexandria has been through a lot emotionally, and you really feel for her. When, THANKFULLY, she decides to get rid of her deadbeat husband you can't help but feel like one of your good friends just left an abusive relationship. Her life takes a turn she never expected. She has a chance to become a high end escort. She decides to give it a try and becomes *Catherine*. Could this be exactly what she needs to finally be happy?
Very very good erotic story. What makes it stand out is the amazing story-line it has. I will definitely be telling all of my friends about this one!
This was well written but she is so whiny about her life and letting people walk all over her. She finally starts feeling sexy but it comes as a price of becoming a prostitute. The beginning annoyed me because all she did was talk about how she tried to please her husband just to have her get so angry she beats him and have him leave. The rest of the beginning was her being really shallow. She is all about looks and money in her head but tries to not let it show on the outside. The rest of the book is how much sex she has and if the guy is hot or not or anything like that.
I received this from Goodreads First Reads. This is not usually the genre of books I go for but it was surprisingly well written and enjoyable to read. Alexandra is an attractive women with cheerful personality. She gets a divorce from her husband and then becomes an escort to support herself. There, she learn to understand the needs of her clients and gets to know herself a bit more. Overall, it was a nice book to read and would recommend it.
Moral Lines: Because Who Doesn't Love a Juicy Prostitute Escort Novel?
First Sentence:My husband had this little patch of soft, slightly reddish hair right above his tailbone.
Excuse me while pictures of wolf man dance in my head.
*shudders*
At first I was thinking, tail bone. Where the heck is that? Then I realized where it was and I literally wanted to throw up. Tail bone, was this guy the second picture on the evolution chart? After picturing the Caveman Geico insurance man in my bed I read on.Okay, guys I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I was to review this copy. My mind danced from vampires, to urban romance because of the black, white and red cover. In Moral Lines by Vanessa Bogenholm we are given the pleasure of meeting Alexandria , the women who tried Botox to keep her husband and misses hr husband. We are suddenly invited to join her downward freaky spiral of god knows what. It slapped me in the face like a glove to the cheek, one day this women wakes up one day and is like damn, I am an escort.
The question is, how did she get there!
Who is the Main Character? Alexandria is witty, sarcastic caterer and bold recent divorcee who had the whole "god, my life sucks, I know it, I hate it. Now shut up and let me complain" thing going on. But do not worry my friends she is not complaining in the whole stupid unique "I am Bella Swan. My life reeks like hell , woe is I" sort of way. Alexandria is sarcastic character who has lived in Beverly Hills but never rarely fit in or afford it.
Plots Galore: In the book we meet the horrible husband of Alexandria and experience the cold rejection that leaves her and you shattered. We feel her pain and her destructive. Ever had a husband , girlfriend or boyfriend lose interest in you? Then you can relate to this book. Bogenholm has nailed the turmoil that shoots through your mind when being rejected by a mate. It's so clear and crackling with emotion like popcorn over a hot stove.
I almost teared up.
This story is like the demise to rebound story, a recent divorcee women suddenly in need of money starts doing tasks to pay small things like her rent. We watch Alexandria fall and we watch her rise while being offered the most ravishing erotic lovemaking scenes that can make any gal melt. Those scenes are delish I must tell you! Let me stop drooling! Alexandria goes deeper and deeper into the escort world and she begins to do things that may be against her morals or so she thinks. You will find yourself living through her and clapping through the novel.
Settings: Hotels, apartments, Beverly Hills , Hallways. Oh yes and beds , what girl does not love that! We meet lots of beds in this novel.
Who Will You Meet? All types of men.
DISCLAIMER: I am a huge historical fiction fan but Alexandria's voice was so freaking compelling, I was reading this narrative like candy.
Content: Cursing, lots of descriptive sex. Drinking and smoking. This is an adult novel and a darn fun one. So get out your wine and start to read Moral Lines.
The ending was abrupt and rushed and confusing to say the least bit. She just changed her ways, I wish it wasn't that easy. The ending was abrupt and confusing and I got lost. George's character was random and not threaded through the story so he threw me off a bit. If you love escorts and alter egos you will love this novel. This is no literary novel, just a quick read if you aren't looking for substance.
Alexandria is a good person! She is on her third marriage and loves her husband dearly. What seems like to her, all of the sudden he is disgusted with her and wants nothing to do with her. He files for divorce and Alexandria is left with her dogs.
She hates her job and is depressed over her latest ex. She has been very successful in most of her job adventures, however, something always happens to knock her down. She winds up trying out being an escort. The money is good and she considers it easy money. Ingrid witnesses her with a client and approaches her to come work for her and Alexandria accepts. She has a new name...Catherine. She gains quite the client list quickly!
Alexandria develops a friendship with George and he knows her as Alexandria. Most clients know her as Catherine. George is such a nice man with a family (his oldest son is an FBI agent and thinks his dad is into some shady business and wants nothing to do with him).
Alexandria does things for her community (provides the homeless with socks, sweatshirts and sometimes food), she teaches seniors and kids. Is she crossing that moral line with being a high paid escort? She struggles with that one!
But in the long run "Catherine" teaches "Alexandria" how to be a confident woman and many other things that she just couldn't figure out until she became an escort. Her clients, unbeknownst to them, taught/showed her. Everyone loves to have someone care about them, right? They taught her more than they'll ever know.
I liked how she did care about each and every client she had. To me, the sex in this book, even though she was essentially a hooker, wasn't like what I have in my mind hooker sex would be. This was a good book and I did enjoy everything, except the ending. I was yelling at my kindle...THAT'S IT?? I was not happy at all! I understand why it ended the way it did, but WHY did it end so abruptly!?
The Moral Line by Vanessa Bogenholm is one journey readers won't ever forget. A woman who loves her husband and loves being intimate with him...then to lose it all. Her life then spirals into an unknown place. How will she survive? Then life takes an interesting route and she finds a way to keep her feet firmly on the ground and her head up. Catering to men to support one's self is a risky business. It can be challenging and difficult. Especially, when some men attract one's heart to them. Lines can be blurred. Hearts can be worn out until there's nothing left.
The Moral Line shows readers an inside glimpse into love's good and bad sides. Readers especially women will see the fragile side of men. Men can be violent and cruel. Sometimes bitter and this can change a woman. A woman just like Alexandria. At first love was good then went sour. This story is one adventure that will leave readers breathless and intrigued. Every page will lure readers deeper into its irresistible plot. The one remarkable strong going woman like Alexandria give women hope. Hope that they can carry on when life gives them lemons. Overall, I highly recommend this well-written story to readers everywhere. Vanessa Bogenholm is a talented writer whose words can persuade any reader to her fictional masterpiece.
The only thing interesting in this book is Alexandria's relationship with George and that doesn't really start being discussed until page 171. It should have been mentioned all through the book to make their friendship believable.
Not a lot in this book is believable though. What guy would try to convince a hooker that he is clean? Pretty sure it would be the other way around. And how does she not know the age or the guys or that she is going to her bosses house?! Her pimp (Ingrid) does background checks.
Alexandria is not that likable of a character either. She's annoying. She whines about her feelings then is on top of the world and thinks she is gods gift to men. She should be spending her money on a shrink instead of tennis lessons.
The book is too repetitive. How many times do we need to hear things? The book was drawn out by the repetitiveness to make it a novel. There were many mistakes too. And punctuation is important in writing a book.
Didn't like the book at all until George but then found the ending strange.
I enjoyed this book and found it interested to read from the view of a struggling woman who learns that her husband no is no longer inlove with her, then how her life changes once she becomes an escort, completely by accident.
I did find the book quite repetitive which was slightly annoying, for example, at the beginning of the book she would keep referring to her husband as her husband and not his name, but over and over just repeated "my husband" in the first chapter, I also noticed that Vanessa also kept referring to her dogs as being "her rescue dogs, Alice, my last rescue" when really all she needed to refer to them as her dogs, or by their names - readers would have realised they were her rescue dogs from the first time it was mentioned.
Other than that, I did find the book a good read and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading adult romance :)
Alexandria was a wine expert. She also had a day job. She had been married a couple of years and on her third husband when she finally kicked him out after he rejected her and slept on the couch. She had been in financial crisis for a while, when a man asked her to go to a party as his date and he'd pay her. The story talks of Alexandria form a failed marriage to the ins and outs of a call girl. I have to admit I didn't think I'd like this story at first but as the story went on it became more interesting. It was very interesting to see how she reacts to all the different situations in her life. I really liked the characters, plot and overall story. I recommend to anyone that likes this genre. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.
This book was an easy read. This is definitely erotica - so be aware that there is sexual content here. The book mostly focuses on developing the character of Alexandria and her journey of personal discovery she embarks on after her marriage falls part, with quite a few sexual adventures along the way. Outside of Alexandria, most of the other characters aren't really well developed. The text itself could have benefited from a stronger editorial touch (and typo correction), but the story itself was enjoyable and it was entertaining. The ending was a bit awkward and abrupt, but it didn't detract too much from the book overall.
The Moral Line is beautifully crafted. In many ways, I’d say the escort in this story exhibits the highest moral character of all. Alexandria tries desperately to save her marriage, experiencing a profound rejection. She is triumphant over adversity, and displays a passion for life and inner strength. She doesn’t judge others harshly, but looks for the best in everyone. A reoccurring message in this book is that we’re all just looking for love and acceptance. This book has moments of tenderness and raw emotion. An interesting and thought-provoking read. Highly recommend!
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book had great potential. However, towards the end it felt like the author ran out of time and just ended the book. There were also grammatical errors and I felt like the book was incomplete.
I would read/buy a future book by the author because I liked her ideas and I was left wanting more. I'm hoping for a part 2 or an expansion of the ending.
I really liked this book a lot. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The only thing I was not a fan of and kept me from giving 5 stars is the overuse of the words gosh and moral. The character questions her morals completely through the book and it got a little annoying to me.
DNF at 50% I try my hardest to read ARCs the whole way through but I had to put this down, it was starting to annoy me and I didn't see it getting any better from here. It wasn't bad I just didn't enjoy it, I found it to have no plot and I couldn't connect with our MC on any level.
I did enjoy this book - at times I felt that the extensive sex detracted from the story, but it acted as a reminder the gritty, repetitive reality of prostitutes.
