I'm a reasonably smart, pretty well-read guy, and I dont think I'm lazy, at least not in my reading habits. But Shulman sent me to a dictionary six times, and that was just in the forward/introduction. And 100 pages in, he could not make me care about Rudolph Valentino enough to want to finish. Life's too short.
There are some slower passages in this book, but I found it to be an enjoyable read. Rudolph Valentino had an interesting life, and Irving Shulman did a great job exploring it and writing about the industry at the time.
