Lost In The Dark

I’m so disappointed. All of Kerry Taylor’s books are basically the same foundation, but besides two minor details it’s the exact same plot down to the littlest things as her Perpetually Broken series. i had thought at first it would deviate, but it just continued to get more and more similar.

I've read most (if not all) of Taylor's work but this one made me uncomfortable... and not for the reasons you may think..
I thought I could get past it but the way Addy and her brothers act towards each other is super weird.
For context, I have FIVE brothers... some older some younger.. some I grew up with AND some I didn't.
The scene where she crawled in her brothers lap... kinda weird but she is traumatized and comfortable with him so okay..
"Asher lifting me into his arms. He sat on the chair I'd been in and settled me in his lap, pulling me against his chest, then resuming the stroking of his hand up and down my back." pg. 55 Maybe it's just how it's written but it just feels SUPER weird...
But later on when she just got out of the shower and is only in a towel and her brother comes to her room and they sit down and have a conversation... nope. No freaking way. They are adults and she has been sexually assaulted but is hanging out naked with her brother that she doesn't even know? As someone with a lot of brothers... I wouldn't be comfortable hanging out in a towel in front of ANY of them.. ever. ESPECIALLY the ones I didn't grow up with honestly. But really can't imagine any of them seeing me in a towel. period. And it's not a sexual thing... it's just plain freaking weird.
What finally made me quit was her brother lifting her chin with his finger. This is a book boyfriend move... if my brother tried to gently touch my face like that I would probably gag.
I actually thought that maybe one of the brothers wasn't REALLY her brother but I looked ahead at the descriptions in later books and it looks like he is soooo nope.

Very dark
I appreciate an author writing a book that's cathartic for them, I'm assuming so because it did pull on my heartstrings as it was realistic. Thing is though, as much as what she went through was absolutely horrible there does need to be an actual plot. I can see how there are 3 books to the series, the retelling and shock value scenes are pretty much all of book 1.
The heroine is severely traumatised, I don't see her characterisation changing anytime soon. Rightly so.
I don't get anything out of reading someone's misery so even the thought of book 2 is too much for me. I'm firmly a fiction kind of reader, real life needs a bit of magic.

Good writing but too repetitive
SPOILERS HERE: I really loved how she presented the topic with care even though it’s a hard topic for a lot of people to have a discussion on but I feel like this could have been narrowed down a lot. I understand wanting to show how she’s healing through very thing and that progression but it was just so repetitive that the story just kinda stayed the same. There was only two parts where something actually happened and the rest was just mostly the same. Like I said I’m not going to sit here and say that the healing process from something like that isn’t important because it is but it felt like every chapter she was just saying the same thing to herself over and over again. Each chapter a form of the same thing happened. The only things that stood out were the crazy assistant and the part of information she got at the end. I get wanting to see how she’s working through it to build up to the end of the book but it was too much. I read the same scenario over and over again in each chapter. Just panic attack, shaking, won’t eat, thinks about the guys sometimes, and a flash back I just wanted more of the plot than that because the writing is good but the plot was so repetitive.

Very similar to another series I’ve read by this author.
Addys relationship with her brothers she has just met is so weird, they call her pet names and she sits on their laps and they’re very touchy feely comforting to her. Honestly was expecting them to find out she’s not really related and join in the why choose of it all.
Read it quick enough tho, gonna start the next book anyway since I’m apparently in the mood to read shit I’m not enjoying 🤷🏻♀️

Another great read
What can I say about this book other than holy deal what a cliffhanger ending. I did not see it going there and it threw me. It is an awesome read and book by one of my favorite authors. If you have read any of Kerry's books you know they are not only gonna be great but have twists and turns and be a tear Jerker . Make sure to check the trigger warnings because its not fair to yourself or the author if you read it and are triggered and therefore don't like what is in fact a good book and leave a bad review just cause it wasn't your cup of tea. I am rooting for not only Addy and her guys but also am looking forward to seeing her developing relationship with her brothers. Thank you for another great read I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I 100% recommend this book.

I’ll give this a 4 star, there were some typos and some needed editing done. The characters were good, the FMC was really good. The nickname for Addy that Asher and Eli (her brothers) give like Sweetie, sweetheart are kinda like dad nicknames they give to their daughters; I like little dot for Asher to addy it’s kinda sweet brotherly. The book is like the same plot as her broken series. Thing is though, as much as what she went through was absolutely horrible there does need to be an actual plot. I can see how there are 3 books to the series, the retelling and shock value scenes are pretty much all of book 1. The heroine is severely traumatised, I don't see her characterisation changing anytime soon. Adam, Jordan and Kane in book one are on point… Jordan is becoming my favorite along with her brother Eli. I will read the rest of the series.

I love Kerry Taylor’s books but this one …
Let me start with this, I think the storyline has amazing potential. This book could be something amazing … if it wasn’t so repetitive and rushed. This book is supposed to be about a woman who was kidnapped and brutalized and within 2 days of being at her new found brothers house, the love interests are already basically proclaiming their love for her and she them. 2 days. Also by the end of those 2 days you’re already halfway through the book. A lot of it is everyone repeating things that have already been said. No real character development, no real relationship build-up. I feel like there could be so much more and it all just got glossed over. I’m sorry I couldn’t leave a better review :(

Lost
Spoilers possibly in review. Wow, this is so dark, but so beautifully written. Unfortunately it drags you in deep when our heroine has her flashbacks. Be very careful if you have life triggers involving rape, capture or just about anything. I loved that this doesn't fluff over the trauma or dive into Insta physical love. Our heroine has rescued herself from sex trafficking and it's discovered that she has two very wealthy half brothers who take her in and help her recovery. She has traumatic memory loss and her horrors creep in gradually revealing just how terrible the last two years were. She even begins to feel more for their three friends who also suffer from various trauma. Wonderful, but needs editing for spelling and punctuation.

I thought it was my imagination. I loved her Pieces and Shepard Security series’. I’ve read both a few times. Unfortunately this book as with the previous Fighting for them series, to me seems like it’s written by a different person. There’s so much inner repeated dialogue instead of conversations between the characters it’s like filler. Like having to write a 10 page paper for school but only have five pages worth of core material so you add fluff.
Also the main characters comfort level with strangers (including her brothers) considering what she’s been through brought me completely out of the story.
I always give my DNF list a second pass at a later date but this one left me disappointed.

There’s so much about this I want to like. A lot I do like. There’s just something lost for me with the inaccuracy of recovery from physical wounds like the FMC here. You don’t know what you don’t know, it’s just though to follow through with a story when you’ve got real experience with what the writer is trying to portray. There’s always broken/ cracked ribs in stories like this and just for the record, they’re so slow to heal and any movement period is excruciating. Multiple broken ribs and being picked up/pulled up by your hands, even rolling over in bed is incapacitating. Maybe I’m the jerk, but it’s really difficult to overlook.

Pay attention to the Trigger Warning
This book was amazing!!! It had me smiling, and crying. I couldn’t read the flash backs that was too much for me but I appreciated how Kerry Taylor warned the reader before they came, she changed the font and everything, I greatly appreciated that. It’s an odd thing the book feels slow in some places and medium paced in other places but it kept the book interesting. I like the instant connection between siblings and the way it was realistic in healing from her trauma. I’ve really liked what I’ve read so far and can’t wait to read book 2.

I didn’t DNF this, but towards the end I wished I had. It’s just a lot of her crying and internal thoughts while being held by her brothers and various other men who insta-love her and seem to have no depth or character development.
Also, a pet peeve of mine is when an author can’t remember hair or eye colors. Throughout the book she talks about the FMC’s big green eyes, then suddenly they’re brown. It’s a small thing but it breaks the illusion for me and if the author doesn’t bother to care, why should I?

Broken girl, found family
As a whole, I like this story. Currently, I am not too impressed with Kane. However I really like the brother's relationship with their long-lost sister. Given that their father has passed away, I am not sure that the final cliffhanger was really necessary or needed. The girl has been through a lot, but she didn't need that one more thing. It just seemed extra. It also seems unlikely since she was kept in Nevada that she would be running into these people in New York like this.

Good Read
This was a highly emotional read with lots of difficult topics but from reading previous books by Kerry Taylor I knew she handled them well and in a way I can deal with as a reader. The story was as great as it was heartbreaking and I was totally addicted right from the start. The ending was epic and I can’t wait to start reading the next book in the series. I would 100% recommend giving this book a read.

I have to say I balled my eyes out for this girl what she is going through but its another One of my favorite story's To add to my collects I've have read and I can't put these books down. 10 stars.

goosebumps
This book had me ugly crying at so many points. It is so hard to read what she goes through but it is so amazing to see her grow and push through her pain. Kerry Taylor is amazing with showing that growth.
P.s. I recommend this book only if you can handle the triggers. Its not for the faint hearted.

This book is heart-breaking. It's so hard to read some of the things that have happened to Addy. Her life has not been easy. It is repetitive but it felt natural for someone who has been through so much trauma. There's no quick fix, but constant support from the guys. I love her brothers! And the other guys, just awesome! Going to dive straight into book 2 now :)

This goes into the dark past of Addy through flashbacks. She’s lost her memory of the past two years and finds her brothers after being arrested. They’ve supported her through her recovery and given her a family. Her trauma is mentioned in depth but the connections she’s made are so genuine. The cliffhanger was so insane it completely threw me.

Phenomenal
Of course it was phenomenal. I'm yet to read anything bad by Kerry Taylor. She has a truly inspiring mind. I also hope she has lots of sunshine and rainbows in her life because her characters are always traumatised. Of course they find the light but it can't be easy writing their back stories. Brilliant as ever.

Major triggers
Kerry Taylor has a way of making you feel so much for her characters. Some major triggers in this book, and most likely in the whole series. She writes heart tearing books, and I love them all!

Triggers and heartbreaking trauma. This book is well written story of a trafficking survivor’s journey through facing the memories and finding her strength as she moves forward. Found family and evil disguised as humans. I need to continue.

So this book was quite dark as most are from the author, but I appreciate how she can still make the story hopeful I definitely enjoyed the story and with that ending I will be reading the next book right away four stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A few grammar/spelling/continuity issues with this. The main character has felt very similar to others the author has written. Interesting plot though so will read the next book.
