"The E.T. Chronicles" grapples with the "big" questions such as "Who are we? Where do we come from? Why are we here?" through a careful reading of world mythology. The authors organize these ancient stories into a chronology that starts with "in the beginning" and ends with the advent of civilization in an effort to discover the true story of human origins. It brings together myths from many cultures including the Sumerians, the Greeks, the Maya and the Aborigines of Australia. Current scientific discoveries are then placed side-by-side with these early worldviews. Among the topics covered are: Creation mythsGods and goddessesHeavenThe gods and their toys (space ships or chariots?)The quest for immortality
Part of what makes this such fun, interesting, and of near universal interest is that mythology is filled with stories of torrid romances, elaborate and intricate plots, violence, scandals and conspiracies. Could it be that those ancient stories of the gods were more than the product of someone's fanciful imagination? Is it possible that the writers, chroniclers and scribes of our distant past actually record an accurate view of our origin? Could it be that we are really children of the stars?
This is a book that can be classified as alternative or "outside of the box" history. It will appeal to fans of Graham Hancock, John Anthony West, Erik van Daniken, and Zechariah Sitchen.

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
I love ancient myths, ancient legends, ancient history, and especially Ancient Aliens. This book attempts to reconcile this list of many ancient things into a cohesive narrative through creation myths of Greek, Native American, Mayan, Chinese, Sumerian, Hebrew, Babylonian...the list goes on and on.
This was a valiant attempt. There are parts of the book that tie things together quite well. There are parts of the many sets of legends that mesh and help to support the author's hypotheses. The author knows the subject very well. However, communicating the subject to the reader is not her strength.
At the mid point in the book, things are very convoluted and concepts get very murky. I took a few re-reads of sections to ferret out what the author was trying to convey. There were also places that scientific source material seemed to contradict the author's theories. She explains that this could be due to manipulation from the entities we know as gods in efforts to shape us in a certain way.
I don't know what to think of the book. I am convinced that there is great information here. I believe that we can learn a lot about real human history by looking at some of the common stories in traditions and legends around the globe. I am not convinced that this book presented the best and most sound arguments on the subject.
Overall, not bad. I enjoyed reading it. Also, a concept introduced later in the book was the most important to me. Humanity displays all the traits of a domesticated species. Did we do it to ourselves, or was it our otherworldly keepers/masters who did this to us? I would love to see that concept explored more deeply.
Excellent job correlating and finding the similarities between the gods and myths of different cultures. Those correlations at least suggest a world-wide culture, or cultures in close contact. The authors claim those correlations suggest "gods" in the form of extraterrestrials are responsible for the similarities in these worldwide cultures and myths. The authors do a good job supporting that hypothesis, but I have concerns over how convincing that evidence is. Maybe it is my bias; as a scientist I want more than correlations. Perhaps investigating the issues raised in the epilogue using genetics and other biology will provide more tangible evidence.
I wan this book in goodreads giveaway. This is a really good book with lots of information, you have to read it with a open mind , it makes you think about everything... Myths, legends religion, aliens this book is awesome.
This is a good summary of various ancient history texts and their commonalities. I have been an ancient history buff for a long time so none of this is new to me. The best book on human origins IMO is DNA of the Gods by Chris Hardy.
This is a fascinating book. It is almost like reading some scripts from " Ancient Aliens". Thanks to GoodReads I can compare ancient tales and myths with scientific evidence to try to decipher our partners in the past I highly reccomend this book.
