Rate this book

Wonderfully written saga

This is just another example of the exceptional writing talent by Madge Swindell. This story covers almost three decades beginning in the '70's as rich boy Robert and poor girl Marjorie meet and fall in love.

The determination to become something, especially in the 1970's timeframe, as a woman brought me back to the 'super mom' image being extolled at the time. Having children and a career was drilled in our heads. I know I succumbed to the idea. Virginia Slims ads announced "you've come a long way, baby," and we had..... but the guilt of neglecting our parenting/nurturing by replacing it with overwork to attain our children's futures and having what we never had became the worst of life's lessons. This story describes and details all too well the grind and poor return for our efforts regardless of how much wealth/status we had attained.

I loved this book and felt a personal connection to Marjorie. So much emptiness in her revenge. So much loss regardless of her business gains.

This is an absolute recommendation to readers, especially women.
