4.5 - Beloved Stars!

I absolutely loved this book. I didn't have massive expectations going in, I was just looking to be entertained for a few hours. I love a man in a kilt and a gravelly Scottish burr, hits me right in the knicker elastic, and it was pinging all over the place with this Highland treat.

Add into the mix Shape-shifting bears, a few friendly ghosts, a lot of giggling and a little sniffle, and I fell in love with Laird Creighton Masterson, and his brothers Ronan and Bryce. Paisley Munro arriving from the US with her Grandmother, Effie is just the woman to tame the ornery, demanding and swooningly sweet Laird.

"I was scared of you before, but I'm not now."

A Highlander's Obsession delivered a whole lot more than I was expecting, and although the first book in the Highlanders Beloved series it offered a lot of openings and introductions whilst still keeping Creigh and Paisley at its focal point.

I love Scotland, although the Scotland in this book is the Scotland I wish I had visited previously, I'd kinda like my own kilt wearing Laird to curl up with on cold nights the next time I travel to the Highlands!

"We'll make a Scot of ye yet."

I had just discovered this title a few days ago, and when I saw a recommendation for this one, I knew I needed to try it out, especially since it was at a discounted price...and it was well worth the price and more!! I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this story...and if you like sexy highland shifter were bears...than this is a story you HAVE to check out.

A Highlander's Obsession is the first book the series, and it starts out with Paisley Munro, who is accompanying her grandmother, to Scotland, to be a witness to a will for her grandmother's uncle. When they arrive, they have been escorted by some handsome Scots with kilts and on their way to the Lodge, where the Matheson's have invited them to stay, she starts to hear thoughts from a bear that is human in nature. Paisley has certain gifts, where she can communicate with animals, but she has never before been able to hear human thoughts before. When she meets Creighton, those thoughts become more pronounced, and she comes face to face with a man who acts like he commands the world, but can't resist his sensual nature or the way he brings feelings for him out in her.

This story was quite a sensational read. This is a shifter romance, which involves shifter bears (sexy hunkiness), who in their human forms, they are Scots...what is more sexy right? Creighton is pure alpha male, leader of his clan, and when he meets Paisley, he is captivated. She isn't his normal type of woman, but finds her stunning, and desires to claim her as his mate, despite the fact that she is just here for a visit or that she is engaged. Paisley is a woman of courage and most of her life she has been mocked for her gift, but here in Scotland, she learns that she can truly be accepted for who she really is. Even though she is engaged to another man, she starts to fall in love with Creighton, who makes her feel things she has never experienced.

I loved the connected that Creighton and Paisley have for each other. Creighton well...one sexy beast!! I adored this hero, he is commanding, has quite a attitude when it comes to have Pasiley as his own, he is the type to carry a woman over his shoulder if she is being stubborn. Paisley is a strong heroine, and I felt her so easy to relate with...I could see us being best friends in another life. What I also liked was seeing some conflict that pays a vital role in the plot and really keeps your senses alive. There was quite a bit of depth to this story and the romance was just so sweet yet passionate. I loved the family, and I can't wait till the next book comes out...yay for sexy shifter bear brothers who wear kilts and have irresistible brogues. Overall this story was exciting, playful, and highly romantic....truly a keeper!! A Must read for your shelves!!

This book is certainly a surprise. I knew that it had magic and romance. I didn't know that it would also have humor. I like it! :)

THE PLOT

The plot is supposed to be quite simple really, an animal communicator meets a Scottish shapeshifter... It's predictable that they should fall for each other and bam! Happily ever after. However, it's not that simple. There are other factors... like a fiance back home waiting for the heroine, a curse that'll doom the hero's fate and a greedy man who's actions got out of hand. This is a story of how their lives change in just a short time.

I enjoyed every twist and turn in the story. It made me very interested in their history. Ahem, I even researched on bear legends! I almost always enjoy shifter stories... there are so many things that can happen and it's unpredictable.. this one just like that. It surely is magical. :)

THE CHARACTERS

Paisley, the animal communicator has a good heart, but she has been shunned away by everyone except her grandma and (ugh!) her fiance because of her gift. She finds peace with her grandma and goes to the highlands and meets the hero. I like how she handles herself around Creighton. He's very intimidating, but she stood up for herself... Not at first, but she got the hang of it! I will be honest as to say that I didn't like her crying jag. She was always crying... even in scenes that I didn't think were dramatic enough. Anyway, I still like her because she's not a pushover when it comes to Creighton.

Creighton, the laird of the land has a lot of responsibilities. He has to do what needs to be done. With the curse hanging over his head, he's now more on edge. When he meets Paisley, he couldn't trust how he feels right away. He has to think of the clan, but all he thinks of is Paisley... an obsession of some sort. :) I like how he is with Paisley too. He's considerate and he's always very sweet. It might be a tad bit too cheesy, but it's okay. He's like a romance poet in some scenes. A shifter poet! Nice! ;p

THE COMPLICATION in this book teaches us that there are just some things that a person shouldn't lie about. It also tells us that the truth will come out eventually and it will bite you in the ass if you're not careful.

THEIR BANTER is what YOU SHOULD LOOK FORWARD TO!! It's entertaining! They fight with words and then make up later! I love it! It's a part of this couple's charm.

The other characters are great! They made the story more colorful. The brothers surely are something to look forward to as well. They are hilarious when they're together!! ^___^ Paisley's grandmother is also so nice and um... rare. haha! I can imagine her outfits.I love her because she's so good to her grand daughter. One of the best grandmas in fiction land!

THE ENDING is a bit abrupt. I wanted to know more. I wanted to see them get married. I wasn't looking at the page, so I was shocked to find out that I was on the last page. MORE PLEASE!!

All in all, if you like highlanders, magic and humor... this one's for you! I give this a 4!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Highlander's Obsession by Vonnie Davis was a 2 1/2 star read for me. This is the first book I've read by this author and the book description had me so excited to read - Highlander, bear shifter and compared to Shelly Laurenston = one click. While I loved the concept of this book and all the characters but one, that one was major. The heroine Paisley Munro is a mousy doormat who needs a faucet to turn off her constant tears. I tried to see how many times Paisley cried in this book but either my kindle is acting up or it's just so many that processing the search for tears is taking way to long. In my opinion this book is nothing like Shelly Laurenston's work.

I can’t actually believe just how much FUN this title was to read: combining kilted Scotsmen and shifters in the Highlands of Scotland, wrapping it all around a tale of destined romance and adding an all-bark-no-bite bluster to the hero and Vonnie Davis has brought a lovely story.

Paisley and her Gran, Effie are heading to Scotland for a relative’s funeral. What neither know is that this is a destined journey for Paisley: her ability to communicate with animals make her a perfect veterinary assistant, but have her socially withdrawn and a bit insecure. In fact, her fiancé when she heads off is overbearing and overwhelming, and the break from that train wreck of a relationship is exactly what Paisley needs.

Arriving in Scotland, Davis manages to set the scene to give readers a real feel of the sights and country, and when Paisley first encounters Creighton, by fainting dead away, this starts the series of twists and turns that will intrigue and entertain. For Creighton is most worried about his clan: Paisley’s inheritance of the old castle and lands will impact his people as they are used to the freedom to wander and shift at will in the remote area.

Effie is clever and funny, with a touch of the mystical behind her, all buried in a caring, sweet package that simply wants to see Paisley happy. Paisley has moments where everything becomes too much, and it almost appears as if it will break her, but she soon finds her own strength and confidence, and learns to become more confident because of her gift, not in spite of it. And Creighton, how could you not adore Creighton? Laird of his clan, and a bear-shifter, he has some very blustery moments that are based in his frustration and insecurities where his feelings for Paisley are concerned. Protective, loyal and oh so sexy, his determination to get and win her, and possibly reverse the centuries-old curse on his clan all combine together to make him a formidable hero.

A fun and unique read with bear (not wolf) shifters, kilted heroes, magic and fantasy all in the Highlands of Scotland. Throw in the happy ending and it is a not to be missed story!

I received an eBook copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Book provided through Netgalley and Loveswpt publishing for an honest review,!

Ms Davis has penned a witty, magical, funny highland romance with a paranormal edge that putting down was a complete challenge.
Paisley Munro and her Gram come to the Scottish highlands to attend a family member funeral , much to the chagrin of her Fiancé And boss Alex; Paisley is a veterinary technician with a special gift, she can communicate with animals , though Paisley prefers to keep her talent private . Paisley's experience with the acceptance of her gift has been mostly negative her whole life including her parents who thought she was loosing her mind, but not her Gram; gram has always been there for her; so it is no wonders he faints dead away into Laird Creighton Mathesons arms when she believes she can hear his thoughts.

Creighton was already drawn to Paisley the minute he set eyes on her getting out of the land rover , but having her in his arms brings out the Alpha protective male in him and his bear. Yes his bear, Creighton is not only the laird of his clan, but he is the head of his bear sleuth also, yes he is a shifter along with th majority of the clan.Paisley did not know he was past bear so hearing his thoughts was a stresser .creighton though tries to fight his instant attraction by remembering wht his clan member said about gram and paisley coming to Scotland to sell off Iverson manor father they inherit , and for his sleuth the land is important , they need it and the privacy it affords .
To spite the two being at odds and off the attraction is undeniable , Paisley tries to resist but Creighton slowly wins her over till it all become too much after all how can a girl handle cheating on her fiancé , see your lover change into a bear , then having his great grandparents ghosts show up and prattle on about a curse....

Paisley's character has a strong stubborn side, she is incredibly caring and wonderful with animals thanks to her talent and a loving person . Creighton is your deliscously big highland sexy alpha male , the secondary characters rs equally as enthralling and add further dimension to the story line. Great read for Fans of highland romance or the paranormal romance!,,,

When you're a sucker for a Scottish man in a kilt and the odd shape-shifter, discovering a series that features both is no bad thing. And never has a title been more apt, because A Highlander's Obsession is exactly what we get; Creighton Matheson is an intense, protective man, who wears his heart on his sleeve and is nothing but honest...most of the time.

"Ye'd do well to be afraid of me, for I want ye naked, beneath me like I've never desired another woman before."

When American, Paisley Munro and her Gran, Effie, arrive at Matheson Lodge for a family funeral, the last thing Paisley expects is to be attracted to the Laird. But she is and it's not long before they discover each other has secrets. And with a superb chemistry, their story is filled with fight, lust, emotion and some laugh-out-loud humour

"Are you shy? What's wrong, big guy? Afraid to show me your Scottish bagpipe?"

There were elements of this book I loved and those I loved less so. The storyline is great, it has momentum and introduces us to a plethora of characters with their own stories to be told. But as much as I was cheering Creighton and Paisley on, equally they frustrated with her flitting from feisty and stubborn to a bit of a cry-baby and he being overly possessive; granted he's alpha in both human and shifter form, but his possessive nature was a touch off-putting at times.

Vonnie Davis is a new author to me and, once I had gotten my head around the written Scottish dialect which at first read a little more Irish to me, I liked her style and found it a well-paced, enjoyable read. And with Bryce's story set up nicely, I look forward to seeing what lies in store.

3.5 Stars.

ARC A Highlander’s Obsession

A Highlander’s Obsession is book one in a Highlander’s Beloved series by Vonnie Davis. I can’t believe how much fun this read was for me. Ms. Davis has created a delightful magical tail full of humor and sweet romance. We get kilted Scotsmen and shifters in the Highlands. Who can resist a sexy Scottish shifter in a kilt?

Paisley Munro, human with a gift for talking to animals, but when she goes to Scotland for a funeral she hears a distinct humans thoughts. Crighton Matheson, Laird of the clan and bear shape-shifter. He cares about his clan and family, very protective of what is his, and loyal. All alpha sexy shifter.

A Highlander’s Obsession is filled with humor, emotion, magic and sweet romance, the plot is simple, but interesting. I was captivated by the very first sentence and could not put the book down tell the end. What caught my attention was the humor in this book. I was pleasantly surprised that their was so much humor built into this lovely sweet romance. The author does a marvelous job setting the scene and giving the readers a real feel of the sights and country of Scotland. The twists and turns keep the reader engaged and entertained.

The characters are just delightful in this story. Even the secondary characters where enjoyable and I can’t forget about the brothers, they are something. Effie, my god she was a hoot. I could picture her so clearly and the things she say’s had me ROFL. She does have a touch of the mystical in her, buried in a caring sweet package that wants to see her only grand-daughter happy. I loved Effie! Paisley was amusing. I did go back and forth in liking her or not. It all had to do with her back and forth in being the strong feisty women or the wilting lily who faint at too much information overload. How can she have such a hard time accepting these things when she herself has a gift? Crighton was attractive. I enjoyed his protective instincts towards his clan and Paisley. I loved how his romantic passionate side came out. The romance between Crighton and Paisley was sweet and I enjoyed the banter between them. Once these two get together their love making is hot and steamy.

A Highlander’s Obsession is a fun read with sexy bear shifters, kilted heroes, and magic all set in the Highlands of Scotland. This is one read not to miss especially if you love bear shifters. I am looking forward to more Highland magic!

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!!!

This was my first Vonnie Davis book. It won't be my last. I'm fond of shifter stories, and these bears are a handful. I quite liked how Ms. Davis created her world and kept to the rules she created.

Paisley can hear animals. I've always thought that would be a really cool "super power" but I can see how it could be a hard thing, too. She's quite shocked when she hears a human mind for the first time. She figures that's it, she's finally gone totally nuts.

Creighton, on the other hand, is NOT going to like this pretty woman. Not at all, well, maybe just a little. Well, maybe just a lot.

At one point I was really annoyed. The bears can use their magic to erase human memories. Creighton does so, and I was ready to put the book down and walk away. Fortunately, it came back to bite his furry buns...hard. Good!

Effie, Paisley's grandmother, is something else. Her hair is pink and she wears colors to compliment it. And pelican baffies...slippers. She's a riot, for sure. I think she needs her own HEA at some point. She's going to enliven the Scottish Highlands.

There's a mystery here, too, and it was enjoyable seeing everything fall into place. A bit scary when the climax came, wondering who was going to survive.

A great start to a new series. I look forward to reading more. On a side note, Ms. Davis' agent is someone I went to high school with. Dawn Dowdle...small world!

NetGalley Review:

Paisley Munro has found meaning in her life by working as a veterinary assistant. Her gift of being able to communicate with animals has felt more like a curse. While traveling to Scotland for a relative’s funeral, Paisley fears that she really has lost her mind. Creighton Matheson is the clan leader of shape-shifting bears who have been roaming the land freely for centuries. Now Paisley may inherit his home, putting his kind in grave danger. His mistrust only deepens when he realizes she can read his mind. Yet the attraction and pull between them cannot be denied and they must choose what's in their hearts to let go of what's in their heads.

Where to begin? Where. To. Begin… From start to finish, conflict to resolution, this was sheer brilliance. There's the paranormal edge with shape-shifting bears (bears, not wolves--so refreshing) and a heroine who can speak to animals, plus a family castle with ghosts. Then there's the contemporary end with quirky humor and real problems. This wasn't a typical book to lump into one category. The hero and heroine were both relatable and the chemistry was electric. Solid, nail-biting conflict. Scottish Highlands, hot guy in a kilt. Oh yeah. The setting was detailed and put the reader right there. Most impressive was the way the lingo and dialog were delivered. Davis did her research and never pulled me out of the story for a minute. Highly recommended!

Wonderfully written characters and storyline.
Paisley and her Gram come from America to The Scottish Highlands for a funeral and a will reading, and get so much more than they bargained for.
Paisley has a gift that many wouldn't understand and think her crazy for admitting to .When she meets Creighton she thinks she's loosing her mind, for he has a secret that he must keep hidden ,to protect the people he loves and leads.
I invite you to read this 5 star story and see why everything is better In the Highlands....

Not a bad little story. I enjoyed it. Not enough angst for me. I love highland historical s better than contemporaries but that is just a personal preference. What I liked about this is the heroine could talk to animals and fell in love with a shifter with an inner bear. How cool is that?

A Highland shape shifter, an American animal communicator, an eccentric grandmother - all add up to one of the most enjoyable reads I've had in a very long time.

Vonnie Davis' A Highlander's Obsession, the first book in her new A Highlander's Beloved series, is just one of the most perfect stories. It doesn't hurt that the bear shifters have brogues and wear kilts, that there's a bit of mystery and suspense, some steamy love scenes, a great deal of laughter. Yes, this is a book that I highly recommend for anyone who's looking for that perfect alpha hero and a heroine with spunk.

From the moment when Paisley Munroe arrives at the airport in Scotland with her gram, I began chuckling. Yes, gram is the one who wants to lift the kilts and see what's underneath. I adore this pink haired, pink pelican slipper-wearing, iconoclast. She's a wonderful contrast to Paisley who seems to have to live life a bit more seriously, but at the same time adoring her gram, Effie Iverson Munro.

When the two kilt-wearing hunks turn out to be the welcoming committee, I was sold. Then we find that they're bear shifters. Well, burly guys who get a bit hairy. Quite fine with me. Once we meet Creighton Matheson, the eldest son and laird, well, I found a new book boyfriend for sure!

Yes, I was totally lost in Davis' story and began asking my cat if the bear that tumbled our bird feeder might be a little more than just an ursine friend. (My cat meowed and sniffed, but I was rather hoping that a bear might have travelled over from the Highlands.)

Paisley's gram inherited property from her uncle, Angus Iverson, that adjoins that of the Mathesons. There are rumors that developers and oil speculators may be coming at the American's invitation. Are gram and Paisley going to upset the bear's Highland refuge? Is someone trying to blacken their name? What is going on?

Meanwhile, Paisley is engaged to a veterinarian she works for, and seems quite ashamed of her natural ability to communicate with animals. Oh right, shifters are animals too, aren't they... Yes, the situations that Davis sets up are both hilarious and at times heartrending.

My only complaint about this book is that I wanted to read more. Yes, I'll be counting the days until the next book in this series is released. Vonnie Davis is now on my must-read list for her witty commentary, compassionate and fun protagonists, and an engrossing page-turner.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Two wandering souls discover that true love needs no words in this explosive, fantastical novel from Vonnie Davis.

Somehow able to telepathically communicate with animals, Paisley Munro has found meaning in her so-called gifts by working as a veterinary assistant. But while traveling to Scotland for a relative’s funeral, Paisley fears that she really has lost her mind. Out in the highlands, she hears distinctly human thoughts coming from a wild bear. Terrified and desperate, she returns to the lodge and collapses in the powerful arms of its owner, a mysterious man with whom she shares a simmering attraction.

Creighton Matheson and his fellow shape-shifters have been roaming this land freely for centuries. Now Paisley may inherit his home, putting his kind in grave danger. His mistrust only deepens when he realizes she can read his mind. Yet he cannot deny that this tantalizing woman makes him burn with desire—and hunger for the prospect of a tender love. Now Creighton must decide which would hurt more: revealing the truth or losing Paisley forever.

My Thoughts

As a young child of 12 Paisley became aware of her talent to communicate with animals, rather than supporting their child her parents accused her of lying and being crazy leading to her going to live with her grandmother permanently.

Having grown up with the loving support of her grandmother Effie Paisley turned her gift into a career as a veterinary assistant, although it made her happy she felt the need to have a family which in turn prompted her to become engaged to a man who never saw her as a person but rather as a ticket to riches by capitalizing on her talent.

Paisley Munro finds herself on a journey to Scotland with her grandmother Effie, who has come for a relatives funeral and reading of his will as Effie is due to inherit according to the late Angus’s lawyer.

Upon arriving in Scotland Paisley and her grandmother are driven to their lodging by two of the Matheson brothers and once there she is surprised to find herself able to hear the thoughts of Laird Creighton Matheson, the eldest son.

The events that unfold from that point on include the bonding moments that come about as Paisley helps Creighton deliver a mare of her twin foals, the passionate attraction that develops between the two no matter how much they try to fight it’s pull, the revealing of a family curse that may soon mean the end of Creighton’s life, unveiling of the resident family ghosts and several plots that involve drugs as well as the kidnapping and rescue of Effie.

By the time we get to the end of this story all the secrets that abound are revealed and Creighton and Paisley find that the truths they share have made their bond deepen, as does the love they both felt for one another which has only grown the longer they are together.

I am a fan of shape-shifters, and like others who have pointed out their own enjoyment of having the main animal that the characters change into as bears, this paranormal twist makes for a nice change.

Everyone deserves to be shown acceptance for who they are, believe you me Creighton Matheson does a first rate job of it many times over and he melts the readers heart as much as Paisley's with his sweetly poetic words as well as his actions.

I also particularly loved the fact that the stormy relationship with Creighton and Paisley was full of give and take on both their parts, his sweetly romantic side was nicely offset with the possessiveness that dominated most of their interactions. I also enjoyed the fact that Paisley finally allowed herself to emerge from the shell that she had created very early to keep herself from being made fun of, it was so fantastic for her to be around people that actually thought her talent made her special rather than a freak of nature!

OK..

I loved the Dr. Dolittle movies so I knew I’d love this book too. Loved Creighton and Paisley from the start. As well as Gram Effie, Fiona, Ronan and Bryce. I knew from the time Paisley talked to Heather Mist, the mare, that I couldn’t wait to see what else she was going to talk to. And to find out who was up the tree when they had arrived at the castle.

I absolutely loved the sexual attraction that went on between Creighton and Paisley BUT the talking during it all was a little silly and unreal. If you polled 100 couples about 1 couple would say they talked like that, I bet. I had to skip a lot of the sex when I came across that, as it was just too silly for words. Plus, after she has the best sex ever she starts talking about Alex and feeling bad because she cheated on him, even though she could never think of one good thing about him, maybe she’d email or call him to let him know of her affection. Really? This was one messed up chick. AND she was a crier. Tears were mentioned 47 times in this book and it was all Paisley. She was stubborn and sassy but she did cry at the drop of a hat.

This book started out soooo good but then it got ridiculous, and that was all because of Paisley. Her thoughts about Alex were totally stupid. She didn’t love him, didn’t even like him, but felt like she had to be loyal to him, unlike her parents did for her. He was so controlling. Looking to make money off of her. He was just a joke.

I have to tell you I did stop several times to lmao. Especially at the dinner table where she and Creighton were have a mental argument, but it was heard by others at the table. The argument was just hysterical.

AND I was surprised that Creighton had already told her that he loved her but when she said it to him twice, while they were having sex, both times all he said was, “am I hurting you?” Seriously? I thought that was kind of unfeeling of him. The author could have written that better.

The most disgusting thing about this book is what Paisley said about Creighton, to Creighton’s ex-girlfriend, Blaire, in the bathroom. THAT was a really lousy thing for her to have said about the man she was supposed to have loved and the LAIRD of the clan. If it hadn’t been at 84% I would have quite reading, I was so grossed out by what she said. Paisley absolutely ruined this book, or rather the author ruined the book by making Paisley so selfish, so self-centered, such a crier and such a disgusting person in regards to what she said. I was going to read Bryce and Ronan’s books but now I’m not sure.

Overall, I like everyone in the book, Creighton, Gram Effie, Fiona, Ronan and Bryce. Everyone except Paisley. And I kept reading so I could see how it ended with the will and all that, and to make sure that bad guy was who I thought it was.

AND it sucked that there was no epilogue.

This is an absolutely wonderful book that shows love has no bounds and when you truly love someone you accept them the was they are. Vonnie Davis is such a talented writer if i had not been asked to read this book i would have missed out a great book I do not know how i have over looked her books I love a good paranormal romance and this one delivers a hell of a ride U was up for over 24hrs streght as i could not put the p book down this story is about Paisley Munro and Creighton Matheson and do not forget grandma Effie for if not for her this story would not have been as good whit her Bawdy humor and the fact that she hates Paisly’s fiance and believe Chreighton is the man for her granddaughter.Somehow able to telepathically communicate with animals, Paisley Munro has found meaning in her so-called gifts by working as a veterinary assistant.and Creighton Matheson and his fellow shape-shifters have been roaming this land freely for centuries. Now Paisley may inherit his home, putting his kind in grave danger but when she meets him and hears his thought she faints at his feet and that was all it took for him to be drawn to the beautiful American no matter how much he fights it but as all good love stories go things are never that simple.

Paisley Munro travels with her grandmother, Effie, to Scotland for the will reading of a distant relative. Paisley has a unique skill, she has the ability to communicate with animals. While it comes in handy for her job as a vet tech she is afraid that if other find out they will think she's crazy or a freak. To her surprise when she arrives at the castle they will be staying at, she is able to read the Laird's thoughts. Creighton Matheson is a bear shifter the Laird of his clan. He takes his responsibilities seriously and when an American woman and her pink haired grandmother come to his castle for a will reading he is concerned about their motives. But when he starts to spend more time with Paisley he is drawn to her in a way he has never been drawn to a woman before.

I really enjoyed Paisley and Creigh as a couple. Their bickering and flirting was fun to read about and makes them feel like a real couple. You can see how their relationship grows throughout the story. There are many times when I wanted to hit Creigh over the head with something right along with Paisley but then he would start to talk in his burr and be all flirty and sexy and I was in agreement with Paisley that he could be forgiven of pretty much anything.

There is also a nice sub-plot with the will and the fall out from that, as well as a clan issue that creeps up occasionally, and the curse that gets mentioned a lot but the story is mostly focused on Paisley and Creighton. I loved the secondary characters, Creigh's family, Effie, the clan member and also the animals Paisley communicates with. They all have distinct personalities and it was fun to see the interaction of them all.

I do wish we had a bit of an epilogue at the end. We aren't left with a cliffhanger but I would have liked a bit more information about what the conclusion was in regards to the curse. I can deduce how it will end but I would have liked a bit more with the characters.

This is the first book I have read by Davis but I really enjoyed it so it will not be my last. I am excited to see where she goes with this series and which brother (since I am assuming she will write about a brother next) will have the next book.

Large sexy shifter men in kilts with yummy accents…Yes Please!

Paisley has a secret…she can communicate with animals telepathically. It’s something that has been more curse than gift. People shun her and make her feel like a freak because of her abilities, and because of the fear of how someone will react she doesn’t share her secret with just anyone.

Creighton has a secret too…he’s the leader of a pack of bear shifters. No one outside the clan knows of their true nature, but when he realizes Paisley can hear his bear’s thoughts he knows he’s in trouble. Of course that doesn’t mean he can help the attraction he feels for her or the obsession he has with making her his.

In A Highlander’s Obsession secrets will be traded, fear will triumph, memories will be taken, hearts are broken, and love will rule.

This is a great shifter romance. The characters are well developed and interesting is their own ways. I love Paisley’s grandmother (she had me laughing from the very first page) and Creighton’s brothers. If it wasn’t for them the story wouldn’t have been near as interesting.

My Favorite Laughable Moments: I have three. All had me laughing out loud and I just cannot choose which I love more.

The not-so-private telepathic conversation between Paisley and Creighton at the dinner table. Ronan and Bryce’s reactions were hilarious!

~And~

Creighton and the love potion gone wrong. All those bugs! I have no words to describe how funny that was.

~And~

When Paisley repays ‘dumb bitchery with bitchy intelligence’. Gotta love those BDSM books…you never know when the knowledge may come in handy!

Full of magic and romance, A Highlander's Obsession was a lovely read. I liked this book. It was an enjoyable romance.

Paisley was a good heroine. She started out as a hesitant character whose issues with rejection made her a doormat with her idiotic fiance. But, as the book went on, she grew more confident and became a much better character. My only real complaint about her was that her trust issues made her a bit frustrating, with her tendency to either run away or assume the worst. Otherwise, I liked her.

Creighton was also great. He was very loyal and protective of those he cared about, be it the people in his clan, or the woman he loved. However, he had an unfortunate tendency to bluster, where he would yell a lot but not actually say anything. It made me want to sit him down and explain how communication works. But, he could be sweet when he wanted to be and he was an overall likable hero.

The romance was lovely. A bit frustrating with Paisley's fight or flight response to a relationship and Creighton's need to learn how to talk instead of command, but overall, I thought they were good together. They both simply accepted each other as they were and they definitely had chemistry.

The plot was well paced and I was kept interested, though not totally hooked, the entire way through. I enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

A Highlander's Obsession was a wonderful read that I quite enjoyed. With the delightful mix of magic and romance, this book was great. It wasn't perfect, but I still liked it. Romance lovers, you might want to check this book out.

Paisley-A veterinary assistant with a gift that can be a curse.

Creighton-A bear shifter Highlander that needs to break a curse.

When these two meet up, you know the sparks will fly.

Paisley can communicate with animals telepathically and has made use of this gift by helping animals. But her fiancee wants to exploit her gift while she prefers to hide it. She doesn't want to be rejected and viewed as different when people find out about her gift.

Creighton is leery when Paisley and her Grams show up on his doorstep for a funeral of a family member and as heirs to the land. He has been lead to believe they want to sell his beloved land to evil corporations and his Clan will be forced off. His protective Alpha side shows up immediately. But, there is also a curse to consider and Paisley may be the cure for that.

This was my first shifter romance and I am hooked. The characters are so real, as they are in all of Vonnie Davis' books. You feel the emotions as you read and you can't help but cheer on the good and wish for the come-uppance of the bad. While the animal shifting is paramount to the plot, it is not overdone and you can almost believe it is possible. She makes what we perceive as unreal to be just another character development and make you believe it.

If you like Highlanders (and who doesn't), steamy romance, a shot of humor and a bit of paranormal, than this Bear Shifter, paranormal romance is just for you.

A Highlander’s Obsession by Vonnie Davis

What can I say about this book? It’s by Vonnie Davis. For me, that pretty much says it all because she's done it again. But for those who haven’t read any of this author’s fabulous writing I’ll say more. A Highlander’s Obsession is a fun story with a range of characters. Good guys, bad guys, lovely women and pink hair. A funeral, talking animals, and laughter to shake your belly. I loved this story.
What’s hotter than a bear shifter? How about a Scottish bear shifter? Oh, yes. Add in lots of hot sensuality and romance to melt your heart when Paisley Munro clashes with Creighton Matheson, and you're set for a nice little journey into the Scottish hill country.
Oh the poem Paisley recited for Creighton... I won’t put it here. That’s one crumb you’ll have to find for yourself.
I was glad to see Paisley come around and follow her heart in the end.

I don’t know if it was intended, but the Pooh bear references tickled me. After all, what bear doesn’t love him some sweet honey? My favorite line? There are too many to count, but this one is on the list: Oh, hell, I think I just kicked a sleeping bear. And this one might be the top of that list: If he so much as touched her, she’d sex-destruct.

Only Ms. Davis could make sex talk so fun! I can’t wait for book two in this trilogy! Well done. Another hit in my opinion.

At first I thought it was a historical because of the cover (which I love) but it's a PNR contemporary. I love shape-shifters and I LOVE highlanders so I had to read it. I enjoyed this book. Creighton Matheson is Laird to the clan of shape-shifter bears that have roamed that area of Scotland for centuries. Paisley Munro has come to Scotland to accompany her Gram for the reading of a will. Paisley is an animal communicator. Upon meeting Creighton she hears his thoughts and faints at his feet. Creighton knows Paisley's the one, now to make Paisley his when both their lives are shrouded in secrets. Creighton is one hot alpa male probably one of the most alpha I've read in a while. I loved every minute of him. I like Paisley but she spent most of the book an emotional wreck. Most of which I understood and made sense but sometimes I just wanted ti shake her.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book. I loved the secondary characters. This book will make you laugh, cry and sigh. I highly recommend it.

I just had the privilege of reading Vonnie Davis' newest novel "A Highlander's Obsession" and let me tell you it doesn't disappoint! FIVE STARS all the way. The very first page had me laughing out loud which is something I never do reading a book. The main characters are Paisley Munro who can communicate with animals {which helps in her job as a veterinary assistant} and Creighton Matheson a Scottish laird. Paisley accompanies her Gran to Scotland to attend her Uncle's funeral. Lots of twists and turns in this adventure. I love that it is a "complete" story and yet you still want to find out what else happens in books 2 and 3 which I hope is soon to come. I hate it when you reach the last page only to find out you have no idea what happens with the main characters until the next book! If you love paranormal romance, with a dash of mystery then I urge you to read this book, I know you won't be disappointed.

"Being a bear brings us more freedom." He tilted his glass and swallowed its contents. "Sometimes I'd sooner stay a bear."

A HIGHLANDER'S OBSESSION by Vonnie Davis is the first book in her new Highlander's Beloved series. It features hunky Highlanders who just happen to also be bear shifters and sports quirky humor galore with oodles of sweet and hot romance! Sprinkle a bit of magic over the mix and the result is a wonderfully entertaining debut for this new series! A HIGHLANDER'S OBSESSION is the story of American Paisley Munro and Scottish Laird Creighton Matheson. The characters truly shined!

True love needs no words in this riveting paranormal romance when animal communicator, Paisley Munro shares a simmering attraction to Creighton Matheson. This fascinating story has lots of intriguing elements and charming characters to keep the reader well entertained. Lots of humor and passion adds spice to the story while the author’s fantastical origin of the Highland bears and the Matheson curse adds lots of depth to the story. Once I started reading, I had to turn every page until I had read every last word, not to mention the sexy highlanders in kilts who shift into bears and I can’t wait to read the next two books in this charming trilogy.

4 ½ STARS

Vonnie Davis is now one of my favorite authors. She nailed it with this book. I love my Highlanders and this is good enough to join them. There are some braw men, ladies who need rescuing and the bears after the men shift due to a curse. There are a couple of turns to the plot with an ex fiancee and a drug problem. Creighton is floored when he meets Paisley and her Aunt Effie. They have lots of moments and a shooting to complete their lives. I had a hard time walking away from this story. If you like clans and Highlanders, women with problems and shifters you will love this book. Enjoy! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
