Just finished up a 10 week Bible study on James. This book was broken into 10 weeks with basically 5 days of homework for each week (read through certain verses and answer questions), so this book was basically those questions coded as either observation (get answers directly from text), interpretation (what was the meaning), or application (apply to your own life). So I would read through the verses in James each week that were listed in the book, answer questions and then would meet with my group on Wed. Nights to either go through these questions and/or go though James itself and discuss. James is a short book, only 5 chapters and in my Bible only 4 pages, so this dove pretty deep and was pretty convicting for everyone in my group. Themes in James included humility, rich vs poor, patience, trials, steadfastness, judging, and praying. Some of the questions were somewhat tough to answer and some of them weren't really questions but more of statements or directions, but overall enjoyed going through this and learned a lot.
Great Bible study for women but even greater if you’re discipling those who are adolescents! Keri really helps the participants to sit in the text and meditate on what Gods word is revealing about Himself! This is the second study I’ve done by her with a junior high student and I have seen how we both are more prone to using scripture to interpret scripture.
My only critique is that some of the questions seems repetitive in a way that isn’t necessarily productive but other than that, I have found it useful and approachable.
Love this series of study guides! Instruction is clear and biblically faithful. I also love that this author uses symbols to illustrate when a question involves observation, interpretation, or application which is particularly helpful when utilizing with folks newer to Bible study. Keri Folmar’s Bible studies are a gift the the Church!
It was a refresher. In depth study of the book of James. Good self examination questions and mature way of looking at sufferings and trials. I really im so helped by this book. Highly recommend it.
This is an excellent Bible Study for the current climate of our world. Believers were scattered all over the world after Stephen was stoned and needed James’ guidance to keep their faith strong and not give into fear. During our current situation of social distancing, we too are missing time spent with other believers and struggle with fears. This study really helped me to see what it means to have a steadfast faith even in the midst of trials.
Such a greet Bible study!! Loving digging deeper into James and I especially loved learning more how to do an inductive Bible study. Highly recommend!!
