It's no secret that women today are juggling a lot. We now make up more than half the workforce in the United States and are busier than ever with partners, children, family and friends, often putting the needs of others ahead of our own.
And if we feel overwhelmed by it all or fall short of perfection, many of us have learned to be our own worst critic rather than our own best friend.
In Warrior Goddess Training, bestselling author HeatherAsh Amara provides the antidote to the flawed idea that you are not enough.
Direct, honest, and unapologetic, Amara will show you how to release the layers of expectations to finally see yourself for the authentic, perceptive, perfect woman you really are.
If you don't love and honor yourself with every fiber of your being, if you struggle with owning your power and passion, if you could use more joyful play and simple presence in your life, then it is time for an inner revolution.
It is time to claim your Warrior Goddess energy.
Drawing on the wisdom from Buddhism, Toltec wisdom, and ancient Earth-based goddess spirituality, the Warrior Goddess path includes personal stories, rituals, and exercises that will encourage and inspire you to become the true warrior goddess you are meant to be.
Amara has spent the last three decades weaving together earth-based wisdom, mindfulness, and practical strategies for creative, courageous, and compassionate individual and community change. She is the author of 9 books, including the bestselling Warrior Goddess Training series and The Seven Secrets of Happy and Healthy Relationships with don Miguel Ruiz Jr.
Her newest book, Wild, Willing, and Wise: An Interactive Guide for When to Paddle, When to Rest, and When to Jump Naked into the River of Life will be released July 30th through St. Martin's Essentials.
When she’s home, HeatherAsh plants her feet in New Mexico but as a lifelong nomad, she spends most of her time traveling, teaching, and writing in cafes around the world.
I am a man. This book wasn't written for me, but I am so glad that HeatherAsh Amara has invited women everywhere to step into their most powerful, natural selves in this way.
Frankly, it is a confusing time for men. Our traditional roles and expectations are changing in major ways and we need women to meet us with honesty, love, and a commitment to themselves. When they do, it helps us make the transition to a more balanced way of relating. Evolving men need warrior goddess women more than ever right now.
That is exactly what HeatherAsh Amara is teaching in this wonderful book of hers. I have learned a lot from her in live classes. She has led me on firewalks more than once. She embodies the raw, vulnerable, loving life and now she is asking other warrior goddesses-in-waiting to step off the sidelines and join her.
Thank you, HeatherAsh! You are making the world a better place.
This book is strong medicine delivered gently and with so much love.
This was so beautiful and empowering in a million different ways. It was just what I needed after getting out of a toxic, narcissistic relationship and trying to heal and find myself. This is one I will go back to every once in awhile for sure.
I read it through and I can feel myself shifting. I want to read it again, slowly, chewing on it, completing the exercises, and journalling as I go through it. I have no words for the impact it made. All I can say is it resonated, deeply. I know this book was meant to be in my hands and imprinted on my heart.
Generic, familiar message--nothing particularly new or inspiring and oddly devoid of personal flavor. The very last section with the description of the temple ritual--*that* was what I was expecting and gave texture, character, flavor, and depth to the concepts. The bulk of the text was kind of bland and did not feel like fresh insight, but instead very similar to any other in the "self-help" genre--tossing a few "warrior goddesses" in semi-randomly does not make this an actual goddess spirituality book. There was a recycled quality to the book, as if the Goddess was just tossed in a few times to try to make a connection with a specific group of people, rather than being an authentic path of depth and connection and meaningful personal practice.
(I'm not fond of goddess used as a buzzword--"we're all goddesses!!!!! Rah!"--there's no complexity or thealogical understanding and rather it feels like being called "divas" or "princesses.")
I will be rereading. It's that good. I was sad when it was over!
Initially, I wasn't sure what to think. Would this be a self-help book filled with flowery language? Could it live up to Don Miguel Ruiz' albeit distant and general but glowing introduction? Was this just another appropriation of someone else's culture? Would it really help?
I'm glad I sat through it to give Amara a chance. Over 10 days, I read each lesson daily and found myself really laughing, crying, thinking hard (as well as passively) about my life and actually finding peace within the exercises.
You don't have to be "damaged" to read the book. In fact, we're all imperfect, perfect bits of the complete, perfect universe. This book pushes you to tune in to the world within and the world around you to realign them as one. The practices are simple and really common sense but how many of us are truly willing to just sit down and reassess why things are how they are and actively change them?
If you are familiar with Don Miguel Ruiz (The Four Agreements) teachings, you will recognize HeatherAsh as an apprentice. Her teachings are an extension of The Four Agreements geared towards women.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is in an interactive format; with exercises ending every chapter. I admit I was too lazy to act on them other than as a mental action. Nevertheless I appreciated the concept of diving into the teachings.
Overall, I would recommend this book to any woman who chooses to hike the path of inner consciousness and personal awareness. Through her teachings and lessons she offers you the opportunity to dive as deep as you wish or just dip your toes into the waves.
Very empowering book! It encourages you to be the very best you that you can be and to not conform to societies expectations just to fit in and be accepted. If you stay true to yourself and heal yourself everyone around you will benefit.
Parts of this book spoke to me, others not so much. That's not to say that the information and suggestions weren't good, but certain chapters felt more applicable to me in this moment.
I will hold onto this book and reread it in the future...maybe the other areas will be more useful to me then.
Honor yourself, clear out old beliefs, speak your truth...I feel many women forget these important rules of self-love and need to be reminded. I have never read a "self-help" book and I found it difficult to concentrate at times. I enjoyed it for what it was, and would recommend it.
I would definitely recommend this book to women who want to learn to untangle the false beliefs and negative thoughts that are holding them back from living their most inspired life. The title is a little silly, perhaps, and there is a bit of "hippie-dippie" language in there but if you can ignore some of that and really focus in on the lessons themselves, it can be a very powerful book. I wrote out each of the exercises, even the ones I thought I wouldn't learn much from or didn't want to do, and definitely had some "ah ha" moments and breakthroughs. Overall, I found the book helpful.
Warrior Goddess Training has been such an amazing inspiration and is changing my life. Heather's words ring in my head and although change is slow, I am unlearning bad habits and learning good ones. I FEEL better. I am on the path to being a gentler, more empowered, more compassionate, and happier woman. The information and advice in this book is realistic, approachable and oh so very true. It isn't full of new age nonsense and I would not classify it under self-help. This is a book for woman who realize they are not their best selves, not living their best life, and are ready to change and embrace a full, more empowered, happier life. There is a better way to be and a better way to live. Let Warrior Goddess Training be your guide.
this book combines the wisdom of many traditions into one beautiful path. consistent throughout these teachings is the understanding that an idea means nothing without a corresponding step toward action…and the path of the Warrior Goddess is forged in love.
for me, it’s ten simple but essential lessons that are distilled down from her own inner revolution to become authentically + unapologetically her best self. each story + ritual + exercise shares one common intention: to help you with the sacred remodeling of your life + its flow of force. your cells will rearrange themselves with every word.
I hadn't expected to like this one THIS much, but in the realm of spiritual self-help it's actually one of the better ones I've read. It's kind, loving, open, insightful. Not necessarily new, but patient. It doesn't tell you "read this and you're no longer broken" but "this is a step on your way of realising you're not broken and it's okay to take your time". Not literally, but you get the point. And it's fierce and fiery at the same time. If you just want to read the one spiritual self-help book, I'd recommend this one.
I came to this book and its author cold. lots of words but not enough detailed takeaways and lessons. this book could probably be shortened to a handful of chapters. things I didn’t like: points deducted: there's a forward, preface, introduction, and then explanation of key terms before we even reach lesson 1?? are you effing kidding me??? I dunno. if you're new to self help and law of attraction this might be helpful. but mostly it feels like info that's already been covered in other books, just repackaged with new names for this one. I'm two chapters in and nothing has really hooked me or dropped the mic. when she said her husband was moving to Colorado she didn't say was leaving her. lack of exercises at the end of each chapter. the info about dealing with sexual assault was so incredibly sparse; it was barely a page. nothing in this book is like a wow of epiphanies. if you're unfamiliar with self-help and energy healing maybe this book might be helpful. disappointed. things I liked: changing your story is probably the most powerful advice in this book. a few exercises towards the end of the book that were decent.
I didn't actually make it the whole way through this book. I had trouble following it because it made me uncomfortable. I personally have a hard time with people who try to help others by offering a coaching service. Coaches don't require licensure or certification so there isn't much accountability. This felt too coach-y for me I think. A little too full of unverified claims; too much woo.
This book was amazing and just what my soul needed. I recommend it for every woman looking to heal past hurts and live a more authentic life. It's the kind of book you read more then once.
This book was homework for my narrative therapy counseling. I wanted to scoff at it and hate it, but there were some kernels of truth that were pretty compelling.
This book was absolutely lovely and I'm so grateful to have read it. The book is, as stated, like a training manual with various exercises and journal prompts to get you examining the life you currently lead. My recommendation is to read it all the way through, then go back and work on each lesson or chapter a little at a time. Overall its a great book for anyone struggling to find ways to honor their desire for a freer way of living and rid themselves of all the baggage that comes with living in our current society. The chapter on speaking your truth was the most impactful for me while some of the others were less applicable or usable. I am considering buying this book for a few friends and family as a gift along with a blank journal to scribble away the nonsense that piles up in our easily distracted and crazy brains.
This book has been on my TBR list for a little while. I decided to grab it on @audible and listen to it while driving to work.
First: The narrator was amazing. Her flow of speech was so easy to listen to and she made it heart felt. With a book like this, that, in my opinion, is essential.
Thoughts on the content: I love the thought of a Warrior Goddess!! As women we’re told to be “silent” and to not create ripples. The idea of being a Warrior is empowering on so many levels. That alone was what had me hooked. I really enjoyed the conversation style of the book. It felt like you were sitting with a dear friend and listening to her story unfold and it’s one that I could relate to deeply.
I really loved that she is connected to @donmiguelruiz (the Four Agreements) and that those teachings flow throughout this book. As a woman that is connected to the Earth, I loved the Earth based spirituality aspects of this book as well. @heatherashamara really makes you stop and think about the inner narratives we’ve been telling ourselves and asks us to get to the root of our beliefs. She helps us to realize we are so much more than the titles we give ourselves and that it’s okay to be Women first….and all things else second.
A quote in the book: “The keystone of committing to yourself is very simple: Learn to love all of who you are, flaws and all.” That is the journey I am currently on, a journey of finding myself and learning to love myself fiercely flaws and all. Not an easy task…but this book has given me some amazing tools to use.
At first I was hesitant. I didn't expect to find myself reading another self help book, but after hearing her speak at the Shamanism Summit, I wanted to know about her as her words resonated deeply with me. The first couple chapters felt too familiar, meaning lessons and personal growth and wisdom I've already been exposed to and have been working on for years. But as the lessons in her book progressed, I found truth. New lessons, new territory, things I didn't even realize I've avoided, she brought right to the forefront. There are many, many teachers we can learn from out there. People offering all kinds of learning, growth, certificates, workshops. True discernment and authentic intuition, (which she covers beautifully in this book), is about feeling into what resonates deeply with the essence of who we are. Which means, if we are really paying attention, and if we are really doing the work, we don't really need more than what we already are.
I found it very hard to connect with this book. This was a bookclub recommendation, so I did finish reading it and found a lot of benefits to the discussions that came out of it, but I just didn't resonate with a lot of it myself.
I read another reader's review about this book before I started reading it and they said something about the privilege of the author and how a lot of the advice seemed somewhat shallow and catered to people of privilege. I didn't understand what they meant at the time, and forgot about the review until I got to Lesson Eight, Speak Your Truth. It occured to me that with all of the advice and exercises for speaking your truth, there was zero acknowledgement towards the *safety* of speaking your truth. I was already losing interest with the book, but that's when it completely lost me.
In my travels around the internet, I went down a rabbit hole and encountered HeatherAsh Amara. HeatherAsh has studied with Four Agreements author, Don Manuel Ruiz. She crafted an empowering class for women called Warrior Goddess Training that draws on the Four Agreements to help women step into their own powerful selves. Learning to speak up, find their passion and support other women.
There are many truths in this training book that I've heard before, but often we need to hear this message again and again until we "hear" the truth for ourselves.
If you are on a similar path at this point in your life, this book is recommended
Like stumbling into a dark cave, lighting a match, and finding it thickly ablaze with star-studded crystal gems.
“Your people survived to create you. You are proof that your ancestors were resourceful, creative, and determined. You are proof of love passed down heart to heart, through generations… Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands.” 57
“You must be willing to give up who you think you should be in favor of who you are.” Xvii
“When you open your heart to yourself, quirks and all, you change the world. When you let go of pleasing others because you think you have to, when you relinquish trying to squeeze yourself into a metaphoric shoe that doesn’t fit so you can be accepted, you come home to the comfort of yourself… each step in your healing, no matter how tiny, ripples out to heal everyone around you.” 149
My friend lent this book to me so you know what that means right? It’s mine now. And I’m very grateful. Thanks, babe <3 There are 10 lessons in this book that takes you on a sacred path of transformation toward our authentic, embodied power. To be the woman you are meant to be, not who others think or want you to be. The path of the Warrior Goddess. WARRIOR ENERGY: focus, dedication, determination It gives us our power GODDESS ENERGY: creative flow, love, passion, wisdom. It is our sacred inner voice.
You are whole, you are powerful, you are divine. Remember who you are, let’s unearth her, let’s reclaim her.
I found this very inspiring and useful. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I've ready a bunch of 'goddess empowerment' books and I wasn't very impressed with most of them. This one has deeper wisdom than some of them though. Maybe it's because the author has been initiated in the indigenous Toltec wisdom. It's quite short, but actually in this case it really gets to the point and delivers a lot of value.
the most beautiful book for women that I have ever read, this book guided me to start a journey of transformation, inspired a journal full of entries, and was captivating at every turn ☺️
