Edith espies a gorgeous black Shetland Pony and is obsessed with capturing the beast. She convinces her pal Little Bear to help her catch the horse, which takes some doing. Many of the shots of Edith makes the doll appear disturbingly real, as usual. Other details in this great picture book are:
1. Mr. Bear drives a car even though his teddy bear paws can't reach the brake and accelerator.
2. Little Bear wears kinky engineer boots in some of the shots.
3. Little Bear finally got his wish to go fishing after helping her catch Midnight The Pony.
While on summer vacation, Edith sees a vision of a pony in her dreams. Determined to make her mirage a reality, Edith and Little Bear set off to find–and tame–the pony for their own. But their success in luring him with apples and catching him with a rope leave Edith disillusioned. “How would you like to have a horrid old rope around your neck?” Instead, they corral him with kindness and domesticate him with friendship until even skeptical Mr. Bear concedes, “He’s your pony. I believe it.” A charming, heartwarming story for horse-lovers and toy-lovers alike!
