An illustrated primer on the natural sciences. I remember loving this book as a kid, but as an adult I've found it to be even more instructive. The diagrams on every page are wonderfully effective for visual learners like myself.

An encyclopedia format giving a brief introduction into the basic workings of many aspects of nature. Many of the articles seemed like the introduction to a larger article, a couple even stopped mid-sentence, and left me looking for the rest.
