I LOVED this book! I love this author and her ability to pull me into the story!

Max Farber is one of the wealthiest men in pre-WWII Germany. He has everything he could possibly want, except a purpose for his life. Emilie Morgan is a German-American who despises everything Nazi, including her uncle Josef's wealthy Farber friend. As time passes and Germany rises in power but crumbles in honor, a Scarlet Pimpernel for the Jews suddenly arises and Emilie begins to realize that there is more to her surroundings than meets the eye. Could it be that not all Nazis agree with Hitler's plans to destroy the Jews?

This summary is only a tip of the iceberg. Many other characters and stories make this book a detailed account of Germany's events leading up to the second world war. I look forward to reading Part 2: Jewel in the Evening Sky

This book is no longer in print so you'd have to borrow it from me or find it on Amazon. This is unfortunate because it is one of my absolute favorites; I've read it two or three times. This book is particularly interesting because it takes place in Germany right before the Nazis came to power so you are able to see how a great country was poisoned by such evil. Minatra's brilliant fiction is from the perspective of a young Nazi playboy, an American reporter, a Rabi and his niece and a Jewish family.

This was a well researched book that even though fiction, provides an overall picture of Hitler and what happened to Germany under the Third Reich.
