In Thalia’s world, there is no need for food—everyone takes medication (or “inocs”) to ward off hunger. It should mean there is no more famine, no more obesity, no more food-related illnesses, and no more war. At least that's what her parents, who work for the company that developed the inocs, say. But when Thalia meets a boy who is part of an underground movement to bring food back, she realizes that most people live a life much different from hers. Worse, Thalia is starting to feel hunger, and so is he—the inocs aren’t working. Together they set out to find the only thing that will quell their hunger: real food.
H. A. Swain delivers an adventure that is both epic and fast-paced. Get ready to be Hungry.

The book I am doing this quarter is called Hungry by H.A. Swain. The lexile of the book is HL760L. Hungry is about a girl named Thalia Apple who suffers of hunger throughout the book . The book is also Science Fiction, and is for young adults. Thalia lives in the inner loop. In addition there is an outer loop and a innerloop, the inner loop is considered “safe”. In the inner loop there is no real flood due to a war that had happened before Thalia was even born. Since Thalia and her family dont have food to eat they must take medication to help “cure” their hunger. Her parents work for the compound that makes this drug/medicine. Although Thalia is taking the drugs for her metabolism, she begins to feel hungry more and more. One day when Thalia is going shopping, she meets a boy, Basil, who is from the outer loop. Basil is part of an underground movement to bring food back and stop lying to people that there is no more food left. He tells her there are many people that also feel hungry too. He shows her food smells and they get caught. They leave the inner loop and enter the outer loop while being chased by cops coming from the inner loop. They reach their destination, the outer loop, where they find Basil's family. Basil gives Thalia real food and she enjoys it. Later on the mother and father ( who was trying to catch Basil a while ago) and grandmother go find Thalia and live with Thalia and Basils family and they all eat food. In Hungry, the point of view is in Thalia. She is trying to talk about world hunger, and that people just waste and just die due to malnutrition. The main theme is pretty much ending world hunger. The main rising action parts of the book is when she eats the food or when Basil is almost arrested. Now that I have read this book I think more of world hunger and makes me feel bad for those who do get to eat as much as we do. Some people just eat for challenges or when they are bored and it should actually go to those who only get three meals a week instead of three meals a day. I also would recommend this book for 12+.
