The NKJV has been my Bible of choice for the past five years, and when I made that decision I chose the Nelson Study Bible as my personal text. For the most part, the extra material is conservative enough without being fundamentalistic. It has too many helpful features to ennumerate in a brief review, but one that I really like and use a lot is the extensive set of study notes at the bottom of each page. The layout is user-friendly, and the relatively large text for the Scriptures is a welcome sight for my tired old eyes. I've read this study Bible at least eight times, and it remains fresh and interesting.
It hasn't always been easy adjusting from the King James to the New King James. Several passages are stilted in the reading, almost as if the translators decided to abandon the poetic beauty of the King James altogether in favor of a fully copyrightable edition. I hate to see intellectual property interests weigh in that heavily in a Bible, but it's all the rage over the past three decades. Nevertheless, the NKJV is a fine translation for those whose inclinations lead toward the Textus Receptus, as mine do.
Having used this bible exclusively for the past few weeks, I was testing how I would like it, and found that it is just what I was looking for in a study Bible. This Bible is for my daily reading, with a 23 page of subject index, a 194-page concordance, 69 color maps throughout the bible, I love this, and 7 pages Harmony of the Gospels. The book is a little heavy for my purse at 2.7 pounds, and is the size of a standard book at 8”, but it is 2 1/4” thick, so I can’t quite carry it around comfortably. I use it as it is intended as my study Bible, and find it really handy. So I for one am very much enjoying what is offered with this Study Bible, and am so glad to have received it! I received this book through Thomas Nelson Publishing and was not required to give a positive review.
Almost exactly the same as the King James Version Bible (KJV), but with occasional modifications of archaic wording that is no longer used in English. It largely retains the middle English wording in its verses, but occasionally makes clarifying alterations of a word. Since it is the same translation as the KJV, but is slightly modernized it is called the New King James Version Bible or NKJV. I recommend it for better understanding the meaning of scriptural passages found in your King James Bible.
This beautiful study Bible puts a wealth of information at the readers fingertips. Key Words, outlines, timelines, and one of the best Concordance's I have ever used, are found within it's Leathersoft binding. I loved the ability to cross reference verses as well as read cultural notes that bring the Bible to life. It is in a format called "comfort print" which is easier to read and makes the text clearer. The format of the pages is separated by color and design, with boxes for translator notes as well as "key word" definitions. There are over 15,000 verse study notes, bringing a richer, fuller understanding of the text, particularly when the Concordance and Index are used. This Bible is a "lay flat" binding which makes highlighting and reading so much easier. It is also filled with full color pictures and descriptions of people, places, and timelines which enriches devotional time, helping the Word of God come to life. This is a great gift for a new Christian, graduation gifts, and particularly as a gift to anyone who desires to learn more about the gift that is the Holy Bible. This version will definitely give a deeper understanding of scripture to everyone who reads and studies it.
This was a great study Bible. The notes were informative, but not overwhelming. This edition is a great starting place for someone looking to dive deeper into the Word.
I am planning on reading through the NASB and ESV in the next couple of years, but I believe the NKJV will be my "every day" Bible of choice. Definitely a wonderful translation.

My Review: This is a hard-cover Bible with a jacket. Without the jacket it is brown marbleized and very masculine. The spine has gold lettering.
This is my first experience with the NKJV Bible as I am old school and still study the KJV, yet I found it to be very user friendly. I was very impressed with the study helps located on each page. The maps, photos and timelines are very impressive. I would say on average about one-third to one-half of the page is devoted to scripture and the rest to study points, thus making the book very heavy. It is not a Bible that I would find myself carrying to church, but it is one that I would refer to in my studies. I loved the cross-references, text notes and especially was impressed with the prophecies full-filled. I was somewhat disappointed that Jesus’ words were not in red, although I can adjust or use my KJV to read the red-letter verses and the print is very small so I would not recommend it for the visually impaired. All in all I am happy to have this as part of my Bible Study Library. I can see me using it often, maybe not as my daily use Bible, but definitely as a study help. I would recommend this to anyone who is seeking a Bible Study reference that is very detail oriented. I am very impressed.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of this Book by the publisher, Thomas Nelson, through BookLook Blogger program for review. I was not required to write a favorable review nor was I compensated for my review. The opinions in this review are my own.

After using this Bible for doing research and Bible study, I have found that it is very helpful and informative. The full color photographs and graphics are very pleasing and eye catching. The textual notes are helpful, and detailed; not to mention the word studies and indexes.
I found the book introductions, outlines helpful for the studies I was doing, and the notes came in handy.
I would say, for a person looking for a study bible, this one would be one of preference. It is in a "version" that is accepted by all, easy to read. The font (type) is easy to read for all eyes, and the Bible is laid out in an easy read format.
It would make a great gift for yourself, your pastor, a first study bible or your 100th. This is a great tool to have on your bookshelf.

This is a wonderful bible. The arrival of this bible was absolutely perfect. I was beginning a new study in prayer and it was suggested that you read the Gospel of Luke so you can learn about prayer from Jesus. As I opened the Bible to Luke the first thing I noticed was the reference given to the author, time, key verse and it also gives a theme. These areas gave me a good reference for what I was about to read. For a lot of people these are important elements when beginning to read God's word. The text is in NKJV which conforms to the thoughts flow of the of the 1611 Bible. There are subject headings to assist the reader in identifying topics and transitions in the biblical content. Words or phrases in italics indicate expressions in the original language which require clarification and there are also cross references and translator's notes. At the bottom of each page are verse-by-verse study notes and theological notes. The words of Jesus are in red.
There were many things I liked about this Bible. -First, the text is easy to read and understand. -Second, the study notes further explained the scripture and helped with comprehension and implementation of the scripture. -Third, I liked the background given of the author. I don't believe I had ever heard this before. -Fourth, the time frame. -Fifth, the theme of the Gospel. In the back of the book gives theological notes and index by title and a large concordance that is very helpful when looking for something directly. Then lastly there are 8 pages of full-color biblical maps. Each is very precise and beautifully illustrated. The only thing I didn't really like about this book was the print size. If the font had been larger it would have been better. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a study bible. *I received this book free from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. When I first received the Foundation Study Bible, I was impressed first by the compact size of the bible. The lettering looks to be about 6 to 7 point so if you are needing a larger size lettering, this isn't the book for you. The pages are broken into two columns, with divisions on the bottom page containing reference to verse context as well as related scripture references.
Each book of the chapter shares the author, time, key verses and theme which is helpful for those who are looking to get a good overview of the Bible.
Along with a Theological note context index in the back and full color maps, this is a wonderful made bible for those who are leaning into a study bible that will aid them in reading and studying the bible.
The NKJV is a good version in that it doesn't have all of the Old English/Shakespearen language of the KJV with modern language, although there are some areas where occassionally the KJV will pop up.
This is important for those who are not quite ready for the "Modern English" versions, but aren't into the "Thee's" and "Thou's" of the KJV.
The preface is nice and it was helpful having the explanation of the difference in translations, this helps those who may wonder what is the difference in language and a lot for the more seasoned readers, undertand that translations are based on getting as close to the actual translations from the Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew that was originally used.
Overall, this is a no frills bible. It is what is says it is, a study bible geared toward helping the growing Christian get a more deeper understanding of the Bible.
This is great for those who are going to seminary, participating in bible study and I feel for the new Christian. Consider a study bible as a "training wheels" to getting into the substance of the bible.
If you are looking for the study bible to get, I highly recommend this version.
The NKJV Study Bible: Full-Color Edition is a comprehensive bible with vivid photography placed throughout enchancing the bible study experience. The photographs relate to significant subject matter and items from different eras spanning from The First Book of Moses called Genesis to The Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Book chapter introductions include helpful information regarding its author, date, historical background, Christ in the scriptures, outlines, and characteristics. In addition, chapters within books have sub-headings such as Ezekiel’s Vision of God, Job Prays for Relief, The Bridegroom Praises the Bride from Song of Solomon, and I Am Coming Quickly from The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Photographs capture clean and crisp pictures of ancient relics, statues, paintings on glazed brick, marble sarcophaguses, scenic views of bible era and modern day biblical cities and seas. The scriptures contain middle page cross-references and footnotes to augment studying and have a clearer translation of the English version King James Version bible “considering the history of usage and etymology of words in their contexts.”
Even though I use a King James Version bible for all initial reading and study, I found The NKJV Study Bible: Full-Color Edition is a nice complement to my ‘thee and thou’ version. Those who wish to read and study in a further clear English edition will enjoy using this newer translation version for a better understanding of the scriptures is highly recommended.
I received this book free from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for an honest opinion in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission Guidelines.
When I initially open this bible at random, I was floored by the extensive notes, illustrations and even the font size; This is a very user friendly bible that will enhance ones bible study/reading and it really just impressed me at the detail that has gone into the NKJV Study Bible.
Having used the NKJV, this is considered one of the more literal translations, so you will find a more word to word translation that has some features of the KJV, but what makes the NKJV different from the KJV, is that the wording is comfortable for those who are not use the "Shakesperian language" that is the KJV.
The book is heavy duty but it is also a hardback copy; I can't imagine what a leather bound copy would be like and this is a Bible that I feel one would be more likely to use at home than carry to church due to the sheer weight of the Bible.
The illustrations are detailed and as promised, colorful.
The font is eye friendly that be it early in the morning or late at night, the reader will not have difficulty using this Bible.
The paper is textbook quality that I feel you can use for note taking and highlighting, though I would recommend to still find a highlighter and pen that are not bleed through quality; This just makes a huge difference in that you don't want the ink bleeding through and unable to use the Bible or read the other page or pages.
Overall this is a beautiful translation of the Bible and a beautiful work of study quality that if you are wanting more than a curious study or read of the Bible, I highly recommend this Bible.
****Please see my very detailed review at http://thechristianreviewer.blogspot....*** I have to admit that I was fairly pleased by the Thomas Nelson NKJV Foundation Study Bible. Mind you, it didn't stand out above many other study Bibles, but is an affordable solution if you want the basics. You can get this in hardcover (this review) or in Leather-Look and also in KJV as well. The Study tools are nicely done, but like the advertisement states, it is geared toward the foundations of the Christian faith - thus the name. Therefore, it would be highly recommended for a new believer that wants to get into studying the Word of God, but still would be a decent reference/study Bible for the more mature Christian as well. It is laid out very nicely and is nice and compact. As I mentioned this review is of the Jacketed Hardcover version of the Thomas Nelson NKJV Foundation Study Bible, which I would recommend highly if you want a good desk reference study Bible with decent study notes. This Bible is printed on pretty good opaque paper (less show through from back side of pages), and has a very pleasing type face. Easy to use and compact so it feels good in the hands. Overall, I would say this is a decent study Bible - especially if you are looking for one on the more inexpensive side.

I have made it a quest to not read another book until I finish the bible. Man is it hard not to pick up a novel...But I am sure I will be better for all the time and effort involved in studying the Word. Have learned a lot that I obviously have not understood about the laws revealed to Moses. God's commandments on how to treat each other is obvious. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Guess, no one told me I should not eat pig...(swine) are pretty nasty creatures. Some of the other laws such as men should not lay with another man. Is quite obvious. (I am sure I have gay friends that would object). As long as they aren't blatantly obvious, I can ignore. (That is between God and them). But Sodom and Gomorrah was burned to the ground because of mans wickedness. Food for thought. God did punish two of Aron's sons because they disobeyed him; death was their punishment. I know I have many more pages before Jesus arises on the scene. His life is obviously my favorite; He taught man to love one another, to have compassion, and He healed people. Then he died for all of our sins.
This is another Bible I haven't read entirely through but it's the one I keep going back to...I had both the first edition and (now) second edition of this Bible...and if I had waited for the thumb indexed version it would be 100% perfect.
The NKJV is not one I can sit and just read like an NIV, TNIV or even an ESV but when I sit in church or sit down to study...it's the language I want to be memorizing and have running through my head. My church teaches from NIV in the pulpit and NASB in many studies, but I love listening to Vernon H. McGee and just referencing and nothing beats my NKJV when boarding the "Bible Bus".
Yes, I realize many feel this translation is "outdated"...but, to me, many times modern language in the NIV and ESV cannot create the impact of a NKJV.
This particular NKJV edition was very well done. There were some images and copious amounts of notes to further my understanding of the text of the bible, I am so glad I opted for this study bible as opposed to a classic bible. The only teeny complaint is the words of Jesus are not in red, I am used to seeing the red text so I could not help but miss that feature. I used this bible as my read the bible in 180 days plan, and some days were harder than others depending on the notes provided, because some areas needed more explanation. Definitely pleased with this purchase, as the new edition also came with optional downloads from Thomas Nelson that I have since enjoyed.
I like the NKJV Bible because of familiarity as my pastor in Texas, who was a great Bible teacher, used it from the pulpit. Like every other English translation, there are passages where I wonder what the translators were thinking when they translated it the way the did. But overall, it is a fairly trustworthy translation of the scriptures.
I do believe that the Nelson NKJV Study Bible, along with the Ryrie Study Bible, are the best Study Bibles you can buy today. Unfortunately, I don't believe the Ryrie Study Bible is available in the NKJV anymore.
It's a shame this study bible went out of print, for it is easily the best on the market. The margins are wide, the text large enough for legibility, and the study notes, while gently baptistic and premillennial, are thorough and helpful. Throughout the bible are many good essays.
There are a few concerns, though. Some of the essays on perseverance tend to lean towards the Zane Hodges' grace scheme. Further, the essay on Calvinism and Arminianism was misleading, as it defined Arminianism in such a way that both Calvinists and Arminians would agree with it.
I am a WOG WHom Loves to Deep Search in everything I study or write I am always constantly in deep Searching and reading all tools of wisdom and more what so have you Crucified writings this is a really awesome tool for all leadership I reccogmend This Study Study. This is one of my tools within my library is it worn out Amen it is Its worth to continue to buy or to place it within my brand new Nook.:)))
Mine is in black leather but I couldn't find it on here. This is a great tool with lots of study helps. Not only does it have notes under the Scripture, but it also has maps (in the Bible - not just in the back) which help so much in really understanding what you're reading about. There are also "In Depth" inserts, charts, "word focus" sections (they not only define the word but tell you where and how it's used) . . . This is a great Bible for someone wanting to truly study the Bible.
This is my second time through reading this study Bible. The information is new every time. I use it for study groups and to prepare for the pastor's exposition. The CD is an exceptional tool for searching passages and key words. You can even markup the pages on the CD. I would recommend this study Bible to anyone who wants to delve further into the Word of God.
Every page have a half of the actual verses that is translated into NKJV, an easier word to read while the other half is the description of what every verses mean. It is a very good book if you do not go to church and wanted to study and learn God's word, this is the book for you. It may take like forever for me to finish this bible, but I am determined to finish this bible.
