She’s the last woman in the world he’s allowed to fall for. And the only woman he wants.
There I was minding my own business, building my real estate empire, and loving life. So the last thing I needed was a series of threatening letters as I worked on my latest fix and flip sending my loving, protective dad into over-the-top-protective dad mode from the other side of the world. I’m not worried—as an internet influencer, I get a lot of strange comments that don’t mean anything. But there's no stopping my dad from calling in a favor from an old friend—Zane Lewis. Enter Smith Everette. Now I’ve got the hottest man I’ve ever seen for a bodyguard. I don’t have time for a relationship, but a little fun never hurt anyone. Until I realized that Smith is more than a good time. I’m ready to fight like hell to make him see that we have a future together. Too bad the stubborn former SEAL has the control of well…a Navy SEAL.
Easy job—easy day or so I thought.
My latest assignment should’ve been hassle free. Get to the bottom of who was sending cryptic letters to the daughter of a man my boss had served with in the Navy, a man he thinks of as his brother. Zane has two rules for this job. Number one, don’t let anything happen to Aria Taylor. And number two, don’t fall in love with her. Not a problem—love and relationships are not on my radar. My guilt wouldn’t let me. I’d tried that once and failed—spectacularly. But as soon as Aria opened the door, I realized there would be nothing easy about staying away from her. Aria was as beautiful as she was talented. Five minutes later when the sexy, flirty banter started I knew I was screwed. I might not fall in love but not giving in to my attraction would take more control than I had. The unfortunate part—Aria let me know right away she not only liked what she saw but she wasn’t interested in long-term.
But someone’s watching her, following her, threatening her. Following Zane’s first rule wasn’t a problem. I could and would keep her safe.
However, I was dangerously close to violating rule number two. Our no-strings-attached good time had turned into something more. Aria had torn down the walls I’d spent years building leaving me raw and exposed. Powerless to the promise of a future I never thought existed.
Then the threats against her take a dark turn no one expected. I’d failed again. Even if I can never have Aria, I’ll give everything I have to save her.
Warning: Smith is a spicy romantic suspense with a foul-mouthed hero who has trauma-fueled commitment issues who butts up against a witty, equally foul-mouthed heroine who knows what she wants and is willing to fight to get it.
Riley Edwards is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author, wife, and military mom. Riley was born and raised in Los Angeles but now resides on the east coast with her fantastic husband and children.
Riley writes heart-stopping romance with sexy alpha heroes and even stronger heroines. Riley's favorite genres to write are romantic suspense and military romance.
Exceptional. Unputdownable. HOT! They're the only words I can come up with for Smith by Riley Edwards and one of them isn't even a real word. I loved everything about this book. Set it the Z-Corps world, Smith is Book 3 of Silver Team. This book was a departure from the overarching plot of the series as a whole which was a refreshing break and made for an awesome stand-alone (more than any of the others).
Smith (the man, not the book) will break your heart. His past has truly broken him and with proof after proof thrown at him throughout his life, he truly believes he is not worthy of love. Luckily, with a little pep-talk from Zane, Aria is strong enough to break down Smith's walls and prove him wrong.
Packed with more Zane and more Kira, who I have dubbed Zane 2.0 more than once, readers will laugh hysterically even as they cling to the edge of their seat to find out what happens next. It's truly hard for any hero to top Zane for me but Smith sure comes dang close. Yet again, Riley Edwards manages to do the impossible and I fall more in love with each new hero in this series. Definitely an enjoyable read for everyone but especially must read for any fans of military romance, romantic suspense, alpha heroes, fearless women, and Riley Edwards herself!
Loved the banter between the characters, loved the strong personality of Aria and the way she connected with Smith. This one needed a smack in the head a few times, but nothing much... However, it felt at a time that the story was dragging and they were going nowhere except to the bedroom... All in all, a very good and entertaining story.
I loved this book! Smith and Aria’s story was so much fun. As always, I was hooked from the beginning. The suspense was great and I loved all of the cameos. I can’t wait for the next book!
This is book 3 in the Silver Team series and it could be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the previous books before this one. Along with Garrett and Kevin, because you meet and see these characters in those books. And I feel it gives you more background on them leading into their own books. She’s the last woman in the world he’s allowed to fall for. And the only woman he wants. There I was minding my own business, building my real estate empire, and loving life. I have been super impatient for all of Silver Team's stories and am always super excited when a new one is coming out. And Smith's book in absolutely no way disappoints!! I loved Aria right from the very beginning. She is super down to earth and not afraid of hard work. But beyond that, she loves her father enough to let him make sure she is safe when she doesn't think there is an issue. I love the banter she has back and forth with Smith. The chemistry they had right from the start was just plain HOT! But I also loved that these two break down walls that neither was expecting to break. They faced their own demons in order to get to the HEA that they both truly deserved. I loved how we got snippets of the team, Zane, and Kira. I loved every single thing about this book. Of course, now I am impatient for the next one. I think it will be Tim's book, but I would be happy with any. And I really can't wait for Cash's story-because CASH IS KING!!
Always a good read, if Riley Edwards wrote it. This one is no exception.
Smith is a typical RE male lead. He's super alpha, former Special Forces/SEAL/Ranger/Green Beret, not sure what all as they are starting to run together, full up with damage, and determined not to fall for Aria, the female lead. I think we all know how that usually turns out in the RE universe.
I mostly enjoy the ex military vibe you find in all RE books. The sense of righteousness, the brotherhood, the connections between male characters in particular is nice. I did feel there was an overdose of military speak/behavior this time. I felt lost at numerous points with all the acronyms and assumed knowledge of military protocol/behavior/characterizations. This series started with less of that, but this one ratcheted up all the military insider stuff. Feeling lost means less focus and enjoyment for this reader. While i like the vibe, I didn't grow up embedded in that world. I've never felt it was a necessary experience to read RE books until this one.
My other issue is the super fast super slick hookup. Don't get me wrong, I loves me a ton of heat. And I don't mind characters hitting it off right out of the gate. However, there was a light speed move to the sexy times that was just too slick. Mostly, this was about the dialogue. Sure, I love smart mouths, and dirty talk is great. But all this seemed way too polished, too perfect, and left me a little cold. There seemed to be less realness about these characters. Aria ended up feeling way too perfect, like a Mary with a filthy mouth. This woman is perfect in every single way. Gorgeous, perfect body, hard worker, loving and respectful daughter, generous to a fault, and never says a wrong word or takes a wrong step. Everyone instantly loves her. Even Smith, despite all the professed past damage, never said a wrong thing. All this perfect dialogue, perfect behavior, no missteps, and no awkwardness of any kind (until that 3/4 point, as usual) gave this romance a bit of a plastic feel to me. If you've ever watched an old Nick and Nora movie, you'll get exactly what I mean. Of course this is about the fantasy of a great romance. Still, I prefer a bit of reality in my romances.
I still liked it a lot, but these really perfect characters with their perfect dialogue and standard behaviors left this story much like a template for me. I prefer less polish, a little less military speak, and a little less predictable action. And a less pat plotline wouldn't hurt, either.
From the second Smith's eyes meet Aria's she takes his heart hostage and he knows his life has changed....that doesn't mean he accepts it gracefully, nope, he HAS to fight it tooth and nail, drag it out, act like an ass and make it painful for everyone - especially himself. But when we finally get his truth, his history and the reason he doesn't believe he is worthy, your heart doesn't just crack just a little bit more. It shatters. He isn't just a dinted hero, he was bashed, dinted, shaken up, crushed, shaken again and then for good measure blown up and when he scraped himself together he missed a few pieces....not the pieces he thinks, but the pieces that allow him to see reason, to play out ALL the what ifs and most of all the pieces that allow him forgiveness. He thinks Aria will be his demise and he will be her downfall, but what if she is his home and he is her safety? Whilst it would be easy to judge Smith and react negatively, we have to remember he is a protector, with every cell in his body and every breath he takes, so a perceived failure to protect is unforgivable. I love Aria, not only is she kickass, smart, funny and so perfect for Smith it hurts. But she also has some fantastic one liners that just ramp up the already sizzling temperatures between the two of them, tempting fate at every opportunity. They are convinced they can keep their eyes open and their hearts closed..... .....they are only lying to themselves. Everyone else can see just how deep they are, but that doesn't mean anyone can stop the wreck that has to happen before the two of them are able to claim forever. I love this series, I love every visit to Z Corps and I really love the crazy that is Zane - but Zane and KK bantering.....pure gold! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I have never read anything by Riley before, but a friend just finished this book and said it was really good, so I dove in. I read a handful of military/former military books, and this one was a lot of fun as these former military guys all work for Zane, who runs a security company. There is so much more to it than just security, but everyone has a job and does it well. Aria Taylor has grown up with her father a Captain in the Navy and knows all about the various branches and the special ops. When continues to get random letters in the mail at one of her houses she is modeling to flip, she tells her dad about them as well as a break in that happens in the house when she isn’t there. Lucas gets worried enough that he asks his friend Zane to just check it out. Enter Smith Everette. Smith is tasked with finding out what is happening and get some answers. What he doesn’t expect is this feisty lady that knows the talk of the military and makes him want to cross all the lines that Zane has put down. As Aria and Smith continue to get closer, his friends all bring her into their circle of found family, which makes it harder for Smith to keep up with their friends with benefits arrangement. Here’s the thing, I LOVE Aria’s no-nonsense attitude. She knows what she wants, and she goes for it. And Smith, he has some things to work through, but he truly wants Aria despite his past. My only wish is that there was a glossary or even a page that has some of the military terminology explained. I might have missed it, but I would have loved to see what numbers and colors meant. Regardless a fantastic book and I am ready for the next one!
I don’t know how Riley Edwards does it, but Smith hit me hard in all the best ways. This book isn’t just a page-turner—it’s the kind of story that pulls you in, messes with your emotions, and makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters.
Aria? She’s probably my favorite heroine of Riley’s ever. She’s bold, hilarious, and absolutely fearless. She’s got her life together and isn’t about to let anyone, not even her sexy, stubborn bodyguard, tell her what to do. And then there’s Smith—total alpha, total heartbreaker, and absolutely convinced he doesn’t deserve happiness. Watching these two butt heads, banter, and bring out the best (and worst) in each other is pure gold. The chemistry? Off the charts. I swear, my Kindle was practically smoking.
Riley’s magic is in how she gives you everything: action, laughs, steamy moments, and real, raw emotions that stay with you. Smith has all that intensity, but it’s also packed with heart, growth, and a dose of life lessons that hit home. This isn’t just romance and suspense; it’s a story about letting go of the past, taking risks, and fighting for what matters.
If you haven’t picked up a Riley Edwards book yet, Smith is the perfect place to start. It’s addictive, it’s emotional, and I promise, you’ll be coming back for more.
The rampant grammar and spelling issues continue (I’m pretty sure you don’t spell Cadillac “Chaldaics” and regretted is definitely not regrated)…all things a $200-300 proofread could solve. I’m not even talking editing…a simple proofread! Ask a neighbor or friend!
Anyway…at least we have a better FMC. The way she threw herself at the MMC seconds after meeting him was cringey, but she owns who she is and is a self-made go-getter. And though we unfortunately hear the eye-roll phrase “I can take care of myself!!”, she mostly follows what the security guys tell her, which is a relief.
I would suggest that the author look into the actual experience of broken ribs. First, I can’t believe she wasn’t taken to a hospital after such a severe beating. Next, she definitely wouldn’t have been tackling a much larger man and wrestling him for a gun…and she would absolutely have passed out when he pressed into her side. And finally, she wouldn’t be stomping around 2 weeks later demanding not to be doted on.
Finally, I hated that the MMC’s severe mental health issue goes unaddressed. He’s horribly affected for decades by a trauma, but in the space of a conversation and a day or two, he can magically put that all away and be blissfully happy…WITHOUT counseling?? Yikes.
This book had a little bit of everything. It had spice and action and suspense with some humor and a big found family. I always really like Riley Edwards’ military heroes. They’re all alpha and protective but have huge hearts along with a few flaws.
Smith had convinced himself he didn’t deserve a forever love. He harbored a lot of guilt over his early life and believed he wasn’t the staying type. Aria was a kick to his heart he wasn’t prepared for. She was everything he needed and didn’t know he wanted. She was funny, fierce, determined, and very off limits.
Aria grew up a Navy brat so she understood Smith in a way he was unprepared for. She was building her own empire and got in the crosshairs of evil, and Smith was tasked to keep her safe. I loved the progression of her relationship with Smith and her easy acceptance into his friend group. I loved her relationship with Jonas and her ability to go toe to toe with Zane.
This was a book I couldn’t seem to put down. The suspense at the end was intense, as were Smith’s emotions relating to the situation. It was over too soon and I can’t wait for the next book.
I love a good angsty romantic suspense story and Smith was another solid addition to the Silver Team series. Smith Everette is a complex character. To say that he's tightly wound would be an understatement. When he's assigned to look into suspicious letters that have been sent to house rehabber Aria Taylor, he's immediately attracted but knows that her father has ties to his boss so he plans to keep his distance. Aria is one heck of a character. Smart, funny and with a backbone of steel, she thinks her father is overreacting but to keep him happy, she'll listen to what Smith has to say. When returning from a wedding away, Aria notices a car following her and calls Smith immediately and that's when the action really begins! The push and pull between Smith and Aria is very real but there are a lot of obstacles in their way, from Smith's past to Aria's troubles, these two have a lot of things to work through if they want a future together. Smith was told from dual POV. It stands alone but many of the supporting characters are from previous books in the series so definitely go and read those too. It was loaded with action (which I love), angst and lots of Riley Edwards trademark heat!
Smith's read was interesting and I though Aria was a riot. Yep she went after what she wanted and she wanted Smith. Both agreed that their relationship would be superficial and not attachments. Yeah that didn't play out so well. As hard as Smith tried to keep his hands off Aria mission failed. It was a little heartbreaking to hear what actually happened to Smith and his ex. Being together for 5 years and never really convincing her she was safe with him. I think once it all came out and to a head Aria hit the nail on the head when she said his ex didn't love him. Yep blow to the gut. After 5 years of his ex's back and forth he let he go and she was murdered by her father. And the guilt trip she kept feeding Smith about the death of her mother really locked him down. When things got tense and they thought they neutralized the danger with Aria they let their guards down. They should have known better. Now I'd love to know what the hell is chaldaics. I looked it up and seriously has nothing to do with the sentence. Did she mean Cadillac and just spelled it wrong. I noticed a few out of place words LOL.
Oh well now we wait for Jonas book. This should be fun.
Smith and Aria have definitely earned a spot among my favorite Riley Edwards couples. Their banter is sharp and hilarious, their chemistry is off-the-charts, and I loved watching them push each other in all the best ways. Aria is bold, fearless, and absolutely refuses to take crap from anyone—I have a total girl crush on her. She’s exactly the kind of heroine who can dig through Smith’s walls and make him face everything he’s been carrying. And Smith? He’s gruff, stubborn, and so convinced he doesn’t deserve a happily ever after that it makes his journey all the more rewarding.
As always, the cameos from Z Corps were such a highlight. Zane’s mix of wisdom and humor stole every scene he was in, and I also loved the dynamic with Aria’s dad. Honestly, I’d read a whole book about him finding love.
The stalker–bodyguard setup is not always my favorite trope, but it worked perfectly here. The suspense had me hooked, the danger kept building, and when things took a darker turn, I was glued to my Kindle.
This is Riley Edwards at her best—steamy, emotional, action-packed, and full of that found family dynamic I love. I am so excited for Jonas and Cash!
[eARC] There are so many things that I loved about Smith and Aria’s story.
Aria is straightforward and confident in who she is as a woman. She’s not afraid to state her wants. Smith carries emotional scars from his past that have led him to believe he doesn’t deserve his HEA.Smith and Aria agree to no strings attached and to just go with their attraction for each other.
This story has fantastic banter and such chemistry that I’d be surprised smoke didn’t come out of my Kindle. I have highlighted so many passages. This is one of my favourites and really emphasises my feelings from the book:
“I knew she’d be the one who tore down my walls and have me on my knees begging her to fix me. My shields went up, but they were useless. That’s what happens when a man finds the woman of his dreams.”
Riley Edward’s is a true master of romantic suspense, and Smith is no different. Throw in many of the Z Corps characters, and this was a fantastic book. I could’ve just kept reading and was sorry when the book came to an end.
I want more of Smith and Aria, couldn’t get enough of these two from their first meet to the last page…MORE!! As soon as Smith meets Aria, he knows he’s a goner, the beautiful witty woman can hold her own and gives as good as she gets, going toe to toe with the flirtation and innuendos. She is the daughter of a Captain in the Navy who is a friend of Zane’s and calls in a favour to protect Aria when the house she is flipping is vandalized and keeps getting weird letters. It doesn’t take long for the two to give into their attraction with stipulations and as it goes on….feelings do get involved and Smith withdraws…his past in standing in the way and unless Aria can get through to him, he may lose her for good. A GREAT read with the best banter, foul mouthed innuendos between Smith and Aria that had me laughing out loud and drinking ice water to cool down. Steam, suspense, surprises and amazing characters kept me flipping the pages and once again…wanting more more more!!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Another great read by Riley Edwards. She always knows how to hook the reader into the storyline.
Smith is hired to as protection for Aria as someone is trying to scare her. Her dad is friends with Zane Lewis and asks for someone to look after her as he is still in the military.
Smith shows up at a flip she is working on and is immediately taken in by her beauty, but more than that her sense of humor and quick wit.
Of course, Zane as is his normal Mo, tells Smith to keep it in his pants and not touch the client. Even as the threat from Zane looms, Smith and Aria are so attracted to each other and the sex is so hot, they continue on. Of course, Smith has told Aria that this is only fun, and nothing can come of it as he doesn't do relationships. He has a past that he can't seem to let go and it is crushing him.
Aria's flip house is broken into and that just puts Smith on a higher alert. Jonas joins him and the banter between Aria and Jonas is too funny.
There is mystery, suspense, passion and I love that Riley brings in her other characters too.
Man meets woman. Man is instantly attracted to woman (but denies that because he isn't worthy of love). Woman has a seriously smart, witty, and snarky mouth which makes her all the more attractive to the monosyllabic man who essentially grunts all of his conversations. Fire of desire and lust burns in both of our parties so they commence to stoke the flames. I'm not going to go much further because I never reveal spoilers. Suffice it to say that Aria becomes embroiled in some problems, to absolutely no fault of her own. The only issues I have with this book is that Smith addresses Aria as "Woman" and bosses her around in bed which Aria finds sexy (bleargh). Whyyyyy can't we have a book where we still have tough-guy heroes and smart, witty, and snarky heroines who treat each other with actual respect, have a good time in bed, and actually use their proper names when addressing each other? I did like the plot line(s), I just had a problem with the Smith's Neanderthal act. I recommend the book. Read it!
Aria and Smith. An unknown danger and a request from an old friend who saved your life. Smith goes to a new protectee and finds himself in an awkward place of attraction and feelings for a woman who is off limits due to who her dad is and what his boss said and his own personal baggage. Aria has a mind of her own and immediately puts it to use with her job, quips, and openness with Smith. They are a great couple and I loved seeing the role KK, Ivy and Zane played with helping Aria know how and when to fight for this future. The danger was not what was expected, but was quite interesting and creepy as it continued to show many years and depths to the ick factor. Arias dad was a delight and I loved seeing him in this story. The ending sets up the next book and I can’t wait as I loved seeing Nebraska known as Dove to the new character, the attraction from Jonas and the sneakiness from Cash…Zane and KK are still my favorites, but Cash is king is right up there!
I fell in love with Smith and Aria while reading this one. Aria is a YouTube sensation showing her work to flip houses.Smith has been assigned to investigate when Aria receives letters every two weeks containing maybe a threat and experiences a break in at the house she is flipping. There is instant chemistry between these two and he loves that she has a smart mouth and gives as good as she gets. The two agree to a relationship that will end when the case is over neither looking for long term commitments. Smith is hiding a tragedy that occurred eighteen years ago with lasting consequences and pain. The past comes back to haunt him as danger for Aria escalates. This book had me on the edge of my seat, laughing at the banter between Smith and Aria and in tears when things get emotional. It is also super steamy. Riley Edwards is one of my automatic one click authors and I’ll read anything she writes. This book is a great addition to the Silver Team Series. Don’t miss out on this great book.
"Smith" by Riley Edwards is a captivating romantic suspense story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story follows Aria Taylor, a feisty internet influencer, and Smith Everette, a former SEAL as they navigate a complex web of threats, attraction, and emotions.
Edwards masterfully weaves together a tale of spice, action, suspense, humor, and found family, making this book a true page-turner. Smith, the brooding hero, is perfectly flawed, with a troubled past and a penchant for control. Aria, on the other hand, is a force to be reckoned with - witty, fierce, and determined. Overall, "Smith" is a must-read for fans of romantic suspense. With its perfect blend of action, humor, and heart, this book will captivate you from start to finish.
Of course Zane’s also there which makes it perfect!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow! Smith has everything you want, expect and love about a Riley Edwards book. It's hot, intense, has off the charts chemistry, plenty of action and suspense and of course the Zane factor - humour, wit, one liners, dimples and the truth. a hard-hitting, emotional and very satisfying story, Smith Everette is a goner from the moment he spies the very talented , hardworking, funny, and sassy Aria Taylor. The electricity between them sparks instantly and pretty much filterless Aria has no hesitation in going after what she wants namely Smith. He on the other hand wants her just as badly but also still held in the clutches of his past desperately wants to protect Aria from himself. It's an explosive battle, they agree to the just for now but the longer they are together the stronger those feelings and emotions grow. If only Smith could realise (and Zane and his team-mates are not backward in offering up their advice on the subject) that losing the battle might just win him everything. Action and danger ramp-up with a deadly threat after Aria, can Smith lay the ghosts of his past to rest ad claim his future before it's too late. Aria goes on to my favourite female characters list, I love her, Smith totally deserves her and she him. Totally recommend this book and it is definitely in the favourite reads category.
Zane the head of ZnCorps. Aria Taylor is a home improvement celebrity contractor. She is a smart, sassy , independent female. Smith Everette works for Z Corp on Silver team. He is an alphas protective male. General Lucas Taylor is Aria’s father and a good friend of Zane’s. Smith and Aria meet, when her father hires Z Corps to protect her. The attraction and chemistry is off the charts and explosive the meet they meet ( but both are denying the attraction. The snarky , sexy one liners add the humor and laughter to the read.
Can the issue as of who is after Aria be solved and they have a Happily Ever After?
This book has suspense, danger, intrigue, action, humor and a second chance at love.
Great Job. Riley Edwards. Y.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.u never disappoint !!!!.
Once again, Ms Edwards hits it out of the park with this book! I laughed, I cried, I literally could not put this book down!! The suspense was killing me! What a thrilling ride! I love Aria. Confident, independent, with just the right amount of sass and sexy innuendos to keep Smith on his toes. But when an unknown danger comes calling, can Z Corps save her? Smith - so dark and broody. He lives with a past that wont let him go. It dictates everything about him. But when he meets Aria he knows he has met his match. Can Aria get past the walls he has thrown up? When his past and present mix will he realize what is truly at stake? Can love win this one? I love this book!
PS - one of my favorite scenes in this book includes Mr Zane Lewis! Don’t miss it!
Another most excellent journey! Smith and Aria made quite the pair, and Idk who I loved more. Both had the heated zingers volleying back and forth no matter the topic. Aria's relationship with her dad was quite open, and yes, they'd become friends also, after the raising was mostly done. His acceptance of Smith was surprisingly fast and heartfelt; whomever made his little girl glow and would protect her with his life. All the suspense, action, and drama was primo. Their own chemistry was delicious, the humor and snark just added to all that and more. Always love the Zane-isms, and now we know where those came from. Having the whole team is always more goodness included.
Good book but a little longer than needed - read on KU
Both books 2 and 3 in this series could have been cut by 10% or more without losing anything meaningful. I like the characters and I like this team better than one of the others but not as much as two of the others.
My only complaint is there is too much to remember from book to book. I missed book 2 coming out, so I accidentally read this one first, which wasn't a big deal because this one is pretty standalone, but book 2 ties into the epilogue that is the setup for what will be book 4, which won't come out for months. It'd be nice to have a little synopsis reminding readers of what happened in previous books in the series.
This book literally has everything! Suspense, check. Spice, check. Action, check. Humor, check. Family and commitment, check. Brotherhood, check. Smith doesn't do relationships so he's the perfect one to take on a job Zane's brother in arms needs help with, protecting his daughter. The job is to keep her safe and keep his hands off. But the moment he meets her he knows, keeping her safe is something he can do, keeping his hands off, maybe not. And she makes it clear from the start she doesn't want him to keep his hands off, and she isn't interested in a relationship either. As they spend time together, he realizes she's offering him something he never knew he wanted, forever. But as the danger increases around her, all he care is that he finds a way to keep her safe, no matter the cost.
You always get one wild ride with Ms. Edward’s. Her characters are full of flaws and their family (by choice) are the little pieces of glass that make up a stained glass window. It’s a beautiful masterpiece when it’s finished and during construction. The banter in the first chapter was over the top and Smith knew he was in over his head and I was in love. “Eyes open and heart closed”, great advice, if you can follow it. This author reels you in and does not let go until you feel every ounce of angst, heartache, brilliance and joy for each and every character is felt and it’s a joy and privilege to read this author.
Smith has always been closed off and focused on work. But thankfully he gets the assignment of a lifetime that throws him for a loop. Aria needing security starts as an assignment but quickly turns into more. Smith needed a woman enough to call him on his crap and Aria is just the one to do it. When her safety becomes an issue in a much bigger way, all bets are off and Smith kicks into gear. Can Aria breakthrough Smith’s barriers to keep her at arms length? And can Aria be strong enough to push back as he’s pushing her away? You have to read to find out.
This is a good story that can stand on it's own. However, I am sure my comment will not get published due to my next comments. Why does a quality author always have to resort to using excessively the F bomb? And why always using Gods name?? The story stands on it's own. I personally find the constant use of four letter words exhausting and Unnecessary! Clearly this author is very talented . Only very uneducated use these words and only those with a limited vocabulary . I truly expect better from this quality author! If these words don't bother you you will truly enjoy this regardless.
