Optimus by Sooryakant Indrabalan and Arvind Raghavan is a thrilling dive into the ethical quagmire of genetic manipulation, blending high-stakes action with profound reflections on human nature. The story centers on Baron Adolphus, a titan of wealth and power, who views humanity as fundamentally flawed and inefficient. Disillusioned by centuries of greed and stagnation, Adolphus embarks on an audacious mission to create a superior race, Homo Optimus, through advanced genetic engineering.

The novel follows Logan and Riaan, operatives of the United Network Intelligence, as they investigate the mysterious death of their director. Their pursuit uncovers the Baron’s ominous “Project Optimus,” a plan that threatens to alter the course of human evolution. The duo must race against time to thwart Adolphus’s grand design before it’s too late. What sets Optimus apart is its deft handling of complex themes. While it’s an action-packed sci-fi adventure, the book also explores the deeper aspects of technological progress, ethical dilemmas, and the dark side of humanity’s desire for perfection.

The narrative shifts between different timelines, adding layers of intrigue without losing the reader. Adolphus’s character is particularly compelling, embodying the dangers of unchecked ambition and the perilous path of playing god. Optimus is not just a sci-fi novel but a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human in an age of technological possibilities. Fans of science fiction that challenge the status quo will find Optimus both exciting and intellectually stimulating—a must-read for the weekend.

Optimus 1 and 2 by Sooryakant Indrabalan and Arvind Raghavan is an engrossing science fiction saga that really deals with the implications of human aspiration and perfectionism. The main character, Baron Adolphus, is a disillusioned rich man who believes that human beings are inherently flawed. His solution to this is the development of a new species called Homo Optimus by advanced genetic engineering. The moral implications of his plan make up the backbone of the novel, which contests the edges of science and what it means to be human.
.
The story starts off on a suspenseful note as agents Logan and Riaan, working for United Network Intelligence (UNI), are inexorably pulled into a plot to murder people after the murder of their director, Brad Johnson. Further digging into Project Optimus, they soon uncover the Baron's master design for a world with no human imperfection. Action-packed twists and confrontational situations make the book a page-turner.
.
One of the best qualities of the book is that it has integrated real scientific advancements in the form of CRISPR technology ( the scientist in me is jumping ) to make it more realistic and heighten the sense of tension in such tense moments. The pacing never lets the story lose its speed and intercutting timelines all over kept me intrigued and adds layers to the story without ever getting confusing.
.
Although very cinematic and full of great possibilities, Optimus digs deep into deep ethical dilemmas that challenge the readers to think against the cost of scientific ambition. Though parts of the dialogue appear more movie-like, depth in the characters and the moral complexity of the story make it much more than a typical sci-fi thriller. Indrabalan and Raghavan have penned a must-read for speculative fiction fans that delves into the darker side of human progress.

-Of Agents, Chases and Glamour-
Review of Optimus by Sooryakant Indrabalan and Arvind Raghavan

Baron Adolphus doesn’t like humans much. Not just one or two or a few races but the entire species of Homo Sapiens. It’s been not just years but centuries and he feels that this species, despite the progress and innovation, Baron feels that humans have always been avaricious and inefficient. Hence, with no limit to money and resources at his disposal, he makes a genetically superior race- Homo Optimus.
The book is written in two parts, Optimus and Novus. As a majority of the action takes place in London, a fictional organisation United Network Intelligence gets involved in this matter after the demise of the director. Logan and Riaan will go to any limits to find the truth behind this untimely death.
The writers have cleverly used CRISPR (short for “clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats”) technology that research scientists use to selectively modify the DNA of living organisms and have incorporated it into their story. A google search tells us that CRISPR was adapted for use in the laboratory from naturally occurring genome editing systems found in bacteria.
The writers are barely out of school so I will not be harsh in the review. The blurb proclaims that this was written as a film script. Although I feel that the format of dialogues could have been better suited for a play, not a novel.

The story deftly balances science fiction and thriller elements, as Adolphus' vision of a new humanity spirals into a sinister plot. The protagonists, Logan and Riaan, members of the United Network Intelligence, are drawn into the mystery of their director’s sudden death. Their investigation uncovers the dangerous scope of Project Optimus, thrusting them into a high-stakes race to prevent Adolphus from realizing his dangerous dream.

What stands out in Optimus is the way it confronts moral and ethical dilemmas around genetic engineering, power, and control. The novel poses questions about the limits of human ambition and the risks of tampering with nature’s design. I loved how the author unconventionally and smartly portrayed Adolphus not as a typical villain, but a complex character driven by a misguided belief in progress and perfection.

The authors weave a fast-paced plot that keeps readers engaged, with well-timed twists and mounting tension. Logan and Riaan's struggle to outwit Adolphus creates a strong sense of urgency, while the philosophical undertones provide depth, making the reader ponder the consequences of humanity's relentless pursuit of superiority.

Overall, Optimus is a compelling and thought-provoking read, blending the excitement of a thriller with the weight of speculative fiction’s what ifs. It is a book that not only entertains but also provokes reflection on the future of humanity and the ethical boundaries of scientific innovation.

When I picked up Optimus I was instantly pulled into its intense and gripping world. From the very first page, the story took off with an adrenaline rush that had me hooked. The character of Adolphus, with his burdened view of humanity and his radical vision to create a new breed—Homo Optimus—through genetic manipulation, really intrigued me. The whole idea of someone trying to “fix” humanity’s flaws by creating a superior race was both fascinating and unsettling.
As I continued reading, I found that the book wasn’t just another sci-fi adventure; it also touched on deep, fundamental aspects of human nature and our imperfections. Despite being set in a high-tech world, the story felt incredibly relevant to our own lives, making me reflect on the complexities of technological progress and the ethical dilemmas that come with it.
One thing that really stood out to me was how the plot moved back and forth across different timelines. Normally, this kind of narrative style can be confusing, but here it was handled so well that I never felt lost. Instead, it added layers to the story, making it even more engaging.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was the perfect weekend read—exciting, thought-provoking, and impossible to put down. If you’re a fan of sci-fi that also makes you think about the bigger picture, I’d definitely recommend giving a try.

"Optimus" was a book that left me eagerly wanting more, much like a captivating Bollywood movie. This sci-fi tale presents a unique narrative where Baron aims to create a new human breed, "Homo Optimus," through genetic manipulation. The story kicks off with Baron murdering the UNI director for withholding the identity of the first Homo Optimus. Motivated by his desire to create a world without human emotions, Baron aims to completely transform humanity.

Logan and Riaan were shaken by the director's death and set out to put an end to "Project Optimus." Along with a few UNI allies, they crafted a plan to stop Baron, plunging them into a thrilling adventure that weaves through both past and present. Why are Logan and Riaan so determined to stop Baron, and what is this new breed he's creating? The story is packed with suspense and excitement—definitely worth a read!

The concept of creating a new, emotionless, and powerful human breed is truly intriguing. Even though the story is split into two parts, it remains engaging throughout, avoiding any confusion or boredom. Logan and Riaan are exceptional characters whose intelligence and mutual support add depth to the narrative. I was so engrossed that I didn't want the story to end and am eagerly anticipating the sequel.

"Optimus," written by Sooryakant Indrabalan and Arvind Raghavan, is gripping sci-fi that takes you through genetic modification and CRISPR technology. The story revolves around two parallel storylines in a suspenseful and thought-provoking narrative.

The main protagonist, Baron Adolphus, is not satisfied with homo sapiens, so, he aims to create a new species called Homo Optimus, that too using CRISPR. I found the concept of Homo optimus very innovative and unsettling.

In parallel, the two agents named Logan and Riaan from UNI in London, try to unfold the mysterious death of their director. This investigation leads them to Adolphus's project. Will the agents be able to investigate the untimely death of their director? How is it connected with Baron's project? What are Homo Optimus?

Unlock all these answers by giving this book a read. The plot is thrilling and engaging. The storylines keep you hooked till the last page. While the technical aspects of the genetic modifications might be dense for some readers, they are integral to understanding the stakes of the conflict.

I read sci-fi after a long time and definitely this was a worthy read. A good one. Give it a read. You will love it absolutely.

Baron Adolphus is a boastful narcissist who views modern humans as a burden to the world. Despite centuries of progress and innovation, he believes Homo sapiens are trapped in a cycle of greed and inefficiency. Obsessed with creating a flawless human race, he sets in motion a series of events that lead to the death of a prominent figure. But as Logan and Riaan, two operatives from a very secret intelligence agency, begin to investigate the death of their director, they uncover a far more sinister plot. Can they stand against Adolphus, a titan of wealth and power?

'Optimus' is a sci-fi, thriller that lightly explores themes of human greed, the unethical side of gene manipulation and workings of secret agencies. The book is divided into two parts Optimus and Novus breaking the entire storyline into two plots which are interrelated to each other. This is a fast paced, easy to read book of barely two hundred pages. And can be read in one sitting. Although I appreciate the concept and the weaving of plots, the story was predictable. The thought process behind the book is good but lacks proper execution. It was engaging no doubt but the narration felt pretty flat and basic. Coming to writing, it's written in layman's language, so it's a beginner friendly book.

"Project Optimus" is a gripping, thought-provoking novel that delves deep into the complexities of human nature, power, and the ethical dilemmas surrounding genetic manipulation. The character of Baron Adolphus is both terrifying and fascinating, embodying a chilling vision of progress without morality. His creation of Homo Optimus raises poignant questions about the cost of perfection and what it means to be human.

Logan and Riaan, as the protagonists, are compelling in their relentless pursuit of justice, drawing the reader into a high-stakes chase filled with suspense and moral quandaries. The dynamic between their personal motivations and their professional duties creates tension that keeps the pages turning.

The narrative masterfully weaves together science fiction with a fast-paced thriller, exploring not just futuristic advancements but the timeless flaws of humanity. The themes of greed, ambition, and the desire to transcend our limitations are explored with nuance, making the reader reflect on whether true progress can ever be achieved without losing something essential.

Sooryakant Indrabalan and Arvind Raghavan's Optimus takes readers into a dangerous world where striving for perfection could lead to catastrophe.
Baron Adolphus, the protagonist of the book, is a strong man who has grown weary of humanity's flaws. His solution? To forge a new race—Homo Optimus—through groundbreaking gene technology. Curiosity is piqued by this idea alone, but the story's execution is really excellent.

I couldn't stop reading because the story kept raising new ethical issues to complicate the already difficult ones raised by the Baron's experiment. The ethical quandaries provoked thoughtful contemplation, and the tension was evident. Optimus is a must-read if you enjoy fast-paced science fiction that pushes the edge of creativity and human nature. Will you be able to resist this captivating voyage into the future?

Optimus part 1 & 2

Operation optimus is themed around the wealthy typhoon wanting to get rid of the flaws in the human race through a structured genetic engineering in the lab and making a new race which in fact he(Adolphus) calls it as a superior race "Homo Optimus"

The urge to create a near perfect human race without imperfections led to the creation of the super soldiers. These soldiers are altered in the womb itself through gene pooling and harmone push due to which this race does not show feelings of emotions, empathy, pain and happiness etc

New inventions in the gene pooling and the development of CRISPR technology inspired the author to develop a story line around it. The narration is very interestingly built as it draws the attention of the leader especially in a dialogue format and especially when it ends on a destructive cliff hanger.

Optimus belongs to a very interesting genre which is blend of thrill and science fiction.

Can you imagine someone takes over to change what humans are and their complete existence??? Very difficult to do that right….The protagonist Baron who just hates human in all the forms. He feels that we Humans are very inefficient and worthless. Due to all this reasons he makes Optimus who is superior to the humans genetic wise…
Riaan and Logan who are a part of an organisation United Network intelligence are very much determined to find out about the death of the director..
The story is written juggling between the timelines hence I was confused a bit…but the storyline is a bit unique I would say…the characters are portrayed in a nice way.. although I am not a fan of this genre but this story made me read it..

In Adolphus’ eyes, the burden of humanity weighs heavily upon him. Despite centuries of progress and innovation, he perceives Homo Sapiens as a species entrenched in a cycle of greed and inefficiency.

A formidable titan of wealth and power, Baron Adolphus is fueled by a fervent yearning to rid the world of the flawed Homo Sapiens. He delves into the shadows of genetic manipulation and crafts a new breed - Homo Optimus - a superior race surpassing human potential.

As Logan and Riaan, operatives of the United Network Intelligence, unravel the mysterious and untimely demise of their director, they find themselves entrapped in the Baron’s grand design. To escape the clutches of his sinister plan, they must race against time to halt the progress of “Project Optimus” before it’s too late.

With a heart pounding narrative it's an action packed sci-fi thriller instantly plunges you into this thrilling journey.

The well articulated story line makes readers intrigued and action scenes are cheery on the cake but as the plot goes on the slow character development slows down my reading enthusiasm. But overall it's a good action thriller.
