Silfen has a problem. People are going missing and slavers are suspected.
Having survived the coup attempt, Theo and his party are assigned to investigate, only to find things may be even more sinister than they first appear.
This is book 4 in the series. It makes up for books 2 & 3, which were disappointing.
This book was more slice of life with mission vignettes. I actually preferred this story style vs. the fast paced and illogical "save the kingdom" arc.
Another nice aspect of this book were the many examples of British slang/colloquialism peppered about in the dialog. They added a nice bit of humor and made the story more relatable to readers.
The one downside to the current direction of the story is that the protagonist who began in book 1 as a hard ass who would kill anyone he needed to get his revenge, has changed. I liked that guy, a lot! Murder Hobo, for the Win!
On his "second life" he is becoming a nice and heroic Dudley DoRight sort who saves puppies in his spare time.
It is not an improvement in the character for me, but it is not YET a deal killer. The character still has time to nauseate me and elevate my blood glucose levels a bit more before it gets bad enough to quit reading the series.
