When seventeen-year-old Chase Allen touches someone, he is inundated by every sin they’ve committed. To minimize human contact, Chase keeps to himself at home and school. But when his mother’s death abandons him to the cruel despotism of his abusive grandfather, he follows an inexorable calling by an unknown power to seek out his destiny in a world he doesn’t understand. Led to the seemingly bucolic small town of Landon Falls, he encounters an ancient evil that holds the town in its grasp and meets the town’s new preacher, Frank Williams, who is oddly immune to Chase’s sixth sense. Addison Landon recently arrived in Landon Falls with her husband Turner, heir to the Landon Mining Company fortune. Pregnant with their first child, Addison is excited to make such a wealthy, powerful, benevolent family her own. But a price must be paid for the Landons to continue their powerful hold on the town, and Addison’s unborn child is the fee. Forced to choose between love of child and husband, Addison meets Chase, who causes her to doubt the narrative her new family has sold her. Little does she know the chilling secrets buried in this town’s history and deep beneath Landon Falls. If Chase, Frank, and Addison are to confront the true horror of Landon Falls, each must make a choice that could cost their lives.
I can’t say I really enjoyed reading this, simply because of the growing horrors that are portrayed so well. It contains a very salutary depiction of spiritual truths that make you think about just what is going on in the world today.
Good Read. Refreshingly different plot and setting
I like Frank and Chase. Think they could be a good team traveling around doing this kind of thing in different situations as in this would be a good book series and new heroes in a movie series.
I'm sure this is otherwise a good book, but I gave up 27% of the way through it. While I have no problem with one of the main characters being a devout pastor, the anti-abortion screed was more than I could handle (fantasy "after birth" abortions are a major plot point).
