Radio DJ Lula Lazenby isn’t often lost for words, but this time she’s speechless! The man she just shared an exquisite one night with turns out to be her new boss…and his first job is to fire her!
Executive Tristan Bamfield wasn’t planning to stay in London long. Turn up, handle his father’s business and leave. But his inconvenient and instantaneous attraction to Lula has really gone and complicated things!
Tristan is a professional and everyone deserves a second chance – especially when you can’t escape the red-hot memories so he quickly reinstates Lula. Until that leads to weeks of tantalizing torture working with Lula in the studio. Tristan’s not here for a happy ever after, but his challenge now is going to be figuring out how to keep their off-the-charts attraction under wraps until it’s time to leave.
Formerly a Video and Radio Producer, Christy now spends her time writing provocative, passionate, seductive romance. When she’s not writing, she can be found enjoying life with her husband and three children, walking for pleasure and researching other people’s deepest secrets and desires.
This was a cute, easy, fast read. Radio DJ Lula Lazenby may be losing her job after she complained that her boss wouldn’t give her the Breakfast show when she wouldn’t sleep with him. She goes out with her co-workers the night before the meeting with the big boss and hooks up with a hottie. One problem, the big boss sent his son, and his son is the hottie she hooked up with. Tristian was supposed to get in and get out of London, but now he’s staying at the radio station. And working along side Lula proves to be difficult when she wants to keep it professional. He won’t be here forever, but he can’t seem to fight his attraction.
This is an enjoyable light read. The book had potential to be a lot more than that, but it didn’t take it one step further. I gave this book three stars for that, and because I really don’t care for insta love. Within a few weeks they were saying I love you to each other. I know there are some people that do that, and that’s fine. But in this book, everything seemed to be based off attraction. There were a few scenes where they talked about other things, deeper things like childhood, but the characters would have one small conversation about it, and then it was like it never happened.
I really love cinnamon roll MMCs and Tristian wasn’t really that. He started to be a little bit, but he fell short. He didn’t handle things well. I guess that’s reality, right? Not all men are cinnamon roll MMCs. However, this is a book and I want to get lost in a fictional male, not real life! Haha. I don’t know, I think I wanted more out of him. Then when we got more, it was way over the top.
So, this was cute. It was a quick read. The writing style was good. This would make a great palette cleanser book.
"About Last Night" by Christy McKellen left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The story had potential with its London setting and radio DJ protagonist, Lula, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The plot felt disjointed, jumping between chick-lit vibes and heavier topics like difficult childhoods, without really connecting them smoothly.
Tristan, the male lead, didn't win me over, especially with how he handled Lula's situation at work. His rash decisions and poor treatment of her early on made it hard to root for their romance. Though I appreciated his creative apology towards the end, it wasn’t enough to redeem him in my eyes.
Lula, on the other hand, had some great qualities. She’s brave, determined, and knows what she wants. However, the rushed nature of the story didn’t give her character, or their relationship, much room to grow. There was plenty of chemistry, but not much emotional depth to back it up.
In the end, this book is more about the short and spicy rather than a deeper romance. If you’re looking for a quick, light office romance, it might be worth a read. However, for me, it was just okay—entertaining but forgettable. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
If you’re looking for a quick pallet cleanser, this is a great book to read if you’re into super cute and cheesy romances. I enjoyed the writing in this book. A bit funny at times and very easy. Perfect for people with English as a second language. This office place romance sounded so promising but unfortunately it fell very flat for me. Mostly because of the length I believe.
This book could have been great if it were more developed. The characters were both interesting but I just felt that they weren’t developed at all. Especially Tristan with all his childhood trauma. If they would have been described in more detail and if I got to know the characters more through both dialogue and action, I would have rated it higher. It just felt like they met, fell in love, solved the problem and got their HEA in a matter of seconds.
Such a promising read, but it fell a bit flat due to the underdevelopment of both plot and characters. Add another 150 pages and it would have been a great book.

About Last Night by Christy McKellen was a cute, quick and sweet book.
Lula Lazenby, a radio DJ, is fired by her new boss, Tristan Bamfield, who was initially planning to leave London as soon as he handled his father's business. Tristan's attraction to Lula has sparked a heated relationship, leading to weeks of torture in the studio. Tristan must keep their off-the-charts attraction hidden until they leave.
There was angst given how it is a workplace and forbidden romance and I was glad the angst wasn't stretched. They were both keeping it professional until they couldn't. I liked Lula, she was fierce and knew what she wanted and fought for that. Tristan was okay but I expected more from him.
Their chemistry was good but I needed more on emotional front. The writing and plot was interesting, however their backstory could have been better. Inspite of this, the story is a fun read and I enjoyed it. If you like light romance that is spicy, you will keep turning the pages.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would from the summary. I love a good workplace romance and this one starts with a twist. Lula and Tristan had instant chemistry and turned out to be very good for each other. I’m now looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Marry Me…Maybe?.
This was cute and very compact! I loved that we didn't have pages and pages of angst. Instead, we had pages which showed me a realistic "forbidden" love—forbidden because they made it so.
I thought Lulu was a lovely girl, very unsure of herself and what she could do - so typical of a lot of women I know. To me, she was the everyday woman, trying to get what she wanted in life and fairly. Tristian, the good-looking suitor, he'd been stung, didn't trust and was very quick not to believe Lulu and what had happened to her. I love that things didn't run smoothly, both battling very real problems and then it all coming together at the end. Talking of which, the spice! The spice that was there, well let's just say, good thing I had headphones on when listening to the audiobook - jeez! A bit explicit but very tantalising and did I say spicy?
I really enjoyed this one, I listened to it in practically one sitting as the audiobook was a little under 5 hours. A good way to beat the Monday blues for sure! I miss Lulu already!
[2.5] in terms of the storyline and the setting of the radio station, i liked it, and thought it was something a little different for a romance book. that said, however, for the actual romance element - i wasn't a huge fan. i thought tristan, the mmc, was not a very likeable character at all, and just expected to fix all his problems, that actually had serious consequences on others and that he caused, by just throwing money at them?? he does acknowledge this at the very end of the book, but a few throwaway lines of dialogue didn't really make up for his whole attitude. personally, i thought lula, the fmc, could have done way better, and therefore didn't find myself rooting for their relationship. it was a short read, at less than 200 pages, so the pacing was more like that of a novella, which did make for a relatively fast-paced and easy read.
Tristan meet Lu in a London pub while preparing to fire a DJ, Tallulah, at his dad's radio station that the boss there has sexually harassed. Lu has a career deciding meeting in the morning but wants to blow off steam and happens to find Tristan more than willing.
Turns out Lu is Tallulah and that meeting doesn't end very well for either of them the night after...
Wow, this book is a total page-turner! The author did an amazing job capturing Lula's personality in vivid detail. I think so many people will connect with this book because it's just incredibly engaging. It's got the perfect blend of spice and drama. I can't recommend it enough!
Thank you, NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC.
This book was cute! I loved the radio station setting and both characters were fun and sweet. I will say I’m so shocked that in 2024, we still are using finding out someone is introverted as a major breakthrough plot line.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I won this on a goodreads giveaway. It was all right, but nothing amazing for what it is. I can't say this is my particular genre although I do find the whole Mills and Boon history very intriguing. Considering how many decades this has been going on, you can't knock it as a publishing sector. And it's interesting to see how the formula (because these books are written to a very set formula) has changed over the decades. If you go back thirty or forty years, the climax of the romance was hand holding. Things have certainly gotten a lot more explicit since then. This particular book had a very chick lit feel to it. But it switched from chick lit (not my thing) to general randy sex, to clunky conversations about how they'd had diffecult childhoods. It didn't quite gel for me, and ending the book with a long deep and meaningful conversation didn't feel like your typical Mills and Boon.
This is a British written and set book for a change. It's about Tallulah Lazenby, a radio DJ, who's a classy lass: "' I see they do wine by the pint here,' he said, nodding towards her glass." Ok, ok, I know she's not meant to be cheap and nasty, but that bit did make me laugh. She's made a complaint about harassment against her manager, so the big boss is coming down to sort things out. The night before she has a one night stand, and oh no, she realises the next day, it was the big boss. It then goes from her being fired, to being rehired (and showing herself to be a poor winner - ending up with lots of presents before she's rehired) - materialistic, to oh no, I'm shy, to sleeping with him, to no, he won't marry me, to long conversations, to oh let's stay together. I wasn't amazed from it, but I may be asking too much of the book. If you take it for what it is, it may well be an okay read.

Lula Lazenby is a DJ who’s accused her horrible boss of keeping her from a coveted hosting position because she won’t sleep with him.
Tristan Bamfield has recently broken up with his cheating girlfriend and was recruited by his dad to fire the employee of a radio show who’s been accused of showing up late and drunk to work. Little does he know that the woman he had an incredible one night stand with is the same employee he is tasked to fire.
I was intrigued with the synopsis of this book, and excited that the book took place in London and would satisfy the wanderlust I’ve been feeling lately. But the book left a lot to be desired.
Tristan has got a lot of baggage, which is understandable given how his relationship ended and how his girlfriend’s betrayal left him insecure. When he discovers that Lula is the same woman he slept with, he assumes that she sought him out in order to help her chances of keeping her job. He treats her horribly, insinuating that she is making false claims about her boss, Jez, who will only offer her the popular morning show if she sleeps with him. It was hard to get back on his side after that. Also, in the time of Me Too and with sexual harassment protocol in place in many companies, it seems a little hard to believe that he would make the rash decision of firing her without further investigating the allegation.
Once it comes to light that Jez had been embezzling money from the station and is not the upstanding guy he pretended to be, he is immediately fired. Tristan is left to take over as station manager until he can find a replacement and the first order of business is to ask Lula back to take over the morning show. I did like the creative way Tristan chose to apologize to Lula. It was very thoughtful and was a callback to things he remembered about her during their one night stand.
I liked Lula as a character. She wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted, and if she was, she still went for it anyway. She’s brave and kind and doesn’t allow herself to be a pushover.
Because the novel was short there wasn’t much of a journey when it came to the romance. There was a ton of chemistry, but I didn’t feel the love per se. There was definitely a lot of spice and it was an entertaining read for such a short novel.
About Last Night by Christy McKellen was such a blast to read! Thanks to NetGalley, Christy McKellen, and Boldwood Books for the ARC—I'm seriously so thrilled I got to dive into this spicy, fun romance!
✨ Tropes & Themes ✨ ✧ Boss/Employee Romance 💕 ✧ One Night Stand 💖 ✧ Forced Proximity 💗 ✧ Workplace Romance 💋 ✧ Instant Attraction 😍 ✧ Miscommunication 😬 ✧ Second Chances 💕 ✧ Enemies to Lovers (kinda) 💥
Lula and Tristan’s chemistry? Off. The. Charts. 💥 A one-night stand that turns into a workplace disaster? Oh yes, count me in! 😂 Lula's absolute horror when she discovers that her recent hookup is now her new boss, and to top it off, his first order of business is to fire her! I was glued to every page from that wild start. 📚
Lula is such a relatable queen—balancing her career while trying to dodge her undeniable feelings for Tristan. She’s funny, strong, and unapologetically bold, making her a blast to follow throughout the story. Tristan, meanwhile, is dealing with his own baggage—messy breakup vibes—but just can’t resist Lula’s charm. 😍 The office banter? Hilarious and spicy, with that classic will-they-won't-they tension simmering all the way. And don’t even get me started on that groveling moment… SO satisfying. 🙌
The pacing? Chef's kiss. It’s fast without feeling rushed, keeping things light but still giving all the heart. The miscommunication and personal baggage don’t drag on endlessly either—thank goodness for that! The rom-com clichés? Totally fitting the vibe of the story, and honestly, I didn’t mind them one bit. 🥰
In the end, About Last Night is the perfect fun, flirty read for when you need a quick romance pick-me-up! It’s sexy, laugh-out-loud funny, and just the right dose of heartfelt moments. Definitely recommend! 💕
If you thought your job was complicated, wait until you meet Lula Lazenby—a sharp-tongued, quick-witted radio DJ who can talk her way out of almost anything…except maybe the fact that she accidentally slept with her new boss. Yes, you read that right. One unforgettable night mixed with a little too much chemistry leads to one unforgettable night. Now in the light of day, her hot one night stand, Tristan Bamfield, is the man now tasked with firing her. Awkward? Well, maybe just a little.
Tristan isn’t here to find love; he’s here to clean up his father’s business and make a quick exit. But fate—and a sizzling one-night stand—have other plans. The problem is that Tristan is professional, controlled, and determined to keep things strictly business. Contrary to all that, Lula is bold, unapologetically herself, and a walking reminder of that scorching night.
What results is delicious tension, workplace banter sharp enough to slice through radio static, and an undeniable chemistry that practically sets the studio on fire. Will they manage to keep things professional, or will their red-hot attraction turn into a full-blown broadcast-worthy romance?
This is a the perfect rom-com with a dash of corporate chaos, a sprinkle of irresistible charm, and enough steam to fog up your e-reader. If you like office romance tropes, accidental entanglements, and characters who can’t help but fall for the last person they should, then you will definitely want to pick this one up! This book is sure to give you a lot of laughs, a lot of swoon, and just maybe make you blush just a little. An absolutely fun read!

📚MY REVIEW:
About Last Night is a cute lovers-to-friends-to-lovers rom-com -- with a big dose of spice! If you're a fan of rom-coms in workplace settings, you're going to want to read this one ASAP!
Our career-driven female main character, Lula, agrees to go out for cocktails for a friend's birthday against her better judgment, as she has a big meeting at work the next morning that could determine the trajectory of her future as a radio DJ. Lula meets an unexpectedly charming and handsome stranger... And throwing caution to the wind, the two share a VERY spicy night together. The next morning, Lula arrives at work to meet with the executive tasked with determining her career's future -- and is shocked to find herself sitting across the table from last night's fling, Tristan.
This was a fun read, with moments of laughter and lots of spice. This is probably the spiciest rom-com I can remember reading - if you like your books spicy, you're in for a treat. Lula and Tristan were endearing main characters, and I found myself cheering for their forbidden workplace romance throughout the book. This was a fantastic will-they-won't-they read, with a HEA ending that is sure to make you smile.

“For the first time in a long time she felt empowered and sexy and alive. She needed this right now. So badly”
Did I get exactly what I wanted in this spicy and funny and romantic romcom story? Absolutely!!! Boss romance, one night stand, forced proximity, workplace romance and an undeniable pull these characters are feeling. Exactly my cup of tea. I had so much fun getting through Lulu and Tristan’s story and honestly their dynamic was hilarious. The book is short enough to make the narrative interesting without sounding boring. I could read about them and have the best time, without feeling like the pages were too many or the story repetitive. It was a good combination of short time, fun time. Plus, there is something about Lulu that draws you in. I don’t know if it is the fact that she is an introverted woman trying and pretending to be outdoorsy and a partygoers when in truth, she is made for cozy movies and a night in. Or simply the fact that, as many others, she was attracted by guys that would have eventually have a path that felt incompatible to hers. And when Tristan comes in the picture … oh boy, did she have a great time!!! I enjoyed their dynamic and some of the banter that was there and the possibility of another story like this is … really exciting!!!
“In a shocking moment of clarity, she realised that this was always going to happen. She’d been kidding herself this whole time”
Letting loose for the night, Lula meets Tristan at a bar, and before she knows it they’re spending the night together — something neither of them typically do. The next day Lula heads to a very important business meeting and finds the person leading the meeting is Tristan who promptly fires her.
What to expect: ➥ instalust, mistaken identity, workplace romance, (kinda) enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity ➥ Third person limited from both Lula and Tristan’s POV ➥ Explicit open door scenes ➥ Content warnings: brief convos of sexual harrassment
About Last Night is a charming, steamy romance featuring two great leads who have chemistry and great banter. Lula is a very relateable FMC and it was nice to see she was funny, strong, shy, career-driven, and a romantic. And Tristan her rich, handsome boss and totally smitten with her. The writing style was casual and straightforward, yet very fun to read.
The author did a great job with the tension, really amping up that will-they-won’t-they vibe, though it fell a little flat at the end for me (it felt rushed). The characters seemed fleshed out, but there was not much discussion about the characters’ pasts and it made them seem a little surface level.
Overall, I really enjoyed this light, easy romance. It would be a great palate cleanser in between heavier books or the perfect holiday romance to bring to the beach.

My Opinion
Well, this was an entertaining read. At less than 200 pages this was a relatively quick read and it was just so easy to keep turning the pages. Christy McKellen has written a light-hearted book. Lula has recently complained about her boss, so when the owner of the radio station gets involved, she begins to fear for her job. Will Tristan make the right call? The interactions between Lula and Tristan certainly made for an interesting read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC of About Last Night, in exchange for an honest review.
"'About Last Night' by Christy McKellen is a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. The story revolves around Lula Lazenby, a radio DJ facing the possibility of losing her job due to workplace harassment. The unexpected twist comes when Lula hooks up with a stranger, only to discover that he is none other than the boss's son, Tristan. The book explores power dynamics and love-at-first-sight themes as they navigate their professional and romantic relationship.
While the book promises potential with its premise, it falls short of fully realizing it. The insta-love aspect within the story, where Lula and Tristan confess their love within weeks of knowing each other, feels rushed and lacks depth. Though the characters briefly touch upon more profound subjects such as childhood, these conversations are fleeting and fail to leave a lasting impact.
Additionally, Tristan, as the male lead, initially hints at being a cinnamon roll MMC but ultimately does not live up to the archetype. His handling of certain situations leaves much to be desired, straying away from the endearing and gentle qualities typically associated with cinnamon roll characters.
, 'About Last Night' is an entertaining read that could have been elevated with a deeper exploration of its themes and more well-rounded character development. While it falls short of its potential, it still provides a light and enjoyable escape into the world of Lula and Tristian." 3.5 Stars. Worth a read!
I couldn’t put the book down! The banter, the plot, the characters, the writing was all *chefs kiss*
Tristan is trying to get over a messy breakup when a sexy brunette catches his eye and his life turns 180. He initially was only supposed to be in London for a few days, but that changes when he starts liking his new job and starts falling for a diligent brunette.
Lula knows what she wants in life and doesn’t shy away when faced with a challenge, especially a challenge like Tristan. He makes her crazy in every way, but after being let down by all her past relationships, she refuses to start something with him knowing that it’ll only end in heartbreak.
Reading about a man falling in love is my kryptonite. They both fall simultaneously for each other, but Tristan falls harder.
The characters are so perfectly written that I have no notes. The plot was so smooth and although there were some cliches here and there, they didn’t overshadow the story. I hate miscommunication, but they both had bad role models and awful past relationships that prevented them from being more open about their feelings, which is why I let the minor trope slide.
I’m really glad I read it and I can’t wait to read more of her work!
Thank you Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange of a review. I will be honest, if I had to rate the story alone, it would be much lower. The cover and the description sounded like it would be something right up my alley between heavier reads, so I’m a bit disappointed that it didn’t completely deliver.
While the story was somewhat interesting and funny but the main characters I found unbearable. Spoilers ahead from here.
I think Lula was quite obsessed with getting married to someone who she has known for less than a month and giving him an ultimatum of either that or they cannot be together. She was also quick to just say she’s gonna move to the other side of the world, instead of talking things out like adult people are supposed to. And let’s not talk about how the only thing to placate her was that she got what she wanted without sacrificing anything, meanwhile Tristan had to change his whole perspective just to make her happy. And Tristan… he got on my nerves. Lula clearly set up boundaries between them and he kept pushing and pushing, not respecting her wishes at all until he got what he wanted. But even knowing he’s not ready for any kind of commitment that Lula needed, he kept pursuing her just for the gain of having his own fun. And then proposing after a month of knowing each other? He went from commitment phobia to ready for the altar in 0.2 second and it was just… unrealistic. Apart from all this, I liked the side characters, even if he didn’t see much of them.
End of spoilers.
The writing style was what saved this book to me. It was super easy to read, it was to the point and not filled with needless descriptions just to fill the pages (which is how my last read was, so this was super refreshing). The flow was also just right, with just enough intimate times that it didn’t make it too much. It was a short and easy read, I finished it in just a few hours so I added a couple stars for these elements.
So if you want a short, fun and quick romance, make sure to give this book a chance.

In this fun modern romance novel, readers join radio DJ Lula Lazenby when a one-night stand goes horribly wrong -- she just spent a night with her new boss who is firing her based on harsh rumors about her inability to succeed at the radio station. Tristan, her new boss, has no plans to stay in London after finishing his business at the radio station, but he can’t get Lula out of his mind for personal and professional reasons. Reinstating Lula at the station only makes things more difficult, since he’s not looking for the One and they have to keep things under wraps until he leaves. With two fiery and capable characters, readers will love this tropey workplace romance novel and the obstacles in the way of their relationship (both external and internal). Lula and Tristan’s conflicts are fun and intense, yet the underlying tension really adds to their dynamic and the atmosphere of the novel. The characters are the star of this novel, and they really have great personalities and dynamics with each other and the other characters in the novel, so readers will love following their shifting dynamic and their individual character growth over the course of this fun and spicy modern workplace romance novel.

Radio DJ Tallulah Lazenby has essentially a one night stand with this hottie that she meets at a bar that she goes to with one of her coworkers. She has a big meeting the next day with the head honcho of the company she works for, Flash. Well, it turns out that the hottie she hooked up with, Tristan, is the one who she ends up talking to. Tristan’s dad sent him in his place & Tristan tries to turn things around on Tallulah & act like she knew about him all along when she didn’t. He fires her but then realizes he made a terrible mistake and works hard to get her back at Flash.
“it's going to drive me crazy to never be able to have what I want.” “I can't be your rebound woman, Tristan. I care about you too much for that.”
The connection between Tallulah and Tristan is pretty much instant at the bar & it carries through the entire book. It could have been a lot more than what it was & that was a huge letdown for me. They were cute characters but I didn’t really see any character development or a plot either. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, & author for a copy of this digital arc in exchange for my review.
Tallulah, a DJ, works at a radio station and fears it will be her last day, upon a mistake that would most likely cost her the job: a big no no: sleeping with a colleague. Jeremy, the station manager, a player and a absolutely not boyfriend material promised the show she is after, the Breakfast Show that is becoming vacant. He changed his mind and she also lost the Drivetime Show, so now she is floating around the station covering for whoever needs time off. Tristan, a newly single from Edinburg, is coming to London to sort out a problem, as the son of the station owner. Turns out Jeremy, offered Tallulah a job in exchange por sex. Being a friend of his family, the issue must be resolved. The night before the meeting, she goes out with her coworkers to celebrate a birthday and starts flirting with a cute guy: Tristan. Instant attraction drives them together but their situation Is less than ideal, they need to hide from everyone else. Is the second bookI read by the author and I enjoyed it as the first one. I love that the narrative comes straight to the point without many comings and goings. it’s a fast read under 200 pages.
This book had a lot of components that made me interested. A big city? Check. Two characters with their own life and high-speed jobs? Check. A romantic story of this age? Check. Some spicy scenes to keep you interested? Check! But somehow it didn't grip me as much as I thought it would have after reading the description.
What I liked was that the story was to the point, with the focus on the main characters. That means that there was space for the charactersd to not be super flat, and show multiple sides of themselves. We learn about their back stories and the things that shaped them, and how they still impact their actions today. But even still, the storyline was incredibly flimsy, the characters acted rash and there was not a lot that made me interested in them.
Maybe the components I was looking for in this story have already been done so often that it is harder to have a story be compelling, either way this one did not convince me.
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me an ARC of this book!
