Wat een mooi en overzichtelijk boek.

Het is echt de moeite waard om je eigen voedsel te gaan verbouwen. Hier bespaar je niet alleen geld mee, maar het is ook echt superleuk om elk jaar de zaadjes weer op te zien komen en om weer wat later de plant bloemen of vruchten te zien produceren. Het is echt een heel leuk proces om te volgen.

Zo heeft Simon Akeroyd in het boek Plant je producten 40 hacks om eetbare producten te kweken uit je wekelijkse boodschappen. Hiermee kweek je fruit, groenten, kruiden en zelfs gedroogde zaden en peulvruchten.

Simon benoemt elke keer het product en legt daarna stapsgewijs uit hoe je te werk moet gaan, dit doet hij d.m.v. duidelijke plaatjes.

Op deze manier kun je zelfvoorzienend worden en als leuke bijkomstigheid bespaart het je ook nog eens geld.
Zo gebruik je ook vaak het gedeelte dat je normaal weg zou gooien, een win-win situatie dus, want zo krijgen je boodschappen gelijk een tweede leven.

Voor het kweken hoef je echt geen dure potten aan te schaffen. Oude plastic bloempotten volstaan prima. Het hoeft er niet mooi uit te zien, het doel is meer om duurzaam voedsel te verbouwen en er plezier aan te beleven.

Maar ben wel gewaarschuwd, want wanneer je eenmaal met het kweken van planten begint, dan zal het verslavend worden.

Wat ook een leuke bijkomstigheid is, is dat het goed is voor je gezondheid. Wat wil je nog meer.

Ik kijk zelf ook altijd weer uit naar het zaaiseizoen.
Het is zo mooi om te zien dat je van een paar kleine zaadjes, gigantische planten kunt kweken.

Wanneer je de zaadjes op tijd wat warmte, een vensterbank met wat zon vinden ze heerlijk, licht water en liefde geeft, dan doet de plant de rest.

Mocht je ook enthousiast geworden zijn, ga het dan eens proberen. Ik weet zeker dat wanneer je de basisprincipes eenmaal onder de knie hebt, je niet anders meer zult willen.

Fun book! I learned a lot! I've already started to experiment. It's easy and super simple to follow.
If there was discussion about cross pollination and sterility of grocery store produce, maybe I missed it. Had to look that up cuz I remember being told that grocery store produce like avocado pits and apple seeds would not grow mature fruiting plants. It seems like it works if the food is organic and the conditions are suitable.

This is a fun book but I thought several hacks were a bit misleading. If you are looking to eventually harvest apples, plums, mangoes, and avocados from the seeds you've germinated, it's very, very long wait with no guarantee that your seeding is the same as the parent plant. Also, I wonder how many lentil and chickpea plants I need to have in order to harvest enough to make a side dish or a bowl of hummus? This is a fun book, but do curb your expectations.
