Case studies are almost always engrossing to me. This is a great book concerning the conceptualization, treatment, and etiology of a variety of disorders. Bonus: There are (up to) 15 year follow-ups for some of the subjects.

This edition would be a superb addition to an abnormal psych course.

Some parts of the book are outdated because it was written a while ago, but it was still quite interesting and informational.

While being a little dated and obviously not the most exciting read, this was quite interesting and dealt with psychological topics that I'd never though to consider before. I'm glad that I decided to put in the effort and actually get around to reading this book.

*Read the 10th edition, released in 2015. Mostly a cool resource because diving into a case and exploring a whole life is genuinely helpful. It does however show its age several times. First there's the references, often reviews from thirty years previous will make the cut which makes no sense. The theoretical underpinnings also seem to come either strictly from behaviourists, evolutionary psychologists or just random whacky psychological/ anthropological ideas- it's not focused and it suffers from this. There's also a deliberate effort to not consider the social and cultural elements of mental disorder seriously, I imagine this would kinda point out how homogeneous the cases were in this regard. There's also the chapter on gender dysphoria which is a pretty interesting chapter on this kinda liberal tip-toeing writing that psychological writers are so adept at, but it's educational value is severely limited because of its unwillingness to recognise identity. That being said, this is a really well structured set of case studies and there's lots to learn hell yeah.

I don’t rate school books. But this one was fun! Case studies are interesting. Except for that one that ended with “and he unfortunately died.” That wasn’t fun.

Got it from a second-hand bookstore for $2. The case studies were outdated, but intriguing nonetheless.

I really enjoyed reading these case studies and am so grateful Ken let me audit his psychopathology class!! I learned so much this term about schizophrenia, panic disorder, eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more.

Sometimes, the language and approaches used in this text were old-fashioned, but I guess the case studies come from many decades ago and it was still interesting to read.

Assigned reading for abnormal psychology. It was very useful. Each case was simple and yet interesting. The treatments were clearly outlined and the reasoning for each treatment explained. Organized into themes very nicely. It was easy to draw discussions from.

I recommend this book for readers who find people interesting, want to learn how people think, why they act the way they do, why they say the things they say and all in all about how the human brain works and responds to certain situations. People will also find this book interesting because they get to read an actual case study that shows different types of illnesses and what happened and treatment methods. Another reason this book may catch readers attention is because they can learn in depth about how different conditions effect people and their everyday lives.
