In this intriguing prequel to An Ember in the Dark, you hear Demonica’s tale and witness her dark descent into madness. Long ago, before the fae ruled Queridian, mermaids governed the land. That is, until a demon came along with a powerful ancestry and a claim to the throne. Demonica and Ember have very similar stories, but Demonica’s has never been told properly. Until now…

Perfect origin story for the demons and their leader, Demonica, in the Realms of Queridian series. This novella puts a lot of the pieces of the puzzle in place for us. As always, I felt so terrible for Demonica and was sympathizing with her. I did read the author's note at the end, and I did find myself comparing Demonica and Ember as I was reading. I think it's very interesting to see all the parallels to their stories and how vastly our choices can change our stories. All in all, well rounded and quick read that gives much more insight to Queridian. I enjoyed getting Demonica's pov and I can't wait to see how the series ends!
I was ready to hate Demonica for everything and causing the species to not be allowed together. But oh man her POV changed my mind. This prequel put together so many pieces from the other 2 books. I loved seeing how similar Embers story is to hers but also how different they are because of choices they each made. I can’t wait for book 3 to release on October 1st. I need to see how it all comes together and what choices Ember will have to make
A villain origin story/novella that is sad, beautiful, and tragic. The story and history of Demonica pulls you in to her world and mind. You will start to understand why she become the “villain” and for me, I sympathize with her. I understand even more why Queridian became the way it did. If you like a well written and detailed origin story this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
This answered a lot of questions from the previous books and now to not so patiently wait!!! It’s like HOD right now she is the rightful heir… did need this beauty to add to my collection.. Ty again to the talented author
