"Countdown to Deception" has all the elements that you want in a thriller: war secrets, missiles, lies, intense action, and someone looking to change the world order. Written by William A. Griffith, this novel takes you into a spiral of events where the United States' status as a global power is threatened after North Korea achieved impacts on U.S. defences. I have to say that one of the aspects of the book that I most enjoyed was its narrative style. Because it not only tells you the story from the main character’s perspective but also shows you what’s happening in North Korea, giving you the general context of the story. The plot is intriguing and original. I enjoyed reading this book.
I believe that the author has chosen a plot that is too accurate for the current state of our geopolitics, because things that in one way or another seem to be taken from a movie, are really associations that the reader can make with reality. The story is intrepid, endowed with a mystery and a sense of uncertainty about the characters, which makes it difficult not to devour the pages in search of those responsible for this global catastrophe. Personally, I loved the plot, because I like stories that have that thin line between fiction and reality, plus the fact that they have intense characters that turn the stories in a fantastic way.
I found it to be a great book; the way it kept me hooked is out of this world. I especially liked the creation of the characters and the evolution they show as the chapters go by. Another aspect worth mentioning is the way in which alternate stories are written that have a main character and even a story. And at the end of the book, they come together to build a very good story arc. Although it is a fictional story, there are events in the book that leave you wondering if they really happened or not. Since its main message is that the US defences are being threatened by North Korea. I really recommend this book.
"Countdown to Deception" is a story of intrigue and deception that centers around a North Korean missile launch which has the potential to radically change the geopolitical status quo. The story could easily have been taken from today's headlines. This is a great inaugural outing for the author, William Griffith. The book is well written and fast paced, weaving in several distinct plot lines involving the major characters and bringing them together at the end. There is deceit, murder, and espionage as well as straight-forward detective work. He keeps you guessing what's going to happen next. It was difficult to put down once I started reading it.
"Countdown to Deception" by William A. Griffith is a fast-paced geopolitical thriller that weaves together world catastrophe and human drama. The story, set against a backdrop of North Korean missile technology and global power plays, covers three main threads: a young attorney unearthing high-level corruption, a jaded NYPD detective driven back into action, and a North Korean colonel dealing with a moral choice. Griffith's commitment to detail in both character development and military details adds credibility to the high-stakes story.
The story masterfully creates tension, with each chapter increasing the pressure as characters race against time to avoid disaster. While occasionally pushing believability, the novel's examination of issues such as family, patriotism, and the ethical complexities of international politics enriches the thriller format. "Countdown to Deception" is an entertaining journey for fans of political thrillers and military fiction, stimulating contemplation on power, loyalty, and moral choices in a global context. Highly recommended.
Griffith’s piece of literature has it all, it is one of those books which can be taken as examples of what a proper thriller should look like. He takes us on a rollercoaster of events and suspense that never stops. He crafted on-point characters, all with different personalities, which fit perfectly well with the themes of war and action. The main character is my favorite, no doubt about that! The plot is entirely intriguing and suspenseful, what makes the storyline flow smoothly, though never slowly. Each chapter is more captivating than the last one. I love this book from start to finish! I can’t wait to keep on reading more works from this author who is new to me.
This is an exciting, complex, suspense/thriller that's got the right mix of everything: government conspiracy, violence, sex, humor, and not to mention strong plot line & narrative. Highly recommend!
