Gift: A paranormal Christmas Romance.

Rate this book
Fired a week before Christmas, Olivia Boncoeur stumbles into Other Worldly Teas to process her sudden lack of employment. One simple cup of tea with an obscure reading and an unexpected party invitation, turns her world upside down, where her future and the fate of the Balance would land in the palms of her hands.

Even after a thousand years of stagnation, Nick Klaus prefers working in the northern groves than wasting his time in council meetings—especially so close to the big day. Despite what he’d rather be doing, he promised to honor his friends’ efforts to get him into the most elite party of the paranormal community, to blow off a little steam before the work got serious.

On this fantastical evening, a bright-eyed woman with the most incredible smile bumps into him, stealing his breath away.

For just this one night, they allow their hearts to open.

Neither Nick nor Olivia could have imagined that the Fates would swirl up their lives and task them with saving the world’s most precious gift and realigning their destiny.

I was intrigued by the premise of the story. It’s a paranormal flip on Santa (MMC, Nick Klaus) and a family unlike any other. Their names will seem familiar, but to enjoy this story, you kinda need to forget everything you think you know.

Our FMC, Olivia, is fired from her job a week before Christmas. She was doing her job, excelling in fact, now she had to figure out something new. A Christmas gift from a colleague brought her more of that “something new” than she had ever could have imagined.

I am usually not one to love the “instant chemistry/love at first sight trope”, but I think the fact that they were both trying to fight it helped. What followed after was not what I was expecting when “Santa” was involved. I can tell you that Olivia’s joy and goodness is infectious and helps to connect her with Nick’s family and their home, well mostly. The author definitely made these characters/archetypes all her own. As well as, well, sorry, that would be a spoiler.

This story has myths and heartaches. Valkyries and hope. If you enjoy cultural archetypes turned on their head, mysteries and love, not just the romantic kind, oh and some steamy scenes, this may just be a book you would enjoy. It’s also just a fun, quick read.

I would like to thank the author, Jodi Kendrick, Soulgate Publishing and BookSirens for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily given. As always, I wish you happy reading!

This book (by a new to me author) is cute. I wish I could think of another word for it, but that's the one I'm going with.

It is a different look at Santa Claus, his helpers, and his universe, and I couldn't get enough. If you are expecting the same thing you have read over and over again, you aren't going to find that here.

The FMC is everything that 'Saint' Nick is not, and the MMC fights fate at every turn.

It is cute, it's adorable, it's hot, and it definitely puts you in the Christmas spirit.

And I absolutely love that it is based in Ottawa, ON, Canada. It's nice not to have it in a stereotypical location like New York City

Now, excuse me as I go hunt down every other book by this author.

Particulars:

MF

Grumpy/Sunshine trope

Paranormal (shifters, djinns, and fates oh my!)

Good plot

Olivia and Nick’s story is an endearing read, just in time for Christmas. It has all the “feels”; love, hate, wonder, anger and the need for revenge. It even has a bit of espionage. Well written, with characters you grow to love or despise, with redemption at the end . It sets it up for Gena’s coming story, but no cliffhanger, thank goodness. 5✨’s.

Rating System:

1⭐️- couldn’t finish, will never read a book by the author

2✨- Finished the book, but the editing totally detracted from enjoying the book.

3✨- Finished the book, there were some character problems, plot holes/errors in continuity , editing errors

4✨- liked the book, small editing detail problems that did not affect storyline

5✨ Wow ! Loved it ! Clean editing .

This was a great book. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense . I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down like really. When they meet the sparks had ignited in their souls and heart. The chemistry between them was sexual tension and the physical attraction was magical and romance. One night with him will change her life forever. Olivia was carrying precious baby and will Nick find out the truth time. Was this the gift he has all ways wanted in his life or will he give her the world and more. It had so much emotions and drama. I highly recommend this book and you wont be disappointed.

Gift is the first book I have read by Jodi Kendrick. It is book 2 in the Enchanted Andor series but it was fine to read independently. It is a spicy paranormal romance with open-door steamy scenes. This story is about Olivia Boncoeur who is looking for a job when she gets invited to a party where she meets the handsome Nick Klaus. This story gives a whole new take on Santa and his helpers. I have a crush on this version of Santa; he has an awesome mode of transportation too. I will be checking out this series and author in the future. I do feel some things could have been clearer in some areas. I will be watching out for the rest of this series. This story was unique. I loved it. Olivia was a force all her own and Nick was from a different time and place and together they were something so special. Her tenderness and love for anyone who needed her was all encompassing and open ended. Nick was fighting his own guilt for something not entirely his fault but together they had the power to be a true force for all that is good. This was an inspiring tale.

Wow! This puts a whole new spin on what came about concerning Christmas. I am but this reading and Creator did not take the usual spin of Santa Claus. It was very well written and gave you a whole new Fantastical review of Nick. Other factors and twists and turns that you would never expect. There are more parts that adults will appreciate the realistic situations. The sisters of fate and all of the other members of Destiny Society are present.

Her Special Gift . . .

I wish this story had no type of reference to Christmas. It kind of ruined it for me. Olivia Boncoeur loses her job right before Christmas and stops at a tea house where her tea leaves are read. She ends up invited to a party where she meets an attractive guy name Nick Klaus and both of them have feelings for the other. He also feels very protective of her and it seems as if the two of them could be fated mates. Will they realize this and accept each other? After all, the decisions of the Fates are very difficult to ignore!

This was my first book by Jodi Kendrick but will not be my last. I truly enjoyed reading Olivia and Nick's story. Their chemistry from the beginning radiates off the page and made me invested in their relationship. What made this story even more interesting is the mysterious elements happening in the plot as well as the budding romance. There's magic, matchmaking, friendship, family, drama, danger, love, and it all leaves you guessing what's going to happen next until the end. I can't wait to see how this series continues to unfold.

A truly unexpected version of St. Nicholas' Christmas myth, and a good one at that. The characters are well thought out, and the story finds an explanation for all nuances in an original take to the story.

It's a well told story of love not only between characters, but of all humans, a (temporary) victory if good over evil and an interesting premise for the next story.

Gift is an interesting take on the idea of Santa Klaus. I really liked Olivia, the FMC. The world building was good and I loved the use of the names of the reindeer and how it somehow fit the characters.

There were, however, some typos that should be fixed. I also hate when someone with ill intent watches the main characters having sex. For me, that's just off-putting.

I really loved this story. Olivia and Nick were perfect for each other. Both not wanting love but attracted to each other like moths to the flame. I loved the mix of paranormal, mystery/thriller, and romance. I enjoyed the other characters as well. There were s many different types of paranormals mentioned in this story. I could not put this book done.

A tale as old as time, with good verses evil with a Christmas spin to it. Nick and Olivia were the perfect selfless couple for this storyline. . It took unforseen tangents and twists.. In the end , a good pre Christmas story with a lot of feels. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.

This is a very magical tale, and it's more than just the characters. I loved the concept of this grand ball that brings together mythical figures we've heard stories about our whole lives. It was sweet, unexpected, and so romantic. I loved it.

Olivia is someone who can bring kindness and guidance to those who might need it.

Nick Klaus is a damaged warrior stuck in a transitional state of a mysterious kind.

When legends, myths, greed and destinies collide, sometimes oblivion results - and sometimes new possibilities.

Intense losses, gains, sorrows and possibilities.

Excellent seasonal paranormal romance

This is a thoroughly enjoyable tale with two well-portrayed main characters (Nick, Liv), and an intriguing concept behind it all.

A very pleasant gift indeed!

I think Gift is the most unique Christmas story I have ever read.
St. Nick isn’t the Santa we’re used to seeing. He’s “young” looking and buff, and he doesn’t live at the North Pole. Everything we’ve heard about Santa, our entire lives, has an unexpected twist. Elves, Santa’s mode of travel, the reindeer, even the presents he delivers on Christmas Eve, are all atypical of what we “know”.
A very well written, enthralling and original take on a timeless tale.
