All My Fault

Rate this book
There’s a knock at the door. It’s every mother’s worst the police are here. They tell me my beautiful daughter Charlotte has been hurt. They’ll take me to the hospital, there’s no time to lose… and I know this must be all my fault.

Charlotte and I argued so badly the last time we spoke. I was just worried about her, but she refused to hear me out. And now she’s lying pale, still and silent in a hospital bed. I’m convinced this was no the police should be questioning her boyfriend, Freddie.

I never thought he was good enough for her, but did he hurt my daughter? Guilt floods through me again and again. If we hadn’t argued, she wouldn’t have been with him today. If we hadn’t argued, I could have been there for her. But I didn’t listen and instead, she pushed me away. I didn’t even know my darling girl was pregnant.

And now she’s lost forever. The doctors say she will never wake the only part of her they can save is her unborn child…

There’s only one thing I can do. He may be my grandchild’s father, but I know Freddie is dangerous. I’ll fight with everything I have to prove he’s guilty.

I failed to protect Charlotte, but how far will I have to go to keep her baby safe? And will what’s left of my family ever or will my part in my daughter’s death tear us all apart?

Emma Robinson writes such beautiful stories that break my heart then delicately put it back together again. This book was no different. Charlotte has an accident and winds up in the hospital. While her mom is attached to her bedside, she is also stuck with piecing together what happened to her daughter, Charlotte, as well as handle everything for Charlotte while she is in the hospital.

I was so attached to these characters and invested in what was happening to them. My heart broke multiple times, and as a mom, I truly resonated with Joanna's character. This author's writing style makes her characters relatable. Robinson weaves stories that have incredible depth and are truly emotional. I always have my tissues ready when reading books by this author, and this one was no exception. This book exceeded all expectations I had going into it!! What a beautiful story!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is my 5th book by Emma Robinson and my favorite so far! I loved it from the second I picked it up till the very last page. A woman’s worst nightmare comes true when she finds out her daughter has been hurt. Other things emerge that will pull on your heartstrings. I loved it! There’s a great twist about mid-way through that made me say “what?” Thanks to NetGalley for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

Joanna and her daughter Charlotte had not spoken to each other in over two week. The closeness theyt used to have was gone and it seemed all they did was argue over Charlotte’s boyfriend, Freddie. Joanna didn't feel Freddie was good enough for Charlotte and she didn't trust him. Since her husband had died, it seemed there was no one to act as a buffer between the two of them. Joanna is working in the garden and around the house when she gets a visit from two police officers. Charlotte has been injured in what seems to be an altercation in her apartment and has been taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. It's uncertain if she will survive and Joanna is sure that Freddie is responsible. When she finds out that Charlotte is almost 7 months pregnant, she realizes things were more strained than she thought. Is Charlotte going to recover? Who pushed her? Will the baby survive?

Oh my heart, I don't think I have cried this much while reading a book. There were so many times that I was heartbroken for Joanna as she dealt with things. Luckily Joanna had her friend, Sally to be with her while she was at the hospital, but it was so sad. No parent wants that call about their child. We see what is happening at the hospital from Joanna's POV, but we also hear Freddie's POV as we learn about his relationship with Charlotte, how they met and how their relationship progressed. I totally disagreed with Joanna about Freddie and felt that she was blinded by something in her past. He seemed so sweet, caring and really loved her. I was sure I knew what had happened, but there were twists and turns that kept me second guessing myself. This book really looked at relationships in families, friends and couples. Although this was heartbreaking at times, there were high moments as well. There is suspense, what really happened to Charlotte, as well as a lot of drama. I enjoyed this book and although at times it wrecked me, I'm glad I read it.

Joanne, recently widowed, argued with her daughter Charlotte, on their last visit. Joanne has been worried about Charlotte's boyfriend Freddie. She can’t forgive him for the way he broke her heart when they were 1st together and wasn’t happy when they got back together. She just won’t give him a chance. Charlotte is desperate for her to get to know him like she does.

One Sunday afternoon 2 weeks later there is a knock at the door, when Joanne opens it she receives the news she’s been dreading. Charlotte is in hospital and Freddie has been arrested on suspicion of hurting her.

Rushed to the hospital, she finds Charlotte unconscious, surrounded by ventilators. As she discovers exactly what happened to her daughter, she is convinced Freddie is to blame and she was right to be suspicious of him.
She then discovers Charlotte is 28weeks pregnant! Devastated Charlotte hadn’t told her, she is trying to come to terms with all that has happened when Charlotte is rushed to theatre after another bleed on the brain. Will her and the baby survive?
Freddie continues to deny any involvement in what happened and the police continue to investigate.

The only niggle I had was the timeline, things seemed to happen very quickly in some ways, visits to see Freddie arranged in less than 24hours, Freddie being held in prison as long as he was with such flimsy evidence and his ‘hotshot ‘lawyer on the case, seemed wrong. Despite that I couldn’t put this down towards the end.

Aha, here she is again. One of my queens of tissues. Each time she makes me regret I have not bought any shares from Kleenex yet.

So yes, she does it again. She wrote another beautiful, heart breaking and heartwarming story that pulled every string of my heart.

You feel the love between a mother and her child and even though they do not always see eye to eye, which is normal, the love never fades away.

Parents always want the best for their offspring even though what they think is best does not always align with the things the children want, but they never stop loving each other.

Parenting is making sure your child gets the best things possible in life, but parenting is also letting go and allowing your children to make their own choices. And that is often the hardest part.

Turning back the clock is not possible and it's often when it's too late, you see the light...

People often have preconceptions about something or someone. Maybe it's time to let this go and take the time to open our heart and our mind.

There is only one thing I can say about this story: amazingly beautiful. 5 stars

Thank you

Well would it be a book written by Emma Robinson if it didn't leave you in tears somewhere through the book?

I loved reading Joanna, my heart broke for her and ached for a fellow parent that went through the most horrific ordeal. And the only thing she can think to do is blame one person.

Reading how all of this story plays out is an absolute pleasure. I just adored the writing and found the characters compelling and loveable. Aside from the obvious ones your meant to hate.

I thought I had it all figured out but Emma surprised me more than ever with a few twists and turns to change that perspective quite a few times.

Emma's very clever writing has you there in that moment with the characters, feeling all the feels right alongside them.

Loved every second of this book and will always continue to shout from the rooftops about Emma's writing.

The sales for tissues must be higher while reading one of Emma Robinson’s books and while I’d never really admit it, there was a tear or two. As usual the author handles what is every parent’s nightmare with sensitivity and it’s beautifully written and while it was obvious after a few chapters that the character accused of the heartbreaking incident wasn’t guilty, it did surprise me when it was revealed.

First, I want to thank Emma Robinson, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing this book so I may bring you this review.

Ohhh how I have been craving an Emma Robinson book!! Her books always give me the feels, touch my heart in so many ways, and make me tear up! In All My Fault she goes a little dark and adds a little mystery which is refreshing from some of her past stories. If you are a die hard fan of Emma’s like I am you will need to go pick this one up.

All My Fault focuses on a truly heartbreaking unthinkable tragedy where Charlotte was injured in an accident. My heart broke in two for her poor mother who had to piece everything together of what really happened to her daughter. Oh there were so many wickedly shocking twists and turns that I was even stunned by some of them.

This book is a work of art, though heartbreaking. As a girl mom, it hit so hard. Feeling Joanna’s pain took me on an emotional journey. It’s truly every mom’s worst nightmare. #EmmaRobinson writes gripping novels that are so realistic. While pulling your heartstrings, they’re some of the best #womensfiction I’ve read.

Well this book sent me on a rollercoaster of emotion. The author has a skill of eliciting a feeling towards a character then turning it totally on its head. Such a brilliant book full of heartbreak and hope.

The book follows a similar journey to my feelings and shows how we all make opinions and judgements. How judgements can stop good things happening if we can only widen our lens to see outside of our own perspective

Highly recommend

Joanna hasn't spoken to her daughter for two weeks, not since they argued again over Charlotte's relationship with her boyfriend Freddie, Joanna is convinced he's not good enough for her daughter and has tried everything to make her see sense, and it's only because she cares, but now it could be too late as police arrive to tell her that Charlotte has had an accident and is in hospital in a coma, Joanna is convinced that Freddie is responsible and that it's all her fault, she should have been there for her and will do everything in her power, as a mother, to prove he's guilty and protect her unborn grandchild.

I said that Emma's previous book had squeezed my heart to within an inch of its life, well this one squeezed it, ripped it out, trampled on it and then tried to put it back together, I'm not just emotionally bruised after this one, but totally broken. All My Fault tells the story of a mother and her grown up child and the lengths she will go to, to protect her, not always getting it right and coming across as too pushy. I really felt for Joanna, she was floundering after losing her husband and now it looks like she was about to lose her only child, I'm not sure if I'd have done anything different in that situation and I hope I never have to live through something like this, it's every parents worst nightmare. Once again Robinson has totally excelled herself with this exquisitely written, beautiful story that is begging for a happy ending and one that brought me to tears countless times in the few hours it took me to read it. I highly recommend this one, but you'll need tissues, and lots of them!!

I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.

I knew straightway from reading the synopsis that this book was going to be an emotional read, but wow, I was still not quite prepared for the emotional trip this book would take me on.

Joanna and her daughter Charlotte had had a fight the week before about Charlotte’s boyfriend and things had clearly been strained between the two since. Joanna is just pottering about the house when she receives a knock at the door from two police officers there to deliver the kind of news that any parent dreads and fears more than anything else. Charlotte had been seriously injured and taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The first few chapters were so well written I felt like I was at the hospital with Joanna, feeling her pain, fear, worry and panic, as if I was experiencing it. I was gripped, and this was only the beginning of the book.

As well as chapters told from Joanna’s point of view, there are also chapters told from Freddie, the boyfriends, point of view. What I found really interesting about telling the story from two different perspectives like this, was the way Joanna speaks about Freddie in such a derogatory way, you can’t help but dislike him. Then when you read the chapters told from Freddie’s point of view in the past, and how he came to meet Charlotte, the way he speaks about her is actually very sweet. It really got me second guessing my opinion on Joanna and whether she was in fact a reliable narrator after all.
This book has a strong theme running through it of the complexities of a mother daughter relationship. This kind of storyline definitely hits in a different way for me now then it would have done had I read it before becoming a mother myself. It also got me reflecting back on my own relationship with my mother, and how that’s changed over the years.

Although there are lots of heartbreaking moments in this book, there are also lots of heart-warming moments. You can tell from the writing that the author put a lot of thought and emotion into this story and getting it down on the page, and I can imagine it would have been a tricky job of dealing with such emotional issues whilst trying to strike the right tone, something which the author does superbly in this book.

This book really delves into the intricacies of relationships between family and friends, and whilst that is the main theme of this book, there is also an undercurrent of suspense as to what actually happened to Charlotte. I think this book has a bit of something for everyone regardless of what the readers ‘go to’ genre is.

My Rating: 4.6 Rounded up

Joanna Woodley is turning fifty but doesn’t feel like celebrating. She lost her husband Steve a little over a year ago plus isn’t on the best of terms with their only child Charlotte who is twenty-two.
Charlotte has moved in with Freddie Knight-Crossley, a guy she has been seeing for three years. But Joanna believes this relationship is a mistake. Charlotte is a beautiful sweet good girl but often drawn to someone opposite -- similar to a moth to a flame.
However, Joanne is still expecting her daughter to stop by on her birthday. She is surprised to find two police officers at her door. They tell her Charlotte is at the hospital with life threatening injuries. She has been in an altercation and hit her head.
Charlotte's boyfriend Freddie is helping Police; however, Joanna is sure Freddie had something to do with what happened.
When Joanna arrives at the hospital she it told Charlotte is in a coma. Joanna wants to stay by her side even through the doctor as no idea when the swelling will go down and she will come out of the coma. Joanna sits by Charlotte’s bedside and asks in a whisper. . .”Is this all my fault?”

Wow! ~ This exceeded my expected.
I have read other Emma Robinson stories and enjoyed them so I was sure this would be good. I just didn’t expect it to be SOOOO Good!!
I went into this thinking it was going to be a nice practicable story. WRONG!

Emma Robinson’s early novels are humorous; however her recent work focuses on
power of family and friendship in the most challenging circumstances.
One reader describes her writing as "one who can always be relied upon to pack an emotional punch".
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.

All My Fault by Emma Robinson is a heart-wrenching contemporary novel that I read in just two sittings.
This is an emotional read that will completely tug at your heartstrings. It is a book about a truly terrible situation and every parent’s nightmare. It is a book about the hardest goodbye.
Emma Robinson writes with sensitivity and feeling. The reader becomes caught up in the action as we ‘walk’ through the book, totally immersed in the situation and able to empathise with the lead character.
A terrible accident sees a young woman fighting for her life and for that of her unborn baby. As events unfold, we see that all is not as it seems and a guilty party walks among us. A mother has a bedside vigil as she refuses to acknowledge the worst. A partner is arrested. His character belies what a mother believes. Emotions run high. Accusations fly. Somewhere under it all lies the truth. Will the truth ever come to light? Or will it stay buried forever?
There are many emotions associated with loss. Feelings of guilt threaten to overwhelm a character who is told, “you need to be kind to yourself.”
We witness a life that has been manipulated, a life that is willing to take the fall. There is a gentle soul who needs to take control as the innocent suffer at the hands of the strong.
A lifelong friendship goes the extra mile, offering support when needed.
And the entitled pop up. A bully from childhood emerges, seemingly a changed character but a leopard never changes its’ spots. It lies dormant until it pounces once more.
All My Fault is a read that cries out for tissues. There is loss, manipulation, guilt, fear – and above all, there is love. Love shines through the darkness. When the last page has been turned, love remains.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

This is a novel that explores the depths of grief, guilt, and the fragile threads that hold families together. I could not put it down!

The loss of Joanna’s husband, Steve, casts a long shadow over the family. His death left Joanna emotionally raw and contributed to her controlling tendencies. It’s clear that Steve’s absence created a vacuum that intensified Joanna’s need to protect (control) her daughter, Charlotte.

Joanna’s world shatters when Charlotte is found unconscious and later declared brain-dead after a brutal attack. The tragedy is compounded by Joanna’s unresolved guilt over their last argument and her belief that Charlotte’s boyfriend, Freddie, is to blame. Joanna’s early feelings toward Freddie are laced with suspicion and disdain.  She never trusted him and feared he was manipulating Charlotte. Her instincts scream that he’s dangerous, and she’s determined to protect Charlotte’s unborn child at all costs.

As the story unfolds, the circumstances surrounding Charlotte’s attack grow murkier. Joanna is convinced it was murder, not an accident.

What makes this novel truly unforgettable is the evolution of Joanna and Freddie’s relationship. As secrets unravel and truths emerge, Joanna is forced to confront her own biases and the possibility that she may have misjudged Freddie. Their dynamic shifts from hostility to reluctant understanding, and eventually, a fragile alliance built on shared grief and the hope of raising Charlotte’s baby.

Joanna and her daughter Charlotte haven't spoken to each other for a long time. Joanna doesn't approve of Charlotte's boyfriend Freddie who she believes is not a very good person. When Joanna receives a visit from two police officers, who tells her that Charlotte has fell down the stairs after an altercation and is at the hospital with life altering injuries, Joanna immediately rushes to the hospital. Joanna firmly believes that Freddie is responsible for whatever happened to Charlotte. Joanna finds out that Charlotte was pregnant. What is going to happen next?

The story is told Joanna's and Freddie's POV. Despite the fact that Joanna thinks Freddie is up to no good, reading through Freddie's POV told me otherwise--that he was loving and caring towards Charlotte. The story overall was emotional and heartbreaking to read and the writing really captures those emotions very well. There are some twists and turns along the way which actually made me second guess about what is going to happen in the end. The book mainly talks about relationships, friendships and family in general and of course some suspense. This book will make you cry a lot.

Overall this book worth a five star rating.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only. Thank you Bookouture for making me a part of this blog tour.

Oh boy, when I say this book is utterly heartbreaking, I mean it. Even after reading the synopsis, I think a small part of me still had some hope that Charlotte would wake up. I was hoping for a miracle. And when she didn’t, I cried. In fact, there were quite a few times that I cried while reading this book.

Joanna, Charlotte’s mom, was such a strong character. She lost her husband. And then she lost her daughter. She has to keep going because she has her granddaughter and she wants to win custody of her. Her finances are a mess, and her could lose her house, but she will stop at nothing to make sure that this baby has a loving home, and that there is justice for her daughter. I don’t know if I could ever be as strong as Joanna, but I absolutely hope so.

I loved the clever way that this book played out; I didn’t expect the way that it did (I can’t say anything because I don’t want to give anything away!). But I did love the ending. That was another part of the book that made me cry!

So grab your tissues, grab a cozy blanket, and this book. Prepare for your heart to break, and then for your heart to be uplifted in this beautiful tale of heartbreak and strength.

My Review:
Speechless!!!!! This author really knows how to pull at every heart string in your body. I don’t know how she does it. I really don’t read these types of books for that reason. I hate getting all emotional and crying at every chapter but sometimes it is good to let it all out. You will definitely need a whole box of tissues next to you the entire time for this one. Now let’s talk characters. Wow, wow and more wow. I related to every single one of them. They all had their flaws but the best intentions. Those are the best characters. Every person has their good points and their bad points. Next up is plot. This couldn’t have been a better story. It had everything I wanted. It made me laugh, cry and even scream at every turn. Last but not least my favorite part of every book, the ending. Jaw dropping is the best word I would use for this one. I’m not going say anymore and ruin the joy that this book brings with it. Emma Robinson is the best and I can’t wait to read her next book.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Reading Between the Wines book review #87/130 for 2024:
Book Tour!!
Rating: 3 🍷🍷🍷
Book: All My Fault
Author: Emma Robinson
Available now!! Released on September 9, 2024!

Sipping thoughts: What a great story of relationships, love, growing up, and socio-economic disparities. This story was so heartbreaking. And when you first start reading it, you feel like it is just going to be a women’s fiction, but it turns a little bit into a domestic suspense. This story is told in dual storylines. The characters all start off as unlikable, but as the story unfolds, so does the likability of most characters. If you are looking for slow burning domestic suspense, this is the book for you.

Cheers and thank you to @Bookouture and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @AllMyFault.

I read my first Emma Robinson book last year and have now read all of her books, now including her latest #allmyfault
A knock on the door will change the course of Joanna’s life forever. When the police inform Joanna the her daughter Charlotte has been attacked and is in critical condition, she knows who is to blame. She has never trusted her daughter’s boyfriend Freddie, she blames him for driving mother and daughter apart and now this.
In typical Emma Robinson fashion this book slowly sinks deeper into the story giving us a bigger picture as it goes and making it harder to put down. I so completely enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the rest of the world to get to pick up on September 9, 2024.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy for review.

A knock at the door, a visit from the Police telling Joanna her beloved daughter has been attacked and is in a critical condition in hospital. Charlotte's boyfriend Freddie helping Police with their enquiries. Joanna is convinced of Freddies guilt, she's never particularly felt he's good enough for her daughter and the last time she saw Charlotte they'd argued about this. And now it may be too late and its all Joanna's fault.
This book is a slight change from Emma's latest reads in the fact she's written about an older child, whos making their own way in the world but the emotions are still the same and this book has some heartbreaking moments, but also at its heart it carries a promise of love and friendships forever.

Not long after loosing her husband to a brain tumour Joanna gets a knock at her door saying her daughter has been in an accident and she needs to get to the hospital. As she rushes to the hospital she is thinking about the last time they spoke when they both fell out and how she would do anything to put it all right again. When she gets to the hospital she finds her daughter is in a coma and seriously ill but the bigger shock is she’s also pregnant. As the police interview Charlottes boyfriend Joanna is convinced he is responsible as she has never trusted him and when his mother shows up things take a nasty turn. Will Charlotte and the baby pull through and what really happened on the night she was attacked?

This is my first book by author Emma Robinson and I'm looking forward to reading many more! I absolutely loved it! Talk about emotional, it brought me to tears to the point I had to put the book down.

Great writing style with lovable characters. A heartbreaking story at times that was a little dark but definitely a must read!

It’s been a while since I read a book by THE Emma Robinson and reading this new book her hers reminded me why I love her books so much!
Emma Robinson puts so much heart and soul into her stories that you are instantly captivated and find yourself bonding so much with the characters that you just don’t want to leave them behind.
This book felt a bit different to me with the storyline as there was suspense, suspicion and a few shocks along the way…. And as always with this authors books, plenty of tears.
This has been another fabulous book from Emma Robinson that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed

I was invested in this book from page 1. I needed to know who hurt Charlotte. Was it Freddie? Was it someone else? I hated that Charlotte and her mother weren’t speaking at the time of the accident. The regrets her mother had through the whole story. I love a good family drama and this had all the pieces. The found family, the childhood enemies, the childhood trauma and what it does to people as adults. Everything shapes the people we become.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of this book.

Joanna’s dealt with a load of harsh blows in a short amount of time. The loss of her husband and now her daughter.
I felt a lot of empathy for Joanna and admired her temerity and gumption.
I withheld any sympathy for Freddie until I knew his whole story and ultimately I think his character had the most development in the entire story.
His mother on the other hand had a very unnatural attachment to her son and got what she deserved.
There a lot of sorrow In the story but the ending couldn’t have been any better!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.

Glorious contemporary fiction by one of my favourite authors.
'All my Fault' is Emma Robinson 'Max'. It's got her characteristic great writing, relatable characters, strong female friendships, modern dilemmas and a love-led solution/happy ending. But this one has also got crimes and punishment galore, violence, prison visits, unexpected babies and unexpected alliances.
I felt for Joanne (and Sally), and I think its wonderful that 'normal' middle-aged women took centre stage here.
Loved it, looking forward to whatever Emma comes up with next.

"All My Fault" is a book about a mother who tries to control her daughters life, without really realising, to then realise that there was no need to do so. It is a heart wrenching emotional book that is so well written that is really portrays the emotions and it connected deeply with me. There wasn't one chapter in that book that I thought was boring or a "filler", it was action packed all the time!

What an extraordinary and engaging story!
I honestly read this book non-stop because I had to see/know where the author was taking me.
Twists and turns galore…
Heartbreaking moments…
Heartfelt moments…
So many secrets…
A totally heart wrenching and emotional read for me.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
