This killer case has Katie caught under a spell she can't break.
Young witch Katie Houseman can talk to animals. But as it turns out, that’s not the only magic she can do. When Katie's new job turns into an investigation into her boss’s murder, she’s stuck juggling suspects…
And the demons in her garden.
With the help of her police officer friend David, her boyfriend Tom, her faithful cat familiar Biscuit, and her magical aunt Zorah, Katie has to work to catch the real killer while defending herself against supernatural attacks.
With innocent lives on the line, Katie must embrace her witchy powers like never before to crack the case…
And defeat those threatening her and the ones she loves before it’s too late.
Katie’s powers as a witch are growing and now she can see what she thinks of as demons all over Park Slope. Tom had given her a promise ring and even tho she is worried about them, he is in it for the long haul and she and Biscuit, her tuxedo familiar, are worried as these ‘demons’ are not acting as those they read about. I too, find the interaction between Tom and Biscuit to be hilarious as Tom has no way of knowing what Biscuit is saying back to him, but he gets the gist from the tone, lol. Katie takes a job to help out as a grip for the day at Jillian Jannette’s shoot. She is very persnickety and drives the ppl there a bit crazy as she is a perfectionist. Katie meets Jillian’s assistant, Ainslie and her ferret, Sapphire. Katie notices the jewelry that looks a bit magical on Jillian and so when there is a death, she goes and asks her friend and fount of information, Penelope for help for background on how to solve the murder. There are a lot of suspects in this case and Katie has to narrow it all down. Plus, Katie is still having problems with the Dark Witches and she meets someone who can help her with that. I found this book equal fascinating and terrifying at the same time. Tom and David are wonderful and I love them, and I also love the fact that Katie is trying to reconnect with her friends, Rob and Juno too. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Katie Houseman is back , yes she can talk to animals but that’s not all she has , her powers are getting stronger and not before time either because there’s demons in the back yard ! With supernatural attacks coming at her left right and centre she has her cat familiar Biscuit , her boyfriend Tom and friend David to get to the bottom of her new boss’s murder along with her Aunt Zorah who’s magic and teachings steer her young witch niece on the right path out of darkness…embracing her growing powers and not before time! A gloriously cosy , immersive mystery that’s magical ( see what I did there?)…. And a real treat to read with familiar ( excuse pun) characters and awesome storytelling . Loved it Corrine Winters , already looking forward to the next instalment of this great series . I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words.
The story itself is a 5. But, the errors and inconsistencies are killing the story for me. The person was murdered, but was said to have vanished and disappeared in a few other places in the story. The dog, Reveillie from the prior book, was a long haired dachshund. Yet, in this book, was said to be a German shepherd. The last book was all about this dog! So disappointed. I want to finish this series, but it’s getting harder to overlook the errors. Especially when some are not just from book to book, but paragraph to paragraph! And there is so much repetition. It’s like the author is just trying to get more words in, but isn’t saying anything new that progresses the story.
Please, get beta readers and better editors. I am loving the storyline, but don’t know if I can stick with it.
A one day model photo shoot, unknown dark entities floating around, Jullian, the designer is found dead at her fashion show. Katie remembers seeing bracelets with strange runes on the designer. When she goes to get a magic reading, the bracelets painfully reject her magic. The assistant Ainsley is police suspect number one. There are many other suspects, however, the rune bracelets were given by Yvonne. She was more like a godmother to the victim. What did the runes mean? what are the entities, are they devils? Who murdered Jullian, why and most puzzling, how? another unpredictable page turner!
Katie and company return in a tricky case involving a model. There are also demon like creatures plaguing Katie and attacks from the dark witches. Katie gains a new ally in the fight and learns that she has stronger powers. Will they be enough to turn the tide against the darkness?
The 10th book in the series has a darker tone than previous installments and suffers from editing issues. Katie’s ability to communicate with animals is under utilized here and there is only one scene with her canine clients. Many of the scenes offered repetitive exposition and there were some continuity errors. The mystery itself was interesting with plenty of suspects. The inclusion of a new witch ally for Katie was a plus as well.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Katie and her friends do solve the murder but there is greater danger happening. There are several attacks on Katie and while she learns a new skill, it is draining. I'm curious about what will happen next.
This was an exciting book witches, wraiths and dark magic had me on the edge of my seat. Jillian is giving her first fashion show as a new owner when she collapses and falls off the stage she is dead. The suspects are many and the mystery fun. The Witchy powers were exciting to behold and I recommend it.
