Hannah Evans was content with her quiet life as a baker's apprentice, finding solace in the rhythmic hum of the bakery after her parents' untimely death. However, her peace is shattered by the persistent advances of a local newspaper magnate, whose relentless pursuit leaves her feeling trapped and desperate for a way out.
One day, curious whispers and giggles at the newsstand draw her attention to an unconventional mail-order brides. Intriguing.
Could this be her escape?
Weston Flanders was ready for a wife. His friends’ talk of marriage had spurred him into action, and when Hannah stepped off the carriage, he was captivated by her beauty.
However, the reality of marriage proved challenging. Weston struggled with what to say and how to act, and living together was harder than he had anticipated. Doubts crept in—had they made a mistake? Were they truly compatible?
Hannah too was having doubts. Her past, the very reason she fled New York, remained a secret from Weston.
Secrets, especially dangerous ones, have a way of surfacing.
When the man she escaped from comes looking for her, Hannah and Weston must confront their fears and uncertainties.
Can their newfound love survive the trials ahead, or will the shadows of the past tear them apart?
This love story could almost start “once upon a time…” and end with “they lived happily ever after…”. You will enjoy meeting the characters - well, almost all of them, and feel quite satisfied at the end.
I was very disappointed with all the errors in this book that should have been corrected. I did enjoy their saga of how their love grew over the months.
